The Future of Garreth Weasley and Poppy Sweeting
Tumblr media
Garreth and Poppy dated for a bit in Hogwarts and decided to go more serious with the relationship a few years after their graduation by getting married. The wedding was attended by a majority of their classmates, Garreth’s family, and Poppy’s grandmother.
Together they had seven sons who were all sorted into either Gryffindor or Hufflepuff:
Proteus (1904)
Deuce (1906)
Trenton (1907)
Quade and Quincy (1909)
Cecilio (1913)
Septimus (1916)
The seven boys learned about both potion making and how to care for magical creatures from their parents, with some of them even choosing to follow in their footsteps after graduation. They also took many visits and stays in the Sweeting Sanctuary, a place to care for endangered magical creatures that was watched over by Poppy and the centaurs.
Poppy, being an only child, did her best to treat her children equally and often took advice from her husband. This was because he had numerous siblings and cousins of his own, some of which were the godparents of their children or had names they used for their children’s middle names.
Their youngest son, Septimus, would eventually go on to fall in love with a girl a year younger than him named Cedrella Black. She was the granddaughter of a previous Hogwarts headmaster and a member of Slytherin house. She was disowned after marrying Septimus because his family was viewed as blood traitors, however Garreth and Poppy treated her especially as if she was their own daughter all along.
Septimus was very friendly with some of the children of his parent’s friends including the daughter of Ominis Gaunt (Gilda Elysian, a Ravenclaw) and the second son of Phineas and Marie Hearst (Thomas Hearst, a Slytherin). The twins were also in particular close friends with the son of Zsuzsi Schröder (Alexei Morosovich, a Slytherin) who was in their year.
Garreth and Poppy would have numerous grandchildren with one of their youngest son’s children being Arthur Weasley, who would go on to have seven kids of his own. Garreth and Poppy often traveled around visiting their children and their respective families after they moved out and created lives of their own. The couple both lived long lives as well and met multiple of their great grandchildren as well.

Overprotective! Hermione ratting out a bully at Hugo's muggle primary school. She gets thrown out of PTM meetings then. :D. A funny fic.
Hi anon! So I think I’ve included everything you’ve asked for, except for maybe it’s not quite as funny as you were hoping for. Bullying is never something I take lightly, so it’s hard to frame it in a funny light, but I hope the irony I’ve placed in this little drabble makes up for it.
Thanks for the ask!
***********************************
Birds & Bullies
“Mrs. Granger-Weasley, I’m sorry, but our parent support group is actually full. We appreciate your interest, but we won’t need you to attend the regular meetings. You’re more than welcome to help out at the events we’ll be hosting though,” Mrs. Thurston said blithely.
Hermione gave her a hard look as she started around at the measly five people sitting at the table. “I see. So, five people is all you need to run a functioning, successful parent teacher group? Well, that is perfectly fine, I have plenty of other things I need to do. I just wanted to give back to the community where my son is attending school, but I can see where I’m not wanted.”
She was only mildly satisfied when she saw the majority of the group gaping like fish out of water. “Though, if you would be kind to tell me what this is actually about, then I’ll gladly be on my way.”
“What? Of course that’s what this is actually about. Could you think we could have any particular motive?”
“Well, yes, actually, I do. Considering I called out Mrs. McMullen’s son last week on the playground when I caught him trying to pull down Hugo’s trousers and embarrass him in front of the rest of the children on the playground!”
“What?” Mrs. Thurston rounded on Mrs. McMullen.
“I don’t know what she’s-” Mrs. McMullen tried to intervene.
“Oh, don’t pull that rubbish on me. I walked right up to you when it happened and you brushed it off! And this is not the first time it’s happened. Your boy calls Hugo all sorts of names and makes him feel like an outcast! I, for one, will not tolerate such bullying to happen to my children. They’ve been brought up to stand their ground, but also be kind and respectful of one another.”
“Your son is not innocent in this!” Mrs. McMullen said quickly.
“Well, please, let me know what he’s done so I can reprimand him properly for it.” Hermione said, waiting for an answer.
Mrs. McMullen stood up then, challenging Hermione. “He set all those birds after my Trenton. I don’t know how he did it, but he did!”
Hermione laughed as the others looked at the woman like she was crazy. “That’s preposterous! Surely an eight year old cannot possess power over another living, breathing thing! No one can! Are you sure you aren’t confusing some odd occurrence like in that movie Matilda?”
“Erm, she has a point, Trudy,” Mrs. Thurston said then. The other moms continued to look at Mrs. McMullen as if she was crazy.
“Look, I’m not trying to start any trouble here, if you don’t need me at meetings, that’s perfectly fine, just please don’t hold anything against my son. I’m sorry for bothering you all,” Hermione said as she turned on her heel and walked out of the room.
As she exited the building, she couldn’t help but chuckle to herself. Of all the accidental magic Hugo could have chosen... She’d have to have a conversation with him about that. Like mother, like son..

Magical Abilities: In the canon game, Emmett is a Legilimens.
Boggart/Riddikulus: Emmett’s Boggart is an impostor pointing a gun at his head, barrel pressed to his temple. It’s not just of the fact that he’s being ambushed and threatened for his life, but also from the close uncomfortable contact, unfamiliar flesh against his own, that constricts his breath in his throat. In the Riddikulus form, the impostor would turn into a man made entirely out of colourful inflated balloons, with a balloon gun that fizzled with air leaking out from the end. Well, what’s not to laugh about a useless balloon dummy?
Mirror of Erised: Emmett sees himself as an older man in the mirror with a weapon in his hand, a smirk on his face. It was an image of payback on those who hurt him long ago, and for him that was enough.
Patronus: Emmett’s patronus in the game is a leopard.
Amortentia: If Emmett were to get a whiff of Amortentia, he’d smell freshly made sugar doughnuts, ground basil, burning metal, and petrichor. If anyone were to smell his scent, they’d smell a whiff of barbecue sauce, honeysuckle, burning wood, and crushed pine needles.

Hair Colour: Black
Skin Tone: Pale
Body Modifications: N/A
Scarring: a small red mark about the size of a pea on his collar bone from the time his family was ambushed by complete strangers armed with a gun. The hole had been stitched long ago, but the memory of the gunshot still remained
Inventory: (what do they carry on them?)
-a few extra quills and ink
-a bottle of pigeon feathers
-a box of frog spawn soap
-three glass marbles from his mother
Fashion: A more casual style is what Emmett prefers--he can’t exactly stand t-shirts, though, so he puts a jacket of some sort over it. With one layer he feels vulnerable. Add on a pair of jeans and sneakers, and that completes his look.

Dormmates: Rowan Khanna, Barnaby Lee, two other male Slytherins
Pets: Mewy (cat); Hoppy (toad)
Closest canon friends: list above
Closest MC friends: Rose Tanaka
Familial relations:
Mother: Carlotta Chung (nee Trenton)
A woman of British descent and from a family with reputable wizarding ancestry, she attended Hogwarts and was Sorted into Ravenclaw. She was a fine pupil in her day, and eventually landed a job as a Ministry worker, working in the Department of Mysteries.
Father: Wallace Chung
A man with a long family background delving deep into banking and business, he graduated with an honours degree in economics at Oxford University. How he met his wife Carlotta was a mystery--in fact, his entire relationship with Carlotta was kept under wraps. However, he remained very faithful to her, even when the family was being pursued by Snatchers for a rumour that surrounded them since the eldest son’s disappearance.
Brother: Rodney Chung
Eight years older than Emmett, Rodney doesn’t know his younger brother as much as he would want to. The only memory he had of Emmett was that he was almost fatally shot when he was only 5--by someone armed with a gun and his head hidden with a wide-brimmed hat. He ended up going absolute berserk and detached himself from his family the moment he stepped into school.
Background/History:
Emmett’s childhood was very black and white--loved to bits by his mother and father, but constantly living in his brother’s shadow with the only wish that he got to know his brother more and why he was acting so distant. When he was 5, the family was ambushed by a group of Muggles belonging to a Mafia group, the claim being that his father owed them a huge sum of money for ‘breaking a deal’. Enraged, Emmett’s father tried to drive them away, but the group did not leave quietly--they raised hell in the home, shooting multiple bullets and wrecking a lot of things. One of the bullets entered Emmett’s body, striking him in the collarbone and narrowly missing his heart. It was Rodney who drove them away in the end with a stash of dungbombs--and eventually the family had to move to a private estate in Cambridge, living in fear. Emmett was sent away to a hospital to recover from both his wound and the trauma.
(The Mafia group in question was actually Emmett’s father’s ‘friends’--the deal was that as long as he was friends with them, he would not find himself someone to marry. He had no idea that they intended to end his family line, and got married in secret anyway.)
Rodney disappeared two years before Emmett began his journey at Hogwarts. While the rest of the family worried for him, Emmett resented his brother’s decisions. Even if he wanted to bring Rodney back home, he knew he had a lot to owe the family.
Hogwarts Mystery unfolded.
Once Wallace’s case was cleared up, Emmett began to leave home more often, not just for his job at the Ministry (and he did love working in the same place as his mother, don’t get me wrong) but for hanging out more with his friends. He became less and less closed up, and eventually found a place to live on his own, though he always paid his parents and Rodney a visit just to hear Rodney’s full story and to try and mend the broken bond between them.
Emmett joined the Order of the Phoenix as a spy in early 1996.
In May 1998, Emmett joined the Battle of Hogwarts, but he did not survive. He was killed by a heavy pillar pinning him to the ground while running through the corridors. He was honoured alongside all the rest of the fallen, survived by his brother who already had a family of his own.
Personality:
Is it appropriate to say that Emmett has trust issues? Other than his parents, whom he cared for deeply, Emmett had a hard time opening up to new people. Rowan was the first to break through that shell, though, showing him that not all people are as disloyal as he had been led to believe. Sometimes he still retains some venom which he doesn’t hesitate to spit out in his retorts--some people had to help him monitor that. He speaks with no filter, preferring to be blunt and straightforward with his opinions and preferences. Despite his bully-like attitude, however, he’s very studious and works hard. His ambition laid in getting justice for his father.
Misc:
Emmett’s a popular boy with the girls at school--first pointed out by Penny, whom he once had a small crush on despite their polar opposites. However, he couldn’t stand being an object for girls to ogle at, and at one point he snapped at one of the girls for staring starry-eyed at him.
Very few people knew about Emmett’s scar. Only his dorm mates knew, and once he was comfortable enough with his friends they would know of it too.
More facts to come.

Adding on:
The Tortall books by Tamora Pierce (Song of the Lioness Quartet, Protector of the Small Quartet, and others, all set in the same universe with characters crossing over). This is medieval fantasy about strong women, two of whom become knights. Very formative to my 11-year-old self. Contains some non-explicit discussion of sex so may be best for older elementary/middle school rather than younger elementary.
Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage. Someone on Tumblr described this as "Harry Potter if the story revolved around the Weasleys" which is pretty accurate. Septimus is a seventh son (of a seventh son? Don't remember but probably) and thus is fated/chosen/magical.
Young Wizards by @dduane. A little more modern and grittier than the two above, probably best for older elementary/MS students. Also more spacey, a good blend of fantasy and sci-fi.
The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. No magic but still a cool group of scrappy kids fighting evil at a school. One of my favorite books/series in elementary school.
Kingdom Keepers series by Ridley Pearson. A series about magical happenings after dark in Disney Parks. I didn't read it but my sister did in elementary school and she really liked it.
Also I can't leave a post of HP alternatives without mentioning Lord of the Rings. I was an advanced reader, but I had read the entire series with my dad before 6th grade, and the Hobbit is actually relatively simple. Still, the reading level is higher than the other books on this list.
Came across your Harry Potter alternative for adults. Do you you have any recommendations for kids?
The Bartimaeus sequence would be ok for older kids. There isn't much with the same potential for fandom. A lot of YA series are shorter and less well developed because publishers just wanted to blast them onto the market and get some of that sweet JKR money. That's why you get so many crappy cash grabs that devolve into brain melting nonsense after 2-3 books like the Michael Vey series, Gone, Maze Runner, and Lorien Legacies.
Here are some short series that aren't much like Harry Potter but that I liked as a kid around the same time I liked Harry Potter:
Percy Jackson (obviously. If any YA series could take on Harry Potter in terms of scope and fandom it's probably this one. Kid with ADHD discovers he's actually a demi-god and has to go on adventures and battle monsters. The series racks up a hugely diverse cast over time.)
Airborn (alternate history with airships and lots of steampunk adventuring, made me more interested in engineering and zoology, and the series has a satisfying ending.) Airman (just a single book sadly, which I liked even after I'd outgrown the Artemis Fowl books and gotten annoyed by them. Young kids might prefer Artemis Fowl.)
LionBoy (All I remember is t's about a kid who has asthma and can talk to lions, but I liked it a lot in middle school.)
Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld (similar vibes to Airborn but it's set in an alternate history of WW1, the books also have some truly awesome illustrations)
The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima (high fantasy so it's no Harry Potter, but the main character is an urchin who becomes a wizard, so...) Her urban fantasy series The Warrior Heir is also good but pretty much revolves around human trafficking and an ancient blood feud.
Pendragon (eh... this one is borderline cash grab while still being fun. It's a good series overall but the conclusion is a little eh. Local high school boy discovers he can travel to alternate realities and is destined to fight a very evil villain who I always thought was cooler than Voldemort)
Inkheart (a personal fave I first read at 12 and still like to re-read at 30. Magic system is a little whack but the story does a great job of presenting truly evil villains through a lens of childhood.) Funke also has the new ongoing series, Mirrorworld, about a guy who travels through mirrors into a fairytale world, but that one's a little more mature.
The Knife of Never Letting Go (sci-fi, kind of like a cooler Avatar. Don't watch the movie. Very creatively written book with serious themes of imperialism, fascism, and misogyny—but in a way that kids can enjoy.)
Ranger's Apprentice (another kind of eh one in retrospect. Good for younger kids. Has some great characters but does devolve into a bit of a cash grab in later books. Harshest criticism is that the characters drink an unreasonable amount of coffee.)
I'll end on
City of Masks by Mary Hoffman (this one is a hidden gem. Urban fantasy but it's weirdly obsessed with Italian City-States. Long-ish series with a diverse cast and great recurring characters. It favors political intrigue over the magic system. Book 1 has themes of struggling with terminal illness and loss, but each book in the series introduces a new main character with a new personal struggle to overcome.)

I love how this is like it could add onto the Weasley family we all know and love from the books! Honestly Garreth amd Poppy make adorable yet intrepid and versatile pairing with lives lived to the fullest due for them and their equally wonderful kids 💛❤️
