James Bond Jr. 101 – 110

Surprise, Bondheads! You didn’t think we’d talk about James Bond and ignore the animated series based on the adventures of the titular hero’s little-known nephew, did you? Drew’s here to cover every episode of this 1991 gem, so let’s get started!

101 – “The Beginning”

Written by Francis Moss & Ted Pedersen, directed by Bill Hutten & Tony Love

James Bond Jr. is driving in his Aston Martin when he’s pursued by agents of SCUM and their leader, the Scumlord. James escapes by turning his car into a helicopter and flying to Warfield Academy, his new school. Bradford Milbanks does not approve of such flashy entrances and confines James to school grounds for a week. James meets a cavalcade of characters. There’s Burton “Buddy” Mitchell (a former FBI agent who was good friends with James’ uncle), James’ new roommate Horace “I.Q.” Boothroyd III (grandson of Q), Gordon “Gordo” Leiter (son of Felix Leiter), Tracy Milbanks (daughter of the headmaster and this series’ version of a Bond Girl), Phoebe Farragut (not the daughter of anyone important, but her open lust for James makes me think she’s this series’ answer to Miss Moneypenny) and Trevor Noseworthy IV (a rich snob who makes it his mission to get James in trouble for no reason). Scumlord and Jaws (yeah, THAT Jaws) watch James’ school antics from afar and Scumlord reveals that James’ Aston Martin has an EMP inside of it that can give SCUM the edge it needs to… I don’t know, wreck some stuff. Scumlord lures James out of school by sending word that his uncle has left a package for him in town. Tracy and I.Q. help James escape without Tracy’s dad getting mad at James for leaving school grounds. While James and I.Q. are in the post office, Jaws steals the car with Tracy hidden inside. The boys call Gordo and Phoebe for help, and I.Q. reveals he has a gadget that can both track and remotely control MI6 cars. James is aware that SCUM is behind this, by the way, but we get no backstory on how a teenager got mixed up with an evil crime syndicate. Jaws loads the Aston Martin onto a plane and James manages to sneak aboard thanks to some more of I.Q.’s gadgets. After a brief fight Jaws locks James in the car’s trunk with Tracy but he escapes thanks to a laser in the watch I.Q. gave him. James distracts Jaws with the remotely controlled Aston Martin while he and Tracy jump out of the plane using the only parachute. Jaws jumps out without a ‘chute but lands on a barn, unharmed. Scumlord and his pet dog presumably die in the plane crash. Noseworthy tries to rat James out to the headmaster, but James has managed to get back to school in time and Noseworthy gets in trouble for wasting Milbanks’ time. Coach Buddy congratulates James on not dying and lets him know that there was never an EMP in the Aston Martin to begin with. James’ uncle sends over a shiny new car as a present.

102 – “Earthcracker”

Written by Mel Gilden, directed by Bill Hutten & Tony Love

Oddjob (yeah, THAT Oddjob) attacks the students of Warfield Academy in a miniature tank, causing chaos and kidnapping a young woman named Lotta Dinero. James grabs ahold of the truck Oddjob drives the tank into and finds out it’s being shipped to Puerto, Peru. Noseworthy tries to tell Milbanks about the tank thing but the headmaster is oblivious to the threats his students encounter on a daily basis. Back at Warfield James raps with Coach Buddy and we find out that Lotta’s dad has been searching for El Dorado. I.Q. gives James a bevy of gadgets for his trip to Peru, and James realizes that if Oddjob is involved in this it must mean that Goldfinger (yeah, THAT Goldfinger) is behind it. Phoebe lures Milbanks out of his office so James, Tracy and I.Q. can sneak off to Peru. James goes to investigate nearby traces of gold while Tracy and I.Q. head into Puerto. Tracy is indignant to see some of Goldfinger’s henchman harassing local merchants. James manages to shoot one of I.Q.’s homing beacons onto Oddjob’s helicopter when he flies nearby. A sudden earthquake destroys much of Puerto and leaves James stuck in a cave that’s partially collapsed. He gets out thanks to a grenade I.Q. gave him, and Tracy and I.Q. tail some henchmen. Noseworthy tries to rat James out to Milbanks but Milbanks assumes he’s concussed. James sees Goldfinger trying to get the location of El Dorado out of Lotta’s dad, but Dinero refuses. Goldfinger threatens to use his Earthcracker mining laser (which caused the earlier earthquake) on Lotta and Dinero caves. Oddjob spots James lurking nearby, knocks him out and brings him to Goldfinger. James, Lotta and Dinero are stuck in a gold statue which Goldfinger uses the Earthcracker to melt. Tracy and I.Q. arrive and cause a rockslide, creating enough of a distraction for James to escape with Lotta and Dinero. James uses the Earthcracker to destroy El Dorado, presumably killing Goldfinger and Oddjob in the process. In exchange for destroying an ancient city of priceless archeological value that Dinero has spent his whole life looking for, James gives him a single gold statuette he smuggled out. Back to school!

103 – “The Chameleon”

Written by Jeffrey Scott, directed by Bill Hutten & Tony Love

A criminal who can change his face infiltrates an American military base and steals a general’s uniform. At Warfield, the kids prepare for a field trip to Washington DC. Tracy’s passport is expired, so she has to stay behind. Think that’s going to be important to the plot? Think again. The Chameleon’s subdermal tech that allows him to change his face is weak to water and was damaged by the rain he was in while stealing the uniform. He goes to his hunchbacked doctor to get it fixed and takes out some MP who are tailing him. At the airport, the kids run into Lt. Shelly Casing and Noseworthy makes a sexist crack about women being allowed in the military. Lt. Casing gives the kids a ride into Washington in her jeep and explains she’s investigating the theft of the uniform. Buddy hangs back to read the Gettysburg Address on the Lincoln Memorial while Lt. Casing takes the kids to see the Washington Monument. There, an old lady stops rushes into the elevator, preventing anyone but James and Lt. Casing from getting a lift. At the top of the monument, the old lady pushes James and Lt. Casing out of a window and reveals herself to be the Chameleon. He runs off and the rest of the kids arrive upstairs in time to save Lt. Casing from falling to her doom. Gordo dangles Noseworthy out the window so he can grab James, then drops both of them. Turns out James was wearing a parachute the whole time. He lands them on the van the Chameleon is driving away in, then Noseworthy gets stuck in a tree. The gang tracks James thanks to a homing beacon I.Q. put on him, picking up Noseworthy along the way. Elsewhere, General Armstrong explains the military’s plans to implement Robotic Armored Tactical Soldiers (RATS) and says there will be a demonstration of the mech this afternoon. James follow the Chameleon to his hotel and sees him change into the stolen general’s uniform while announcing his plans to steal the RATS and sell it to SCUM. James dresses as a bellboy and puts on a racist Indian accent to deliver food to the Chameleon’s room. The Chameleon makes a break for it, but the gang has arrived in the lobby. The Chameleon takes on Noseworthy’s appearance and attacks some cops, causing them to arrest the real Noseworthy while the Chameleon makes a break for it. James and Lt. Casing go to warn Armstrong about the Chameleon. The Chameleon manages to take out Armstrong and take control of the RATS. James abandons Lt. Casing long enough to drive a tank into the room and tricks the Chameleon into blowing up the sprinkler system, getting himself wet and shorting out his subdermal tech (for the record, James had no way of knowing any of this would work, nobody every explained to him how the Chameleon could change his face). Noseworthy is released from jail and Lt. Casing gives the kids a VIP tour of Washington.

104 – “Shifting Sands”

Written by Doug Molitor, directed by Bill Hutten & Tony Love

Professor Giza takes the kids on a field trip to Egypt where they crack open a pharaoh’s tomb for the hell of it. I.Q. and the professor are dragged inside by tomb robbers. The kids rush in and that robbers try to kill them with dynamite. James gets rid of the dynamite and finds a black scarab pin on one of the robbers. James tells Tracy he recognizes the black scarab as the calling card of Pharaoh Fearo. Cleo Daway arrives and announces that she hates foreigners coming to Egypt to plunder its tombs and steal its riches (fair point), but Giza assures her the kids are cool. James finds a map of oil pipelines hidden in the black scarab pin and back in the tomb he gets Cleo wet by showing off how much he knows about Egypt’s history. The kids see that the pharaoh’s body is missing and Noseworthy causes an earthquake while messing around with one of I.Q.’s gadgets. James and Cleo are fine, but the professor and all the other kids are stuck behind a collapsed ceiling and they’re running out of air. Cleo reads some hieroglyphics and finds a trapdoor leading to the treasure chamber. Inside the chamber James and Cleo are faced with the racist caricature that is Pharaoh Fearo, who takes them onboard the Subterranean, an underground warship. James uses a watch from I.Q. to cut himself and Cleo free while Fearo is monologuing. Back in the tomb, the kids hear a mummy shuffling around. James figures out that the Subterranean is headed for an oilfield. Fearo captures Cleo and explains that once he’s drained all the world’s oilfields SCUM will control the world economy, or something like that. Fearo begins draining an oilfield, planning on drowning James and Cleo in oil in the process. James escapes thanks to an I.Q. gadget and floods the Subterranean with oil. James and Cleo escape and plan to head back to the tomb to rescue the kids, but they run into some more racist caricatures and a sheik plans to kill them. Cleo lets the sheik know James is cool and they all attack the Subterranean. James gets back onboard and incapacitates Fearo before driving the Subterranean straight into the tomb to save the kids. He unwraps the mummy and reveals it to be Fearo’s cousin, Viper, who was charged with scaring people away from the tomb. How did James know about Viper despite him never being mentioned before now? Who cares!

105 – “Plunder Down Under”

Written by Perry Martin, directed by Bill Hutten & Tony Love

A navy ship is seized by a giant robotic arm and dragged under the water. The kids from Warfield are on a school trip to Greece and are visiting the Parthenon, but I.Q. stayed at the hotel to work on gadgets because he’s the biggest dweeb. Gordo’s busy playing a video game and everyone cares a lot about it. Coach Buddy informs the kids about the missing ship, because it turns out the captain who got dragged into the water alongside his ship was Tracy’s uncle William. The Greece authorities can’t find any clues and everyone thinks a sea monster is behind the missing ships. James takes Tracy, I.Q. and Gordo on a scuba trip to get Tracy’s mind off her probably-dead uncle. The kids catch sight of Jaws and figure SCUM is behind the missing ships. Jaws scubas down to the bottom of the sea and the kids follow him. They see Jaws operating the giant robotic arm which drags another ship to the bottom. The ships are being brought to a giant domed fortress on the bottom of the ocean. A great white shark attacks the kids, but turns out it’s a sub piloted by Jaws. Phoebe and Coach Buddy set off in search of the missing kids. Jaws takes the kids inside the domed underwater city, where Tracy triggers the sprinkler system long enough for them to get away from Jaws. Tracy finds her captive uncle, but Jaws catches up to the kids and brings them before his new boss, Walker D. Plank. Plank’s parrot seals the kids in a glass tube while Plank explains his plan to use the stolen ships as an unstoppable pirate fleet. I.Q. combines a homing beacon with Gordo’s video game, which somehow allows Gordo to control Plank’s fleet. One of the ship crashes through the dome, and Plank calls for his crew to flee while he leaves the kids to drown. The kids escape thanks to a laser ring from I.Q. and rescue Uncle William. Plank and his cronies escape in a sub but Jaws stays behind to fight James. James uses his electromagnetic watch to get Jaws’ metal teeth stuck a chain and leaves the henchman to drown. The kids escape with Uncle William in the shark sub and make it back to Warfield Academy.

106 – “A Chilling Affair”

Written by Mark Jones, directed by Bill Hutten & Tony Love

Some ninjas break into a cryogenics facility and steal a cryo tube under the direction of Dr. No (yeah, THAT Dr. No). The Warfield kids are having fun at the mall while I.Q. shows off his latest gadget which controls electronics. At his lair, Dr. No prepares to launch phase two of his scheme. His ninjas attack a Dr. Ivan Frost, a cryogenics expert, and his daughter, Julia, in his lab. Julia’s cries for help alert James, who jumps into action. One of the ninjas dropped a card for a sushi bar so James, I.Q., Phoebe and Julia go to investigate. James recognizes the chef as one of the kidnappers and threatens to force-feed the man poisonous blowfish unless he tells them what’s going on. The man tells them about Dr. No’s involvement and the kids head to Dr. No’s lair. We find out that Dr. No needs Dr. Frost to unfreeze the man in the tube, who was a master criminal who planned to escape justice by being frozen for a hundred years. Dr. No wants to unfreeze the man long enough to find out where he hid his stolen money, kill him and take the money for himself. Dr. No sends his ninjas to take out the kids, resulting in James and Julia being captured while Phoebe and I.Q. follow behind. Dr. No prepares to freeze James and Julia in liquid nitrogen, but thanks to an I.Q. gadget they escape. I.Q. and Phoebe arrive and assume James and Julia are dead, only to run into them in the ventilation system. They make it to the lab and reunite with Frost. Frost says he can’t bring back the frozen man alive, so James has Phoebe and Julia use his makeup to disguise I.Q. as the frozen man. James, Phoebe and Julia are captured, but thanks to yet another hidden parachute James takes out the ninjas and steals a helicopter. Dr. No figures out I.Q. isn’t the frozen man and is about to kill him, but James jumps onto the van and controls it using I.Q.’s gadget from earlier. He gets back into the helicopter and picks up the van with its struts, dropping it into a pond. Frost and I.Q. are fine, but Dr. No got away. James, I.Q. and Phoebe make it back to Warfield in time to take a science exam.

107 – “Nothing to Play With”

Written by Jeffrey Scott, directed by Bill Hutten & Tony Love

A toymaker named Chao Ling is chased through a factory in Hong Kong by a doll that cries acid tears. A massive man named Babyface tells him to do what he’s told or he’ll be killed. The Warfield kids attend a festival and James wins a stuffed bear for Tracy, finding a note written in Chinese inside of it. Luckily James is fluent in Chinese, and figures out that the note is a cry for help sent from Chao Ling. Back in Hong Kong, Babyface and Walker D. Plank explain that once the deadly toys they’re forcing Ling to make are shipped worldwide, they’ll be able to commit crimes without anyone knowing they were involved. The Warfield kids head to Hong Kong to investigate the note and find Ling’s daughter, Mae, home alone. Tracy is stuck babysitting Mae Ling while the other kids head to the toy factory. James recognizes guards outside as SCUM operatives. James gets into the factory by posing as a toy developer with a hot new idea. Plank recognizes James and James, I.Q. and Ling are surrounded by evil toys. They’re strapped to a toy train track with a toy train loaded with nitroglycerin headed toward them. I.Q. is able to stop the train and give James enough time to free them before the train blows. The three of them go after Plank and Babyface in a forklift while Mae Ling ties up Tracy and goes to rescue her father. The first shipment of toys is delivered and they’re programed to assemble together into a giant robot of doom. Mae Ling catches up with her dad just in time to get scoped up by the robot. James manages to short out the robot and save Mae. The robot collapses on the van with Plank and Babyface inside, but they escape. Noseworthy’s been trying to snoop on James this whole time and tries to call Milbanks to let him know James left school grounds (and the country) without permission, but Chao and Mae help fool Noseworthy as James and his crew are already back at Warfield.

108 – “Location: Danger”

Written by Misty Taggart, directed by Bill Hutten & Tony Love

I.Q. and Tracy are tied up by some racist caricatures of African villagers and James has to swing in to save them from the savage natives. James’ girlfriend, a pilot, helps them escape in her helicopter. Turns out this was all an extremely racist dream James was having while the Warfield kids were enjoying a movie featuring everyone’s favorite character, Spyman. James takes offense at the way spies are portrayed in movies, offending Warfield’s newest student, Anna Genue. Turns out Anne’s dad is Neville Genue, who portrays Spyman. Bond tries to make up for offending Anna’s dad by bringing a shit load of gifts to her birthday party. I.Q. is showing some new gadgets to James when they overhear a news story about the new galaxy defense system being stolen, but James doesn’t care about that. They’ve got a party to go to! SCUM is behind the theft, of course, and it turns out the Scumlord is still alive. Felony O’Toole explains to the Scumlord that no one at SCUM can program the defense system, so they’re going to kidnap a scientist named Professor Braintrust to do it for them. Braintrust is a big fan of Spyman, so he’s planning on meeting up with Genue in California. Anna is upset that her own father blew off her birthday party, so the Warfield kids plan on taking the party to him in Hollywood. They surprise Genue in Hollywood, but he doesn’t even recognize his daughter. I.Q. recognizes Braintrust nearby and James realizes that Genue is an imposter working for O’Toole. O’Toole has the fake Genue kidnap Braintrust and Anna gets dragged along for the ride. James figures out that SCUM needs Braintrust to program the defense system, and I.Q. has a gadget to track them down. The kids scrap with an animatronic movie monster while Braintrust, who’s an idiot who thinks he’s in a movie, programs the defense system. O’Toole escapes with Braintrust and Anna while I.Q. figures out how to escape the Godzilla knockoff. O’Toole plans to blow up Anna and her father, but James and the Warfield kids arrive in a stolen helicopter in time to save them. James jumps down to save the Genues while I.Q. rescues Braintrust from O’Toole. Genue commits to improving his relationship with Anna while the rest of the kids head back to school.

109 – “The Eiffel Missile”

Written by Doug Molitor, directed by Bill Hutten & Tony Love

James recognizes a SCUM agent named Skullcap at an airport. Skullcap steals a plane, but James manages to hitch a ride and incapacitates Skullcap, stealing the envelope Skullcap was carrying and then flying out of the plane in its ejector seat, landing back at Warfield just in time for soccer practice. Milbanks reams James for showing off and informs him the Paris fieldtrip has been cancelled because terrorists have smuggled a nuclear warhead into Paris. James meets up with the squad and they all agree SCUM is behind the warhead in Paris. Coach Buddy lets them know how they can sneak out of Warfield without Milbanks knowing. On the hovercraft to Paris, James meets a young artist named Marci Beaucoup. Marci agrees to be the kids’ guide to Paris, but then goes outside and reveals herself to be a spy. Skullcap arrives and tries to blow up the hovercraft. The kids manage to give him the slip and make it to Paris. Tracy doesn’t trust Marci and thinks James is spending too much time with her and not enough time looking for the nuclear warhead. James goes on a date with Marci, and it turns out Skullcap and his boss, Dr. Derange, are both on the riverboat where the kids are having dinner. James reveals that he knows Marci’s a fraud, but then Derange and Skullcap attack. James and Marci fend them off and Marci reveals she’s with the French police and she’s going to help them find the nuke. James figures out the nuke’s going to get fired from the Eiffel Tower, but Skullcap catches him and Marci and ties them both to the nuke. I.Q. tries to track them, but Gordo sucks at French and gets the group arrested. James escapes on his own, frees Marci and reprograms the missile so it goes off in space instead of hitting Moscow like Derange wanted. James smooths things over with the French cops and gets the Warfield kids out of the pokey.

110 – “A Worm in the Apple”

Written by Jeffrey Scott, directed by Bill Hutten & Tony Love

A man calls for help on a payphone, saying someone named the Worm is up to no good as one of the Worm’s henchmen jackhammers a hole around him and causes him to fall to his doom. At Warfield, James is goofing off during English class. Afterward, Phoebe invites James to New York to see the commencement of a mile-high skyscraper. Noseworthy tags along and I.Q. and Tracy watch the events through James’ video sunglasses. James is greeted by Peggy Rockwell, daughter of the architect behind the skyscraper. She gives them a tour of NYC, but their tour is interrupted by an exploding manhole. Peggy’s heard rumors that the Worm is planning on sabotaging her dad’s building, but those are just rumors. James dives down the manhole for no good reason and gets his passport stolen by one of the Worm’s henchmen. The Worm decides to take out James before he can get in the way of his schemes. The Worm plans to blow up the foundations of a nightclub Peggy’s taken the Warfield kids to, and the whole club sinks into the ground. James, Peggy, Phoebe and Noseworthy begin to run out of air, but they eventually make it to the roof and escape. The Worm has his driver try to run the kids down, so James seizes a pizza delivery truck and chases after the Worm’s limo. The Worm gets away and James chases after him through the sewers. James discovers plan to sink the mile-high skyscraper. James discovers the Worm has sensitive eyes that can’t handle any light. He destroys the Worm’s sunglasses, so the Worm steals James’ video sunglasses to replace them. James manages to stop the Worm from sinking the video by having I.Q. blind the Worm through his video sunglasses. Just like that the kids head back to Warfield.

Going on in Peru, crossing Ecuador on the way to Columbia

DE: Nachdem seit dem letzten Eintrag doch schon einige Zeit vergangen ist, gibt es heute etwas mehr Neuigkeiten von meiner Südamerika Tour zu berichten. Ich bin ganz erschrocken als ich feststellen musste der letzte Eintrag ist von laguna69. Seitdem ist viel passiert.

Von Huaraz geht es zunächst and Meer in Peru nach Huanchaco. Echt schön nach soviel Höhenluft wieder einmal auf Seehöhe zu sein. Huanchaco hat einige Ausgrabungen aus der Vergangenheit zu bieten. Die Stadt der ChanChan, sowie der Temple de La Luna des Volkes der Moches sind beeindruckende Zeugen der frühzeitigen Besiedlung Peru’s.

Am nächsten Tag geht es weiter nach Punta Sal. Wir stoppen am Sipan Museum, welches absolut beeindruckende Kunstschätze aus präkolumbianischer Zeit beherbergt, viele Porzellan und Goldschätze, welche in einigen Gräbern gefunden wurden, incl. diverser Skelette. Sehr tolles Museum-leider sind wieder einmal keine Fotos erlaubt.

In Punta Sal ist Camping direkt am Meer - aufwachen am Strand und zwei Tage Entspannung angesagt - herrlich.

Nach fast vier Wochen in Peru geht es weiter nach Ecuador.

Peru war herrlich. Ein Land, welches so abwechslungsreich ist. Reich an Kultur (welche leider durch die Spanier und auch die Kirche versucht wurde zu vernichten), hervorragendes Essen, sehr freundliche Menschen und nicht zuletzt eine umwerfende spektakuläre Natur mit Wüsten, Bergen Regenwald, Meer, und. Strand Peru hat mir schon sehr gut gefallen.

Auf dem Weg nach Ecuador wird es immer grüner. Kaum über der Grenze fangen riesige Bananenplantagen an. Ecuador ist der größte Exporteur von Bananen. Es ist heiß. Wir gehen aber relativ schnell Richtung Landesinnere in die Berge nach Cuenca. Ecuador ist sehr grün und alles macht einem etwas gepflegteren Eindruck als in Bolivien oder Peru. Cuenca ist eine koloniale Stadt. Wir besuchen die Panama Hut Fabrik, was ein recht lustiges Erlebnis ist, da man die Verschiedenen Hüte aufsetzen kann, und die dabei entstehenden Styles teilweise zum kaputtlachen sind.

Weiter geht es nach Chugchilan weiterhin in den Bergen Ecuadors - das Wetter ist nicht so toll, daher bleibt die spektakuläre Vulkanlandschaft teilweise nur zu erahnen. Es geht zu einem Vulkansee im Krater des Quilota. Oben angekommen wandern wir um den Krater und hinab ins Tal.

Weiter geht es nach Banos, wo wir drei Tage bei meist strömenden Regens campen. Nicht der große Spaß-aber dafür die Aktivitäten-ZIP lining im Regen über 6 spektakuläre Strecken und Rafting am nächsten Tag.

Weiter geht es zum Amazonas Regenwald - Wir wohnen in einer sehr schönen Lodge - mit rundum glücklich Paket - hervorragendem Essen und verschiedene Wanderungen im Regenwald. Tiere bekommen wir außer Spinnen, Ameisen und Schmetterlingen nicht zu sehen. Dann noch Besuch eines Indio Dorfes und des Amazoonica Projekts welches sich zur Aufgabe gemacht hat Tiere des Regenwaldes, die keine Überlebenschance in freier Natur haben eine neue Heimat zu geben. Am Ende stellen wir noch eine Schokolade selbst her - lecker.

Tags darauf geht es nach Quito. Der Unterschied zur Natur könnte nicht größer sein, wobei Quito noch die bisher am besten organisierte Großstadt auf meiner bisherigen Strecke zu sein scheint. Viel zu bieten am Sehenswertem hat Quito allerdings nicht - zumindest habe ich es so empfunden.

Nun geht es weiter nach Kolumbien mit einem kurzen Zwischenstopp am Äquator Denkmal (noch in Ecuador).

EN: After the last entry some time has passed, there is now some more news from my South America tour to report. I am quite frightened when I had to notice the last entry is by laguna69. Since then, much has happened.

From Huaraz it first goes to the sea in Peru to Huanchaco. Really nice after so much altitude once again at sea level. Huanchaco has to offer some excavations from the past. The city of ChanChan, as well as the Temple de La Luna of the people of the Moches are impressive witnesses to the early settlement of Peru.

The next day we continue to Punta Sal. We stop at the Sipan Museum, which contains absolutely impressive art treasures from precolumbian times, many porcelain and gold treasures found in some graves, including various skeletons. Very great museum-unfortunately again no photos are allowed.

In Punta Sal is camping right on the sea - wake up on the beach and two days of relaxation announced - magnificent.

After nearly four weeks in Peru, we continue to Ecuador.

Peru was gorgeous. A country so diverse. Rich in culture (which unfortunately was tried by the Spaniards and also the church to destroy), excellent food, very friendly people and not least a stunning spectacular nature with deserts, mountains rainforest, sea, and. Beach Peru I already liked very much.

On the way to Ecuador it becomes evergreen. Barely across the border are huge banana plantations. Ecuador is the largest exporter of bananas. It is hot. We go relatively quickly towards the Countryside in the mountains to Cuenca. Ecuador is very green and everything makes a more cultivated impression than in Bolivia or Peru. Cuenca is a colonial city. We visit the Panama Hat factory, which is a really fun experience, as you can put on the different hats, and the resulting styles are partially very funny.

We continue to Chugchilan in the mountains of Ecuador - the weather is not so great, so the spectacular volcanic landscape can only partly be seen. It goes to a volcanic lake in the crater of the Quilota. At the top we walk around the crater and down into the valley.

We continue to Banos, where we spend three days camping with mostly rain. Not the big fun but the activities-ZIP lining in the rain over 6 spectacular routes and rafting the next day.

Continue to Amazon Rainforest - We live in a very nice lodge - with all-round happy package - excellent food and various hikes in the rainforest. Animals are not seen except spiders, ants and butterflies. Then visit an Indio village and the Amazoonica project which has made the task of animals of the rainforest, which have no chance of survival in the wild to give a new home. In the end we make another chocolate - delicious.

The next day, you will go to Quito. The difference to nature could not be greater, Quito still the most organized city so far seems to be on my previous route. Quito, however, does not have much to offer in the sights - at least I have felt so.

Now we continue to Colombia with a short stopover at the Equator Monument (still in Ecuador).

While this town isn’t quite the hustle and bustle as the City of Angels, Riverside’s quiet, charming and kid-friendly offerings make it the ideal day destination. Here’s a day tripper’s tour guide of Riverside!

A road trip to Riverside may take you about two hours—possibly longer depending on the grueling LA traffic. If you’re planning a Riverside day, schedule to leave in the morning to ensure that you’ll have an entire day to explore all the venues and attractions of this city.

While Riverside boasts a population of around 300,000 residents, for Los Angeles natives, this city will seem much more scaled down—and, yes, that’s a good thing! So what activities and attractions should you check out on your day trip? Depending on how long you plan to stay, there is a long list of sightseeing opportunities that can keep you busy into the evening hours.

Museums

Riverside is home to many unique museums, but you might not have the time to check out each one. If you’re in a time crunch, try to select two or three that make the top of your ‘must see’ list. Be sure to contact each location first to ensure that they are open—you don’t want to recreate the scene from “Vacation” when Wally World was closed!

California Citrus State Historic Park

Orange you glad you chose Riverside? This unique park features about 400 acres filled with citrus trees. Check out the Visitor Center, which was built “as a replica of a packinghouse.” The Visitor Center includes numerous exhibits and a gift shop. Of course, you absolutely need to stroll along the park’s pathways and enjoy the amazing view of the entire park. Even though this site is popular with crowds, parking shouldn’t be an issue.

Heritage House Museum

The Heritage House was built in 1891 and is a Victorian-Style home. Take a tour of this stunning home and visualize what life was like during the turn of the 20th century. While the museum is free, donations are encouraged. The museum also recommends making tour reservations at least three weeks ahead of your scheduled visit. There is no charge for parking, which is provided behind the house. On a crowded day, however, you might need to park on the street.

March Field Air Museum

If you have a plane enthusiast in your family, the March Field Air Museum is a must-see destination. This museum displays 70 aircraft plus more than 30,000 unique relics from the past, including letters, personal gear and uniforms. There also are exhibits on space exploration, a recreated Vietnam Firebase, and Strategic Reconnaissance. Be sure to take a tram tour—the cost is only $3. However, general admission is $10 per adult (ages 12 and older), $5 for children (ages 5-11), children 4 years and younger are FREE, and so are those on Active Duty, Active Guard or Active Reserves (bring your card, though). And, yes, parking is free, although the museum’s website notes that there might be a charge to park at major events. The museum also is closed on Mondays and certain holidays.

Mission Inn Museum

If you plan to stay at the historic Mission Inn, then you need to visit the Mission Inn Museum. The museum details the Inn’s history, which began as a boarding house constructed from adobe brick. What makes this hotel so unique, though, is the incredible collection of art and treasures from around the world. Not staying at the hotel? Begin your journey with a visit to the museum and then take a tour of this historic Riverside gem. Call to inquire about tour times. You will need to pay to park–either at the meter or at the hotel garage.

Riverside Art Museum

Most major cities boast their own art museum, and Riverside isn’t an exception. If you’re an art enthusiast, you need to pay a visit. Current exhibits at the museum include “Anita Silvestri: Layered Views 2004-2018,” “Donna Morin:part:counterPART,” “4 Threads: New Work by Jamie Chavez, Gerardo Monterrubio, Jaime Muñoz, and Jaime “GERMS” Zacarias,” “Uncovering Ancient Mexico: The Mystery of Tlatilco,” and more. The Riverside Art Museum also will open the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art, Culture and Industry in 2020. According to the museum’s website, visitors can park at the lot or utilize metered street parking. Free parking is available on weekends or during the week after 5 p.m. (holidays also are free to park!).

Southern California Medical Museum

Learn everything you wanted to know about medicine at the Southern California Medical Museum. You can see replicas of doctor offices from the early 20th century, medicine bottles, crazy medical devices, surgical instruments, medical artwork, a medical library and more! Tours are available; the cost is $3 for children and students (older than 6) and $5 for adults (18 and older). Tickets are free for armed forces and their family (as well as WUHS employees and their families, per the site). Call before you visit, though, as reservations are required.

The Stahl Center Museum of Culture

This unique museum seeks “to share the vision of the Stahls and other medical missionaries.” Ana and Fernando Stahl were missionaries who shared their knowledge of medicine with “the peoples of the Amazon and the Altiplano in Peru and Bolivia.” Hours are limited; the museum is open only from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. On Wednesdays, the hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You should be able to find parking on campus but be sure to bring change for a meter.

World Museum of Natural History

Located at LaSierra University, the World Museum of Natural History includes all aspects of the natural world. Exhibits feature sculptures and taxidermized displays of reptiles, bird, amphibians, mammals as well as exhibits of mineral spheres, meteorites, gems, petrified wood, Native American artifacts and much more. There’s something for everyone, and the museum doesn’t charge for admission. However, hours on Saturday are limited to 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Parking should be available on campus, but always take meter money.

Family Parks

Fairmount Park

This park is one of the premier parks in the city. You can take a ride in the pedal boats on the lake, play a round of golf (9 holes) or just enjoy a leisurely picnic at the park! Of course, kids also can enjoy the park’s playground or go fishing! This is the ideal place to gather after visiting a few museums so kids can run around and get out all that bottled up energy. This is a huge park, so you shouldn’t have problems finding parking, but, again, never leave home without meter money! You should always play it safe.

Hunt Park & Bobby Bonds Park

These parks both feature skate parks that are suitable for all ages and skill levels. Grab your board and catch some air! Or try your skills on the stairs or street-like obstacles! Just don’t forget your knee pads or your helmet! These parks are fun for all ages but understand that teens and more advanced skaters hang out here too. Younger children and beginner skaters should be closely supervised by a parent or guardian. If you get too sweaty after all those skate maneuvers, cool off in the pool–Bobby Bonds also features a public pool.

Castle Park

Looking for a little more ‘amusement?’ Visit Castle Park, Riverside’s local amusement park. Featuring lots of rides and a water playground, Castle Park will keep kids busy all day. This park also features shows, carnival-type games, and mini-golf courses. Older kids will love the massive arcade. Tickets vary by price and package, but the most expensive option is under $20 per person. Buy meals online before your visit to save money! The price to park is $10 for each vehicle.

Mount Rubidoux

According to Green Adventures, Mount Rubidoux is “the most popular hike in Riverside.” Featuring a 4-mile trail, this park is for avid hikers and is billed as “moderate” in difficulty. Want to feel the burn of the workout? There is a trail that offers a more difficult ascent. Or you can just stick to the paved paths! Don’t forget your furry friends, as this park is open to pooches! Green Adventures notes that free parking is conveniently located at Carlson Dog Park or Bonaminio Park.

Where to Eat?

For many visitors, the quest to find great local food is part of the fun. There are lots of smaller restaurants in Riverside. Want to embrace your joie de vivre? Dine at Le Chat Noir for French cuisine and wine. TripAdvisor users also highly rated Simple Simon’s and Market Broiler for local flavors. On a budget? TripAdvisor lists Greek Street Grill, The Tamale Factory or Mission Galleria as top reviewed options.

To Stay or Go?

If you’re driving from L.A., you may consider staying the night to take in all the options of Riverside. The city has numerous hotels, motels, and other lodgings, but you’ll need to set a budget for an overnight stay.
