Casino City Press Business Profile, Casino Network
Mike Thorne never dreamed of a career in the casino and gaming industries, but he's here now, nearly 27 years into the casino network.
"It's hard to believe. It certainly is," Son said with a smile when asked about his nearly three decades as a leading distributor of refurbished slot machines, parts and glass. "It's been a tough journey but we're still strong."
The idea of starting a company fell into his lap back in early 1996. At the time, Son was living in Minneapolis and owned a landscaping company. His neighbors had to buy many used slot machines in Reno, Nevada and bring them back to the Midwest. Since Son had three relatively new trucks that could pull the trailer, they asked him if he could do it.
Son remembered, "I jumped at the opportunity because it was an opportunity to make a couple's fortune just by driving for 25 hours."
When Son returned, there was just a space in the garage to store most of the machines, and eventually a neighbor asked Son if he was going to take a picture and sell it, and just then a light bulb stuck in Son's head.
"I've always been a great networker with entrepreneurship and I know how to talk to people," Son said. "After that, I met a guy who was the biggest slot seller in North America and started working with him and eventually came up with the idea of a network of casinos. The rest, as they say, is history."
Today, the casino network has a variety of used components, including touch screens, LCDs, reel strips, and electronic components, supplied by manufacturers aristocracy, Bali, IGT, Konami, Spilo, and WMS, and supplies equipment for casinos in Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and the Caribbean, in addition to a few properties in Mexico. His client list includes Borige Resort & Casino, IP Casino Resort Spa and Treasure Bay Casino and Hotel in Biloxi, Gold Strike Casino Resort and Sam's Town Hotel & Casino Shreveport in Louisiana.
Over the past 27 years, there have been many peaks and valleys across casino networks and the gaming industry, thanks to economic downturns, technological advances, and most recently, the pandemic. When the business began, it was only Mr. Son and his wife, Luwela, who ran the company. The couple moved to Arlington, Texas, two years after the casino network began, once employing eight people and owning a 30,000-square-foot warehouse.
Today, the business is still thriving, but the employees have only returned to the Mike's and they run it from their homes.
"That's how it all started, and that's what we're going back to," CEO Sohn said. "When Corona hit, I saw the writing on the wall and decided to reduce it. So we came to the full circle."
"But we are still here and continue to grow. Once again, I go back to all the relationships I've managed to have over the years. This is why we were able to survive and thrive. I don't mean to brag, but the casino network couldn't exist without me. I don't think anyone else could have done what I did with this business. That's just true."
Without a doubt, starting work with Erik Black, Suncist Graphics's president, is Suncist Graphics' most important relationship. The Suncist Graphics account is responsible for nearly three quarters of the business that the casino network creates, and as a bonus Suncist Graphics and Black have become best friends.
"Working with Eric and Sunkist has been a real blessing and one of the main reasons we're still strong," Son said. "But believe me, it was not easy for us or the Sunkist to survive.
"A few years ago, Eric and I used to talk and say, 'We're going to be out of business soon because all these slot machines are going to film videos and they're not using glass anymore.' But to Eric's credit, we started to provide other things that the casino needed. We had to innovate."
"Today, even as every game turns to video and new technology emerges, the industry will need talent like us forever."
And Son is perfectly happy to keep plugging in and doesn't expect to retire anytime soon, nor does he want to.
"I love this industry and I'm excited," said Son, who is expecting big growth this year when he officially adds the Philippines to his territorial list. "I love people, I love gambling, and this is a very helpful and very profitable industry. I'm not going to get any younger, but the way we prepare for the situation is really fine-tuned machines. I'm 63 and I'll probably do this until I'm 80. And I wouldn't want it any other way." 바카라사이트

Cats
I am a huge cat person. Currently, I have 4 cats in our house but every time I see a cat in the street I feel like I want to bring them home. My future goal someday when I retire is having a cat sanctuary in the middle of the forest near a lake or a river. Where I can put all the stray cat, vaccinate and neutralized them, then bring them to the sanctuary.
Why I love cats? Because they're so independent. You don't need to walk them or pet them all the time. They'll come to you they need you. They don't need all of the attention and they do whatever they want. Just leave them alone as long as they have food and water and litter box, they're going to be okay. And of course, they're so cute and fluffy and just plain stupid sometimes.
Now, what it takes to have 4 cats in the house?  Here's the quick guide on how to nurture your feline friends at home.
1/ What to eat This can be different for each cat's parents, and I don't say that my method is the best. So my cats always eat wet food every night. We spend 2 cans for 5 days. For each cat, I put two full spoonfuls of wet cat food and mix it with a little bit of water so it looks like porridge.
Why mix it with the water? Because mainly, my cat's food is a dry one. The dry food is not good for their liver if they don't drink a lot of water. So I mix some water with the wet food every night so their daily intake of water is enough. With this way, not only that we can save up some money for cat's food but our feline friends are also going to be so happy.
2/ Cat's pee and poo I use a litter inside the litter box. For the brand of the litter, I use cat litter from Japan called Lara. I spend 2 sacks (@25 kg) of cat litter every month. Yes, that's a lot of cat litter. Somehow, my cats are poo and pee A LOT.
If you ask me what's the best cat litter, I can't answer it. You need to try a lot of them before you find the one who suitable for your home and your wallet. This cat litter that I've been using for months, it's not expensive but it's effective as it's clumping and absorb the smell. It's important for me since my cat litter box is inside the house. You don't want your house smells like a cat's poo.
And I always do the "treasure hunt" twice a day. At night before I sleep after I feed them, and in the morning before I work and after they eat breakfast. What you need is just a cat litter scoop and you do the treasure hunt by searching their poo and pee inside the litter box.
3/ How you play with them My cats are indoor. I never let them go outside at all since I am afraid that they're going to be lost or a dog will attack them since there's a lot of street dogs in Bali. So I just let them wander around inside the house or at least in the garage.
For their entertainment, they love boxes. So what I need is a lot of boxes. I just randomly put it everywhere inside the house and they'll play hide and seek all day long. They also love the cat tunnel. I just lay down a random tunnel on the floor and they'll play with it.
I also installed several scratch posts. It's really important for them since it's their nature.
4/ Their health and care They only need vaccines when they're still a kitten. And I always neutered my cats. It's really important since I don't want them to have kittens since it's going to be exploded by numbers. And if you don't neuter them, they're going to mark their territory and it smells so bad. And they're going to be a whiny cat since they need to breed.
Once in a while, if you have a long hair cat, they'll puke a furball. It's completely normal. When they groom themselves, they'll swallow some of the furs that they can't digest it. So of course, they're going to throw up these furballs.
And if they're sick, just bring it to the vet. Lol. For me, the hardest part when they're sick is to put the tablet (or pill) into their mouth for them to swallow it.
Do I bathe my cats? Yes, I do. But it's only twice in a year since it's not mandatory. They clean up themselves every day. And for the flea medicine, I use Frontline, it's also twice a year for each cat. - So that's it! As I said, it's going to be different for each person, and mine might be is not the best one. But it's pretty convenient and doesn't need a lot of stuff to do. I spend more or less 500k every month for all of the cats. And when they cuddle and purr every night with you, it's priceless for me. They never take me for granted and always love me unconditionally. I know they love me as much as I love them.

MINE: Porcelain Treasures + A Mirror
Yesterday I went on a high-stakes salvage adventure up to Albany. See, right now I’m looking really hard for nothing in particular so unfortunately it just had to be done.
I got a few things. You don’t drive an hour to simply turn away empty-handed. That would be unethical.
How stupid cute are these little porcelain bathroom sconces??? I’d guess they were made in the 1930s. I’m used to seeing sconces all the time that are similar to these, but I’m not really used to seeing that sweet bubbly rounded cloud-like shape on top. Precious! Naturally, every item in this store had price tags except all the things I bought (I don’t know why—it is just my way), so I was pleasantly surprised when the manager suggested $15 for the pair. Sold! They don’t have any sockets or wiring, but that’s easy enough to replace.
Where will these go? I don’t know, but I do know that $15 to have these two in my back pocket for some future bathroom renovation even if it isn’t my own makes me feel PREPARED.
By the way, they were super grody so I used my tried and true cleaning method of sticking ’em in the dishwasher. Thanks, Cascade!
Sometimes when it rains it pours, and yesterday’s theme was porcelain! ‘Tis what the thrifting higher being dictated. This is another porcelain light, also likely from the 1930s, also with no socket or wiring, also with no immediate function, but $5! You just gotta! I have a few lights very similar to this (including one I blogged about a while ago), and they just seem so handy for when you just need a little tasteful inconspicuous-but-still-special ceiling light.
I noticed later that it says “Alabax” on it, which I didn’t realize was actually a whole line of porcelain light fixtures produced by Pass & Seymour Inc. starting in the 1920s! I only knew it as the name of Schoolhouse Electric’s new production version, which I’ve used in a couple spaces over the years. IT’S ALL MAKING SENSE! The Schoolhouse versions are really lovely, and Rejuvenation has a few vintage ones available, and a nice write-up on their history.
More porcelain please, I do not have enough. Here we have a $1 plumbing escutcheon, sized for a 1 1/4″ pipe which is generally what’s used for a bathroom sink drain. I think this one will be for my downstairs powder room once I get around to it! It’s also just another good thing to have on hand because of COURSE when you really need one, they’re nowhere to be found.
ANDDDDD to round out the theme, I scrounged up 5 porcelain door knob escutcheons which match the door hardware in my house!! SEEE?!?!
It’s the little things! These have been super hard to find and of course break easily, so I’m missing a few around the house and unreasonably stoked to have a little stockpile to draw on as I inch along with restoring all the doors. At $2 a piece, they’re also by far the cheapest ones I’ve ever come across.
Amazingly, these literally came into the salvage place about an hour before I got there, and were still attached to the doors that the rad salvage guys had just pulled out of a DUMPSTER. Ugh, I mean, can you even? DOZENS of solid oak 1860s doors without a lick of paint on them and all the original hardware, in a goddamn dumpster. People are so infuriating. I’m so glad they got saved.
Anyway, salvage places usually remove all the hardware so they can store the doors more easily (and sell the hardware separately), so I offered to pitch in and take the escutcheons off myself and they gladly passed me a screwdriver! You can sort of see in the back of the group one that’s dis-assembled: there’s a round metal plate that screws into the door, and the porcelain part covers that and then a brass threaded piece screws into the metal plate and holds the porcelain part in place. Naturally these pieces always get separated from one another, so having FIVE complete sets is very exciting.
BTW, if you ever see those little white porcelain keyhole covers like the one on my door while out and about and they’re under like $10 a piece and you don’t buy them for me, we’re not friends. I’ll pay you back!!! They’re so elusive and so fragile.
Finally, this specimen. If you have more than two of something, it’s a collection, and therefore I collect mirrors like this. They have to be missing their frames (otherwise they’re just part of the mirror collection—I think of this more as a sub-collection, but it’s also been labeled “hoarding”), be an interesting shape, have beveled edges, and foil backing in vaguely this kind of disintegrating condition.
Right now they live in this totes-normal arrangement up in the den, but someday I’m sure I’ll do something else with them. It’s not like they’re creepy or anything.
Just don’t look directly at them or you’ll see the ghost. K have a great weekend everyone!!!
