Rustica Trattoria - South Main Street in Manville, NJ
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was pretty excited when I heard about Rustica Trattoria opening. I was already well-acquainted with all the pizza in the area surrounding my job so a new pizzeria opening minutes away?? Sign me up. For some reason I was under the impression that Rustica was a pie only joint so I called ahead to order what I thought was a plain pie...but turned out to be a margherita. Then when I went to pick it up, I found out they did sell individual slices! Oh well. The slice selection seems to be very slim compared to the pie selection, so I'm not too mad about it. Plus, the margherita has so far been my favorite slice from Rustica!
Tumblr media
I don't know what they put in the sauce, but it tastes great! Juicy and flavorful with an unexpected kick complimented by crust that's light and crispy while still having a little fluff to it. Really a margherita done right! I also went back to try plain and buffalo slices but neither one could really compare. I can't even remember what they tasted like they were so generic. If you don't mind getting a personal margherita pie, Rustica Trattoria is worth a scope. My pie was light enough that I was able to comfortably eat the whole thing by myself. The only real downside was the $11 price tag. Woof! If I was rating this just on the margherita I would probably bump it up to a 5, but factoring in the other slices I'm going to have to drop it to a 4.

What to say about Napoli? I have been to a few places in Italy but I was not ready for Napoli.
In three words : vibrant, busy and dirty. Each areas of the Napolitano city gives a different vibe: the crowded historic center, the posh Chiaia, the festive Spanish quarter, the quiet Vomero.
If you have time, and a fan of history, go check out the natural park of Vesuvio and the Pompeii site. Overall, Napoli will not leave you on the reserve. It is definitely a must-go. But not too long.
Try to escape the city to recharge. Not too far by boat, you have several islands to visit: Capri, Procida and Ischia.
For us, we decided to focus on Ischia. Only 50 minutes by speed boat with Alilaura company. The island is full of thermal swimming pools. We chose O'Vagnitiello, small and familial hotel on the edge of a private crique. Only a couple rooms available, I would recommend the king size room with sea view. Spectacular to wake up with the sun right in the room and the sound of the waves crushing right outside our window. The place is especially magical when all the daily guests leaves at the end of the day, then it is you and the few guests from the hotel with the owners. Really intimate in the best way. Breakfast and food from the restaurant will give you complete satisfaction: delicious, fresh and local. During the day, you have 4 natural and warm pools at your disposal, a sauna, a jacuzzi and of course the best pool of mother nature: the Mediterranean sea.
Tips:
1. I would definitely recommend to book your stay in low season such as late September - mid October. Less people during the day, many sunbeds available, quieter, and sea water still warm from the summer.
2. Book everything in advance: ferry, various entrances for churches, museums, natural parks, etc.
3. Stay in historic center, which will give you the chance to visit all areas of Napoli by foot. And you are close to many nice restaurants so you don't have to do long distance walking back to hotel.
4. Be careful to yourself and your belongings. Many pickpockets like in all big cities. Trust your instinct when traveling, be aware of your surroundings and people around you.
5. Where we ate? Pizzeria Brandi> for THE original pizza Margherita, Trattoria da Nennella> best cantina (good value for your money), Pizzeria Concettina ai Tre Santi> with one star Michelin and a very cute outdoor, Osteria Donna Teresa> in the very chic area near the funicular station.

Italian food has long been a staple of Sydney’s diverse and vibrant dining scene. From cozy trattorias to upscale ristorantes, you’ll find Italian restaurant Sydney passionate about pasta, pizza, antipasti and more. While tradition remains at the heart of Italian cuisine, a new wave of chefs and eateries are putting modern twists on classic dishes.
Here’s a look at what’s trending on Sydney’s Italian food scene, as well as old-world traditions still going strong:
Handmade Pasta Renaissance
From orecchiette to paccheri, gnocchi to tagliatelle - handmade pasta is having a moment. Stanley Street restaurants highlight freshly rolled and extruded pastas made in-house daily. Expect unique shapes and flavors like squid ink fettucine, beetroot ravioli, and pumpkin gnocchi. These textural homemade pastas showcase quality ingredients.

Neapolitan Pizza Perfection
Authentic Neapolitan-style pizza cooked in wood-fired ovens is on the rise. With charred and chewy crusts, San Marzano tomato sauce, and imported mozzarella - pizzerias are turning out gorgeous, flavor-packed pies. Expect classics like Margherita and Diavola as well as creative seasonal toppings.
Italian Regional Spotlight
More eateries are exploring regional Italian cuisines like Sicily, Sardinia, Puglia, and Emilia-Romagna. Expect dishes from best Italian restaurants Sydney highlighting grilled meats, seafood, olive oils, pastas, and produce native to each region. This gives diners a taste of Italy’s remarkable diversity.
Craft Cocktails
Leave basic Chianti behind. Darlinghurst restaurant and bars offer craft cocktails. These cocktails are Italian-inspired. They use amaros, liqueurs, Italian spirits, wines, fruits, herbs, and more. Think Negronis. Think Aperol Spritzes. Think Bellinis. Think new concoctions. These new concoctions feature Sicilian blood orange, Genovese basil, bergamot, and beyond.
Salumi & Formaggi
Many delicious Italian cheeses and cured meats are available, so charcuterie and cheese boards are very popular. Enjoy a feast of prosciutto, salami, mortadella, coppa, and culatello. These can be paired with Italian favorites such as Parmigiano-Reggiano, Pecorino Toscano, Gorgonzola, and Burrata. Great for appetizers before dinner.
Simplicity Done Right
Even with new trends, Sydney’s best Italian restaurants let prime ingredients shine through. Dishes like cacio e pepe, carbonara, saltimbocca alla Romana, branzino, and roasted meats executed flawlessly highlight quality and simplicity. This philosophy of letting great produce and technique speak for themselves remains at the core.
Italian Hospitality
Another tradition carrying forward is Italian hospitality and convivial dining. Eateries embrace a bustling yet homey trattoria vibe with frequent calls of “Ciao bella!” Warm service and a lively ambiance go hand-in-hand with the food.

Family Recipes
Many restaurants showcase recipes passed down for generations. House-made pastas, sauces, desserts, and cures keep old family traditions alive with care and expertise. Dining out becomes an authentic homestyle experience.
Fresh Produce & Ingredients
Italian cuisine culture centers on quality, seasonal ingredients. Menus shift to highlight ripe tomatoes in summer, mushrooms and truffles in autumn, and artichokes and fennel in winter. Expect the vibrant flavors of ultra-fresh vegetables, cheese, seafood and meats.
Conclusion
Sydney’s Italian food scene keeps evolving while staying rooted in tradition. For a sublime taste of Italy's flavors and hospitality, book your table at Funkatello in Darlinghurst. Our fresh pasta, pizza, seafood, wines and cocktails encapsulate both innovation and tradition.
