National Road 7C (DN7C), nicknamed Transfăgărăşan (from the prefix "trans-" + Făgăraș) connects Muntenia with Transylvania, crossing the Făgăraş Mountains, the highest in Romania, which are part of the Southern Carpathians. It is an asphalted road, reaching near the tunnel near Bâlea Lake at an altitude of 2042 m.

In places like Maramureş and Bucovina, the hillsides are patched with tiny villages where old women in headscarves sit outside, slicing apples with knives that have seen apples with knives that have seen generations pass. The air tastes of woodsmoke and fermenting grapes. The Transfăgărășan Road carves a jagged line through these mountains, and every twist and turn reveals another moment of jaw-dropping splendor. Here, the vineyards of Dealu Mare hang heavy with ripe clusters, a promise of wines that tell you stories of the earth, of history, of struggle and celebration.
