Me with Tox lowkey. but tbh, i think having a void creature as ur dad is kind of cool. He is just a hater.
Tumblr media
i love it when the creators of sanses are referred to as their parents/made their parents in aus of sorts. like cross deserves a mom. he’d definitely be a momma’s boy as a kid i think. momma cq is popular for a reason. they all deserve moms

Forgotten Perseverance - Epilogue
And it's time for the final chapter of the story!
I am very happy to have been able to present it to you ❤️
Although this is the end of Katharina's adventures it doesn't mean it's the end of the story😉.
For now, I'll let you know that I have a couple of projects coming up and I'm sure you'll love them.
Sans toasted his bottle of Ketchup. With his other hand he tapped on the cover of his journal. His story ended as he began to say how much he regretted it. He spoke quieter and quieter until he finally fell silent. You couldn't ask for more. Not at that moment. You thought you should collect your thoughts. You wondered if you were the first person to hear it. Or did you do the right thing by asking him?
You just remembered the last entries in your diary. How they got shorter and shorter. The initially confusing thoughts were becoming clearer. There was a thought that Sans had to read. There was also the end of the story that you had tox know.
Grillby walked up to Sans, placed another bottle of ketchup in front of him taking the old one. Sans looked at him fleetingly with a sad smile. The fire elemental patted him on the shoulder, disappearing behind the bar. You got the impression that someone besides you knew Sans' story and his feelings. This thought lifted your spirits.
“Once you've started, you should finish too, right?” said Sans, taking a long sip of Ketchup. It made you sick to your stomach, but who were you to judge someone else's tastes? Especially if your companion was a monster. “As I said, there wasn't much going on that week. Neither of us could speak to the other when we were alone. We were supposed to go exploring the Capital. Neither I nor Paps had ever been there, although there were times when my father visited the King. Only he never took us with him when he was there on business.”
...
We wanted to meet in Hotland by the laboratory. The other day, me and Alphys were working. I mean...
She was working and I was spending the day with my father. I was going to get to know his work inside out so I could decide if I really wanted to become a scientist. It didn't matter how good that day with my father was. It was like for the first time in a long time I felt I had something to talk to him about, or felt he was beside us. It was overshadowed by that. I felt like those two events - the day with my father in the lab and the moment when....
When a guard ran into my father's laboratory. I don't know what happened before that. In the sense of Papyrus and Undyne. My brother was little at the time and what happened was terrible. I didn't want to burden him with it. My father didn't either. He tried to talk to Undyne about what exactly happened, but I didn't find out any more than I did that day.
A security guard ran into Father's laboratory. We were just on our lunch break. Earlier, Dad had shown me around. We wanted to eat something at his office. I don't even remember what we talked about, but it was nice. This guard surprised us. Usually no one enters my father's office without knocking. Everyone showed him respect there. Maybe a few were afraid of him too.
“What are you doing! This is not some pigsty!” stood up the indignant father.
“I'm sorry, but...” the guard was taken aback. He stood up as if he had been caught off guard.
I don't think he expected such vehemence from my father. Well... He really hated it when someone entered his studio like that. I can partly understand that. If he was working on something delicate and someone barged in like that he might get scared. Are there enough incidents like that?
“Have you forgotten how to speak! Apparently you came with something urgent!”
The guard twitched. He stammered, but his father's renewed command brought him back to reality.
“A girl had come. A fish. She said something about your second son. Apparently rocks had fallen.”
After these words, no more came to me. I had the impression that everything was happening as if behind glass. It is difficult to describe. Those words made me imagine the worst things. It flashed through my mind that....
My little brother is dead.
It echoed in my head. It didn't want to come out. All I remember is my father saying something to me. I don't know completely what. Then he sat me down in a chair and left me. I didn't notice it at first. He teleported away.
Later he said he had teleported himself. He took two guards with him. Together they moved to Waterfall. The father used magic to find Papyrus. Being a parent, he gave us some of his magic. Every parent can sense their child's magic, but not only that. They also feel when a child dies. Dad felt nothing, so he suspected that Papyrus must have been injured, but he was alive. This did not mean that his life was not in danger.
He moved to the area around one of the bridges. There were no railings there. No safety devices. Apparently the ground subsided when Papyrus stepped off the bridge. And then it happened. The youngster fell. According to his father's suspicions, Katharina caught him when the ground slid. I think she wanted to push him away. I don't know. They both fell onto a rocky ledge several metres below.
Father together with the guards pulled them out. Papyrus was unconscious. He had a few abrasions, but Katharina. Her wounds were really serious. Apparently she accepted all the injuries, only Dad continued to be uncomfortable with Papyrus' injuries, or rather the lack of them. He had a theory that Kath had used magic. She must have created something like a shield, but she was only able to encompass Papyrus with it. If not for that, it is possible that he would not be with us now. She saved his life.
Father appeared with guards. One of them was holding Papyrus and Father was holding Katharina. Again there were voices, but I didn't understand anything. I just watched as they put Paps in an armchair and Father disappeared into the other room. I think he also told them to go get Saera and Lao, because they appeared a while later.
From what I recall, Lao was someone who knew the most about human anatomy. Some hobby of his. I didn't know him very well. He was one of the scientists who died in a lab accident. The same as my father and many other workers. Only I didn't about that.
Lao went to help his father. I don't know what exactly they did, but father always said he tried his best. I have no idea what it was, but I think it had something to do with the argument between Dad and Lao. I heard them once and as soon as they saw me they stopped.
Papyrus was taken care of by Saera, but she didn't have much to do. The youngster only had a few scratches, which she quickly healed. He woke up. He was... very confused, frightened. I had never seen him like that. Not even after that accident in the Ruins. He was hunched over. He was shaking all over. He was mumbling something under his breath. Unintelligible, because he was in tears. Saera tried to comfort him somehow. She hugged him, telling him that everything would be fine. It didn't help. I think that sobered me up the most. At least enough for me to get up and walk over to my brother. I sat down next to the chair on the ground. I took Papyrus' hands in mine and gently massaged them. He was very warm. His magic was even boiling in my bones. This was not good. For young monsters, such extreme emotional states affected the formation of magic and even the soul itself. Monsters could really die of sadness. In our case, heartbreak is not just figurative. I helped Paps down from his seat. He immediately cuddled into me, however, he did not stop shaking. He was crying a lot. Having him so close to me, I could feel the pulsating magic. I embraced him, massaging his back.
“I am here,” I said to him.
I closed my eyes, concentrating on my own magic. I needed to calm my brother down, so I surrounded him with magic. I wanted him to feel it. He knew I was here and not going anywhere. I myself was very scared about what was happening to Katharina. About whether she would survive, but my brother witnessed it. Many thoughts could have flown through his skull at that time. He was so small and vulnerable. He needed me. I tried to get him to calm down through my magic. I needed to calm down myself. I massaged his back, repeating over and over that I was.
I don't know how long it took. Papyrus began to calm down and his magic to cool down. Gradually, he stopped shaking and his tears had stopped flowing.
“I'm sorry” said Paps, snuggling into my shoulder.
“It’s okey” I said, touching his forehead with mine.
“Paps, it was an accident,” added Saera. “Your father is the best. He's Gaster after all” she smiled slightly.
She really put great faith in our father. At the time I wanted to believe in him like that too, but I was more of a pessimist than others. I preferred to consider every possibility, but that didn't mean I didn't have hope. A few minutes later, my brother fell asleep because of so many emotions. I let Saera use magic to move my brother back to the chair.
“You should rest too” she turned to me, covering my brother with a blanket.
“No,' I said, looking at my brother's face. He was sleeping really soundly.” I prefer to sit here.
“You'd better get some sleep too. You're also a child, whose magic needs to calm down”
“I'll manage”
”Sans, please”
I sighed heavily, accepting the blanket from her. I wrapped myself up tightly with it, moving closer to the armchair. I leaned back against it. I found the whole thing overwhelming. I wanted to close my eyes for a moment, and in the other I heard my father's voice. Quiet at first, and then louder and louder. He was talking to Saera. I didn't know when he had come. I must have fallen asleep. My neck hurt from sleeping on the floor.
“Dad”
“You're awake” stated my father, coming up to me. He looked very tired. He had deep bags under his eyes. His usually white apron, was stained. There were several brown stains at the sleeves and torso.
“Daddy” said Papyrus, who was also awake.
Paps knelt down next to us. Paps stretched his arms towards him and he embraced him. After a moment, Father moved away from him, but did not let go. He put his hand on my shoulder. I saw him gather himself together. He opened his mouth, only to close it a moment later.
“Boys” Father sighed heavily, lowering his head for a moment. I felt my father's hand tremble slightly. “Katharina is seriously injured.”
Father told us that Kath was dying. Her injuries were serious enough that she would not survive until morning. He and Lao tried to do everything they could. They tried to use healing magic to heal her wounds. They managed to heal some of them, but not all of them and not fully. Lao took care of the injuries that his father could not fully heal. He stitched and dressed the wounds. He set the fractures. Unfortunately, Kath's body could not absorb any more magic. She was not a monster whose every injury could heal so easily. She needed blood. She had lost a great deal of it making her body slowly weaken.
No one in the Underworld could help her. No monster had a material body, so could not be a donor. The only thing Father and Lao could do was to relieve her in her last hours. She would feel no pain, she would just fall asleep. That's what the father said.
Most surreal was the sight of Katharina lying on the couch. Covered with a blanket, pale as a wall. Bruises under her eyes, her lips bruised. Lao was crouching beside her, adjusting some sort of brace on her arm. She was measuring her blood pressure and pulse, displaying it in real time. When she saw us she smiled slightly. Only he wasn't glowing like he always did.
Papyrus let go of his father's arm. He ran up to Katharina, hugging her. I could see her trying to keep her smile.
“Hey. How about being a little more careful?” Said Lao sternly, grabbing my brother's arm.
Papyrus looked at him surprised. My father decided to step in.
Lao, we would like to sit with her.
“Okay, doctor,” he said, getting up from the floor. He shrugged off his apron. - “Just remember that every action has its consequences“
“This is not the time or place for this conversation” hissed the father towards the outgoing Lao.
To this day I don't know what that exchange of words was about. Then I made the association that maybe it was about handing over Katharina's soul to the king. Father was the only one who did it, but then he.... He changed. Something in his magic had changed. I don't know what, but it was at the same time familiar yet alien. I tried to talk to him about it once, but he dismissed me.
Those last few hours were spent sitting with Katharina. Papyrus lay down next to her on the sofa. He cuddled into her and quietly burped. Kath was drawing patterns on his back, moving her fingers around. She was telling him the plot of a cartoon we found a week ago at the dump. She said he would really like it. It was about some iron robot from outer space who befriends a boy.
“’Will you watch it with me?” Papyrus asked, in a cracking voice.
I looked at my father, who was sitting in a chair next to the sofa. We both looked at each other slightly confused.
“Papyrus... “
“Sure. Together with Sans” Katharina interrupted my father. “Maybe at some weekend, so that Mr Gaster can join us.”
“Paps” My father looked at me. I understood what he meant. “That's a good idea.”
Katharina and Father's intention was to comfort Paps, at least for a while. He was a young child who probably blamed himself for all this. Something as normal as setting up a movie night, even one that would never come true at least for a while, helped to take his mind off what was to come.
“'He's asleep,” his father stated. “I'll take him. He's probably heavy” Dad picked up Papyrus, took him into the other room. I saw him put him on the armchair through the open door.
“Sans” Kath said weakly, breaking the silence. I turned towards her. I had been sitting on the floor the whole time. “Can I hold your hand?” She asked. Barely audible at the end, her voice faltered slightly.
“Sure” I said, grabbing her hand. She tried to tighten her fingers on my hand, but she was so weak. I massaged the top of her palm with my thumb.
Neither of us spoke. We just looked into each other's eyes. Somehow neither of us felt the need to say anything. This silence was different. Ours. We didn't need words. I knew he was scared. She didn't want to say it. She tried, but couldn't bring herself to speak. She opened her mouth. Her lower lip trembled, and after a moment she bit it. Her eyes glazed over.
“I am. I'm not going anywhere”
We sat like that and looked at each other. That was enough. I didn't want to leave her. I wanted to be with her until the end. And I was. I don't even know when my father was behind me. He put his hand on my shoulder.
“I'm tired” Katharina said. Her eyes were closing, although she tried to keep them open. Her breathing became shallower. Father leaned over to check her brace.
“Rest,” her father said gently, placing his hand on her forehead. He massaged the base of her nose. When I was younger he used to do that to me himself It was very soothing.
“We will be here, so sleep” I said, taking her hand in mine. “When you wake up, we will watch the stars together. I promise”
Closing her eyes she had a beautiful smile on her face. Her breathing became weaker and weaker until her chest stopped moving. All the while I held her hand until the very end. When she pulled away I let my emotions take over. I closed my eyes, letting the tears fly. I squeezed her still hand, crying.
I wasn't the one who took her soul. I couldn't. It was my father who did it. He hid the purple heart to take it to King Asgore later. For the first time in my life I thought what we were doing was wrong. This is not how things should happen, but what could I do. I was a child, there was not much I could do then.
My father took Katharina's soul and body to the castle. They were to wait there until the barrier was destroyed. Then they were to be handed over to the family when we went to the Surface. The bodies were to be enclosed in metal coffins, designed by Father. Apparently, these kept the human bodies from decomposing.
I don't know what happened during the first days. I was always waiting for the right moment to apologise to her for that kiss in the Ruins. I didn't have the opportunity like for many other things. I wanted to tell her...
....
You saw the skeleton staring at the ketchup bottle. You knew there was nothing more to tell. Katharina's story ended that day when she left in the lab. Maybe her story didn't give you any clue how to convince Asgor, you knewx. You knew her story. Who she was j how important she had become. You thanked Sans for telling her story.
You said that she must have been a very good friend.
“She was," he sighed, smiling slightly in your direction.
There was only one thing to do.
You asked the skeleton to look at the last page of the diary. He looked at you frowning.
He seemed slightly surprised by this request.
“Frisk, I don't know if that's appropriate,” Sans replied, tightening his fingers on the cover of the journal.
You ask him again, but the skeleton refuses. Only you are determined. You said it was really important. Sans looked at you carefully, mirroring you. The usual smile you've seen from him so many times appeared on his face.
This time you knew what was underneath it.
“It's okay, you won't give in," said the skeleton, putting a hand on your shoulder. “I'll deal with it later. I promise, and right now I have to adjourn to Waterfall.”
Again the waterfalls and strange blue plants surrounded themselves. The skeleton said goodbye, but you knew. Sans was poor at keeping promises.
The skeleton teleported to his home. To her room, which had changed nothing over the years. It was exactly the same as the last time Katharina had been in it. It seemed as if she was about to return, but Sans knew it was just a silly impression. He looked at the journal he held in his hands. He remembered it. The cover was a little faded, but it was the same notebook that Kath carried with her all the time.
She wrote down her thoughts and innermost secrets in it. A thought ran through his skull that he should listen to Frisk. He only quickly dismissed it. He wouldn't be able to do that. He would feel that he would betray her even more like that day in the Ruins.
He did not want to destroy the memory of her. Was she angry with him for that day? He didn't feel up to looking.
He put the notebook down next to the bedside table. She usually put it there. He turned towards the exit to the corridor.
He heard Papyrus shuffling around in the kitchen. A storm awaited him for skipping dinner together. He sighed as he pressed the door handle. Even before leaving, he glanced around her room.
On Katharina's bed still lay his blue fleece, which the girl kept stealing from him. He had brought it here a few days after her death. He figured this was the right place. He closed the door behind him.
“Hello, brother! I didn't know when you came back!”

Ça me prend ,ça me tiraille jusqu'à l'aurore délavé
