When you’re unguided and lowkey stupid, you want to improve the world. You’re just unsure how to go about it. Reimu reasons we need a “people’s God,” and so she replaces the Hakurei God.

Talking with Amber has me thinking about the modern day AUs for my Touhou muses.

Kogasa is a Kindergarten teacher who is much older than she appears. She has a blacksmithing hobby and a long-running youtube video series where she makes a Katana from scratch using 100% authentic traditional materials and methods. Her past is a mystery, and full of surprises. She is still bad at surprising people intentionally.

Tenshi is a delinquent student who, despite cutting classes, is the queen of makeup exams. While she's rough and tumble and prefers sports to studying, she's aiming to become a meteorologist in the future. She still doesn't have a great relationship with her family, and lives in student housing.

Masa is a professional courier for hire, primarily doing work for major corporations and conglomerates. However, she also does deliveries outside of work, for favours or extra pay; no questions asked and guaranteed success. She's a favourite service among criminal groups. She still has her blackmailing hobby.

Medicine is a troublesome student, but not because she's a delinquent or has poor grades. Rather, Medicine's grades are excellent, and at a glance she seems like a model student... except she's obsessed with poisons and chemistry, and has caused a number of incidents at the school. She's an orphan living at the Eientei Clinic.

Reimu still operates the Hakurei Shrine, though now it has things like electricity and air conditioning. She spends her days tending to the grounds, hearing the prayers of the few frequent visitors, and raising baby freshwater turtles in the pond out back. Truthfully, little has really changed.

Answering about actual fics that I want to write in 2024 because I have two more fics that will come out around January 1st but they're technically 2023 event fics.

6. Which yet-to-be-started fic is first on your list?

A fic for the TV show "From" about my rarepair Kristi/Sara. The title is Girls Night Out. It was pretty low on my priority list but now that season 3 has been announced I really want to get this out there before my love for earlier season characterization runs out!

Touhou-wise this is a running gag at this point because I already said it last year and ended up writing something else but SeiShin dream world fic for 2024? I already have a wip for a Survival AU but I might put it on hold for now because it's the kind of setting that's more fun to write during the summer.

8. Is there a story idea in your mental vault that you’ve never been brave enough to try writing? Is this the year? Can you tell us about it?

Actually, no, because for me 2023 was the year of scrapping the intimidating fics from my mental vault! I think this is something that's pretty specific to the Touhou fandom, but I realized a lot of my complex longfics ideas were... Manifestos more than actual stories I wanted to tell. We have so many canon elements that are up to interpretation; I think I'm not the only one feeling like I first have to justify my worldbuilding with a longfic (regarding the most complex Touhou storylines like Hifuu, the history of the Moriya Shrine, Yuyuko's backstory...) before I can tell stories about the concerned characters. In reality, while manifesto-like fics are v popular and I've read some really cool ones, there's a lot of things a reader can "Yes and" without hand-holding. I looked at my list of future touhou fics long and hard and asked myself, do I want to write this fic or do I want people to know I headcanon what's in this fic? And once I kicked out the second category, no intimidating fic was left.

15. Do you foresee any personal or professional obstacles this year, that would keep you from creating fanworks?

Oh yeah for sure lol. I'm currently not working full time but this is only temporary, and I'm expecting to start again in February or March. I'm not going to be less prolific than this year (this year had full time work with a lot of responsibilities as head of a technical department + chronic illness) but probably not more either (because it's looking like it's going to be pretty much the same). On the bright side, one of my goals when taking some time off this winter was to work on my time and health management to make the best of my free time, so maybe I'll be better at, for instance, consistently writing during lunch break at work? I hope so! :)

2024 ask game

Since I have other fics in progress, I feel like this is a good time to finally talk about the other other version of WTST that I mentioned here.

There is no difference to what Emmet goes through in Hisui, but what goes on with Ingo is. Uh. Worse than in the main fic.

Okay, first, to prevent confusion:

The Future Will Be Special, the Past Was Not (named after the extra stage theme, "Tomorrow Will Be Special, Yesterday Was Not," from Touhou 10: Mountain of Faith) is the companion fic to the main, original Welcome to Sinnoh's Temple fic; it has not been completed yet, unfortunately, but it essentially tells Ingo's side of the story, much in the same way that WTST tells Emmet's side of the story.

A Promise Broken Is a Lie Told is the version of things alluded to in the above post, where Ingo handles Emmet's disappearance... very badly. This is the version of things that I'm talking about in this post.

Fic talk below the cut -- be warned of themes such as self-blame, self-hatred, bad coping mechanisms, and self-isolation. Please let me know if I should tag anything else. Thank you.

Little changed about the incident -- Emmet's disappearance -- itself; it was really more of a hypothetical scenario where Ingo did not handle his grief well at all, taking his twin's disappearance worse than in the main scheme of things, and it leads to him making some very bad choices.

Bad choices include:

Taking all of the blame for Emmet's disappearance upon himself, even though there is really nobody to blame and it was, as far as anyone can tell, a freak accident. However, in the wake of tragedy, it is human nature to want to pin the event on somebody -- Ingo just happened to pin that blame on himself.

Isolating himself from his family. In the original companion fic, his family -- Drayden, Iris, and Elesa -- is a huge well of support for him. They still are in this version of things, but he spirals just a bit too far and, in his desperation to remove himself and his problems from them so as to not be a burden, he keeps them at arms' length, denying himself their support.

Applying value to himself based on things beyond his control. When he and Emmet were little, they lost their parents, and in an effort to comfort both Emmet and himself, Ingo promised that they would always be there for each other. Naturally, that was derailed, and even though it was a mutually-kept promise -- Emmet had insisted that it wasn't fair for Ingo to be the only one upholding it and that it was his promise, too -- he views himself as the one at fault.

As a direct result of the above point, Ingo considers himself a failure because he couldn't keep Emmet close -- whether something stole Emmet away or Emmet left of his own accord, it isn't 100% certain, but what matters is that he's gone.

Coping by "replacing" Emmet with something else to be protected. A way to prove that he does still have value in that he can keep something close to him, or that he's competent in being able to protect something. This is also a way for him to feel somewhat in control.

The replacement feeds into the points about denying himself familial support and keeping himself away from loved ones so as to not be a "burden." How? The last point:

"Proving" himself -- to himself -- by taking the title of Champion And chooses to remain in the Pokemon League, at the end of Victory Road, as much as possible, making it harder for anyone to get to him in the first place.

Surprise, Champion Ingo AU! He gets a coat.

As an aside, to pursue the Champion title, he resigned from Gear Station, thereby also cutting himself off from the Depot Agents -- also known as his family away from home because they are all fantastic beans who care for each other and very much, like a good little healthy work unit.

Speaking of healthy things, Bad Decision number... 6? 7? Number x:

Neglects himself in favor of looking for Emmet in his free time. Of course. He doesn't give himself any time to relax. This worries literally everyone he comes across, because it shows. In multiple ways. He does not look in a good way, even if he's all prim and proper for a challenger. Everyone can tell. Everyone.

He leaves Gear Station about six months after Emmet disappears, traumatizes the Elite Four and Alder, and becomes Unova's Champion. And then proceeds to near-murder every challenger who reaches him.

Politely, of course.

He may be drowning in self-blame that's bleeding into hatred and waging his self-worth on how well he can defend his title, but he's still polite!

Anyway, that's the basis of the fic. It's really an excuse for me to be mean to Ingo, much like how Welcome to Sinnoh's Temple was -- and still is -- and excuse for me to be mean to Emmet.

There is a happy ending. And therapy. Lots and lots of therapy.

Thanks for muddling through this! It's a bit nerve-wracking to post, like Pandemonic Planet, because apparently I am extremely self-conscious about posting self-indulgent things. And frankly, this particular flavor of WTST isn't fundamentally super different -- it's just hypothetical.

But also the urge to justify my hypotheticals is strong, and I... don't have much of a justification for this beyond "hehehe sad train man go brrrrrrrrrr." Sorry.

This is all still in progress, of course, cooking on the back burner behind all my other fics, but some things are subject to change in the future. Things will probably be added or removed as the idea develops.

I think second most might be Ace Attorney (though I have never finished Spirit of Justice and ever started the Dai Gyakuten Saiban series). I used to write a decent amount of meta thoughts on it and had a short list of what I imagined an Ace Attorney Investigations III would look like, it's still floating around somewhere on Tumblr under my old blog...

L, a quote from one of your fandoms which you absolutely adore:

This is a bit of a cheat because I think it works specifically if you know they're from back to back movies (the former from Movie 11 and the latter from Movie 12). They're a very lovely pair of moments that I think captures a lot of the trust and faith Conan and Ai have in each other.

I know the term they specifically use is 'aibou' but I have heard it's slowly becoming a term to have a romantic sense and I, personally do like the term partner as a romantic term, too...

I, a book you can read over and over:

A Tour of Calculus by David Berlinkski. I like reading about the history of mathematics. I don't know if I can fully read it right now and follow all of the logic since it's been a long time since I've read anything about mathematics in full detail, but I would like to give it a go in the neat future.

Also, I love that one of the chapters is just title "Yo."

C, which fandom do you know the most about?

Touhou Project just because of sheer scale and how long it's been running. I would argue, even though I only focus on like a small faction of Touhou, it's still a lot.

It's a very dense series and even if you only focus a small section you end up learning a lot.

E, a character you think you’re the most like?

Ema Skye from Ace Attorney. I can't help but feel a lot for her about her frustrations in her career path and wanting to repay my debts to others but not able to due to circumstances out side of my control.

Y, which of your favourite shows has the worst writing?:

Detective Conan, but I think is in part to Aoyama wanting to push for like 200 volumes and so there's a lot of easy points.

One moment that I find particularly off-putting is Haibara's restrained reaction to Kid tazing Conan. It just felt off and it's one of those moments that I really felt my suspension of disbelief breaking.

The other moment is during the London Arc where Ran shouts at Shinichi to "deduce her heart". That moment made me incredibly uncomfortable.

S, which ship do you have an infinite amount of songs for?

Honestly, none. I have like one romantic song that I will shamelessly slap onto all of my OTPs instead.

Functionally, they're the same, but my read of it is a little bit more personal? And I always thought it suited a bit more once you know the featured artist, Suboi, is married to Nodey.

At the moment, Makomo.

I don't know why but when I'm alone I find myself muttering "Everyone shut the fuck up, right now, Makomo's here" every time I saw her and it's kind of evolved a bit where my friends will send me art with the caption: "Everyone be quiet!!! She's here!!!" and I just get really happy? I love her dearly.

E, a character you think you’re the most like?

Haibara Ai, I just love her arc and her coming to terms with the past and how it doesn't define her who she is today. She's rebuilding her life and finding joy in the people who love her.

R, best book to film adaptation, in your opinion?

This is cringe and a failure on me since I don't have usually pick up a lot of books and movie adaptations together so my only answer is, sadly, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

I, a book you can read over and over

I'm not entirely sure if I should count it since I'm really only reading it for one specific chapter but, One-Winged Butterfly, specifically the chapter "For Those Who Do Not Smile."

There's a lot of fun details that just bring a smile to my face.

Touhou Project AU: Fate of Gensokyo

Lore

Setting: Set where Reimu (and other characters her age, like Marisa) is in her late teens (at youngest, she's 17, while at oldest, she's 19).

Synopsis: A few years after her latest adventure, Reimu has begun to make her own choices in life, becoming more independent as she strives to forge her own future. However, a new threat is arising from within Gensokyo; a threat that will determine the futures of EVERYONE within it.

Changes

The STORY change is a result of me not being a fan of ZUN's storytelling. I find certain stories in the Touhou games to be boring and not as serious or interesting as they could've been, as they have serious potential.

Most CHARACTER changes are due to the characters' age and the AU's plot. This includes a more mature personality (while staying true to canon) and appearance (while not over-exaggerating). At most, the human characters are a full foot taller and have a lean, athletic, or muscular build now, due to the amount of fighting that's happened as a result of the incidents.

A few human characters has headed to the outside world for a different path in life. These include Sakuya, Marisa, and Reimu.

Out of all the characters, Reimu is the one who changes most significantly. She has grown taller, has shorter hair, has a more muscular build, and has become more serious.

As stated earlier, she has begun searching for her own path in life. A life OUTSIDE of Gensokyo and being a shrine maiden. This has caused some friction between her, other maidens, and of course, Yukari.

Characters

Major

Protagonists: Reimu, Marisa, Sakuya, Remilia, Sanae, Kanako.

Support: Sendai Hakurei No Miko, Yukari, Ran, Byakuren, Toyosatomimi no Miko, Alice, Oni Miko and White Reimu (treated as ancestors of Reimu), Dragon God.

Antagonists: Maga-Reimu (Wicked Reimu), Gensokyo, and certain residents.

Pretty much the rest of Touhou's cast of characters, including the rest of Japan.

About the Sendai Hakurei No Miko

Okay, so given that this character is the most popular OC in Touhou content, I would like to go over my interpretation of her.

Firstly, she has four official forms.

Her human form was what her base form evolved from. It is very similar to her base, with the exceptions of being shorter, having shorter hair, a lean and thin physique, and black eyes. This is what she was like when she was in her early 20s.

Her base form (provided by Rion) is her fueled with her powers as a shrine maiden. In terms of appearance, this is what she looked like when she was at her prime and raising the infant/toddler Reimu, so in her late 20s to early 30s. Her eyes are blue, she's lean and fit, and has short hair.

Her demon form (provided by warugaki) is her borrowing the powers of Hell. Due to this, her appearance changes to having much longer hair, a more voluptuous body, an increase in height, and piercing red eyes, all matched with a cold-blooded killer-instinct demeanor.

Her angel form (provided by lockheart) is her using the powers of the heavens. Her appearance is similar to her demon form, which the sole changes being her yellow eyes and her overall demeanor being less threatening and far more calm, though still intimidating.

Her end form is an older version of her base form, as well as much weaker, due to her shrine maiden powers sweeping away as she gets older. Her accelerated aging is a horrendous side effect of her power usage and consumption, so while she in her late 30s, she looks like she's in her 50s to 60s. Her hair is now gray. Her eyes are white, due to her power usage. Her physique is frail and thin. However, she is able to use her base form's power and transform into a more youthful state, at the cost of her power becoming even weaker.

In regards to her personality, in both her base and true forms, she has a gentle and more cheerful demeanor surrounding her. She is filled with so much love in her heart that she can't bare the thought of losing someone she cares about. She can be a worrywart, but she knows to trust people. In spite of her forms, this never changes. She is best described as a Mama Bear/Wolf and is a good mother to Reimu, in spite of Sendai's struggles and challenges.

-Dio steals Johnathan’s girlfriends first kiss 

-Dio kills his dad and becomes vampire

-happens in Egypt in the 1980s

-Dio is back and dresses like a stupid looking banana

Can’t believe my last post here was 4 years ago... So ashamed. I need to fix this!

It was a looooong period, in which I took a rest from touhou fandom and most of my hobbies. A lot of things happened. I managed to get the bachelor degree at economics and now I study to get the magister degree. Now I feel refreshed and think that this blog needs changes.

1. More #outofmasks . That means I will post here my touhou arts, animations and maybe fanfictions if I feel like it. Also I’ll share more of my headcanons and thoughts on touhou girls. I need to be more brave when it comes to expressing myself.

2. I thought a lot about Kokoro, her character development and future. Previousy, I was disappointed by the fact that she always stays a child and doesn’t really learn anything. It has gotten to the point she didn’t know nearly anything at all about the world she lives in. Actually, I have a story in my head that I imagined a long time ago and want to finally bring it to life here, in this blog.

3. About post pictures. I felt obligated to add them and they started repeating at some point. Also there were cases when I didn’t find specific pictures because of my headcanons. But worry not: as I roleplay here, I’ll draw them myself and gather the picture base as full as possible.

4. Other muses? Hmm... Maybe I’ll keep Yumemi. She has a lot of possibilities and I want to include Renko, Maribel and Sumireko as her companions. It will be fun.

5. I’m terribly sorry for the dropped roleplaying branches. It was fun, I don’t regret a single minute spent on writing all these posts, but due to the reasons written above, I won’t continue them. Also you may not want it yourself. If so, I understand. We can start it all over again, but please keep in mind that in the beginning there won’t be pictures or I’ll take them from previous posts if I see it fit.

6. Before I left, I also felt bored when roleplayed only in the canon setting. Sometimes I’ll feel like stepping away from it and come up with some au’s like a school- or sns au. Please don’t be afraid and don’t hesitate to join if you want. I’m still non-selective, after all.

☑ What is a plot idea you’re willing to play with virtually any partner? What makes that plot so special to you?

I’d like to push Sakuya out of her comfort zone to talk about her scars with someone. I’ve already got a thread going on with a Remilia but I’d like to write it with anyone. I like it because then it shows a side of Sakuya that she doesn’t let many people see.

☒ Is there any sort of behavior towards your muse (ic or ooc) that you simply cannot stand?

I fucking hate it when a mun tries to godmod Sakuya into doing things or having her face certain consequences without directly talking to me about it beforehand. This hasn’t happened much with Yukari, mostly Sakuya. Also the fact that some people actually think that I project myself on Sakuya or that the actions of the muse are the direct actions of the mun. Please stop that. Just talk to me.

✰ How did you decide your muse’s skills and talents? Do they relate to their occupation in some way?

I, myself sometimes come across those restoration videos where someone will restore something like a knife or a zippo lighter and I always thought they were pretty cool. It got me to thinking that with how much Sakuya loves knives, she probably knows how to forge and restore them! So I’ve decided to make that an interest for her. One that makes her very happy.

Ⅶ If you have multiple blogs and/or muses, which one is your favorite? Why?

I have a blog for Yukari Yakumo which you can find, here! Honestly I don’t know if I can pick a favorite between her and Sakuya. I love writing both a lot, although I think my excitement for writing an individual character changes every so often, so my focus will shift to that blog more.

I love Sakuya because well, she was my first rp blog ever made which was almost a year ago. She’s also one of my favorite characters in the Touhou Project series. I always find the most common fan theories about Touhou characters to be the most boring, so I tend to spice things up to curve people’s expectations and I’m quite happy with the results. The same can be said for Yukari. I’m quite happy with the direction I took her origin and I look forward to writing her more in the future.

❉ What is a dream AU for you? If you haven’t done it yet, why not?

I want to write Sakuya as a vampire slayer, because vampire slayers are cool as fuck. I’ve already done this with her SCP-Verse, but I feel like I kinda failed in that verse so I’m considering either rebooting it or deleting it in favor for another AU someday. Not right now though.

Buncha aesthetics of the Ninjas from different universe, particularly JoJo, Touhou, Madoka Magica, and Sailor Moon. I actually want to make one for Lloyd, but I’m gonna do that later. Maybe rebloging this post once I made that instead of updating. I’m also explaining about what is this 5 World Ninjago is, but since it’s gonna be a hella lot of writing, Imma put it under the cut.

The concept of 5 Worlds Ninjago is that there’s different (crossover) universes of Ninjago. Then there’s a team consisting of five elemental ‘Ninjas’ that protects the universes from destruction, disturbence, and anomalies, essentially making them Multiverse guardians. The team is founded and lead by Koichi Cole “CoKo” Brando, the eldest known illegitimate son of DIO and big ‘brother’ of Giorno Giovanna, Ungarel, Rykiel, and Donatello Versaces from JoJoverse Ninjago. A faithful partner of him is Zane Yakumo Julien, a nindroid youkai of ice and gap who also mastered the element of snow and water as well as the reincarnation of the ‘deceased’ original Zane Julien (who, y’know, ‘died’ in Season 3) from Touhouverse Ninjago. From time to time, the team has changes in membership. Each team has to at least have one member from the canon Ninjago universe as to anchoring themselves to their origin universe.

The first team was formed and operated for approximately 25 years before the members resigning themselves due to varying reasons, save for Cole Brando and Zane Yakumo. The first team consisted of:

Cole Brando of JoJoverse Ninjago,

Zane Yakumo of Touhouverse Ninjago,

Jay Wataru Walker (a half-Chinese, quarter-Japanese, quarter-Korean Ninja of Lightning who is also a Kamen Rider known as Kamen Rider JayVat, a partner to Hetalia’s China, IT and Physics teacher of Gakuen Doraemons, and ‘big brother’ of a Chinese robot cat named Wang Dora) from Crossover AU Ninjago (Ninjago with several indefinite crossover with other fandoms), resigning due to being busy with teaching and family,

Royodora (an earless lime green robot cat who takes the role of Green Ninja in his own universe) from DoraNinja universe (a crossover with Doraemon), resigning due to unknown reason,

Kai from the canon Ninjago universe a.k.a. the TV Series Ninjago, resigning due to being uncomfortable with the duty that was given upon him as multiverse guardian

The second and current team was formed when Cole Brando and Zane Yakumo stumbled upon the magical duo Jay Miki and Kai Tomoe. They are still operating until now and there’s no indication the members would resigning soon. The second team consisted of:
