Gaius Fitrei | Forty; Elite
House: Torren Status: Uninfected Elite Specification: Correctional Officer
History
With two loving parents, a modestly luxurious house, and an excellent school to attend, Gaius ought to have grown up beautifully. Every opportunity was laid out for him, and yet he rebelled against this from the start. Most of these rebellions were minor in nature, and could be waved off as youth in action. Through his teenage years though, he acted out more and more. At first it was just cutting class to smoke and offering up his middle finger to teachers in place of his homework, but before long it turned into doling out class A drugs to his classmates and starting fights in bars he was too young to be drinking in.
By the time he was eighteen, Gaius had seen the inside of more prison cells than your average violent alcoholic. And it wasn’t for want of his parents trying: at first they had gently encouraged him towards better behaviour; then they had tried smacking him when he acted out. They had cajoled and cried, hired professional help, shouted, whispered, and yet the more they tried, the more Gaius seemed to act out. The truth was that he felt stifled; he didn’t want the life his parents laid out for him, good though their intentions were. And yet how could he complain? He was by all accounts blessed, and his problems meant nothing more than the frustrations of a pampered little rich boy. The frustration grew in him, and the only way he had of excising it was through violence.
With his poor academic record and history of violent disputes with teachers and peers alike, he certainly wouldn’t have gone to university had his father not been particular friends with the head of it. The university didn’t want Gaius, and Gaius didn’t want it, but his father was extremely persuasive. Nobody had any say in the matter: he was going to study business, and he was going to complete the four year course. Gaius agreed, grudgingly, on the stipulation that after graduation his parents would permanently and completely get out of his life.
True to form, Gaius didn’t hand in a scrap of work and was universally disliked by his peers for his habit of bringing group projects crashing to the ground. He had his share of girlfriends, but none stayed for long– - his temper was something to be feared. His only friends were the kids he ended up dealing to; and somehow this made him more miserable than anything. It wasn’t that Gaius wanted to fit the stereotype of angry youth, he just fell naturally into the mould. The university would have found a way to throw him out sooner or later, were it not for the MI5 scout that came around. They often recruited from top universities, and Gaius caught his eye. He didn’t have the intelligence they usually wanted, but he held himself with a sort of ruthless arrogance that would be useful to them.
More bemused than ever at the way life had a way of just happening to him, Gaius found himself training to protect national security. He fit in nicely with the international terrorism group; not because he excelled at sniffing them out, but because he excelled at getting answers out of them. It was a shame he wasn’t allowed to boast, because Gaius was more or less solely responsible for stopping at least three major acts of terrorism against Britain. Regrettably, he had to maintain a great degree of secrecy; as far as anyone else was aware, he was a run of the mill police officer, beating the streets.
Although the successes he met were the result of a violent lack of empathy, nobody could deny the results Gaius achieved– - and nobody was going to kick up too much fuss about a terrorist getting roughed up. One case saw him scouting out a dull government party that they suspected would be infiltrated, and Gaius was forced to mingle. One woman took a particular interest in him, and at first he wondered if she herself was a terrorist, and he had been sussed. Clearly there was no weaponry beneath her chiffon concoction of a dress though, and her attention became a hindrance. On the professional side of things, it was a quiet night: no acts of terrorism to speak of. On the personal side, he somehow found himself booked in on a romantic dinner at an expensive Cambodian restaurant. It was strange that a man so forceful and so confident could be drowning so deeply in life’s river: at first it was his parents pushing him into whichever boxes they decided would suit him, and then it was the government somehow shoehorning him into a job he would never have otherwise considered, and then it was a beautiful woman deciding there was nothing better than his dour company.
At first he went on various dates with Mei Zhu because it suited him to have a cover. A family man is less of a threat than a single man living alone and disappearing for great lengths of time. But over the following months, he found himself falling in love with Mei Zhu. She was elegant in a way he had never seen before, a porcelain vase he was sure his rough hands would break. Gaius had had enough girlfriends to know that sooner or later, he would raise his voice, or worst, a fist. And he did try to push her away, but it was half hearted: his want to protect her from himself was outweighed by the pleasure he got out of his company. He didn’t notice the fact that she was devastatingly uninterested in him as a person; but his heart would have broken had he realised.
When she proposed, his instinct was to refuse. He was in constant danger due to his job, and marrying Mei Zhu would only endanger her, too. But his heart has always spoken louder than his brain, and Gaius agreed. Though he tried to keep his new wife at arm’s length, for her own sake, he loved their little home. He was often away on work, and each night away from her was a struggle. While Mei Zhu seemed focused on her career, Gaius was considering his desire to start a family.
Gaius Today
It wasn’t on the cards for him. Because of course, nothing ever pans out quite how Gaius plans. He was spending a quiet day in with his wife when the asteroids began to fall; and though he would never say it, he felt very much in his element. A great deal of his training was geared towards reacting to stressful situations, and for the first time in his marriage he felt needed by Mei Zhu.
As they sped out of the city, they passed many sights to which she closed her eyes; Gaius didn’t need to. His heart was closed to them– it was like several jobs he had been assigned to over the years. There was one person he must protect, and never mind the rest. With those blinders on, he kept them safe for quite some time. Rather than growing frustrated with Mei Zhu’s inability, or unwillingness, to help, he valued taking care of her. In the night when she lay asleep in the back of their car, he crept outside to scout out any potential threats. Any he found, he disposed of.
Gaius was confident he could maintain their lifestyle indefinitely, but it wasn’t good for them. They were surviving, but little more than that– it was in hope of a more complete life that he allowed a crusading party to find them. He had been watching them for days and was certain they were safe.
And indeed, they found a new lease of life within Colony 22's walls. Gaius was less than thrilled to be assigned the duty of correctional officer, but apparently the only information the Database had on him outlined his work as a police officer, and it was decided for him. Not wanting to kick up a fuss, he has settled into it over time. It feels petty somehow; he isn’t challenged in the least, and it’s beginning to frustrate him. He misses the thrill and the challenge of his old job, and were it not for Mei Zhu seeming to blossom in the Colony, he would be considering leaving. His only solace is in training: at 6'3 and muscled out by years of training, he is fearsome in the rink. Many are surprised at the almost military precision of his combat technique, and there is even talk of adding AP Trainer to his title.

MGMT6002 Influencing and Making Decisions
MGMT6002 Influencing and Making Decisions
ASSESSMENT BRIEF Subject Code and Title MGMT6002 Influencing and Making Decisions Assessment Assignment One: Reflective Analysis Individual/Group Individual Length 3000 Word Limit Learning Outcomes · Select and evaluate the usefulness of a range of decision making tools and reflect on your decision making styles and contrast with other styles and determine the respective levels of rationality and
intuition utilised
Submission By 23:59 (SYD time) Friday of the end of Module 3 Weighting 50% Total Marks 50 marks
Context:
The first half of this subject focuses on the individual and the specific processes—cognitive or otherwise—that individuals engage in when faced with a decision to make. Your task in this first assessment is to reflect on those processes in the context of your own experience and in accounts found in wider reading, and to identify and critique the specific models and frameworks available to you as a decision-maker.
Instructions:
Construct a reflective analytical report, founded on solid research of decision-making methods, models, frameworks and taxonomies found both in the subject and in wider scholarly reading you undertake.
The report is to be limited to 3000 words, exclusive of formal document sections (i.e. title page, executive summary, table of contents, references list, appendices, etc.), citations, tables and graphs. Students should submit one file through Turnitin.
There are a number of forms the report could take. The exact form the report will depend on the additional research the student will undertake; students should aim for the demonstration of deep learning, founded on theory through thorough reading of scholarly literature, rather than on getting any aspect of the brief ‘right.’
Students should commence this assignment early, keep regular backups and ensure they submit the correct, final version. Students should use this brief as the instruction set for the assignment requirements. Additionally, the rubric below can be used to describe what
unacceptable, functional, proficient, advanced and exceptional assignments might look like according to the criteria in the leftmost column of each row.
As this is a Masters level subject, students are expected to engage with high-quality academic journal articles, using the Torrens University Library. Textbooks, Wikipedia and, in general, anything that can be obtained through an open Google search page are considered supplementary material, unbecoming of a postgraduate.
Learning Rubrics
There are numerous ways to interpret the assessment brief. This rubric should not be used as a prescription or tick-the-box list of requirements but as a description of an amalgam of several possible interpretations and the standards they might take. The assessment will be graded holistically, based on the criteria in the leftmost column. Your interpretation may not match the rubric exactly as you may extend the requirements, using your initiative to demonstrate your mastery of the subject matter. Additionally, you may demonstrate elements described in the Advanced column and still be graded ‘Functional’ for one or more of the criteria (the reverse trend is also possible). Higher performing submissions will depend on wider reading, rather than on the rubric verbatim.
Assessment Attributes Fail (Unacceptable) Pass (Functional) Credit (Proficient) Distinction (Advanced) High Distinction (Exceptional) Analysis (30%) The analysis is simplistic and does not tap into the richness of the situation. Demonstrates limited awareness of or minimally analyses.

Has the ability to assess an decision viability. Demonstrates innovation in the range of pertinent components of the brief and communicates a critical understanding. Interprets a range of frameworks for future decision-making. Has the ability to assess decision viability as well as possibilities for reorganisation, considering the
present situation.

Introduction sets the tone for the report, outlining objectives, assumptions and limitations. Conclusion rolls up arguments, providing useful, practical-based outtakes for the
reader.
Report is divided into headings, all exhibits are labelled and discussed, page numbers.
Conforms to spelling and grammar
conventions.
The report presentation is outstanding. It is professionally presented and could be considered consultant-grade quality. This will be used as a model
report.
