How a Relationship Coach Can Help You Find Love in Arizona
Finding love can be one of life’s most rewarding experiences, but it often comes with its share of challenges. In a state as diverse and vibrant as Arizona, with its bustling cities like Phoenix and Tucson, and its serene landscapes, navigating the dating scene can be both exciting and overwhelming. A relationship coach can provide essential support and guidance to help you find and nurture meaningful connections. This article explores how a relationship coach can assist you in finding love in Arizona, offering insights into the benefits of coaching and how it can transform your dating journey.
Understanding the Role of a Relationship Coach
A relationship coach is a professional who specializes in helping individuals improve their relationships, whether they are seeking to enhance their current relationship or find a new one. Unlike therapists who often focus on resolving deep-seated emotional issues, relationship coaches are more concerned with practical strategies, personal development, and actionable steps to achieve your relationship goals. They offer personalized advice and support tailored to your unique needs and circumstances.
Benefits of Working with a Relationship Coach in Arizona
1. Tailored Guidance for the Local Dating Scene
The Benefit: Arizona’s dating landscape is influenced by its diverse population and regional characteristics. A relationship coach familiar with the local scene can provide targeted advice and strategies that cater to these specific factors.
How It Helps:
Regional Insights: A coach with knowledge of Arizona’s cultural and social dynamics can offer recommendations on local dating hotspots, events, and activities that align with your interests and preferences.
Cultural Sensitivity: Understanding the cultural diversity in Arizona helps in finding matches who share your values and background, leading to more meaningful connections.
By receiving guidance tailored to the local context, you can navigate the Arizona dating scene more effectively and increase your chances of meeting compatible partners.
2. Developing Effective Dating Strategies
The Benefit: Creating an effective dating strategy involves more than just finding the right person—it also includes knowing how to approach dating in a way that aligns with your goals and values.
How It Helps:
Personalized Strategy: A relationship coach can help you develop a dating strategy that fits your lifestyle, preferences, and relationship goals. This may include advice on where to meet potential partners, how to approach them, and how to manage your dating life.
Online Dating Expertise: With the rise of online dating, a coach can assist in optimizing your online profile, crafting engaging messages, and navigating dating apps effectively.
An effective dating strategy tailored to your unique needs and goals can significantly enhance your chances of finding a compatible partner.
3. Building Confidence and Self-Awareness
The Benefit: Confidence and self-awareness are crucial for successful dating. They help you approach dating with a positive mindset and build healthy, fulfilling relationships.
How It Helps:
Self-Esteem Boost: A relationship coach can work with you to build self-esteem and confidence, helping you present your best self in dating scenarios.
Self-Awareness: Through coaching, you can gain a deeper understanding of your needs, desires, and relationship patterns. This self-awareness can help you make more informed and intentional dating choices.
By improving your confidence and self-awareness, you can approach dating with greater assurance and clarity, leading to more successful connections.
4. Improving Communication Skills
The Benefit: Effective communication is a cornerstone of successful relationships. A relationship coach can help you enhance your communication skills to foster better connections with potential partners.
How It Helps:
Conversation Techniques: A coach can provide practical tips on how to initiate and maintain engaging conversations, handle awkward situations, and express your needs and feelings clearly.
Conflict Resolution: Learning how to navigate disagreements and conflicts constructively is essential for building a strong relationship. A coach can offer strategies for managing conflicts in a healthy and productive manner.
Improved communication skills can lead to more meaningful interactions and a stronger foundation for building relationships.
5. Setting and Maintaining Healthy Boundaries
The Benefit: Setting and maintaining healthy boundaries is crucial for establishing respectful and balanced relationships. A relationship coach can guide you in defining and communicating your boundaries effectively.
How It Helps:
Boundary Definition: A coach can help you identify and articulate your personal boundaries, ensuring that you are clear about your needs and limits.
Boundary Communication: Learning how to communicate your boundaries assertively and respectfully helps in maintaining healthy relationship dynamics and avoiding misunderstandings.
By setting and maintaining healthy boundaries, you can create a more respectful and balanced dating experience.
6. Navigating Challenges and Overcoming Obstacles
The Benefit: Dating can come with its share of challenges and obstacles, including dealing with rejection, managing expectations, and overcoming fears. A relationship coach can provide support and strategies for navigating these difficulties.
How It Helps:
Resilience Building: A coach can help you build resilience and develop coping strategies to handle rejection and setbacks in the dating process.
Expectation Management: Managing expectations and staying grounded is important for a healthy dating experience. A coach can offer guidance on setting realistic goals and maintaining a positive outlook.
Navigating challenges with the support of a coach can help you stay focused and motivated in your pursuit of a fulfilling relationship.

As a Model I Got Stalked by a Porn Cam Girl Who Couldn’t Let Go of Her High School Ex Boyfriend in College and How I Dealt
So for those who don’t know, on top of modeling I was an elite springboard and platform diver, in the Olympic track. Technically I left modeling for sports after modeling got scary, but I still dabbled in the clean side of the industry.
I technically started being recruited by The University of Alabama by age 14 years old, well that was my first real trip to campus anyways.
I liked the University of Alabama, because their art program is located near Birmingham, which is an indie designer fashion hub of America. After watching Project Runway on binge growing up, I wanted to support the industry there.
However, as soon as I got to campus on my first or second night I was asked on the team who I would either make out with or hook up with before I knew any of the guys on the team, or girls if I were to go that way for a matter of fact. I was also coming off a myriad of injuries that were half attended to with doctors, after my dad left. My mother lied and said we didn’t have health insurance anymore.
So, I get to campus, and meet this guy Joseph James Pursley (DOB: 10/21/1994, causasion male). On the first day, I didn’t realize he was our head coaches son, because I was a diver and his father was a swimming coach. I told my teammates that I thought he was cute, they told me he was the head coaches son. Hearing how psychopathic our new head swim coach was from the rest of the team before showing up, I wrote him off.
To be fair, Joseph James Pursley does suffer from a myriad of drug and alcohol addictions. I’ve watched him pound a full bottle of wine in one sitting then run to the shower to barf. He would ask me to act out rape scenes with him, because it turned him on according to him. On spring break, I woke up from a daytime vacation nap to him passed out barfing in and breaking the rental home shower once. He uses these things called whippets to get high. He was the mens team Vyvanse supplier when he wasn’t even on scholarship to be on the team. He once punched a crack in his own car windshield as I gave him a sober ride home. He would openly tell me how much he wanted to die or join the military to get me to help him with his homework. He has a cocaine addiction. He once kicked a girl in a twister costumer to the floor on Halloween. And, he wouldn’t let me break up with him, ever. As hard as I tried.
By the end of this relationship I was waking up everyday in panic attacks, or ending the night with anxiety attacks over what JJ Pursley thought of himself while he used drugs. He would do cocaine and speak out of his head. He would else me into sex while he was on psychedelics and I was not. Police were getting called to his home and I would have to go over to try to help during my workday, not mine. Below is an image of what he did to my face. I asked him no repetitively 5 times before I was thrown into the asphalt concrete. Essentially, I was waking up everyday fighting for my own life or having an anxiety attack over what JJ was going to make me do in the night while I slept.
Anytime I talk to police about this situation I get light headed and almost pass out. My mother knew his father where she was from, so she does little to advocate for me at all.
However, I now have advocacy groups working to protect me in the state of Texas from JJ Pursley and everyone still connected to him. I’ve just never known how well these avenues work for kids frok.places like where I’m from.
Time and time again, the United States has shown that no one gives a fuck to help the little kids from the projects of Cincinatti and we do nothing to warrant it. I am hoping that this political shift brings that, if nothing else at all, for once, actually representing kids from the projects.
And what they actually have to fight through to survive and what their usually single parents have to do to get them out of it. One parent is always a hard addict and the other can never seem to do enough to get their own family resources. For me my mother was a HARD addict in the state of Kentucky for a LONG time. After the things I saw my mom do to herself, I don’t even understand how she is alive. I’m always pushing my mom to get clean, but fact of the matter is, she never stays clean. She will scream she hates drugs as she is abusing them behind closed doors. Diet pills, injectables, painkiller pills, alcohol, whatever she can get her hands on.
My mother has also been getting model sued for the greater portion of her adult life whenever she starts using again. Which seems to be anytime I leave the door to start life on my own. Then, I deal with the ramifications of my mom being an addict. I CANNOT LEAVE MY HOUSE IN AMERICA WITHOUT BEING ACCUSED OF BEING AN ADDICT BECAUSE OF MY MOTHER. AND. I. AM. SOBER.
No one thinks this is real, but when you get out of the projects, people try to attack you and your kids through their whole lives as you progress beyond it. Because there is a side of the country who thinks kids from the projects don’t deserve to get out of it.
Two weeks after I arrived at school, his father paired us in the same team building group. He seemed fairly normal this day as a person, but then again he was also sober this day to my knowledge as we were required to be as far as I knew. Then he began pursuing me at parties.
One night, when I was the sober driver for the team, he asked me to give him rides to pick up his friends because his cell phone minutes were apparently out at the time. I later learned that his parents had to put him on minutes because of his addiction to naked images of girls from his high school. He would tell me how guys in his high school would fill their phones up with nudes and then trade Sim cards so that everyone got a little bit of every girls nude images. So, his parents had to move him mid year of school from Arizona to Alabama.
He didn’t tell me it was this serious until after we started dating and his personal porn girl began attacking me directly. I am a girl who had never sent nudes at all by college.
I grew up primarily Hellenist as my religion, and this is something WE DO NOT DO within hellenism. Strictly, I was told our gods would be angered at me if I ever shot nude for a man in a porn sense or sent full porn type nudes to a man for his sexual attention unless it was my boyfriend or full time partner that I trusted to protect me.
He just told me that he had gotten into some trouble in high school, however he had gotten accepted by the coaches onto the team, so I figured he was trying to do better. I was never told to judge people by their past mistakes. However, in JJ Pursleys case, I wish I had.
We actually did become friends before we dated. We would actually spend sober platonic time together, but I also hung out with his roommates so I didn’t think he was a danger to me. In short, I wasn’t scared of a digital pimp.
The first time we “hooked up” we only really made out, and then the next day he told me he had a girlfriend that he hadn’t mentioned previously while getting to know me. After he told me,I told him u was sorry and made up an excuse to leave the situation. So, all was good and dandy. Then the party stalking began.
I coukd not attend a team party in the same room as JJ Pursley without him eventually finding himself standing directly behind me or three feet away from me trying to talk. If I would give him the time of day, he woukd follow me around the party like a lost dog. Then I started noticing how alcoholic he was. He would borrow my car to take his friends to smoke in it without me attending with them.
He would find ways to place himself in the same places as me. However, he was uninterested in leaving the dorm to try any of the clubs I had joined to try tonget acquainted to campus outside of athletics and the inter team hook up culture that was going on within my team.
I for some reason, forgot what level of model I was in college as I was trying ti focus on school and athletics for the four years. But, the team culture still creeped me out. I guess that was just the modeling in me still holding me close to my morals, I’m thankful I did it this way.
A few months into the semester my phone was thrown onto the floor out of my locker by a teammate or a call vibrated it out of my locker. Being a student athlete, I couldn’t afford a new one at the time, so JJ Pursmey gave me his old phone. This girl, Kelley Vivas, had probably sent 100-300 Streams of naked images of her rolling around naked on a workout ball alone in her room, not even working out.
It was literally quote comical to see. When i firstly the images I was like, “hmm what are you doing there???” The positions she was in in order to show her coochie angle to the camera seemed so uncomfortable. Isn’t a workout ball for working out? Zhe woukd be making like angry faces in the images trying to be sexy. It was really just something as they say.
I had never seen another girls nudes at this point, I was shocked.
By winter break, I was able to throw the phone away. Luckily the girl was over 18 according to JJ at the time he gave me the phone. I threw it out anyways, and she wanted to be there doing that. I’m pretty sure that’s still how she makes “her living.” So I did what I can to not get involved with it.
I actually never revenge porned the girl even though she had me non consensually revenge porned for simple dating her ex, when I never even sent her nudes. I was just like, “Holy shit, this is EXTREMELY embarrassing for this girl Kelley. I’m just gonna not and get rid of the phone.”
But then, even though I didn’t revenge porn her after being handed her nudes in the age of revenge porn, she would still attack me. Now her and all of her local friends have protections set up by me where I can call police if they try to get near me at all. JJ Pursley as well.
Luckily the Texas DAS office let me look up all their information and submit it in for protections. Then, a stalking advocacy group took over this portion of my life for me. So I do feel safer, now.
Just knowing I can pick up my phone and have them arrested if they even get near me, is a ton of solace after this situation. I thought I was I’m a literal living hell after seeing this girl naked and how much she wanted to attack me into oblivion for simply dating someone.
I would make him go on walks with me. We would go to the movies with groups of people. We would eat. He would take me to stores or shopping centers driving wise. But this girl just would not stop. I have no clue where her psychology us at after being a porn cam girl, which is why I had to report her to police.
It wa super creepy and I was honestly afraid she was getting ready to seek me out. She would acreenshot my social images of me on spring break during the second semester of college and send send to him as if she was going to use them for something. And now her whole life is a revolving lawsuit luckily for me. I don’t don’t think she was loved to finish out her college degree.
She has no job listed online, and she still tries to attack my character. I’m unsure why, she sees how bad JJ Pursleys life has gotten, how does she not realize that she is next. I was tying to help her by not forwarding her nudes to anyone. But I guess she was mad because she likes being a porn star? That’s fine with me, but you can’t attack non-porn stars for not wanting to join you.
I’m not sure if this girl was a part of a wider network, but she’s about to be a Jeffrey Epstein cronie by age 24. If she’s not already, I felt so bad reporting her, but the advocacy group and DAS office gladly took the information from me. That was a HUGE step forward in feeling safety in my own life again as a model.
Personally, I did make a plan to jump from the roof of my dormitory dormitory the ground after this girl began attacking me. I DO NOT FEEL THIS WAY ANYMORE, AT ALL. I have gotten multiple rounds of therapy for what Kelley Vivas and Joseph James Pursley did in my life as I was trying to start art school, my whole dream after being born in projects as a kid.
Luckily, after receiving therapy and getting better, I still have my modeling career and my art career. And I don’t struggle to get jobs in fashion or art still. My contracts have actually begun protecting my personal images and creative content for me online after how many times both women and men began stalking me with bad intentions. THIS WAS A MASSIVE BLESSING IN MY LIFE.
So immediately then after the attacks began, I knew I was going to have to report the situation eventually to either my contracts or police. I happen to have such a huge modeling contract established when I was a child that my family has it protected by a bank. Some models do have their contracts protected, if they are large enough at a young age. My family personally doesn’t speak about the intricacies of my specific contract for how large it got so young. I’ve started telling people small parts of it so they will leave me alone, but the rest of my contract is in a bank vault at what brands were willing to offer me at such a young age for my good nature and ability to always try to do the right thing.
My family, after my childhood, is extremely proud of me for this and they remind me daily, weekly. And monthly of how proud of me they are for my work in modeling alone.
It got so huge so fast for me that I had to hide inside of my home after a while. Eventually, the world got safer for highly talented kids and now I just get my big drops at home.
I do really miss going to a set, but shooting from home helps keep me safe from the types of men that used to be kept around modeling sets or would sneak their way onto set.
I also began looking up free scientific mental health resources online so that I wouldn’t fold in on my own mental health while moding, and could laugh about situations such as these.
Any time I catch myself doing something out of character for me and my career. I get therapy, get online resources, get free hot lines. Then I move on.
Again, growing up within the modeling industry, I was ALWAYS told by my dad’s model friends and the Cincinatti Ballet that I DID NOT NEED OR HAVE TO DO PORN TO SURVIVE. They very much advised against it with me, and any guy who has ever tried or threatened me into it, has no life now financially. I cannot thank these people enough for their guidance.
In business, JJ Pursley with a degree, was offered offered $22k base salary and them promptly almost lost his sales job, because no one would buy from him.before finishing my degree, I was offered a 40k base salary after freelancing through college, for a role where I didn’t even have to make sales at the job.
Now, I’m getting modelng contracts and job offers galore now that I have my degree completed out after going through this while trying to finish a collegiate degree out. I cannot say thank you enough to the people who kept a pulse on the EXTREMELY DANGEROUS situation for a model of my level and helped to pull me out of it once I could break free.
I am extremely proud of myself for surviving this, this felt like one of the biggest tests of my life so far. It was an extreme every day stressor while I attempted to complete my college courses, and I wasnt even attacking anyone.
Now, I can only laugh about it. Now, that I know larger organizations are working on the issue. I feel immensely safer now that this new wave of police and legislative system know this story.
But then again, JJ Pursely himself, began being followed by police before the relationship was even over. He has now been removed from SEC athletic football games, and almost arrested on the streets, by police.
So back to the story. At the time, JJ was telling me how much he hated being this way and how much he was trying to not be a porn and drug/alcohol addict verbally. He would tell me that he wanted to kill himself over this girls attachment to sending him nudes. So, I tried to help him in early work ways as best as I could. No one deserves to die over this. But I still haven’t heard of JJ Pursley and Kelley Vivas being forced into rehab, and JJ almost gets arrested on the street.
Yes, porn is not illegal, but trying to force a model into it is. I couldn’t tell JJ how big of a model I was.
During the relationship he woukd se the quality if my contracts and start to wonder about what was going on. But, I kept it a secret from him because of the lorn addiction attached to him and how much he would beg me to do it for him.
Kelley Vivas on the other hand, was a dancer I guess. I’m learning from this situation and others, that a lot of ballet or those types of dancer dancers actually engage in full porn type shooting or sex work outside of their jobs. Let me make this clear, not pole dancing, full porn and sugar daddy’s type stuff. I feel bad that they have to do this to get paid, but get a second legal job if dance doesn’t pay enough.
That is exactly what I do. Sometimes I get 3-5 legal jobs or contract position to not do porn or sex work when I’m not modeling. I know tons of other dancers who work 3-5other jobs on top LEGAL dance as well. I’m only approached by ballerinas for prostitution, still. Ballerinas mostly, approach me in public and try to tell me sex work is okay.
I left Ballet to model when the outsiders beginning targeting me shit started because I didn’t like it. My modeling contract is now protected by a bank vault vault yall can’t get it.
The Cincinatti Ballet is the only Ballet I trust. The Cincinatti Ballet and my contracts. The women and men at Cincinatti Ballet and within my personal modeling contracts told me I NEVER needed to do porn. They would only side hug me and tell me how beautiful I was. They were not upset at me for leaving dance after what men tried to do to me because of it. I would still dance for this Ballet troop if I could even meet their standards for human beings.
The dancers from the Cincinatti Ballet would pull me to the side as a little girl and show me the dance hall asking me if I even knew how beautiful I was as a very very young girl. And they gave me the confidence to never need to do porn or give into Sugar Daddy culture. All because a Ballet troop showed me how much they cared about children NOT having to do that.
I cannot thank the Cincinatti Ballet enough for dropping in on my practices as a child or finding me at their shows and walking me through the hall making me feel poised and confident enough to rise above it.
So after I initially was beginning to date JJ Pursley and trying to hear him out about how he wanted to change as a human himself, I thought I would give him a chance to change. He didn’t. And that’s okay, I hope he gets mental health help.
Once Joseph James Pursley decided that I was a better option than his ex, he began trying to break up with her. I guess fearing that she would lose her already set Porn career, she woukd threaten to kill herself to him as he broke up with her. She would literally threaten to kill herself for her high school boyfriend breaking up with her.
So then eventually JJ Purey did enough work to get her in the back burner, and he actually started making an effort to get out of the home with me. He woukd take me to my car appointments to get my car serviced at the time. He woukd take me in fast food dates. He woukd teach me how to skateboard again outside, etc. Once we got his cam girl ex out of the picture, we actually started having a pretty wholesome time with others. Then the attacks began.
She would call him telling him that she was going to hang up and kill herself if he broke up with her on the phone call. JJ Pursley would be on the phone crying and asking her to not kill herself over their break up. This part was actually really sad.
JJ would start hanging up and telling me that he wanted to die or join the military, because of what Kelley Vivas, the cam girl, was making him go through.
And she still stalks him. This part if the story I actually feel bad for him.
I don’t feel bad for his addictions. That’s the part I don’t feel bad for him for.
Let me preface, I sometimes do put filters over my social media images, because technically my face is trademarked or protected under brands. So if someone were to catfish trying to be me, or use my face and body as intercultural property without ler.ission from my contracts, they woukd get sued. So, at that time I would filter my photos in order to avoid becoming the subject of someone’s catfish over another.
I’m sure this girl would say, “well I’d didn’t know it was like that,” now. But she shouldn’t have to know it’s like that to not be a psychopath.
She began messaging JJ Purey how ugly I was. Calling out my filters on my photos. Reminding him that they had child names picked out. Eventually, JJ showed me it all. He would tell me how delusional this woman was and how wrong she was when he told me.
But at least he made sure to let me know some psychopathic girl was about to drive in from Arizona.
She eventually began requesting that JJ Pursley shoot revenge porn of me for their high school hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. Because I woukd refuse to send JJ any nudes as his girlfriend. I was actually very adimate against sending them to him.
Then JJ Pursley made the conscious decision to film me during a compromising moment via the app Snapchat, which is apparently trackable. I know my blog is being followed by my brands only now. So I do feel safer, now.
This girl just would not stop. We were dating 3 years later and age woukd still try to reach out to him. Luckily, I was able to follow and screenshot her and her friends socials until they got found out in order to protect myself.
These girls even sent their friend to stalk me on campus at my own university and laugh in my face… they stalked and abused a blind girl via social media.
Eventually, after these women got found out, they were forced to join community service organizations.
I have no clue if the girl, Kelley Vivas, was even allowed to finish out her collegiate degree via The University of Arizona, however she was supposed to be a medical professional. And she eas threatening suicide to a man over a break up when they didn’t even live in the same state anymore.
So my best advice if you are in a situation like this and scared to get out of it, fearing death, tell police. Tell therapists, tell your parents, tell your friends.
Tell anyone you can about how you tried to get away. Work hard or seemingly difficult busimess type or learning jobs to try to take over your mind.
It gets extremely stressful and downright CREEPY in your life if you let people do this to you or approach you with these intentions. I quit my sport and my dream major, left and separated myself and pretended it wasn’t happening unless to defend myself.
I was super lucky that my next major was also a dream to me and made my mind actually feel good again. But I did research it super hard before transferring into it, so I knew it would be that way. I am still EXTEEMELY THANKFUL for my school in letting me do this and then eveb reach out when my boyfriend became extremely abusive to me again tonhelo get me into therapy.
As women, this is all we can do, in my own opinion. When it comes to modeling at the level that I do, I choose to forget about it completely from the creepy people who try to know me after my modeling career hits again. Luckily, by starting to tell people when I weirded out or scared of the people who even try to follow me, I get better protection to do my job.
Thank you for stopping by!

The Importance of Setting Realistic Dating Goals for Arizona Singles
Navigating the dating world can be both exhilarating and challenging, particularly for singles in Arizona who are looking for meaningful connections. In a state known for its vibrant social scene and diverse communities, setting realistic dating goals is crucial for creating a successful and fulfilling dating experience. Whether you’re in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tucson, or any other part of Arizona, having clear and attainable goals can significantly enhance your dating journey. This article explores the importance of setting realistic dating goals, provides actionable tips for singles, and highlights how relationship coaching can support you in achieving your dating aspirations.
Why Setting Realistic Dating Goals Matters
1. Clarity and Focus
Importance: Setting realistic Relationship Coach for Singles Arizona provides clarity and focus in your dating life. It helps you understand what you truly want from a relationship and guides your actions and decisions accordingly.
Benefit: Clear goals enable you to prioritize your efforts and make intentional choices in the dating process. This focus reduces the likelihood of wasting time on relationships that do not align with your objectives.
Example: If your goal is to find a long-term partner who shares your values, setting this as a clear objective helps you avoid short-term flings that do not meet your relationship criteria.
2. Avoiding Disappointment
Importance: Unrealistic dating goals can lead to disappointment and frustration. By setting achievable goals, you set yourself up for more realistic expectations and manageable outcomes.
Benefit: Realistic goals help you navigate the dating scene with a balanced perspective, reducing the chances of experiencing disappointment when things do not go as planned.
Example: Setting a goal to go on a few dates each month, rather than expecting to meet your soulmate immediately, allows you to enjoy the process and avoid undue pressure.
3. Enhancing Self-Awareness
Importance: Setting and reflecting on dating goals enhances self-awareness. It encourages you to consider what you value in a partner and what you want from a relationship.
Benefit: Increased self-awareness helps you make more informed decisions about potential partners and improves your ability to communicate your needs and expectations clearly.
Example: By identifying that you value communication and honesty in a relationship, you can seek partners who align with these values and build stronger connections.
4. Building Confidence
Importance: Achieving realistic dating goals can build confidence and reinforce a positive outlook on your dating journey. It provides a sense of accomplishment and progress.
Benefit: Confidence in your dating efforts enhances your ability to engage with potential partners effectively and pursue relationships with a positive mindset.
Example: Successfully setting a goal to improve your dating profile or attend social events regularly can boost your confidence and make you feel more prepared for dating opportunities.
Tips for Setting Realistic Dating Goals
1. Define Your Relationship Priorities
Tip: Begin by defining what matters most to you in a relationship. Consider aspects such as values, lifestyle, and long-term goals.
How to Implement:
Identify Core Values: Reflect on your core values and what you want in a partner. Consider aspects such as family values, career goals, and personal interests.
Set Specific Objectives: Create specific objectives related to your relationship priorities, such as finding someone who shares similar life goals or interests.
Example: If family is important to you, a realistic goal might be to seek a partner who is open to having children and values family life.
2. Set Achievable Short-Term Goals
Tip: Break down your long-term relationship goals into smaller, achievable short-term goals. These interim objectives help you make steady progress in your dating journey.
How to Implement:
Monthly Goals: Set monthly goals related to your dating activities, such as attending social events or going on a certain number of dates.
Evaluate and Adjust: Regularly evaluate your progress and adjust your goals as needed based on your experiences and insights.
Example: A short-term goal could be to attend a local singles event or join a dating app to expand your dating opportunities.
3. Focus on Personal Growth
Tip: Incorporate personal growth into your dating goals. Working on yourself enhances your overall dating experience and prepares you for a healthier relationship.
How to Implement:
Self-Improvement Goals: Set goals related to personal development, such as improving communication skills, building self-confidence, or pursuing new interests.
Embrace Learning: Take opportunities to learn from your dating experiences and apply those lessons to improve your approach.
Example: If you recognize that communication is a challenge, a goal might be to take a communication workshop or practice active listening in conversations.
4. Communicate Your Goals Clearly
Tip: When dating, communicate your goals and expectations clearly to potential partners. Honest communication helps in finding someone who aligns with your objectives.
How to Implement:
Be Transparent: Share your relationship goals and values early in the dating process. This transparency helps in finding a compatible partner.
Ask Questions: Engage in conversations about your partner’s goals and values to ensure alignment and mutual understanding.
Example: On a first date, you might discuss your desire for a long-term relationship and ask about your date’s relationship aspirations to gauge compatibility.
5. Be Flexible and Open-Minded
Tip: While it’s important to have clear goals, being flexible and open-minded is equally crucial. Sometimes, the perfect partner may not meet every criterion but could still be a great match.
How to Implement:
Stay Open to Possibilities: Be open to meeting people who may not fit your exact criteria but possess qualities that complement your values.
Adapt to Change: Be willing to adjust your goals based on your experiences and evolving understanding of what you want in a relationship.
Example: If you meet someone who doesn’t share your exact hobbies but has other qualities that you value, consider exploring the relationship further.

Note
I’ve also had the same thought processes and let them eat me alive until I could barely function. While I’m still in my twenties, fighting off the feelings of regret for not pursuing relationships in college and putting too much focus on work and studies still eats at me almost every single day. Believe me, I get it.
First, you’re not going to find someone on Tumblr. This is an anonymous refuge for us all, but I do want to share a few thoughts:
1. Conservative women who enjoy anime exist. This is coming from one and I have about five more who follow me that I know of (and several others lurking in the most unexpected anime fandoms). That said, I can’t say I’ve watched one since 2016 or so and my interests have shifted significantly. I’m fully with Arizona in that expanding on your interests can be an extremely good thing. There are plenty of conservative women who enjoy nerdy things: my best guy friend just married one–she’s kind, beautiful, educated, and while she’s not the biggest anime fan, you’ll find few more well-versed in the world of Tolkien and with a variety of other fantasy novels and games. I think we tend to keep it out of our daily lives, and limit it more to places like Tumblr as we get older. I don’t feel the need to talk about it in my daily life–I’ll occasionally comment if one of my students is wearing some kind of fandom shirt, but that’s the extent of it.
2. Well-roundedness can be a very good thing, and it’ll by default make you have more in common with a larger quantity of people. I do still enjoy reblogging anime things, but I value nature, sports, fitness, and writing every bit as much, if not more. In fact, I’ve discovered I have to have them in my life to keep my depression at bay. If you focus too much on just “anime,” then you’re going to limit your options pretty severely. If you’re actively going out when you can and taking part in hobbies, that can help you meet and connect with others. Worst case scenario, you meet some interesting new people.
3. Thinking about compatibility in terms of one specific track of interests doesn’t always pan out. The man I’ve had the strongest connection with to date was a former baseball player who coached some golf clinics to kids on the weekends, and who worked in the accountant/banking side of something our offices had some minor overlap in. He was very forward and confident, and I’m more reserved. When I first saw him, my immediate thought was, “hot, cocky, asshole jock. Beautiful to look at, better to stay away.” That took about twenty-four hours to go out the window and we ended up getting to be friends and spending a lot of time together (both in and outside of work). When he got tired and his boss got too naggy, he’d sneak into my office and hide while talking with me. When I forgot to take breaks, he’d go out of his way to make sure I’d laugh and smile, and he’d get me up and walk with me somewhere. The only reason I have any clue what to get and how to navigate the local bar scene (something I never did in college) is because of him, and he was always honest about his own limits and never went too far. I was able to come out of my shell and get out of my comfort zone with him because of the fact he made sure I was safe and felt comfortable. I would’ve never known prior to getting to know him he also had a geeky side that he volunteered later on, and by that point, I was hardly shocked. All this to say, we still had made that connection without any of those interests beyond the time we were spending together coming to the table. Even if we didn’t end up together and he was teetering a bit with an old girlfriend (he wasn’t with her at the time, but ended up back with her later on/after a certain point when that was made clear), the point still stands.
There’s nothing wrong with having a shared interest in something particular being a top priority. However, compromise will always be inevitable in a relationship.
As for the app thing…well, they’re weird. They can at least give you a sense of what other singles are out there, but they’re not a true or complete picture of who someone is–or what their interests are–in any capacity.
Last but not least, a reality of conservative women that may sound harsh is that expectations for men are high. They aren’t always unrealistic, but when you talk about developing a skill that can help you to build your life, grow, and really get your own two feet under you, you need to lean into that and make it happen. The more you can do for yourself to establish stability in your own life, the better. Conservative women are by and large family-oriented people, and the notion of who could be a strong husband and father is always going to be at the back of their minds, even early on when everyone’s taking things slow. They don’t expect perfection, but they’re going to expect someone who can keep the house and family running if they’re ever temporarily not working and caring for a baby. She’ll want to know she can rely on and trust you, and anything you can do now to show her that’s your character will help you.
All this to say, take your time, look elsewhere besides Tinder (meaning in real life). Go to conventions or something in your city or ones near you. Go to e-sports tournaments. Try some different churches if that’s your jam. Take some art classes, or maybe dig in a little more when you go out with friends, and make an effort to get to know their friends.
The guys I’ve had feelings for over the years have been my cousin’s best friend (kiddie crush at the old age of thirteen, but still), a guy in the MMA club I joined in college, and a guy from the young professionals softball team I joined who I unexpectedly happened to work with (though indirectly) in my mid-twenties. It can really suck putting yourself out there, but I can honestly say that in my experience, it’s been worth it regardless.
Really and truly, I wish you the absolute best of luck.
Since we're talking about dating, I've got a question as well. Long story short, I lost over a decade due to mental health problems and now that I've got most of those under control, I'd like to have a girlfriend, and ideally make her my wife. My problem is that because of those aforementioned problems, I've never dated and now I'm almost 30. I'm working a minimum wage job and living at home. I'm trying to build up a skill set to get a better job, but I feel like time is running out for me. I want to be able to really get to know someone before marrying her and having kids, and I'd like to be able to enjoy some time with her before getting serious. However, everyone around my age are either already mothers or are looking to marry asap. I'd also like to find someone who shares my passions and politics, but it seems like everyone who likes nerdy shit like video games and anime is a leftist or has kids, while conservative women have no interest in those things. I don't think I'm a terrible looking guy but I've gotten almost no matches on tinder despite trying for over two years, and no matches on okcupid. My backup plan of finding love on Tumblr isn't going well either, haha. Is it unrealistic to look for someone who shares those things in common with me? Am I being too picky? And how do I find women like that?
Ok, first of all. You didn't lose a decade. You're not behind. And you're not running out of time. You're moving at your own pace and there is nothing wrong with that. It's not a race and there's no deadline. To answer the first question, no I don't think it's unrealistic at all. But to answer the second question, maybe? I guess my question would be, what do you consider a dealbreaker? If it's that she doesn't want kids, but you do, then by all means, continue to be picky. But if it's that she's into different nerdy stuff than you, like maybe she's into Star Trek instead of anime, I'd probably give that a shot. Who knows? Maybe you can introduce each other to something new and fun you'll both enjoy sharing with each other. At the end of the day, I don't personally believe there's such a thing as a perfect soulmate just waiting for any of us. I think there are people in this world who we just naturally click with a little better than others, but it's up to us to figure out how to make it work. And I think too many people throw away something with potential because it's not perfect from the start. As for where to find that... buddy, I wish I knew. I'm not having much luck with that either.

A 2019 Browns timeline, from playoff hype to train wreck
Baker Mayfield and Odell Beckham Jr. haven’t lived up to their lofty expectations.
The Browns couldn’t handle the weight of expectation.
The Cleveland Browns haven’t been to the playoffs since 2002. They will be the only team to finish the entire 2010s decade without a single winning season. It really shouldn’t be surprising that a team defined by ineptitude had a rough season.
But 2019 was supposed to be different.
The Browns were a Super Bowl favorite. After trading for three-time Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr., Cleveland had 14-1 odds to win its first ever Lombardi Trophy. Only four teams — the Patriots, Chiefs, Saints, and Rams — were given a better chance by oddsmakers. Bets on the Browns poured in.
Those expectations turned out to be too a heavy burden for the Browns to bear. First-year head coach Freddie Kitchens has struggled to deal with the pressure that comes with a talented roster. Browns players haven’t done well handling the frustration that comes with not stringing together wins.
How did all go wrong?
Cleveland’s 2019 season has been a slow-moving train wreck that keeps getting worse as the calendar approaches its end. Here’s all the dysfunction of the Browns in 2019, with the latest drama right at the top:
Dec. 18: Beckham and Landry deny reports that they’ve asked to be rescued
There have been reports of Beckham telling multiple teams to “come get him” out of Cleveland. According to NFL Network reporter Mike Silver, the problem runs much deeper than just one player.
More fallout from the Jarvis Landry tirade during the Browns-Cardinals game: I'm told by two sources that before the game ended, 'multiple' Browns players yelled at the Arizona sideline to 'come get me'--asking to come play for the Cardinals. Landry, I'm told, was one of them.
— Michael Silver (@MikeSilver) December 16, 2019
The Arizona Cardinals are a four-win team in last place in the NFC West. It says a lot if multiple Browns players would rather play there instead of Cleveland.
Jarvis Landry disputed the report, though.
#Browns WR Jarvis Landry vehemently denied NFL Network report that stated he told #AZCardinals sideline “come get me.” Landry said he would never do that and the accusation bothers him.
— Nate Ulrich (@ByNateUlrich) December 18, 2019
Beckham also pushed back against talks of him wanting out. He told reporters he plans on being a member of the Browns for the foreseeable future.
Odell Beckham Jr. on the future: “I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be here.” Said “it’s too special” and he wants to see things through with the Browns.
— PatMcManamon (@PatMcManamon) December 18, 2019
Beckham signed a five-year, $90 million contract extension with the Giants, but played just one season under that deal before he was traded to the Browns. Now Cleveland has Beckham under contract until after the 2023 season. The Browns can keep Beckham in Cleveland for several years, whether he actually wants to be there or not.
Dec. 15: Landry and Kitchens hash it out in a sideline spat
The tirade that sparked rumors of Landry wanting out came during the Browns’ 38-24 loss to the Cardinals. The receiver was seen having a not-so-friendly conversation with Kitchens on the sideline.
#Browns Jarvis Landry voicing some...umm...frustration with Freddie Kitchens. pic.twitter.com/tFtEkHDFyC
— Jon Doss (@JonDoss) December 15, 2019
It doesn’t take an expert lip reader to determine Landry wasn’t telling Kitchens he’s doing a great job. Landry later said he “asked for the ball to try to get involved in the game to help.”
Hours before that costly Week 15 loss, NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport said Kitchens’ job is probably safe:
But as of right now, barring a horrific collapse or circumstance to end the season, it appears the Browns will be moving forward with Kitchens.
The Browns’ playoff hopes were probably toast, regardless. A loss to the Cardinals pushed Cleveland into need-a-miracle territory. It remains to see if that counts as “a horrific collapse or circumstance.”
Dec. 11: Rashard Higgins laughs off Kitchens keeping him off the field
Kitchens defended the lack of snaps for Rashard Higgins, by telling reporters that the Browns receiver didn’t give the team its best chance to win.
#Browns HC Freddie Kitchens on limited snaps for WR Rashard Higgins this past week: "We try to play the players that give us the best chance to win each and every week...and that's strictly a week-to-week thing."
— Keith Britton (@KeithBritton86) December 11, 2019
Higgins has just four receptions on the year after breaking out as a reliable target for Baker Mayfield in 2018. He finished that season with 572 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Higgins seemingly responded to Kitchens’ comments with a tweet later that day.
— Wood (@CALLME_WOOD) December 11, 2019
Higgins is due to become a free agent after the 2019 season.
Dec. 8: A report says Beckham is trying to get traded
Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported that Beckham has made it known he wants out of Cleveland.
Does Odell Beckham Jr. really want out of Cleveland? @JayGlazer has the latest: pic.twitter.com/5XEDYj6Iba
— FOX Sports: NFL (@NFLonFOX) December 8, 2019
“Odell Beckham has actually told other players and coaches before games and during games ‘Hey, come get me, come get me,’” Glazer says. “I don’t see that relationship ending well for them after this year.”
That report came two days after Beckham insisted on Twitter that he isn’t looking to get out Cleveland.
Ok ... I NEVER said I was not happy in Cleveland, just like everyone else I’m hopeful for better results. Period. Next story plzz ...
— Odell Beckham Jr (@obj) December 6, 2019
Rapoport reported that Beckham has been playing through a sports hernia that will require offseason surgery to repair. Mayfield told reporters that the injury “wasn’t handled right.” He immediately backtracked from that comments and tweeted that he didn’t mean to throw the team’s medical staff under the bus.
Nov. 30: A starting safety is mysteriously held out for a key game
Browns safety Damarious Randall was held out of a pivotal divisional game against the Steelers due to what was called “a coaching decision.” It was because of “something that happened during the week,” according to Cleveland.com.
Steelers rookie quarterback Devlin Hodges completed only 14 passes, but racked up 212 yards against the thin Browns secondary in a 20-13 win. Cleveland had a chance to climb back to .500 and deal Pittsburgh a devastating blow. Instead, it put the Steelers in a good position to land a spot in the postseason.
Nov. 15: Myles Garrett gets an indefinite suspension for an ugly fight
The Browns’ 2019 season has been defined by a lack of discipline.
The culmination of that problem was a fight in the final seconds of a 21-7 win for the Browns over the Steelers. More specifically, it was Cleveland’s star pass rusher Myles Garrett ripping off the helmet of Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph and bashing him over the head with it.
This is all ugly pic.twitter.com/9WQzcjZCCj
— CJ Fogler (@cjzero) November 15, 2019
Garrett claimed Rudolph used a racial slur, but the NFL said it found no evidence of that claim. Rudolph received a sizable fine, Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi was suspended one game, and Steelers offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey was suspended three games.
Garrett unsurprisingly received the worst punishment, an indefinite suspension that runs through the remainder of the 2019 season and potentially beyond. He’ll have to apply for reinstatement during the offseason.
Oct. 7: Baker Mayfield finishes a MNF loss with a 13.4 passer rating
Mayfield finished a 31-3 loss to the 49ers watching from the sideline. In a Monday Night Football showcase, he completed just 8 of 22 passes for 100 yards with two interceptions. Mayfield was pulled with just over five minutes left and the loss dropped the Browns to 2-3.
He was also sacked four times and fumbled twice behind a porous offensive line.
Sept. 8: Browns OT Greg Robinson is ejected for a dangerous kick
The Browns’ season started with dark clouds immediately. The Titans ran away with a 43-13 blowout win and Cleveland’s starting left tackle, Greg Robinson, was ejected for kicking safety Kenny Vaccaro in the face.
welp, the Browns will have to play the second half without their starting left tackle. Greg Robinson ejected for kicking Kenny Vaccaro right in the face pic.twitter.com/y324hpluQ7
— Christian D'Andrea (@TrainIsland) September 8, 2019
Robinson wasn’t suspended for the kick, but he struggled to protect Mayfield’s blindside all season.
June 4: Baker Mayfield calls out Duke Johnson for wanting out of Cleveland
Browns running back Duke Johnson showed up for offseason activities, but made it clear that he hoped for a trade out of Cleveland.
Duke Johnson Jr. explains his trade request & why he doesn’t feel wanted by #Browns anymore pic.twitter.com/EyRQ5MNiaY
— Daryl Ruiter (@RuiterWrongFAN) June 4, 2019
That’s not an especially unique situation. Johnson was one of a handful of players across the NFL that held out or voiced displeasure with their current team and/or contract. It also wasn’t too surprising that Kitchens put his foot down and said Johnson was going to be part of the Browns offense, whether he likes it or not.
However, it did raise eyebrows when Mayfield spoke out against his teammate.
#Browns Baker Mayfield on Duke wanting to be traded: “You’re either on this train or your not”
— Mary Kay Cabot (@MaryKayCabot) June 4, 2019
That comment reportedly didn’t sit well with everyone in the locker room.
As I just stated on @nflnetwork: According to multiple sources, several veteran Browns players approached Baker Mayfield in the locker room after the young QB's critical comments about RB Duke Johnson to register their displeasure, and they hashed out their differences.
— Michael Silver (@MikeSilver) June 13, 2019
The situation was smoothed out for good when Johnson was traded to the Texans in August.
Bad luck has played a factor in the Browns’ subpar season too. Beckham hasn’t been 100 percent for most of, if not all of, the season. Other significant injuries include ones that have kept players like Christian Kirksey, David Njoku, Olivier Vernon, and Morgan Burnett out of action.
But the frustrating year will likely be remembered for the in-fighting and drama that continued to bubble up as the season went on. That cost the Browns a promising season and could also cost Kitchens his job.

15 Ways to Start a Conversation With a Guy Over Text (+ 4 Ways NOT to)
So you swiped right on a dating app and matched up with a guy. Maybe you’re on Bumble, where the ladies have to start the conversation. Or you want to text a man you met through a friend. Whatever the situation, now you want to know how to start a conversation with a guy over text.
What You Need to Know About How to Start a Conversation with a Guy Over Text
youtube
If you’re getting back into dating after a long break, you might be shocked at how important texting has become in dating. You’re much more likely to text someone you’re seeing than talk to him on the phone, at least early on, so be ready for that shift from the way things were the last time you dated. (Remember waiting by that LANDLINE for his call?!)
Even if you consider yourself fairly savvy at texting your girlfriends (you’re known as the GIF user in your group), realize that you still need to know how to start a conversation with a guy over text…and keep his attention, because it’s a bit different from how you’d interact with your friends.
Let’s break down your texting into three sections:
Getting the party started
Keeping the conversation flowing
Letting him know you’re into him
That first text is so important. Whether you’re too impatient (or confident) to wait for him to text you first, or whether you have his number and he doesn’t have yours, you’re up to bat, so you want to make sure your text is engaging, witty, and intriguing so that he’ll text you back.
Here are a few tips to ensure that he eagerly responds to that first text you send.
1. Do More Than Say “Hey.”
You’re a smart lady, so why would you waste valuable texting real estate with a totally dumb starting line?
Nearly 30% of 18-24-year-olds are totally cool with “hey” as an intro text…but you’re not in that demographic, are you? Go with something that requires a bit more intellect and requires a response from him.
2. Get Inspiration from His Dating Profile.
If you’re on a dating site, read his profile and find something you can ask a question about (questions require an answer and keep the conversation going!).
You might see a photo of him at the top of a mountain:
“Looks like you’re into hiking like me! What’s your favorite trail?”
Or his profile might say he speaks four languages:
“4 languages, huh? Parlez-vous français? Parli italiano?”
Some dating sites have icebreakers, like having the user list two truths and a lie:
“I’m going to guess that your lie is…rescuing a baby tiger from the clutches of a bear. Am I right?!”
3. Text Only When You Have Time to Respond.
Ping! You get a notification on your phone that you’ve matched with a man. You’re eager to get the conversation started…but don’t do it unless you can instantly reply and hold a conversation should he respond immediately.
You’re more likely to launch a text conversation if you respond promptly to his reply…otherwise, he might lose interest and find another woman to text.
4. Make Him Laugh.
If you can pull off funny, it’s a great strategy to start a conversation with a guy over text.
“OMG! I was typing to ask if this was the only paid dating site you were on and autocorrect made it ‘pain dating site!’ Oh my! I don’t think it’s that kind of site…do you? 😨“
5. Time Your Text.
Realize that you might, without meaning to, communicate desperation with your text depending on what time you send it. Texting for the first time on a Friday evening at 8 pm might tell him that you’re a bit desperate for a date.
Texting first thing in the morning can be overwhelming too…or even wake the guy up. Aim for after work, maybe around 6 on a weekday, for the best shot of getting a reply.
Once You Get Rolling
Now that he’s responded and you’re texting back and forth, how can you keep the conversation going?
6. Focus on Getting to Know Him.
Now is the time to ask questions so you can determine whether this guy is a good fit and potential suitor. But…don’t bombard him with questions! Keep a healthy mix of questions and comments.
Try to give him a chance to ask you questions in return. While there doesn’t have to be a 1:1 ratio of text questions (women tend to be more curious than men, I’ve found), back off if you’ve asked several in a row without him having a chance to ask his own.
7. Pay Attention to Whether He Asks Questions.
If he doesn’t ask many questions, he’s not interested.
It’s a red flag if you’re the only one who’s curious and asking questions. One way to make him realize that you want to feel like he’s trying to get to know you is:
“Sorry for all the questions! I’m just naturally curious. It’s your turn to ask a few!”
If he doesn’t bite after that, he probably isn’t interested enough to put any effort into getting to know you. Move on.
8. Watch That Tone.
The thing about text messages is that sometimes they can be misinterpreted. What might have been a sarcastic and witty comment in your head could come out snarky and mean.
Always read your texts before you send them, and ask yourself whether someone who didn’t know you well might misunderstand your intention. If there’s even a shadow of a doubt, rewrite the text.
9. Spell Words Out.
U r nt a teen. Dn’t txt lyk 1.
Grownups spell words out. For Pete’s sake, you’ve got “voice to text”, so how lazy can you be?
Realize that if you use abbreviated words or even bad grammar or punctuation, you might be judged by the man you’re texting: 75% of men judge bad grammar.
How to Show Interest
Let him know you’re into him!
Once you realize that you’re hitting it off, make sure you let him know that you’re interested in your texts so you can get that first date scheduled.
Because you’re interacting via text, it can be harder to communicate interest than it would be in person, so use these tips to get it right.
10. Call Him By His Name.
It’s subtle, but calling this guy by his name in the text (or later, by phone or in person), communicates your interest.
You can also call him endearing terms like:
Cutie
Honey
Hotstuff
11. Give Him Your Number.
If you’ve been texting through a dating app, step up your game and give him your phone number. This tells him that you like him enough to move to the next step in this game. A date won’t be far behind.
12. Ask Questions That Show Interest.
Everyone feels good when someone shows interest in what they do and care about! If he told you yesterday that he was going to watch the game, ask who won.
Ask what he likes about his job.
Ask what he’d do if money were no issue.
Ask how his work presentation went.
Ask how his friend that broke his arm is doing.
Essentially, you want to show that you’re paying attention to what he’s saying and that you care enough to retain that information.
13. Text Him Throughout the Day.
Think about how you feel when a man texts you to wish you good morning each day, or makes a point to say “good night” via text.
It feels good, right?
So do the same to let this man know that you’re thinking of him.
Here’s the only caveat: stop doing it if he’s not reciprocating. If you look at your text chain and see that it’s been mainly you popping in to say hi, back off. If the texts aren’t more back-and-forth, he may not be interested.
14. Flirt a Little.
One surefire way to let a man know that you’re into him is to flirt. There’s no need to go overboard, but make sure he knows you want more than just being friends.
You could send him a selfie where you’ve got a sexy smile…
…or ask him for a photo…
…if you’ve gone out, you could tell him you can’t wait to see him again…
It may not come naturally at first, but with a little practice (give my Flirting Workshop a try), it’ll become second nature.
15. Use Emojis.
Emojis aren’t just for teenagers! A carefully-chosen one can express more than words.
😚 😘
These kissing emojis makes it clear that you’re interested!

If he compliments you, you can always blush!
😍
If he says something that makes you even more gaga about him, use this one.
How NOT to Start a Conversation with a Guy Over Text
Now that we’ve covered how to start a conversation with a guy over text, as well as how to express your interest in him, let’s cover a few no-nos in texting.
Bombard Him with One Text After Another.
via GIPHY
Unless you want him to ghost you, let him respond before you send another text. It will require patience, but trust me on this.
There’s a woman in Arizona who sent a man 159,000 texts (and stalked him) after just one date! Don’t be that woman!
Pout if He Doesn’t Respond Immediately.
Clearly something is wrong if he doesn’t respond within a few seconds. Right?
Wrong.
You may be wrapped up in the fantasy of this guy doing nothing but thinking about you all day, but in reality he’s probably working, running errands, sleeping…or just not available. Don’t assume the worst. Again, have a little patience.
Go Too Deep Too Soon.
Work, hobbies, interests are all acceptable topics for early texts before you’ve gone out. Save the relationship history, politics, and religion for later.
Signs You Should Move On
A lot of women I’ve coached get frustrated that they’re not better at reading the signs that a man isn’t interested. It can be challenging to watch for those cues, particularly if you haven’t been single that long.
Let me give you a few signs to look out for.
It’s All Text and No Movement Forward.
Texting is great, but if you’re doing it for a week or more, you risk turning into pen pals. Sure, some guys are slower than others, but if he’s not asking about your schedule or whether you have plans for the weekend, he might not want to meet.
You can, of course, take initiative and ask him out. That way you can at least see if he’s interested.
He Seems Permanently Unavailable.
If he can’t or won’t meet, he might be catfishing you.
If this guy travels a lot or is out of town for an indefinite period of time, you’ve got to first ask yourself why he’s on a dating app. If he can’t meet, what’s the point?
Also, realize that a man who is this unavailable may also be catfishing you. That’s not necessarily the case, but be aware that some men (and women) create fake profiles with the objective of messing with your head or just because they’re bored.
He’s Taking the Conversation Sexual Too Fast.
You’re not a prude, but jeez, you’d like to meet a man before sexting. If this guy is making you uncomfortable, block him. There’s no reason why a man should make sexual overtones too soon, especially if you’re not reciprocating.
Conclusion:
Even if this doesn’t end up being your Prince Charming, you at least got practice on how to start a conversation with a guy over text!
It’s like any skill: the more you do it, the better you get at it. Just keep it light and have fun with it.
And if things do work out, you’ve successfully learned how to use another communication channel that maybe you didn’t use when you were last single decades ago. Texting can be a great asset in a relationship!

Revelation Real Estate: An Inspired Approach to Success
Angela and Chuck Fazio, Revelation Real Estate
Chuck and Angela Fazio are best friends, husband and wife, and co-owners of a dynamic and fast-growing Arizona real estate company ranked by the Wall Street Journal as one of the “Top 10 Single-Office Brokerages in the Nation.” With Chuck’s marketing background and Angela as designated broker, Revelation Real Estate has become the top-producing single-office brokerage in the East Valley marketplace, growing from a team of 15 agents in 2005 to more than 800 agents currently on track to close $2 billion in sales this year.
In this exclusive interview, the Fazios discuss their passion for putting agents first, the Christian foundation that inspires them and their unique and multi-faceted approach to building a successful business.
Barbara Pronin: Can you tell us a bit about your personal backgrounds and how you came to lead Revelation Real Estate? Chuck Fazio: I’m originally from New York. I did a lot of things in my years back East—even ran a nightclub for a while—but in 1998, I moved to Arizona in search of a better life. It was the best thing that ever happened to me, because that’s when I first went into real estate, and that’s when I met Angela.
Angela Fazio: I started in Arizona real estate in 2001, and Chuck and I partnered very soon after we met—but we had a hard time getting started. We would pray about it all the time, and soon everything seemed to open up for us. In 2002, we closed nearly $12 million in business, and we continued to increase sales: $17.5 million in 2003, $22 million in 2004, and $40 million in 2005. That year, our team, not including us, closed $89 million. At the end of that year, we started Revelation Real Estate—a name that truly reflects our faith—and we grew right through the recession years.
Revelation Real Estate’s office—The Forum—dominates the Valley.
More than just a home for the brokerage, The Forum offers areas for work and play.
BP: Your office building in Chandler houses more than 800 agents—plus all your support staff. Tell us a little about that. CF: We have just one office building, which is a huge complex that dominates the Valley. It’s called The Forum. There are 21,000 square feet inside, as well as a 7,000-square-foot, resort-like patio area. We have a full-service cafe with a chef on staff that’s open to the public. In fact, we have areas that can be rented out for special events—and our on-staff event planner schedules live concerts, mystery dinners and other entertainment free of charge, where our agents can spend some quality time meeting, greeting and building relationships with their clients.
AF: The Forum not only houses Revelation Real Estate, event space and the bar/cafe, but also houses our real estate school, as well as six conference rooms and sound-proof “prospecting rooms” where agents can duck in to make or take important calls. We even have a game room equipped with a pool table and arcade games.
BP: How did you develop this very creative approach to your business? AF: By the grace of God, the strength of our own relationship and a strong commitment to enriching the lives and the mindset of our agents. We have six children ourselves, so we understand the importance of family and how vital it is to balance your work with your home life. We put a lot of time, money and effort into seeing that our agents are happy and fulfilled, because happy agents tend to be the most productive.
CF: We also have a great team—a staff of 20 or more who are dedicated to the success of our agents. From Tracey Couture, our CEO, and Catherine Shaeffer, our managing broker, to our amazing corps of training, marketing and agent support leaders, this is a team like no other. Jennifer Aldridge, our office manager extraordinaire, helps keep everything going. In all, caring is the secret sauce that creates our amazing culture—which, as Angela said, helps make our agents the very best in the business.
BP: Your firm has certainly enjoyed a spectacular growth rate. Tell us a bit about your recruiting strategy and your agent retention rate. CF: We’re very picky, because we provide such a high level of value to our agents, but our recruiting team leader, Kristen Cantrell, is one of the best in the business. Some referrals come from agents already on board—and many agents in the region seek us out because they’re drawn to our business model.
AF: That’s why we continue to grow quickly—in just the last two years, for example, from 500 to about 800 agents. Many of our agents and staff have been with us for a long time. Chuck and I have an intensity that many people don’t have, and we apply that intensity to enriching the lives of our agents. They know the deep caring we have for them.
BP: What’s your approach to training and coaching? CF: We have our own real estate school, so we know our agents are getting a good start. And we’re very hands-on and personal in our training and coaching. We want our agents to reach the very top of the mountain.
AF: I used to be a teacher, so training is important to me. New agents can choose our mentorship program that lasts a year. Experienced agents receive ongoing training and coaching on a variety of levels for as long as they’re with us. It’s critical for us, and I’m personally gratified when an agent tells us, “I’ve learned more in this one class or this one training program than I’ve learned in my whole career.”
BP: What about your marketing strategies? How are you connecting with consumers? CF: Primarily through social media, and through our own very personal approach to business. We have media resource rooms in our building, and a staff to help agents prepare videos, provide awesome presentations and other necessary marketing visuals. We also have staff working our agents’ databases on their behalf, keeping in touch, sending out videos and providing a calendar of social events designed to keep agents connected to customers. Nicole Shambre and Sheridan Caprisecca lead in those areas.
BP: How do you stay ahead of the curve on technology? AF: We ask the young people! No, really. Our daughter, Danielle Neilson, is a whiz at social media and works as our resident social media guru. She creates and manages the company brand and media specifically for the purpose of business development.
CF: Social media and technology aside, we encourage our agents to maintain meaningful connections, especially with past and present clients. We hold what we call “mindset meetings” every Monday morning—a 45-minute time designed to prepare agents to meet the challenge of the week ahead. Agents don’t have to be there in person—maybe 30 to 40 agents are there on any given Monday—but hundreds watch each week on Facebook. We focus on mindset, and on the realization that we aren’t here just to sell real estate, but to connect with people in meaningful ways. We even wrote a book to help our agents out. It’s called “Marketing Your Real Estate Career.”
BP: How would you describe the state of your market? What are your challenges and opportunities? AF: In certain price ranges, there’s still a shortage of inventory, which makes for a hot market—and we also have a very strong rental market. In all, the business environment is good, and unemployment is low. The opportunities are really unlimited. It’s a great time to be selling real estate.
CF: Our biggest challenge is time—time to manage our complex business lives and make time for our kids and our grandbaby. But we’re builders and creators and motivators by nature. We’re dedicated to inspiring more agents to be happy and successful, because they, in turn, inspire the success and well-being of the company.
Chuck and Angela Fazio have big plans for the future as they look to widen their circle of customers and friends.
BP: What’s on deck for the future of the firm? CF: We’re excited about the future. Of course, we will continue to grow Revelation here in the Valley, but God has called on me to do more. I know I can positively affect many more agents. Revelation isn’t duplicatable, but I have big plans to attract a team of talent nationwide and invest into their business with the same intensity as I do here locally. That’s why I moved my license to eXp Realty. Part of the plan is to share my expertise with anyone who wants to excel in business and could benefit from my scripturally-based coaching and training.
AF: Our company culture is based on scripture—specifically Proverbs 27:17, which says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” We see this as the next stage of our own development, and, we hope, as an opportunity to widen our circle of customers and friends.

-
We're having a good time here, aren't we? Now what is one of the things that I have said and what is the the quote that is on the coffee cup, “You will not find inspiration behind a desk. You have to seek it out”. You have to get up go out and find your inspiration, now once you have inspiration, yes, you can sit at a desk at a laptop or a typewriter or a drawing board or whatever and you can create.
-
That's true. You can create at a desk, but you don't find inspiration there. That's not where you find inspiration, and when I need inspiration for show topics, so that I can come to you five days a week and speak into this microphone, I get up and I go out. Sometimes I just go out to the field, sometimes I take a little trip, you know, and recently I took a trip.
-
I was at I went drove down to Las Vegas, I drove through Utah, which is gorgeous. Just a beautiful state, drove through the top corner of Arizona through an area called the Virgin River Gorge. That's about 30 miles of desert Gorge that you go through to get into Nevada, if you've never been there, it's beautiful. I highly recommend that you down there and and look at the-, especially if you're in the East.
-
If you are east of the Mississippi River, and you've never been in the mountainous west of the United States of America, you need to make a point, you need to make a plan to do that. Maybe not this year, or next year, I don't know but get out to the west and see the mountains. The deserts, the Gorges, the vistas and the boots and all of that stuff.
-
You want to see you want to take it in for yourself. So that's what I did, I drove down to Las Vegas through, Utah and Arizona and Nevada, obviously and while I was down there I trained because you know, I am on a weight training program, and I needed to train while I was there. I didn't want to skip, so I went to an Olympic barbell training gym, it's called Average Broz.
-
If any of you are find yourself in Las Vegas, and you are on a weight lifting or. You know a barbell training program and you're looking for a place that will have everything you need to continue. I would suggest Average Broz. It's all the way down on Las Vegas Blvd S. It's way, way south of what they, you know, the the Vegas Strip, but it's not hard to find, and they're very accommodating. Super nice people. So there I am training on the road now, obviously, I have my own personal setup here in Saratoga, where I live.
-
I have my own barbell, my own rack, my own weights, my own bench, and I am very comfortable using all of my own gear. You know and, as silly as it may sound, but once you've used your bar or bars and your rack and your gear, you become very very comfortable with it. It's like, you know comfortable pair of boots or a comfortable pair of gloves.
-
It just feels right, and that's good, right? Then you go on the road and you go to somebody else's pond, you leave your comfortable pond, and you go into someone else's pond, and you have to train in a different gym. So there you are, in that new gym and think you know, the weights aren't in the same place as yours are, or they're not set up the same way as yours are, or yours are English pounds, and there's our metric, because that's how Olympic people train is with freaking metric plates.
-
I don't know why it's just I dunno why, it's just because that's the world that we live in. But the bars are different, they feel different, you know the racks that you use are different, and it's uncomfortable. Not necessarily really physically uncomfortable, but it's like illogically uncomfortable to go into a new place, a different place, and do what you need to do. But that's a good thing, it is.
-
That's a good thing, I'm going to tell you why. I was standing in their rack, in their squat rack with their bar and their weights, which are different than mine. They make different noise and they feel a little bit different and so forth, and I was focusing and I found that because I was in a different setting, because I was not in my own comfortable pond, that I was forcing myself to very, very deliberately do everything right. I was thinking of all of the advice that my coaches had given me, I was thinking how to perform the move, how to start it, how to breathe, how to finish all of that.
-
I was focusing very, very intensely because when you're in a foreign element, you need to find something you need to find comfortable ground, and the comfortable ground when you're in a foreign gym, when you're training on the road, used to go back to your programming, your coaching, the way you're supposed to do things, and do them as perfectly as possible.
-
I'm not, I'm not having any illusions that I did absolute perfect squats, or absolute perfect presses or deadlifts or whatever. But I focused intently, and my mental focus was on doing every single thing, right and that's what I'm going to, you know, I'm going to recommend that to you. Don't be afraid, to leave your comfortable Pond.
-
Everybody gets in their own Pond, their own comfort zone, and that's cool. I mean, it's part of being a human. That's what we do, we find a comfortable place and we stay in that comfortable place, and that's how we we survive as humans, but every once in awhile, you need to deliberately and purposefully Shake It Up.
-
Get out of your comfort zone, whether-, and you know it you may not barbell training. You may not strength train, and that's fine. I don't care, whatever it is that you like to do, or you know, with your hobby or your job or whatever, leave your comfortable pond. Go somewhere else, get into someone else's pond and experience that that discomfort.
-
Go to a new place go to a different place and force yourself to be a little bit uncomfortable. There's nothing wrong with it, it's going to help you grow. That's how we grow muscles, right? We don't grow muscles by making them comfortable, we grow muscles by doing the exact opposite, we grow muscles by making them uncomfortable.
-
Then after they have been uncomfortable, they grow and they're better than they were before, and that's what I want for you. I want you to go out there get out of your comfortable pond. Experience some discomfort, something new, something different, something strange and grow. All right, ladies and gentlemen, that is it for today.

YouTube is new Bengals DL Renell Wren’s secret weapon
Wren could end up being a major draft steal.
Not every single draft prospect comes ready to be an instant influencer in the NFL. Some need a little time to grow once they get into the league. Bengals fourth-round defensive tackle Renell Wren falls into that category.
Wren has ALL the athleticism and attributes that teams covet when looking for defensive line prospects. At 6’5 and 318 pounds, Wren absolutely dominated the NFL Combine as one of the top performers of the weekend.
He was hovering around the 70th percentile in just about every workout outside of the three-cone drill.
Wren wasn’t always able to turn that athletic ability into on-field production during his time at Arizona State, however. In 29 games, Wren was only able to nab three sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss. Just to compare, fellow NFL prospect Ed Oliver matched those numbers in his final season at Houston — in only eight games.
This year’s draft is loaded with elite defensive linemen, but not every team can afford to use a premium pick on one. Wren, who will probably end up going in the middle rounds of the draft, could be a fantastic consolation prize for one team.
But Wren has a lot of work to do to become the dominant player his physical traits say he should be, and he knows it. SB Nation was able to catch up with Wren at the NFL Combine to talk about what he’s trying to improve and how he’s going about it.
Wren was clearly the best athlete on the field for Arizona State, but there’s room for development.
The talent Wren has is wildly apparent on tape. Watch him bull rush the center like he’s just a sled on the practice field.
While the burst is extremely impressive, Wren didn’t really attempt to disengage from the center and bring down the quarterback. That struggle to disengage showed up on his reps against the run as well.
Here’s another clip from Arizona State’s game against UTSA. Wren blows up the offensive line again, but isn’t able to get away from the blocker for a tackle in the backfield.
Wren is trying to get ready for the NFL by ... watching YouTube.
Wren knows that he has the ability to be a much more dominant player than he is now. One resource that he’s been using to try and get better? YouTube.
“I’ve really been looking at Chris Jones from the Chiefs and Fletcher Cox from the Eagles,” Wren said with a smile. “Just going on YouTube and looking at their pass-rush moves and getting in that extra work outside. I’m just doing the things that people aren’t seeing.
“I’ve been seeing them do in-and-outs. I’ve been seeing them do clubs, rips. Simple things, but seeing them at the snap of the ball attacking.”
Cox’s club move is a great move to study — at its peak, it can knock over even the biggest offensive linemen the NFL has to offer.
Wren also knows that his tactic of just bulldozing straight through offensive linemen likely won’t work in the NFL — a bit of nuance and finesse needs to be applied to his game to really unlock his full potential.
“I’m trying to work on taking on the shoulder [of the offensive lineman] instead of going straight down his chest. Just being able to prove that and show people that I can do more than just overpowering.”
Taking on the shoulder of the offensive line is what’s known as the “half-man” relationship. The science isn’t exact, but a lot of coaches will explain it as cutting the weight of the offensive lineman in half by just taking on one side of them.
If you’re battling against a 300-pound offensive lineman it makes sense, in theory, to take on 150 pounds of that player. Right now, a lot of Wren’s clips are him just trying to run over people.
The big thing he has going in his favor is that he’s just a much better athlete than other players at his position. If he’s used right, Wren could turn out to be the steal of the 2019 NFL Draft.

INDIANAPOLIS| APNewsBreak: Hoops panel says ban cheats, end 1-and-done
INDIANAPOLIS — The Commission on College Basketball sharply directed the NCAA to take control of the sport, calling for sweeping reforms to separate pro and college tracks, permit players to return to school after going undrafted by the NBA and ban cheating coaches for life.
The independent commission, led by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, released a detailed 60-page report Wednesday, seven months after the group was formed by the NCAA in response to a federal corruption investigation that rocked college basketball. Ten people, including some assistant coaches, have been charged in a bribery and kickback scheme , and high-profile programs such as Arizona, Louisville and Kansas have been tied to possible NCAA violations.
“The members of this commission come from a wide variety of backgrounds but the one thing that they share in common is that they believe the college basketball enterprise is worth saving,” Rice told the AP. “We believe there’s a lot of work to do in that regard. That the state of the game is not very strong.
“We had to be bold in our recommendations.”
The Associated Press obtained a copy of the report ahead of Rice presenting its findings to top NCAA officials. It’s not yet clear how the governing body would pay for some of the proposals, and some of the panel’s key recommendations would require cooperation from the NBA, its players union and USA Basketball.
The commission offered harsh assessments of toothless NCAA enforcement, as well as the shady summer basketball circuit that includes AAU leagues and brings together agents, apparel companies and coaches looking to profit on teenage prodigies. It called the environment surrounding college basketball “a toxic mix of perverse incentives to cheat,” and said responsibility for the current mess goes all the way up to university presidents.
The group recommended the NCAA have more involvement with players before they get to college and less involvement with enforcement. It also acknowledged the NCAA will need help to make some changes and defended its amateurism model, saying paying players a salary isn’t the answer.
“The goal should not be to turn college basketball into another professional league,” the commission wrote in its report.
Rice was scheduled to present the commission’s report to the NCAA’s Board of Governors and Division I Board of Directors on Wednesday morning. The two groups of university presidents planned to meet after Rice’s presentation to consider adopting the commission’s recommendations. If adopted, the hard work of turning the recommendations into NCAA legislation begins.
NCAA President Mark Emmert has said he wants reforms in place by August. The commission does, too. And it wants to review the NCAA’s plans for implementation before it goes before the boards for approval.
The 12-member commission made up of college administrators and former coaches and players was tasked with finding ways to reform five areas: NBA draft rules, including the league’s age limit that has led to so-called one-and-done players; the relationship between players and agents; non-scholastic basketball, such as AAU, meant to raise the profile of recruits; involvement of apparel companies with players, coaches and schools; and NCAA enforcement.
NCAA officials mostly stayed out of the process. Emmert and Georgia Tech President Bud Peterson were part of the commission, but not included in executive sessions, when proposals were being formed. The commission spent 70 percent of its time in executive session, Rice said, and kept its work secret until Wednesday’s reveal.
The overarching message to those in college athletics: Take responsibility for problems you have created.
ONE-AND-DONE
The commission emphasized the need for elite players to have more options when choosing between college and professional basketball, and to separate the two tracks.
The commission called for the NBA and its players association to change rules requiring players to be at least 19 years old and a year removed from graduating high school to be draft eligible. The one-and-done rule was implemented in 2006, despite the success of straight-from-high-school stars such as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett. The commission did, however, say if the NBA and NBPA refuse to change their rules in time for the next basketball season, it would reconvene and consider other options for the NCAA, such as making freshmen ineligible or locking a scholarship for three or four years if the recipient leaves a program after a single year.
“One-and-done has to go one way or another,” Rice told the AP, expressing hope the NBA would act.
The commission decided against attempting to mirror rules for baseball but said it could reconsider. Major League Baseball drafts players out of high school, but once an athlete goes to college he is not eligible to be drafted until after his third year. Baseball players can also return for their senior seasons after being drafted as long as they do not sign professional contracts.
The commission did take a piece of the baseball model and recommended basketball players be allowed to test the professional market in high school or after any college season, while still maintaining college eligibility. If undrafted, a college player would remain eligible as long as he requests an evaluation from the NBA and returns to the same school. Players could still leave college for professional careers after one year, but the rules would not compel them to do so.
ENFORCEMENT
The commission recommended harsher penalties for rule-breakers and that the NCAA outsource the investigation and adjudication of the most serious infractions cases. Level I violations would be punishable with up to a five-year postseason ban and the forfeiture of all postseason revenue for the time of the ban. That could be worth tens of millions to major conference schools. By comparison, recent Level I infractions cases involving Louisville and Syracuse basketball resulted in postseason bans of one year.
In those cases, then-Louisville coach Rick Pitino, who was later fired after being tied to the FBI investigation, received a five-game NCAA suspension for violations related to an assistant coach hiring strippers for recruits, and Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim was suspended for nine games for academic misconduct and extra benefits violations. The commission said suspensions should be longer, up to one full season.
Instead of show cause orders, which are meant to limit a coach’s ability to work in college sports after breaking NCAA rules, the report called for lifetime bans. The commission also said coaches and administrators should be contractually obligated comply with NCAA investigations.
AGENTS
The commission proposed the NCAA create a program for certifying agents, and make them accessible to players from high school through their college careers.
AAU AND SUMMER LEAGUES
The NCAA, with support from the NBA and USA Basketball, should run its own recruiting events for prospects during the summer, the commission said, and take a more serious approach to certifying events it does not control.
The NCAA should require greater transparency of the finances of what it called non-scholastic basketball events and ban its coaches from attending those that do not comply with more stringent vetting, the report said. Such a ban could wipe out AAU events that have flourished in showcasing future talent.
APPAREL COMPANIES
The commission also called for greater financial transparency from shoe and apparel companies such as Nike, Under Armour and Adidas. These companies have extensive financial relationships with colleges and coaches worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and Adidas had two former executives charged by federal prosecutors in New York in the corruption case.
The commission also called out university presidents, saying administrators can’t be allowed to turn a blind eye to infractions.
To that end, the commission said university presidents should be required to “certify annually that they have conducted due diligence and that their athletic programs comply with NCAA rules.”
The commission recommended the NCAA Board of Governors, currently comprised of 16 university presidents and chancellors, include five public members with full voting privileges who are not currently employed as university leaders.
Finally, the commission admonished those within college sports who use the NCAA as a scapegoat for the problems in basketball, saying universities and individuals are accountable for keeping the game clean.
“When those institutions and those responsible for leading them short-circuit rules, ethics and norms in order to achieve on-court success, they alone are responsible,” the commission wrote. “Too often, these individuals hide behind the NCAA when they are the ones most responsible for the degraded state of intercollegiate athletics, in general, and college basketball in particular.”

15 TO WATCH/5 SPORTS TECH/POWER OF SPORTS 5: RICK HORROW’S TOP SPORTS/BIZ/TECH/PHILANTHROPY ISSUES FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 12 with Jamie Swimmer & Jesse Leeds Grant
From top seed Virginia to final picks Arizona State and Syracuse, it feels as though everyone involved in March Madness is on the bubble this year. As noted by the AP and elsewhere, college basketball is in trouble. When the brackets were revealed on Selection Sunday, Kansas, Villanova, and Xavier joined Virginia as Number 1 seeds. But those teams, along with the other 64 contenders, will play against the backdrop of an NCAA investigation in which bribes and payoffs made bigger headlines than no-look passes and buzzer beaters. The tourney begins Tuesday with play-in games featuring UCLA and St. Bonaventure, then kicks into full swing Thursday and Friday at eight regional sites around the U.S. Shortly after the April 2 championship game in San Antonio, a commission led by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will likely deliver recommendations from an investigation triggered by an FBI probe that led to charges last fall against coaches, agents, shoe company employees, and others. No fewer than 12 tournament teams have been named by either the FBI or media investigations that allege coaches and others have directed payments and improper benefits to recruits and players – breaking rules that define both the NCAA and the "student-athletes" who created the $1.06 billion in revenue the NCAA earned in its 2017 fiscal year.
In all, the NCAA landed nearly $1.1 billion in annual revenue during the 2017 fiscal year, according to an audited financial statement released by the association last Wednesday. According to USA Today, that number marks the first time in NCAA history that it has surpassed the $1 billion threshold, with the statement also showing more than $956 million in expenses in the 2017 fiscal year alongside $105 million in profit. The rise in revenue came as a result of increases from TV and marketing fees in addition to investment income and increased revenue from championship events, according to the report. Television rights packages with tournament broadcast partners CBS and Turner accounted for more than $800 million of its revenue. That $800 million figure and the $8 billion the networks have agreed to pay to broadcast the tourney through 2032 also gives March Madness announcers some incentive to not mention the FBI investigation during courtside broadcasts.
As the NCAA tournament prepares to tip off this week, the NBA is likewise "preparing to get involved again with elite high school basketball players," according to ESPN and other sources. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and "several of his top advisers have been engaged in listening tours and information-gathering missions with an array of stakeholders for months." That has included formal meetings with the NBPA about "adjusting the so-called 'one-and-done' age-limit rule." A plan is "expected to include the NBA starting relationships with elite teenagers while they are in high school." It would ultimately "open an alternate path to the NBA besides playing in college and a way 18-year-olds could earn a meaningful salary.” Another benefit of the new NBA plan? It would undoubtedly cut down on the under the table payments and improper benefits being alleged in the current FBI investigation of NCAA coaches and players, as the top-tier recruits who stand to receive such compensation will likely forego college altogether, returning the college basketball environment to the “amateurs.”
During this year’s tournament, NCAA March Madness Live will offer fans multiple ways to engage with live coverage for all 67 games of the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. March Madness Live will run across 16 platforms this year – the most in the product’s history. In addition, the digital platform will introduce a new Fast Break feature offering continuous live streaming coverage throughout the first round of the NCAA Tournament, presented by AT&T and Lowe’s. The offering will include live streaming whip-around coverage of every tournament game during the first two full days of tournament action, switching from game-to-game with live look-ins, quick turnaround highlights, and commentary on behalf of all the games. NCAA March Madness Live will also continue to offer select NCAA Tournament games in virtual reality this year. Every year, as the dollar signs get bigger, the digital stakes get higher. And what happens around the digital brackets often slides over to other sports. The Madness spreads.
With March Madness upon us, the personal finance website WalletHub has released its NCAA Tournament Stats and Facts infographic as well as its report on 2018’s Best Cities for College Basketball Fans. To find 2018’s top spots for NCAA hoops, WalletHub crunched the numbers on more than 280 U.S. cities using nine key metrics. They range from the number of teams per city and the winning percentage of each to stadium capacity and social-media engagement. The survey identified the best cities for college basketball fans as #1 Chapel Hill, NC; #2 Lawrence, KS; #3 Los Angeles, CA; #4 Durham, NC; and #5 Lexington, KY. WalletHub also noted that the $8.98 million salary paid to college basketball’s highest paid coach, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, compared very favorably to the $1.4 million combined for Duke’s president and the North Carolina governor, and that the difference between the average NBA rookie’s salary ($2.36 million) and a D1 men’s basketball scholarship for a year ($130,000) is a factor of 18x. Get those brackets filled out before Thursday, and let the unofficial U.S. hoops holiday begin.
This year’s NCAA March Madness Music Festival – presented by the NCAA, Turner Live Events, and official NCAA Corporate Champions AT&T, Coca-Cola and Capital One – will take place at Hemisfair in San Antonio as part of this year’s NCAA Final Four celebration. The three-day free music festival features Maroon 5 and Imagine Dragons, and additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks. The festival opens on March 30 with the AT&T Block Party, while Imagine Dragons take the stage on March 31 as the Coca-Cola Music headliner. Maroon 5 then headlines the Capital One JamFest on April 1. Even with a mega sporting event as big as March Madness and its crowning Final Four weekend, organizers and sponsors alike are ever-cognizant of the need to keep fans entertained with wall-to-wall shoulder programming, even when the on-court attraction is as good as its going to get all year.
Woods-stock is back. Tiger Woods moved to 149th in the Official World Ranking, up from 388, and won $572,000 in prize money with his (tied for) second place finish in the Valspar Championship. And when it comes to picking up a check, according to GolfWorld there's no state he'd rather be in than Florida. Woods has now earned $20,553,868 in the Sunshine State, or slightly more than 20% of the $100 million he's made in the U.S. Ohio ($16,335,145) ranks second on the list and California comes in third ($16,057,684), followed by Georgia (those four green jackets help) at $13,372,311. After three PGA starts so far this season and plenty of fist pumps and power shots that remind golf fans of the Woods of old, it feels like this might be the year that Woods can finally bring his magic back to the sport. Golf fans seem to agree, as ticket prices have skyrocketed in recent days for those who want to watch Tiger compete in the Masters for just the second time since 2013. According to TicketIQ.com, the average price of a single-day ticket at Augusta this year is a whopping $2,948.42 on secondary markets. Compare that to $2,592.91 for last year’s Masters. A renewed Tiger Mania has effectively increased the price of entry at Augusta National by 20%. And we’re still four weeks, and several tourneys, away.
Jimmy Pitaro beat out at least five internal candidates to become ESPN’s eighth and newest president. Pitaro, who headed up Disney’s consumer products and interactive media group since 2016, will report directly to Disney Chair and CEO Bob Iger. Pitaro replaces John Skipper, who resigned in December citing a substance abuse problem. Former ESPN President George Bodenheimer took over as interim president for a 90-day period while Iger interviewed for a permanent replacement. Iger picked Pitaro over internal candidates including ESPN Exec VP/Affiliate Sales and Marketing Justin Connolly, Exec VP/Content Connor Schell, Exec VP/Programming and Scheduling Burke Magnus, Exec VP/International Russell Wolff, and others. Iger was reportedly swayed that Pitaro’s background in digital media, sports, and consumer products would be a good fit for a sports media company trying to navigate a new media world. One of the first tasks on Pitaro's to-do list will be overseeing the launch of ESPN+, coming later this spring. He will also need to focus on looming sports rights renewals: ESPN’s MLB and NFL deals end in 2021.
Need data to prove that the U.S. is in fact the biggest international sports market? Here’s some more food for thought for new ESPN honcho Jimmy Pitaro. According to a newly-released global industry survey, the worldwide sports media rights market is valued at $49.5 billion. American sports rights holders take in 36% ($18 billion) of that total, with the NFL ($7.3 billion), NBA ($3.9 billion) and MLB ($3.4 billion) regarded as three of the four most valuable sports media properties in the world. The English Premier League ($4.5 billion) is the only non-U.S. based sports media property generating more than $3 billion per year in revenue. For reference purposes, the Champions League, La Liga and Serie A bring in $2.2 billion, $1.9 billion, and $1.5 billion, respectively. Major shifts in sports consumer preferences and tastes, as well as the NFL’s recent troubles, will likely cause Pitaro to more closely evaluate opportunities outside of U.S. borders for ESPN.
Here’s even more food for ESPN thought: mass audience reach, long believed to be an assumed advantage of the largest TV networks, is proving to be a myth. In 2018, marketers and agency executives at all levels are rating Facebook, Amazon, and Google/YouTube as more valuable at delivering on that goal than broadcasting and lead cable network groups. The trio’s market dominance is being driven by their ability to share detailed metrics against specific KPIs identified by marketers and their agencies. A new survey of over 1,200 U.S. brand marketers and agency executives, conducted by Jack Myers Tomorrow Today for Media Village, revealed that 80% of respondents rated the three online companies as very valuable for reach delivery, compared to 61% who rated the four leading broadcast networks as valuable. While ESPN was not named in the survey, the continuing mass migration to social and digital media is the impetus behind sports networks’ large-scale investment in proprietary social/digital platforms, and a major reason the Twitters and Facebooks of our world can now land Big Four sports media rights – a notion that would have been laughable even a handful of years ago.
And in that vein, SI.com just examined how Instagram "conquered the NBA." While soccer "still reigns supreme worldwide, the NBA is Instagram’s shining star domestically." The NBA’s official account "has 27 million followers -- nearly doubling the NFL’s 10.9 million and MLB’s 4 million combined -- and totaled a whopping 3.7 billion video views on the platform last year." LeBron James "leads all U.S. athletes with 35.7 million followers, dwarfing Tom Brady’s 3.9 million." And the Warriors "lead all team accounts with 8 million followers." As new basketball stars and NBA prospects arise during the NCAA tournament, it will be instructive to see how many new Instagram followers they gain alongside points, assists, and rebounds.
Churchill Downs, Inc. has announced it will acquire casinos in Pennsylvania and Mississippi, as it prepares to capitalize on legalized sports betting. The company will buy the Presque Isle Downs & Casino in Erie, PA (for $178.9 million) and the Lady Luck Casino in Vicksburg, Mississippi (for $50.6 million), from current owner Eldorado Resorts. Both Pennsylvania and Mississippi have passed sports betting legislation that would change their laws, should the U.S. Supreme Court rule in favor. Churchill Downs also owns brick-and-mortar casinos in Illinois, Kentucky, and Louisiana -- three other states actively working towards sports betting legalization. While Presque Isle Downs & Casino is among the lowest revenue-generating casinos in Pennsylvania, it is a significant acquisition for Churchill Downs. Pennsylvania recently legalized online gambling and the law passed covers mobile wagering on sporting events when permitted by federal law. While land-based casinos are profitable, mobile sports betting really has Churchill Downs excited. TwinSpires, the company’s online horse betting platform, accounted for $256.7 million in 2017 revenue. You can assume the company will look to quickly turn their database of users betting on the ponies into mainstream sports gamblers.
In Miami, the new MLS ownership group inches closer to its stadium site. According to the Miami Herald, David Beckham and Jorge Mas met this week with Miami City Manager Emilio Gonzalez about building an MLS stadium on the city-owned Melreese Country Club, "floating a 180-acre alternative" near Miami International Airport. Mas and his brother Jose have discussed with Gonzalez "how the Melreese park could mesh with the Mas ambitions for a sprawling soccer complex." Gonzalez is entertaining the "possibility of renting at least a sizable portion of Miami’s largest park and a public 18-hole golf course to a for-profit soccer stadium and commercial complex." Miami has always been a hotbed of public-private investment – much of which has deserved a raised eyebrow or two – and the new proposed mixed-use soccer stadium is only the most recent footnote in that grand tradition.
The NHL and NHLPA, in conjunction with Live Nation, announced dates, local start times, locations and ticketing information for the 2018 NHL Global Series and the 2018 NHL Global Series Challenge. In January, the NHL announced that the Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, New Jersey Devils, and Winnipeg Jets will play regular-season games in Europe as part of the slate. The Oilers and Devils will play their 2018-2019 season-opening game against each other in Gothenburg, Sweden on October 6, while the Panthers and Jets will face off in a pair of regular-season games in Helsinki, Finland on November 1-2. Prior to the New Jersey-Edmonton season-opening matchup, the Devils and Oilers will complete their training camps in Europe and will each play in an exhibition match as part of the 2018 NHL Global Series Challenge. Even though we didn’t get to see NHL players complete in the Olympics this year, the Global Series Challenge gives hockey fans around the world a taste of the NHL – and allows the league, rather than the IOC, to control the schedule and the accompanying revenue.
Elsewhere in Olympic-land, the IOC has laid out an overview of 25 recommendations from its Gender Equality Review Project, in a move to “focus on changing the conversation about women in sport holistically – from participation to representation and decision-making.” According to Cynopsis Sports, the recommendations cover five key areas – sport, portrayal, funding, governance, and human resources. “We are certain that, through the implementation of the 25 IOC Gender Equality Recommendations, we as the Olympic Movement – athletes, officials, commissions, federations and executives – can take real steps to enact effective change together,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. “It is not just the right thing to do. It is in the interest of us all – the fans, the families, and every girl and woman who has been able to fully realize her dreams through athletic participation.” A fitting way for the IOC to celebrate last week’s International Women’s Day, and the rest of March, which is Women’s History Month.

Levy Restaurants, in collaboration with California technology startup Miso Robotics, is developing a robotic chef capable of cooking in commercial kitchens such as sports venues. The artificial kitchen assistant, named Flippy in its initial pilot testing, is an industrial robotic arm that uses a combination of cameras, artificial intelligence, thermal scanners, and lasers to know when to turn burgers and remove them from the grill, complete deep-frying cycles, or chop vegetables. The robotic arm is capable of instantly receiving digital orders, starting food on a grill or fryer, monitoring precise food temperatures during cooking, removing that food, and then alerting humans when it’s time to finish and serve items. The robot can even change spatulas from one for raw food to one for cooked food to ensure compliance with safety regulations. “We’ve essentially built a third hand for overworked chefs,” said David Zito, Miso Robotics co-founder and chief executive. The technology is set to debut this summer at Dodger Stadium, at a popular food stand at the ballpark offering fried chicken. That installation will be followed by one at L.A.’s Staples Center this fall, and a broader rollout over the next two years across Levy’s portfolio of sports and entertainment clients.
Social media features NCAA March Madness selection show. Ahead of this year’s 2018 NCAA March Madness Selection Show, Turner Sports and CBS Sports produced a special four-hour Social Madness social media preshow, running exclusively on official March Madness handles across YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook along with NCAA.com and Bleacher Report. March Madness Selection Countdown will showcase fan-created content from schools and teams that have earned automatic bids to this year’s 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship via conference championships, in addition to those seeking at-large bids. The key for the joint CBS-Turner tournament has always been to evolve and innovate all aspects of how it is broadcast, beginning with moving the tournament to four different channels in 2011 and expanding regularly to different online and social platforms. The more aggressive move to social in 2018 represents the next generation of March Madness Selection Show expansion.

Whoop, the wearable company that partnered with the NFL Players Association last year to track player strain and recovery, has secured a $25 million Series C funding round led by UAE71 Capital with participation from the NFLPA, Kevin Durant via the Durant Company, and NBA Commissioner Emeritus David Stern. "In the process of fundraising you meet people and get introduced to one another," Whoop co-founder and CEO Will Ahmed said when asked how he met UAE71. “They’ve worked with other products in the past and we were excited by their point of view of expanding internationally.” Founded out of the Harvard iLab in 2012, Whoop uses the wristbands to track data about an athlete's sleep schedule, "strain" during workouts, and recovery afterwards. The company has now raised about $50 million in total. Whoop wristbands have been approved for in-game use by Major League Baseball, and the company is working toward similar arrangements with the NFL and the NBA.

Tom Brady gets a buzz cut for charity and raises $6.5 million. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady just got a buzz cut for a cancer research institute. Brady was the mystery guest at last Thursday's "Saving by Shaving" annual fundraiser for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Brady showed off his new look on Instagram after his long, brown hair was shaved down with a razor. Granite Telecommunications holds the event at its headquarters in Quincy, Massachusetts. The company pledged to give over $5 million to the cancer institute if 1,000 people shaved their heads or beards. Granite Telecomm says 1,200 people participated this year, and it will contribute $6.5 million for its fifth annual event. "It's great to see you guys out here. I know you're doing great work and I know we are going to continue to do the same," Brady told the crowd. Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker stood beside Brady. "It's a great statement about him as well as a great statement about how much people appreciate the chance to do this on behalf of such a great cause," Baker said. Saving by Shaving has raised close to $15 million in four years.
Rich Eisen runs 40-yard dash for charity. Every year, Rich Eisen steps onto the starting block at the NFL Combine and runs a 40-yard dash, with the NFL Network anchor using the platform to benefit St. Jude Children's Hospital. This marks the 14th consecutive year that Eisen has run a televised 40. He posted his best time in 2016, when he ran a 5.94. That’s the second time in all these years that Eisen has managed to get below six seconds. This raises money for a wonderful cause, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. St. Jude’s provides treatment and care to children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases, and they never turn away a patient based on their ability to pay. Families do not receive any bill from St. Jude’s when their child receives treatment there. The NFL Network will contribute $25,000 this year to St. Jude’s on behalf of Run Rich Run. AT&T Audience Network, Courtyard by Marriott, and Under Armour also pledged $25,000 each to St. Jude’s as part of this initiative, for a total of $100,000. “I’m touched and honored by the chance to do anything on behalf of St. Jude and the terrific partners of Run Rich Run who support it,” Eisen said, “If only any of that could make me run faster.”

Former NFL punter to play in charity game for 9/11 victims. The Washington Wild Things, an independent minor league baseball team in Pennsylvania, announced that former NFL punter Pat McAfee will play in a Wild Things game this season as part of a promotion that benefits a veterans' charity. The 30-year-old McAfee retired after the 2016 NFL season to join media company Barstool Sports, which announced the promotion for the June 21 Wild Things game. According to a team release, McAfee will be in the starting lineup, playing right field for Washington before batting and coaching first base in his pro baseball debut against the Traverse City Beach Bums. Fans attending the game also will receive a free T-shirt, with $1 draft beer available. The Wild Things said half of all proceeds from the game will benefit the "It's About the Warrior Foundation," a post-9/11 veterans organization that assists and empowers all Tri-State area post-9/11 veterans and their families via various programs. "I'm very grateful that the Washington Wild Things are willing to have a great time with some promotion while raising money for an incredible cause," McAfee said. "(One-dollar) pints, a free T-shirt and a chance that I die from getting hit by a pitch from a professional pitcher is quite a recipe for an incredible time."
