save do you have any tips for managing migraines
uhhhhhh lessee
personally i have prescriptions for it cause mine screwed my brain up but obvious ones like proper rest + maybe log what you eat and see if theres any correlation + general put nutrients in your body stuff which is actually kind of hard to keep track of
i have some REALLY WEIRD scent based triggers so i have to stay away from ammonia-like scents and eucalyptus cause those will put my ass out flat IMMEDIATELY, thats not an everyone thing but maybe note if theres sensory stuff around you that might be a trigger
for me warm toned lights and screen tints are way better than cool tones/white light and if youve got light colored eyes wear amber tinted sunglasses outdoors
water + salty snack > pedialite > gatorade and depending on caffeine sensitivity maybe moderate that cause it can either help or hurt, kinda depends on the person, but water and saltines will get you electrolytes and its cheap as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck even if it doesnt taste as great as gatorade
sunlight on your skin and not in your eyeballs
also vitamin d just in general helps but its way better to actually use the sun for that than trying to digest it so like just 10ish minutes in the sun is what my neurologist recommended on top of taking 2000mg tablets
thats what ive got off the top of my head
#im not a neurologist but i dont get them as bad anymore at least#also if learning what you feel like beforehand so you can nip it before it starts helps a LOT#if you can take a painkiller before it starts itll do way more for you#but also dont undertreat it like dont stick it out thats what fucked me up hardcore just take the painkiller#i have to take at least 800mg of ibuprofen if i even sniff a migraine coming on but check with a doc before you do that#i also gotta pair it with sumatriptan and i can only do that 3 times a month Or Else#if ibuprofen doesnt knock it outta me its an er trip and they stuff an iv in me and pump my ass so full of drugs#oh also too much water can also cause migraines#best to stick with the 8 8oz a day thing and not go too far over#but yeah being proactive and preventative is better than coasting and treating them when they come#sometimes ill sip a little pickle juice causenits got magnesium and potassium on top of the sodium for electrolytes#i know food logs arent GREAT but they can help with stuff like this even just kinda checking in on if youre getting everything you need#i go sorta peasant with it like as long as ive had a couple greens in a week i should be good to go#snap peas or artichoke hearts or other really solid veggables#or#god bless#The Cucumber#cucumbers are the powerhouse of the vegatable

I am very confused about my neurology appointment this afternoon.
A lot of things were confusing but I think what confused me the most was that she told me she doesn’t deal with nerve damage, paralysis-like symptoms, or seizure-like symptoms. Is she? A neurologist? I’m genuinely struggling to figure out what she would deal with.
#she also stabbed me with a needle four times without warning to see if I could feel it#the top of my foot has a hole in it#medical#neurologist#physical disability#not whump

because apparently I need to “redirect my energy” into advocacy in order to help with the overwhelming feeling of loneliness, lack of community, and silence from my medical school, here’s the link to my resources for justice page, which has:
- Articles - Organizations - Shops - Toolkits - Self-Care - Books (oh lord are there books)
https://desicosplay.tumblr.com/justice
#feel free to add on to this post or send me stuff to add#tldr; a member of an lgbt advocacy board told me i should get involved in advocacy more to feel hope again#when the issue i had broached was that no one was making sure students were okay and that i felt alone and unsupported because of the silenc#in case you don't know how med school works#i have to learn the ins and outs of the entire human body in two years#including diseases disorders and what normal looks like#then the following two years are clinical experiences#then i apply to be a real MD (residency)#so rn on top of balancing calling legislators every two days#i'm studying for a practical and written exam on the brain#which includes things that neurologists are like 'that's overkill for a PCP'#and there's literally so much that we are taught that we are not permitted to have jobs the first two years and are discouraged the second 2#my 9-5 (sometimes 9-10PM) is studying and lecture#anyways#yea

Remembering how I had an allergic reaction one summer. Complete with hundreds of hives all over my back and my throat swelling. And I had to go to the ER and get an IV of antihistamines.
And then I went to the allergist and they didn't see any new allergies on the test so the allergist said THAT I MUST HAVE BEEN BITTEN BY BUGS AND DIDN'T NOTICE. THAT I WAS BITTEN MY HUNDREDS OF BUGS THAT GAVE ME HIVES. NOT BITES. AND I DIDN'T NOTICE. AND YES HE WAS A MAN
#puffer talks#the hate i have for male doctors is out of this world#same as the time a doctor saw the lateral stretch marks on my back#and said that 'teenage boys get those in a big growth spurt#when i first of all am not a boy and second of all have not grown since the 7th grade#i hate men#or when i had what we can only assume now was a hemiplegic migraine and the TOP OF YHE STATE neurologist ruled out stroke#and then immediately brought it in a psychiatrist#because surely i lost feeling in my left side from being a silly anxious woman#or when i was in the er because i was stuck having multiple seizures and i was still unable to communicate and my mom wasn't being let in#and the doctor saw my med list i alwaus have with me#and said about my POTS medication that it 'must be for anxiety'#which that medication has no usage for anxiety#slay#sorry i needed to yell#also the allergic reaction was because i have HATS

Man, life is just depressing right now
#the one thing that was keeping me sane has gone away#i would always say 'yeah every medical professional has given up and there's nothing they can do. but at least i have my PTs' well...#my current PT's are the only ones that ever treated me like a person and they always kept trying...but they've given up too#basically Clare was like we haven't made any gains in over a year and your state keeps getting worse. nothing we do helps#so it may be time to consider stopping bc throwing away money isnt helpful either#and i argued that it's damage control and improves my quality of life and i have a progressive disease i never was going to get better#not to mention mentally it helps to know there's people in my corner and at least they haven't given up on me#but now they have and im feeling so very very alone and hopeless#it's not like this is a surprise right? ive always been beyond help and it's an incurable degenerative disease#but still getting to this point fucking sucks#and i went to the new neurologist and he had nothing but crazy experiments bc ive tried fucking everything#and then to top it off the only doctor i trusted from when i was a teenager for one specific med issue had also said the same#literally this week she was like there's nothing more. i cant help find someone else. sorry kid. wishing you the best#and Xmas is a depressing and challenging time too#and i have 400 med problems while trying to find work#the past few weeks have pulverized me and i havent stopped crying in days#so yeah. terribly terribly alone#and im trying not to go down any spirals and havent. my therapist was out this week. but im seriously questioning the point#at this point maybe i should give up too#im being stubborn bc no i cant go yet i havent seen the lights yet or read my new books#but honestly i havent been able to read partially bc im afraid if i do im losing the last tethers to earth#there's not much or anything to live for#it's at times like these you truly realize how much you dont want to die. you just wish you could live#but im broke and freezing and in pain and alone. this story's ending fucking sucks#my dbt is coming in clutch but seriously. is there a point anymore?#never got to live. sick since a kid. hell was always here#sorry for the depressing state of things ill go back to being insane in a moment#p

A WIP of a comic thingy I’m workin on cus I’m impatient. Sometimes you have an OC who’s specifically there to be inserted into universes where Your Blorbo Needs A Therapist. Doc Laanka’s got her work cut out for her with these two…
… kinda.
#my wips#I rly should just be writing fics at this point AHDVSH it’d be easier as far as these conversation heavy scenes go in my head#but also: what if I made my hand hurt by drawing everything individually#laanka again is kinda my universal therapist OC. in whatever universe I put her in she acts as a therapeutic outlet.#in general she’s pretty brain-focused in her studies. she’s usually some kinda neurologist on top of doing psychotherapy.#in ASO her job is primarily psychotherapy but she researches cerebroslugs in her available time. usually oversees individual research teams#she also doesn’t think of them as parasites and is more sympathetic to their existence. a lot of her clients are host&slug who want to-#-explore coexisting together.#which in my head is kinda how Norman and Skip get in contact with her. Norman reads about her and is like ‘oh I’ll shoot her an email’-#-and Skip decides No He Wants To Send The Email so skip just sends laanka an email that just says ‘therapy’. no grammar no punctuation-#-no context. and Norman nearly dies on the spot of embarrassment. Laanka gets back to them within the hour and she’s seen cerebroslug-#-emails before. she knows that’s probably what she’s dealing with. sends back an email like ‘hi anonymous :) yes I do offer therapy.#would you like me to send you some available times I have coming up? would love to know your name as well! - Dr. Laanka Noelle’#Norman decides that he’s gonna send the emails from now on Thank You Skip. Thanks bud HWBDHDH#anyway. I’ll get this done… eventually. I just think my man(s) could use therapy LMAO

Don’t get me wrong, I love characters who embrace their disabilities and aren’t pre-occupied with the goal of ‘curing’ them as much as the next person. But as somebody whose body is trying to kill her and is in constant chronic pain and wants NOTHING MORE than to feel what’s it’s like to have a functional body, Viktor from Arcane is so fucking cathartic.
#like I also want to become a well-oiled machine so that my failing human body can't stop me from doing what I love/living#when Viktor said 'I can feel my body eroding' I lost my shit because SOMEBODY FINALLY PUTS IT HOW I FEEL#LIKE BRO ITS ALL FALLING APART BUT NAH ITS FINE DONT WORRY ABOUT IT#Fortunately the chances of me straight up dying from my weird bullshit is pretty low#but like...when the spinal stuff starts acting up and my muscles are weaker than ever omg#Disability Pride and all that obviously#like I'm not ashamed of any of my disabilities and I AM genuienly ok with having most of them#just not...the ones that are putting my life at risk sometimes (passing out on top of a tall ladder is not good)#and causing me pain/inability to function#like OH MY GOD I would also basically invest my whole self into dark magic if it meant getting me out of this mess#I can work with the autism/NVLD (my therapist and neurologist disagree on which I have)#and I can work with some of the other shit that's rarer and so I'm not saying what they are because that's a quick way to be id-ed#but OH MY GOD get the rest of this out of me fuck it get me a robo body I want it so bad
