Suzuki Cappuccino :) or other baby roadsters
Oh, I had a post in the chamber about exactly that! :D
So, Japan is pretty densely populated. Let's put it this way: one reason the Tokyo metro area couldn't do a huge and extremely weird cultural exchange where every citizen trades place with someone from Australia, Belgium or Slovenia, is there aren't enough Australians, Belgians and Slovenians combined to do that. So you can imagine it would be pretty advantageous to public life for people to drive small cars - hence the popularity of kei cars, a car class with huge tax benefits and tiny engine and dimensions limits. Those limits, positively minuscule when they were introduced to push bike makers to use their parts to make small cars, eventually increased to a 0.66L engine size and the dimensions below...
...and in the late 80s there was a "gentleman's agreement" whereby no one would make a kei car more powerful than 64hp, similar to the other gentleman's agreement whereby they agreed not to make cars with more than 276hp - which they cleverly addressed by equipping more powerful cars, like the Skyline GT-Rs, with unusual little devices called lies.
But now it's the 1990s -contrary to popular misconceptions- and Japanese businesses and customers have a problem: what the fuck do we do with all this money?
To truly convey the desperation with which cash was being thrown around like primate feces, Mazda created FIVE sub-brands (Amati, Autozam, ɛ̃fini, Xedos, and Eunos, brand under which they sold the Miata as Eunos Roadster) AND gave the SIXTH sub-brand M2 separate headquarters - these headquarters. In Tokyo.
M2 only ever made parts and some fringe prototypes, the most it produced were three Eunos Roadster-based limited versions - they cost twice as much as the original (and for good reason - one of them used leather deemed too expensive by the only other automaker to ever use it, Rolls Royce), but because economic bubble, they were so sought after they had to set up a lottery, Andrea was telling us, and as he got to the uber-limited production numbers (a combined 780), he explained that, since of course they were only sold in Japan, there were only five in the whole of Europe. He then raised his finger and, in one of the greatest flexes I have ever witnessed, pointed it around his huge, Miata-packed shed, counting "one, two, three, four, five".
S'yah, it turns out the world's biggest Miata collection is just owned by Some Guy in the middle of Italy, and if your kid ever gets dumped it is a wonderful place to take him to cheer him back up. Thanks, dad.
So clearly, this was a point in time where even people with no need nor wish nor space for a large second car, or a large car at all, could still be interested in a sportscar, thus spawning some briefly-lived but oh-so-brightly-burning kei sportscars, nicknamed ABC.
One of them being, indeed, the Suzuki Cappuccino.
Please remember, this car is positively lilliputian. It's 3.30m long. For the yankees in the audience, that's just 0.03 football fields. Here are some fun size comparisons.
The engine was front-mid and turbocharged...
...the roof was a fun puzzle that allowed you to have a T-Top coupe (with just the sides off), a targa (with the top part of the roof removed but the rear pillar of the roof still in place) or a spider (by folding the rear pillar and window down)...
...and it was NOT exclusive to Japan, with 12% of units being sold in the UK!
youtube
But since this was clearly asked by someone quite familiar with its generalities, some less-known quirks for the geeks:
It was the first kei car ever with double wishbones all around
The indicators changed between JDM and UK versions so if you've got the latter finding spares is 10 times harder
The hood release is in the glovebox and the fuel release is in the center console storage - the latter locks with a different key than the ignition uses, so if you hand just the latter to the valet you can keep them from siphoning your gas, but I'm yet to hear whether that also goes for the glovebox, so stay tuned for updates on whether you can also keep them from siphoning your washer fluid
Air gets to the engine (well, to the turbo) through the frame. Like, it gets into the frame, it travels inside the frame, and then gets out and is filtered. Now, you may ask yourself why they would do that.
While most cars had front disc brakes at the time, the less effective but cheaper drum brakes were usually used on the rear, which was fine since when a car brakes weight transfers to the front so the front wheels are the ones that get more grip and can thus brake harder anyway - so not only do you not need the rear wheels to have the same stopping power, you don't even want them to, because then the rear wheels would lock up before the front ones even got to their full braking potential. So when the Cappuccino got four wheel disc brakes, like every other car with four wheel disc brakes, it didn't put four discs of the same size all around. Unlike every other car with four wheel disc brakes, however, they put the bigger ones at the rear. A friend who owns one called the brakes "not amazing".
Then again, let's cut them some slack, it was the second kei car ever with four wheel disc brakes! Second, yes, because the Cappuccino was not the first kei-sized sportscar.
So, remember how with Ferrari, the last car to be signed off by its founder was a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive, manual, record-setting, no frills two-seater sportscar? Well, the Japanese being famous overachievers, that goes for Soichiro Honda's last two.
Supposedly, Honda decided that its F1 engines hadn't kicked Ferrari's ass enough, so they set out to build a car as approachable, reliable and daily-life-friendly as a Honda yet faster through both straights and corners than a Ferrari. Or a Lamborghini. Or a Porsche- you get the idea. Thus, the NSX, seen here next to it is its test driver, tuning consultant and enthusiastic owner Ayrton Senna, best known for driving the car on the left into three championship wins, a bunch of "Greatest Of All Time" debates, and a wall that killed him.
But if your second-to-last car is a two seat, mid-engined, rear wheel drive sportscar with Pininfarina design, a 40mm short-throw manual, and a redline past 8000RPM, what do you do for your last one? Easy! Another!
This little bowl of pint-sized cuteness is the Honda Beat, and yes, that interior is not just factory, but was the only pattern available. Still, if you think the interior is the most outlandish part of this car, you haven't heard it.
youtube
Again, this engine was outsized by two Coke cans and the car it's in is no bigger than the Cappuccino, and you already know how... ah, screw it, let's show you a size comparison anyway.
Some geek facts:
It was the first mid-engine monocoque (as in not body-on-frame, not un-shark-like, you pervs) spider ever made! There were some targas before, but never a full-on spider
The stereo was custom to fit in the super-narrow center console between the two asymmetrical cabin spaces so the cassette slot has the same cute little Beat logo as the "Open Air Motoring!" branded floormats!
Gathers celebrated its 20th anniversary with a new touchscreen radio for it that is now uber-rare and uber-expensive
It had two trunks, which is lovely, except that the rear one had the battery and optional CD changer conspiring against you and the front was literally inside the spare tire, so it's good that you could also get a rear rack!
The rear rims are bigger than the front!
With how much cooler this is than the Cappuccino (sorry, friend who owns one) it's quite the shame Suzuki decided not to go forward with the mid-engine layout their kei sportscar development started with. At least, Mazda sure thought as much, asking Suzuki to please keep working on that idea and make a mid-engined kei sportscar for them to sell under their brand for the youth, Autozam. And thus we have the ABC - C for Cappuccino, B for Beat...
...and A for AZ-1. Think of how cool life was in Japan back in the day that this was a car for the youth.
Fun facts:
IT HAS GULLWING FUCKING DOORS
The spare tire was mounted in the front compartment but crashing made it jam the steering wheel in your chest so they sent owners a little bag and asked them to please put that tire behind the seats
GULLWING FUCKING DOORS
Suzuki sold a few of them themselves as the Cara
G U L L W I N G D O O R S
Sadly, it joined the party (JapaneseEconomicBoomfest, that is) just when it was ending. Hell, the Beat was sold for six years ('91 through '96) and two thirds of Beats sold are 1991s. That's how hard recession hit Japan right when the AZ-1 came out, which indeed sold a fraction of the other two.
But fear not: after decades, Honda blew the dust off the kei sportscar idea in 2015 with the gloriously sexy S660.
It did cease production last year, but at least it left the Japanese used market a kei sportscar with the modern amenities we (and by we I mean you spoiled pussies) cannot do without, like steering wheel controls and *squints* HDMI.
Oh by the way, remember how I said I was going to post about the Cappuccino? Well, it was because someone posted a picture of one with aftermarket taillights.
Guess what car was next to it when this picture was taken. Guess.
WRONG.
"What? Where was this?" At a Fiat 500 meeting, of course. And then people wonder why I love Japan so much.
Links in blue are posts of mine explaining the words in question - if you liked this post, you might like those!

Movies I watched this Week #116 (Year 3/Week 12):
🍿
The Maid by Chilean director Sebastián Silva is my favorite film of the week! A perfectly simple drama about the life of a live-in housekeeper. After 23 years of humble domestic service, aging, still-virgin Raquel is loyal to the large family that employs her, and becomes protective of her job, when they hire a second maid to help her. 10/10
🍿
Alejandro Jodorowsky’s latest movie, Endless Poetry, is the second part and sequel of his surreal auto-biography, after ‘Dance of Reality’. Visually-rich, excessively avant-garde and inventive as always. 5/10.
🍿
Pacifiction, my first Polynesian tour de force (actually it’s an international co-production, directed by Catalan provocateur Albert Serra). Picked by ‘Cahiers du Cinéma’ as the Best film for 2022. A moody and very slow-burn, it’s supposedly a political thriller that leisurely rolls on, aimlessly and with great intensity. The story of the French High Commissioner in Tahiti is about colonialism, white privilege and the entitled ruling class, a Graham Greene for the modern age.
Mysterious and intriguing, it reminded me of ‘The Conversation’, my all-time favorite Coppola’s, even though they had nothing in common on the surface. For nearly 3 hours of incredibly-building atmosphere it felt like a unique, transforming film experience. But then - it suddenly cut off and ended! Without any resolution, or conclusion, or even just an acknowledgement. It’s as if the last 10 pages of the script were ripped out before the end-titles. Very disappointing!
It also featured a traditional dancer, Shannah, in one of the best transgender roles I’ve ever seen.
I was planning on following this up with another of Serra’s controversial films, the pornographic ‘Liberté’ (about an orgy in the forest), but Pacifiction’s ending bummed me out so much, so I’ll keep that for another time. So only 5/10.
🍿
The Kid with a Bike, my second by the Belgian Dardenne brothers (after ‘The elephant and the butterfly’). A sad story of a difficult childhood: A 12-year-old boy had been abandoned by his father, and eventually finds some solace with a kind hairdresser. 9/10.
🍿
5 more from Jean-Pierre Jeunet:
🍿 “Did no one ever wonder how a young waitress afforded such sophisticated decoration for a flat in Montmartre, one of Paris’s most expensive districts?”
Jeunet has just re-cut and released his 2001 comedy‘ The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain’ as a short film which reveals that Amélie was actually a KGB spy.
🍿 A Very Long Engagement, a toned-down World War 1 fairy tale romance starring Audrey Tautou (and Jodie Foster). Bleak and surrealistic, it reminded me of Peter Jackson’s ‘They shall not grow old’. 9/10.
🍿 As a life-long (53.5 years) vegetarian, I never mustered the courage to watch his uncomfortably meat-heavy, post-apocalyptic Delicatessen, until now. A grotesque, black comedy nightmare, starring the rubber-face Dominique Pinon (who played in all his movies the last 35 years), Modern day Hieronymus Bosch canvas, wilder than Terry Gilliam’s Brazil, as surrealist as Fellini at his ‘The Clowns’ best.
I was planning on seeing also his Delicatessen-related ‘The city of lost children’, but to be honest, his overindulgent style was too much in large dozes, so I’ll keep it for another week.
🍿 Two snails go away, a quirky animated short based on a poem by Jacques Prévert, each line read by another of his many life-long collaborators.
🍿 My favorite of his is still Nonsense (Foutaises - “Things I Like, Things I Hate”) from 1989, one of the greatest shorts in Cinema IMO. [Copy is in French with no English subtitles].
🍿
I was happy to finally find a free copy of Truffaut’s romantic The Last Metro, which I haven’t seen in over 40 years, and which I always recalled as one of his best love triangles. Well, it’s top-tier maybe, but not ‘best’. Catherine Deneuve is at her most magnificence, and the score by Georges Delerue is beautiful too. Very close to ‘Day for night’ thematically, it was the 2nd part of a planned 'Entertainment world’ trilogy. (Photo Above).
🍿
2 films about reading aloud:
🍿 Las Analfabetas, another wonderful story, my 3rd Chilean movie of the week. This one about an illiterate middle-aged woman who reluctantly learns to read, thanks to the insistence of a young teacher. 8/10.
🍿 The reader, my first (disappointing) film with French actress Miou-Miou. A literary male-gaze, Chinese-box parable about a woman who places an ad in the paper, offering an in-home reading-aloud service. As she comes into their homes, the stories that she reads to them become part of her story, moving in and out of their lives. 2/10.
🍿
The Cabin is a quiet, meditative little movie about identity, that has no reviews on line! Like Antonioni’s David Locke (in ’The Passanger’), a restless man from Luxembourg is trying to escape his life, and it’s not clear why. But instead of the Sahara desert, he drops off an Arctic cruise at the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, wishing to go further, to the edge of the world. There’s a cabin out in the wilderness he dreams about. But also a 7-year old daughter that he left behind, without any explanations. Enigmatic mystery that does not offer closure. 7/10.
🍿
Fucking Åmål, what it is like to be a teenager in a small Swedish town in the 1990s. A sweet budding romance between two awkward girls who feel they don’t belong.
"Varför måste vi bo i fucking jävla kuk-Åmål?" (Translation: “Why the hell do we have to live in fucking Åmål?”
🍿
The Gunfighter, mustachioed Gregory Peck as the notorious Jimmy Ringo, the "fastest gun in the West". Another tight, well-told western with 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Bonus: The gunfighter (2014), with Nick Offerman’s mellifluous voice breaking the Forth Wall - always good for a fun re-watch.
🍿
Timbuktu, my first award-winning masterpiece from Mauritania, by Malian film director Abderrahmane Sissako. Another harrowing story of terror in the barren Sahara desert. Senseless religious laws imposed by a patriarchal and fanatic group on simple villagers. A heart-breaking tragedy - 10/10.
Here’s the scene of the forbidden football match played with an imaginary ball.
🍿
After the difficult, depressing ‘Timbuktu’, I had to palate-cleanse into something more hopeful, so what’s better than Chaplin’s first full-feature, the uber-sentimental The Kid (whose name was - surprise! -’John’!). A perennial favorite, a perfect balance between comedy and drama, painfully autobiographical.
🍿
2 films about Catholic priests "molesting” children:
🍿 Deliver Us from Evil, a sad 2006 Oscar nominated documentary about one California priest who raped dozens of California kids, only to be protected by the monstrous Catholic church, as per their habit for thousands of years. A tedious narrative, well-known for decades, it follows one priest, one bishop and a couple of little girls. It gives the priest and his esteemed defenders a respectable deference, because - ‘religion’. It lets them uses passive-tense euphemisms in every sentence, even when acknowledging guilt: “The wrongs that may have happened”, “to whom I may have offended”, “I was not made aware at that particular time”.... - Utterly disgusting and hard to watch.
🍿 So I “had to” go back and watch Tom McCarthy’s Spotlight again which I saw many times, including last year. It’s a perfect ‘All the cardinal’s men’ story in every way, from every single cast member, to the Howard Shore score, to the way the story unfolds, and the investigation develops, to the emotional balance of each scene. NOT anti-Catholic, for sure. 10/10.
“If kids got raped by clowns as often as they get raped by priests, it would be against the law to take your kids to the circus”.
🍿
Living Is Easy with Eyes Closed, a sweet Spanish period piece about a 40-something, bald and bespectacled teacher who’s a die-hard Beatles-fan, and who drives to Almeria, hoping to meet John Lennon where they are shooting his 1966 ‘How I won the war’.
I couldn’t sit through Hamesh Patel’s ‘Yesterday’, and I haven’t seen any of the other fictionalized/Inspired-by Beatles Fan Movies, but this had just the right balance of gentleness and melancholy. 7/10.
🍿
2 more about L.A.:
🍿 How Movies Design Los Angeles (And Which One Got it Right), by Colombian José María Luna is a video essay of the kind I usually dislike, but it grew on me. Inspired by ‘Los Angeles Plays Itself‘ and peppered with quotes from Robert Moses and Jane Jacobs, it postulated that movies have always shown the past as LA's golden years. But it ends by finding in Spike Jonze’s ‘Her’ a positive vision of the city - Nostalgia of the future. 7/10.
It got me itching to re-watch many films I saw ('La la land’, A marriage story’, ‘Singing in the rain’, ‘L.A. Confidential’) and others I haven’t yet (’Boyz in the hood’, 'Babylon’).
🍿 And because of the clips with limo-driver Paul Giamatti, I tried on the sentimental Saving Mr. Banks, not usually my thing. The Disney entertainment machine working full-time to create the myth of Uncle Walt the deity, but the fictional daughter-father bonds worked on me. So 5/10.
🍿
Another random pick from the list of films with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, The Dog Who Wouldn't Be Quiet is a recent, strange film from Argentina. It tells of a random series of weird events in the life of some guy, from having his neighbors complain about his dog, to a meteor that poison the air above 4 feet. The guy soldiered on stoically through obstacles and hardships, but I didn’t get the point of the movie - 3/10.
🍿
Re-watch: The Tin Drum, the German adaptation of Günter Grass’s masterpiece. The Danzig trilogy won him the Nobel for literature, and this film won the Oscar in 1980. German history of the 20th century told in Magical Realistic style. I liked the book better.
🍿
'Chunky’, a terrific compilation of great dance moves from vintage movies, by awesome editor YouTuber ‘Trampsta’. More editing goodness by him on his channel.
🍿
Whats Buzzin Buzzard, a 1943 Tex Avery MGM cartoon about two turkey vultures, that deals with the then current food shortage.
🍿
2 films I couldn’t finish:
🍿 After watching the guy from ‘Great Art Explained’ channel talks about Georges Seurat’s A Sunday on La Grande Jatte, I thought I’ll try Ferris Bueller's Day Off. But I didn’t get to the scene where they visit the Art Institute in Chicago and see the artwork, as I had to bail after 20 minutes, I guess I’m just too old.
🍿 I also did try on a whim the new lightweight Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game, but it seemed like an irritating first film student effort where the only appeal is the main character’s GINORMOUS mustache. Not among the worst films I’ve ever seen, but I had to turn it off after 11 minutes.
🍿
Throw-back to the "Art project”:
Disney Adora.
Adora as The kid.
🍿
(My complete movie list is here)

WEEK 7: AMSTERDAM
Hallo everyone!! The end is so near, and I’m starting to feel very sentimental about leaving my host city of Prague. As our final trip together, my roomies and I headed to Amsterdam. I spent most of this past week in this amazing, vibrant, and perfect city, so this blog is dedicated to my experience in Amsterdam!!
With four Eurail pass days left, I made the (horrible but money-conscious) decision to train from Prague to Amsterdam. So 14 hours and 3 train transfers later, I arrived on Wednesday morning. Right off the bat, I was stunned by the layout of the city with rivers cutting through, the endless amount of bikers, the stylish fashion on the streets, and the diverse selection of restaurants and shops. I knew that biking was big in Amsterdam, but I was shocked to learn how bikeable the city was, with bike lanes existing on every street and the right-of-way favoring cyclists. Biking also cut our travel times to anywhere very significantly. From one place to another, walking might’ve taken around 30 minutes; tramming would be around 20 minutes; and biking was a pleasant 5 to 10 minutes.
On Wednesday, we explored the city and got our first taste of Amsterdam’s vibes. We went to Foodhallen Market for lunch, shopped around for a bit, and then chilled out in Vondelpark. Vondelpark is a picturesque and massive park that really exemplifies how lovely Amsterdam is. There were families playing games, couples enjoying picnics, ducks swimming in ponds, friends laughing and bathing in the sun. For dinner, we biked over to Linguini Jordaan for a delicious Italian meal.
We woke up early on Thursday morning to get bagels and iced matchas. There are so many cool museums in Amsterdam, and the first one we hit was the Rijksmuseum. The collections of Vermeer paintings, miniature dollhouses, realism works, and Asian art caught my eye. The highlighted Van Gogh exhibition was also a great prelude to our Van Gogh Museum visit the next day. After shopping until we dropped again and making a pit stop at the Albert Cuyp Market, our reservations to a French restaurant called our names. Fresh oysters, grilled asparagus, a lamb steak, and a few glasses of wine revived me before we biked over to the river for a boat cruise. Our canal ride gave us a tour of the city’s rich history and beautiful sunset views.
On Friday, we had another jam-packed day of more food, museums, and shopping. A huge highlight of this day was the Van Gogh Museum; it was probably one of the best art museums I’ve ever visited. Not only were his paintings beyond amazing, but the sheer volume of how many he painted in his lifetime, the layout of the whole museum, and the special exhibitions on display were just as impressive. Compared to the other cities that I’ve traveled to, Amsterdam easily takes the top spot for the most expensive place. In hindsight, I should’ve budgeted a little better for this trip, but I think that all the souvenirs, clothes, foods, and tickets that I bought here were well worth it. Checking my bank account on Friday hurt my soul a little, but it quickly passed with some Korean fried chicken and a loaded fruit bingsu dessert (this dinner satisfied my desperate cravings for Korean food).
We filled Saturday with a visit to the Anne Frank house, a 15+ mile bike ride through Amsterdam’s countryside, and an authentic Dutch dinner at ‘T Heemelrijck. The long bike ride allowed me to reconnect with nature and appreciate the beautiful scenery straight out of a storybook. It also gave me another reason to love Amsterdam: biking just 15 minutes outside of the city center takes you to a whole other world. On Sunday, I grabbed an Italian sandwich to prepare for my 20 hour trip back to Prague. One bus and two trains successfully brought me back at 5 AM Monday morning.
After spending five days in Amsterdam, I have come to the conclusion that I love this city so, so much. If I were to do another study abroad semester in the future (which is very likely), Amsterdam is definitely up there. Besides the high prices, I felt like the city was very liveable with lots of things to see and do. I would love to find myself in this city again, but for now, I will soak up the last bits of Prague for this final upcoming week!

How Much Does a Vape Cost? Unveiling the Mysteries of Vape Pricing
Vaping has taken the world by storm, and if you're considering joining the cloud-chasing, flavor-exploring community, you might be wondering, "How much does a vape cost?" Fear not, my friend! We're about to embark on a whimsical journey through the vast landscape of vape pricing. From the basic pen-style vapes to the luxurious mods that could rival a sports car in complexity, we'll break down the costs and help you find the perfect vape for your budget. Buckle up, it's going to be a fun ride! The Budget-Friendly Options: Pen-Style Vapes and Disposable E-Cigs For those who like to keep things simple and affordable, pen-style vapes and disposable e-cigarettes are your best bet. These handy devices are perfect for beginners and those who don’t want to break the bank. Pen-style vapes typically range from $15 to $30, making them an excellent choice for vaping newcomers. They’re easy to use, portable, and come in various designs to suit your style. Disposable e-cigs, on the other hand, are the fast food of the vaping world. They cost about $5 to $10 per unit and are perfect for those who prefer a no-fuss, throw-away experience. However, if you find yourself puffing away more frequently, the costs can add up quickly, much like a daily coffee habit at your local café. Now, while these budget-friendly options are great for testing the waters, they might not offer the most flavorful or customizable experience. But hey, they do the job and keep your wallet happy! Mid-Range Marvels: Pod Systems and Vape Pens Stepping up your game a bit? Mid-range pod systems and vape pens are where the magic happens. These devices offer a balance between affordability and a satisfying vaping experience. Pod systems, which typically cost between $30 and $50, are the darling of many vapers. They’re compact, user-friendly, and provide a decent amount of vapor and flavor. Pods are refillable, which means you can experiment with different e-liquids without having to buy a new device every time. It's like having a mini flavor lab in your pocket! Vape pens in the mid-range category, priced around $40 to $70, offer more power and customization options. They’re perfect for those who want a bit more control over their vaping experience without diving into the complexities of advanced mods. These devices often come with adjustable settings, allowing you to tweak your vapor production and flavor intensity. It’s like moving from a basic bike to a shiny new scooter—more fun, more features, but still manageable! High-End Wonders: Box Mods and Advanced Vaping Kits For the true vaping connoisseurs, high-end box mods and advanced vaping kits are the way to go. These devices are the Ferraris of the vaping world, offering top-notch performance, customization, and a price tag to match. Box mods can range anywhere from $70 to $150, and sometimes even higher. These devices come with a plethora of features—adjustable wattage, temperature control, and customizable settings that let you fine-tune every aspect of your vaping experience. If you love gadgets and enjoy tinkering with settings, a box mod is your new best friend. Think of it as building your own vape spaceship, where you control every button and dial. Advanced vaping kits, which can cost upwards of $100 to $200, often include everything you need to get started, from high-quality mods to premium tanks and coils. These kits are perfect for those who want the best of the best and are willing to invest in their hobby. It’s like upgrading from a cozy sedan to a high-performance sports car—sleek, powerful, and oh-so-satisfying. The Hidden Costs: E-Liquids, Coils, and Accessories Ah, but wait! Before you run off to buy your shiny new vape device, let's talk about the hidden costs. Because just like owning a car, vaping comes with ongoing expenses that you need to budget for. E-liquids, the delightful flavors that make vaping so enjoyable, can cost anywhere from $10 to $30 per bottle, depending on the brand and quality. If you’re a frequent vaper, you might find yourself going through a couple of bottles a month. But don’t fret—many brands offer deals and subscriptions to keep your costs down and your vape clouds thick. Coils, the tiny but mighty components that heat your e-liquid, need to be replaced regularly. Depending on the type of coil and how often you vape, you might spend $10 to $20 on a pack of coils each month. And let’s not forget about accessories—extra batteries, chargers, and fancy drip tips can add a few more dollars to your vaping budget. Conclusion Vaping costs can vary widely depending on the type of device and the level of customization you desire. From budget-friendly options like pen-style vapes and disposable e-cigarettes, which range from $5 to $30, to mid-range pod systems and vape pens priced between $30 and $70, there's something for every budget. For those seeking high-end experiences, advanced box mods and vaping kits can cost between $70 and $200. Additionally, it's essential to consider the ongoing expenses of e-liquids, coils, and accessories, which can add up over time. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the costs associated with vaping, helping you make an informed decision based on your preferences and budget. FAQs 1. What is the average cost of a basic vape pen? A basic vape pen typically costs between $15 and $30. These devices are perfect for beginners due to their affordability and ease of use. They come in various designs and offer a simple, portable vaping experience without breaking the bank. 3. How much does a high-end vape mod cost? High-end vape mods can range from $70 to $150, with some premium models costing even more. These devices offer advanced features such as adjustable wattage, temperature control, and customizable settings, providing an enhanced vaping experience for enthusiasts who enjoy fine-tuning their setups. 3. What are the ongoing costs of vaping? The ongoing costs of vaping include purchasing e-liquids, which typically range from $10 to $30 per bottle, and replacing coils, which can cost $10 to $20 per pack monthly. Additionally, you may need to buy accessories like extra batteries and chargers, which can add to your overall vaping expenses. 4. Are disposable e-cigarettes cheaper than reusable vapes? While disposable e-cigarettes cost between $5 and $10 per unit and are convenient for occasional use, they can become more expensive over time if you vape frequently. Reusable vapes, although initially more costly, can be more economical in the long run, especially if you refill with e-liquids and replace coils as needed. 5. What factors should I consider when choosing a vape? When choosing a vape, consider your budget, vaping experience, and preferences for customization. Budget-friendly options like pen-style vapes and disposables are great for beginners, while mid-range pod systems and vape pens offer a balance of cost and features. High-end mods are ideal for those who want advanced settings and a highly customizable vaping experience. Additionally, factor in the ongoing costs of e-liquids, coils, and accessories. But we have some other things happening here they're pretty big
-there is a severe warlock reaction globally to their lack of ability in space they are getting hit in a snow at three to one against them and they're very upset and they did not listen to the warnings and their own bosses were trying to say it no their bosses were ordering it and say are incompetent most of them. So what can you do if you don't have it and you have to.
-there's a huge number of people in Florida who have solar power and I think they're all set and yeah they're doing pretty good but there is a lot of fighting over it because they use it for stuff
-we have a few moments we are working on the economy yes it is up we are at 3300% above just before covid-19. It's a decent spot though people should feel a little better if they're not directly involved in this big huge battles and there are jobs out there and you're becoming more plentiful people are being able to pay for things and pay down debt if it's not forgiven a lot of debt is forgiven and there's a lot of crisis management that went on and they're forgiving debt to but the economy is picking up pulling and busy accessories between less expensive we have huge factories coming online today globally a lot of it is because of the need for armament by groups that are running out of things like spaceships and they need to work for us and they should have been doing it but failed in the face of the Max and the clones. The percent factories today it will be around 250% and tomorrow 250% more devastating and it will be an addition of 500% so bring us to 3800%, it's very good.
-the housing market bubble finally burst and housing starts are up and they're up to an incredible number today they reached about 70% increase from just before covid-19. And that is a permit supplied for and usually they go through. And that is for houses apartments condominiums. Also there are about 5000 permit applications it actually in Florida for mobile home parks unfortunately they're not getting any here no we are it's the pseudo empire and they like the idea and they have a whole bunch of them who can build these things and they fill them they're in a tent and they build them there then they go into the place and they're going to have their own and they're going to build it right on site this is a huge huge movement and more I can do in the same thing all over the world but they're doing it in their areas it's begun and these parks are pretty big they probably have six or seven thousand mobile homes and most of them will be this new wood frame glued together and we'll be able to resist very powerful winds that's up to 300 mph and you don't encounter those ones at all and usually they do better mostly tied down and they encourage each other to this is going to be incredible that's a lot of housing and the cities are increasing and it's in the number already but they have high rise condominiums and apartments going in actually they will increase that number probably a lot because of the capacity but those permits have not been applied for yet they're in planning it will go up about 10 to 15% just with the condos in apartments high-rise lowrides will bring it up 2 to 3% and but that's just the first wave and we're going to publish this is huge

Notes:
Only Old Joe and Old Coach did the cool down.
Caleb G who recently sold CFEN visited the Barn today. I wish more of you could have been here to meet him. There is a reason why a person is able to develop a sought after Coaching/CrossFit training facility in such a short time. Some of the worlds fittest Crossfit athletes trained there. Caleb is working on getting a new Box set up just North of Franklin, and since he and Kati and kids live not too far from here, maybe we can lure him to come to the Barn for a while.
Timmy pointed out that I failed to get Caleb to do the waiver, and I didn't give him the traditional complimentary LHCF T-Shirt. I'm a total failure.
Miss Linda tried mightily to fill in for all the absent girls who usually feed us on wine/snack Thursday. She produced meatballs, a dip, cheeses, pigs in a blanket (Herbs Favorite) and other fine stuff . We had a few white/Rose' wines, and 3 reds. Much was left over....both food and drink. It was miserably hot even tho' we drug 2 more fans down near the picnic table. These may be the last really hot days of summer.
Robert and Shane apparently bought and installed 2 new time clocks at the Barn today. Naturally, they are the biggest and most expensive clocks available. I completely botched up the workout when I didn't know the new clock technology and started the three clocks (1 old) barely within 3 minutes of each other. Much ridicule.
Robert and Shane (currently escaping to Ireland) are the same 2 gentlemen who are primary investors in a lithium battery company. They will be making "Forever Batteries" that will power cars , trucks, and buses for at least 1000 miles. The vehicles will all have solar panels on their roofs and will never need to plug in to the grid. Soon the lithium will be replaced with a sea-water electrolyte. The cars will go zero to 60 in less than 1 second, never need any maintenance except a sea-water top-up (urine will work in a pinch), and will be free after a government rebate.
Saturday at 0730 and at 0930.

Norway Fjords Road Trip (1 of 3)
View along the Trolltunga Hike
Overview
Norway is one of the most beautiful places we have visited. A big reason we wanted to visit is that we loved New Zealand and heard that Norway’s scenery is similar – it did not disappoint.
We did a 10-day road trip that included hiking, biking, and kayaking through western Norway and if anything, our key insight was that you don’t have to go to specific tourist spots to see the country’s beauty; there is striking beauty nearly everywhere. Every drive we took was incredibly scenic, and the most touristy areas (like Flam or Trollstigen) were no more beautiful than random fjord towns, mountains, and glaciers we drove by (especially the drive from Fjaerland to Geiranger!).
What we loved:
Really beautiful scenery
It’s a very high-functioning society with an excellent quality of life. Basic things that should be automated in the 21st century actually are automated, like public restroom toilets and faucets or paying for parking and tolls. Simple safeguards are put in place, like high fines for speeding (probably not a coincidence that we hardly saw any crazy drivers), a reflective safety vest in the glove compartment of every rental car, and even a handwashing sink at the entrance to at least one grocery store we visited. The whole society seems designed for practicality and ease, even in the smallest ways (e.g., single-serve yogurts at the supermarket always come with a spoon attached in the packaging. Not a plastic spoon, but a wooden one). As a result, everything feels more orderly and a little easier to navigate. It feels like the social contract is more intact in Norway than in most other countries we’ve spent time in – we didn’t see any obvious poverty (unsurprising given they have a strong social safety net), waiters don’t rely on tips to make ends meet, etc. We were impressed all around.
What we found challenging:
It’s one of the most expensive places in the world. Restaurant prices are like eating out in Manhattan (but the food isn’t necessarily as good). Hotels (quality-adjusted) are even more expensive!
There is more of a language barrier than we expected. Most signage is in Norwegian and people default to communicating in Norwegian. As a result, restaurant menus were sometimes a challenge, as was signage at some tourist attractions. While most people seemed to also speak English, sometimes they didn’t seem to understand us or be able to respond in English.
Vegetarian food options were not great. We ate a LOT of sandwiches that we made ourselves and we were very glad we brought protein bars and protein powder packets to stay well nourished (especially while hiking).
We loved Norway and would be delighted to return, especially given its relative proximity to New York. That said, it is worth noting that New Zealand shares similar advantages without the disadvantages we noted for Norway (though perhaps its disadvantage is that it is very far away!). I’m not sure Norway has displaced New Zealand as my favorite place that I have visited, but it is very high on the list.
Itinerary
Our 10-day road trip mostly followed Earthtrekkers’ Norway fjords itinerary from 2013. This is the first in a series of blog posts detailing our travels. My hope is these details can help anyone who visits these places to have as seamless a trip as possible.
Part I: Stavanger
Stavanger city center
Stavanger is a city in southwestern Norway that is a good landing spot for a couple of well-touristed hikes: Pulpit Rock (Priekestolen), Kjeragbolten, and Florli 4444. The main fjord accessible from here is called Lyseford. We did the first two hikes and saw Lysefjord from the top of Pulpit Rock. Overall, we thought Stavanger and the surrounding area were nice, but after subsequently seeing other parts of western Norway that really blew us away, we think this area could potentially be skipped.
We flew into Stavanger (via a couple hour layover in Oslo). It was easy to pick up a rental car – we used Hertz – and took 25-30 mins to drive to our hotel in the city center.
Day 1 - Pulpit Rock (Priekestolen)
View of the “pulpit” over Lysefjord
This is one of Norway’s most popular hikes. We did this hike first thing after arriving from a redeye and dropping our stuff off at our hotel. On just a few hours of sleep, and with a very hot sun overhead when we started around 3:30PM, we found it to be quite tiring, but very pretty. The trail is just under 5 miles out and back and is rated Moderate – it would potentially be considered Moderate/Hard in the U.S., but this is Europe after all, and people of all ages were doing the hike. It starts off very steep - hiking sticks would be helpful – and gets easier after the first 1-1.5 km. Overall it took us 2.5 hours + a 15 min break at the top.
Hanging out at the top of the hike
There isn’t much of a view for most of the hike, but at the top you’re on a cliff with a lovely view of the Lyseford down below. It’s not the most special hike we’ve ever done, but it was nice.
More views from the top
Logistics
Getting there: We drove ~40 mins to this hike via the fancy new Ryfylke Tunnel, a very long tunnel that looks like a cave inside and for some reason has colorful uplighting in various places. The toll was something super expensive – Hertz automatically added it to our car rental bill so we didn’t need to stop and pay (this was the case for all toll roads we drove on in Norway, and there ended up being a ton that we didn’t even know about until we saw the Hertz bill).
Parking: Parking is NOK 200 (~$20) per car. We got there around 3:15PM on a Friday and there were plenty of parking spots.
Restrooms: Restrooms are in the parking lot and were clean.
Day 2 - Kjeragbolten
Kjeragbolten is the hike to Norway’s iconic boulder between two rocks.
It’s a 10 km / 6 miles out-and-back hike (5 km / 3 miles each way) that is European strenuous (as opposed to American “strenuous”) – it is really hard! The terrain is rocky the entire way, unlike any other hike we can remember, and there are many parts where you’re going almost straight uphill or straight downhill, with long stretches that have chains to hold on to so you don’t just slide down the face of the rock. It’s a difficult hike not just because of how steep it is, but also because there are plenty of opportunities to lose your footing.
Pretending I’m not crying inside at the steep rocky parts with chains (the photo does not do the steepness justice)
If you’ve done the Beehive Trail at Acadia National Park or Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, the steepness of Kjeragbolten and the corresponding necessity of the chains feels 100x. The number of times I saw the chains and thought, “that’s excessive/unnecessary” was 0. We were very glad we brought hiking sticks. We saw very few children on this hike.
There is no shade anywhere on the trail. For us the weather was extremely sunny and hot the entire time (10am-2:30pm, including ~30 mins to eat lunch and relax a bit at the top). This made the hike even harder.
The views are pretty out-of-this-world: stark mountains, some with snow still on them, and water views including lakes and fjord. We haven’t seen a lot of hikes that look like this. Earthtrekkers wrote that this is their favorite hike in the world. We liked it, but can’t say it outranks some of our all-time favorites like Tongariro National Crossing or Roy’s Peak in New Zealand, or Trolltunga and Romsdalseggen which are also in Norway. All of those hikes are pretty challenging, but for me Kjeragbolten was the hardest (well, maybe next to Romsdalseggen). Overall it took us 4 hours + ~30 mins for lunch.
There was still quite a bit of the snow on the ground, some of which we walked through along the trail.
Logistics
Getting there: Drive 2.5 hours (each way) from Stavanger to Kjeragbolten (we just typed Kjeragbolten into Google Maps). The drive starts on a highway and then you turn onto some back roads that go by beautiful lakes/fjords. Finally you drive ~25 km up an extremely narrow and winding road – it looks like it is one-way, but it’s not, so drive carefully! – with gorgeous views to the start of the hike.
Parking lot: We read online that there are 400 parking spots, though it didn’t look like that many in person. There were plenty of open spots when we arrived on a Saturday at 10am, and also when we left around 3pm, which we thought was a bit surprising for such a well-known hike. The cost is NOK 300 (~$30) per car and you can pay by credit card at a parking machine upon arrival; make sure to put the parking voucher on your dashboard.
Restrooms: The restrooms are at the parking lot. There were several stalls and it was clean. We did not see any bathrooms during the hike, and it’s very open so there weren’t really places to go along the trail.
Day 3 - Walking in the ‘burbs
We were feeling tired and lazy after Kjeragbolten. Instead of following our original plan of hiking Florli 4444 – a hike in the town of Florli, along the Lysefjord, that entails going up >4,444 steps (!) – we slept in, got brunch, napped, and did a ~5-mile walk around Stokkavetnet, a very nice lake just a few minutes’ drive outside of Stavanger city center. It reminded us a bit of Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park (minus the mountains) – we saw horses, deer, a golf course, kayaking, and lots of people swimming, biking, and jogging. It was really nice to see a less touristy side of Stavanger, and it reinforced our perception that locals can enjoy a really nice quality of life.
Note: If you do want to hike Florli 4444, you can take the Kolumbus Ferry from Lauvvik (a ~40 min drive from Stavanger) to Florli for ~$14 per person roundtrip. Tickets can be booked online; when we looked the night before we intended to go, the ferry was sold out. You can also book an excursion directly from Stavanger via gofjords.com (which was also sold out) or via Rodne tours which was charging ~$80 per person roundtrip. Given the number of stairs involved, we do not regret skipping this hike.
Stavanger: Things to Know
It seems to be pronounced like “stuh-VAHN-gur”
There are so many roundabouts! We didn’t encounter a single traffic light in the town or on any of our drives to hikes in the area.
The downtown has lots of places to eat, including the best vegetarian options we were able to find during our Norway trip. We liked Mogul India – the bhindi (okra), palak paneer (cottage cheese in spinach), and sabudana vada (sago fritter) were great – and Wanna Thai was also pretty good – we were fans of the massaman curry with tofu. There was a vegan Vietnamese place (Chay Vegan) that we were interested in but never had a chance to try.
Downtown also has multiple supermarkets if you want to pack sandwich materials for lunches, etc.
There are quite a few hotels downtown. We stayed at the Radisson Blu and it was fine, though nothing special for how expensive it was – clean and comfortable enough, Manhattan-sized hotel rooms (i.e., very small, which we came to learn is common across Norway).
All parking in the town is public (and I think free?). We parked at the Olav Parking Garage just around the corner from our hotel.
The town is very touristy. The hikes were full of people speaking Russian and Spanish, and occasionally some other languages, and the main strip downtown was packed with what appeared to be tourists from a cruise ship docked along the water.
Look out for the next posts covering the remainder of our Norway travels!

Top 10 Most Expensive Bikes in The World | Shifu Digital
We'll speak about the top ten most expensive bikes in the world in this video. Before you begin watching this video, please like it and subscribe to this channel for future updates. One Facebook post reads, "Asking someone else to drive your beast is like asking someone else to kiss your sweetheart!" The guys' passion for motorcycles is undeniable. The lads' love of motorbikes is unmistakable. In the Indian market, there is a growing section that invests in monsters to refine or relive the desire of men for bicycling. Let’s start.
Number 10. Hildebrand Wolfmüller. Hildebrand and Wolf Müller's first motorcycle is one of the world's most costly bikes. They have a lengthy and illustrious past. Heinrich and Wilhelm Hildebrand, the company's founders, were steam-engine engineers before teaming together to develop an internal combustion engine.
Number 9. Suzuki AEM Carbon Fiber Hayabusa. I'm sure we all had images of a Suzuki Hayabusa on our walls when we were kids. Because that was the pinnacle of cool at the time. It is still the bike of choice among the trendy and wealthy today.
Number 8. Ecosse FE Ti XX. Ecosse Moto Works is recognized for producing high-end motorcycles, and the Ecosse FE Ti XX is one of the Titanium Series' newest and most expensive versions. The motorcycle costs $3 lakh or approximately 1.64 core in Indian rupees.
Number 7. Harley-Davidson Cosmic Starship. The name of this bike accurately conveys the fact that it is completely out of this world. In the same manner that a motorcycle is a work of art, the Cosmic Starship is. Behind all the glitter is an $18,000 Harley-Davidson V-Rod with a 1.25L, 120-horsepower engine.
Number 6. Dodge Tomahawk V10 Superbike. If you believe the Dodge Tomahawk V10 Superbike looks suspiciously like a 4-wheel Dodge pushed on both sides, you're not alone. This Tomahawk V10 Superbike is a strange beast, and not only because it's powered by a V10 four-stroke Dodge Viper engine that can power any chassis with more than two wheels, giving you the sensation of being pulled by a fleet of 500 supercharged horses ready to assault the Bastille. When it comes to the spirits of two-wheeled steeds, that's exactly what I'm talking about!
Number 5. BMS Nemesis. The yellow glitter and absence of side support give the BMS Nemesis the impression of a marooned whale laying flat on its underbelly. The golden glitter comes from the 24-karat gold. This explains the $3 million price tag, and no one would blame you if you didn't want it out of your house right now. You'd probably want a showroom erected in front of the home, elevated to a spectacular height so that everyone can see your greatest asset. Make the showroom big enough for the Nemesis to move around in for even more fun.
Number 4. Hildebrand & Wolf Muller. Your $3.5 million investment would take you 124 years back to 1894 when the first production motorbike was introduced. Heinrich and Wilhelm Hildebrand were steam-engine engineers before collaborating with Aloes Wolf Müller in Munich in 1894 to create the internal combustion engine.
Number 3. Ecosse ES1 Spirit. Something is wrong when a bike company requires even a professional driver to undergo a two-week training program before riding one of their models. Why not, after all? This is not a two-wheeler in the traditional sense: for starters, there is no chassis. The engine is linked to the front suspension, while the gearbox is attached to the swingarm and rear suspension.
Number 2. 1949 E90 AJS Porcupine. Due to financial constraints, AJS, a bike company with a lengthy history and a strong racetrack reputation, was only able to produce four Porcupine units in 1949. Under the skilled guidance of Les Graham, one of these went on to win the 1949 World Championship.
Number 1. Neiman Marcus Limited Edition Fighter. The Limited Edition Fighter from Neiman Marcus is a steampunk triumph! For the first time, that's it. Let's get into the details now.
