Hi! I saw on one of your posts you said that you used to be a stucky shipper. I actually started off as a stony shipper but then absolutely fell in love with stucky but I like both . I was just wondering what made you "jump ship" on stucky lol. Sorry if this comes across as annoying or anything im just curious!
Hey! As you can see a couple of people have asked me this over the last couple of weeks and I’m really lazy and haven’t got around to responding yet, but the people deserve an answer so here we go. Before we start a quick disclaimer: I’ll only be talking about the ships themselves, not the communities or any of the discourse surrounding them. This is not a ship-bashing of any kind and please do not take it as such, it’s just my own personal experience surrounding these characters and these relationships.
Buckle your seatbelts kids, this is a long one.
I first got into Marvel c. 2015. I’m European so I’d never really watched any marvel movies before that, I watched Age of Ultron on a plane and remember being vaguely aware the Steve/Tony was a thing (what is pretty interesting is that to this day I have no clue where that knowledge came from) but was mostly just excited by the superhero stuff. I then got home and watched The Winter Soldier and fell in love. I love the Winter Soldier, it’s probably still one of my favourite marvel movies (it got kicked out of its top spot by Black Panther last year unfortunately) and to me no other marvel movie could hold a torch to it at the time. So I came onto tumblr, searched up The Winter Soldier and was just inundated with Stucky stuff, as expected. I rolled with it, got invested just from constant exposure (it was also around the height of the Stucky ship) and as far as I was concerned, that was that. I was super into Stucky for almost six months and was pretty much your average shipper, I didn’t understand stevetony, loved Steve Rogers, was close to creating a Stucky sideblog wit some ridiculous pun as my username, I was gone over this ship.
Then one day, I sat down and read the man on the bridge by boopboop on ao3. You’ve almost definitely heard of it, but it was the most popular fic in the Steve/Bucky tag on ao3 at the time (for some reason I had just never got around to reading it until then, it was long and I didn’t have the stamina I have now). It was your pretty standard Stucky fic, Steve gets Bucky back, they have to deal with his trauma which results in Steve and Bucky declaring their long lost love for each other etc. etc. What was different about this fic, was that it was all told from Tony’s point of view, and since Steve and Tony were on the same team at that point, their dynamic was a huge part of the fic. And I found myself falling completely in love with Steve and Tony’s dynamic. I went back to the fic for this post (and god it is a good fic) and pulled up the first couple of chapters and instantly just found so many instances of that dynamic
(grade A stevetony arguing over each other’s safety with a side of flirting from Tony)
(Idk why but the image of Steve and Tony not going to sleep, but rather staying up and brewing coffee together was such a vivid one when I first read this fic, I still remember it to this day. )
(Tony picking Steve flowers while trying to desperately play off that he didn’t aka. Tony caring while trying desperately not to care)
(Everyone knowing that Steve would definitely come to Tony, apart from Tony himself.)
Now obviously, this is a stucky fic and I went into it knowing this, but I found when Steve and Bucky finally got together I felt honestly a bit bored, a bit cheated. I had no idea why at the time. I remember very clearly x-ing out of the fic at the end and feeling really uneasy, I came onto tumblr, went straight back into the Stucky tag and all was well.
When I next went back onto ao3, I started out with a couple of oneshots in the Stucky tag, but for some reason it wasn’t working for me anymore. I remember sitting there, a little bored, not at all invested in this relationship and just missing something. I figured I was probably missing Tony’s presence in the fic and so filtered in Tony Stark’s character tag. I read a few of those and all was well but I realised the same thing was happening as had happened in man on the bridge, the moment that Steve and Bucky got together, the fic lost something for me. Desperate at this point, and a little annoyed at myself I conducted an experiment and went into the Steve/Tony tag on Ao3 and as they say, the rest is history. If you go onto older posts on my main blog there’s a pretty drastic, almost overnight shift c. January 2016. I have to admit, I expected Civil War to be a conversion so I enjoyed stevetony without consequence for five months, while still labelling myself as a Stucky shipper because I expected to be pulled back to Stucky after civil war, the reality was that somehow I came out of civil war shipping stevetony harder than ever before. From there, I spent two years reading my way through the stevetony tag on ao3 and finally set up this blog in 2018, with a really obscure reference as my username and it’s been stevetony til I die ever since.
I just couldn’t read Stucky anymore. That’s what I mean when I say on this blog that stevetony has ruined me for every other ship, because it has. Steve and Tony’s firecracker dynamic pulled me away from what was fast on its way to becoming my favourite ship in 2015, all because they had a bit of banter on the side in a fic. It’s kind of depressing really, the sort of hold that Steve and Tony’s dynamic has over me,
It’s strange you say you fell in love with Stucky, I fell absolutely out of love with it. I have thought a lot about how I ended up falling into stevetony and why I was so drawn to them instead of Stucky in the first place and I think it all comes down the the story itself. To me, Steve and Bucky’s relationship carries much more weight as a friendship, I still have no doubt that Bucky is one of if not the most important person in Steve’s life, but having that be a lifelong friendship is way more powerful and impactful to me, (especially since what I know I misconstrued to be Steve’s obsession with Bucky is actually Steve’s obsession over the past. I’m not saying Bucky isn’t dear to Steve and he does want to obviously rescue him, but looking back on it there’s more to Steve’s obsession with Bucky than just love, it’s a fear of change and it’s him desperately trying to hold onto a past that’s gone.)
Conversely, I feel like adding a romantic element to Steve and Tony’s relationship enriches the story being told, if you look at something like civil war (either MCU or 616 tbh) in the context of Tony being desperately in love with Steve, it makes a lot more sense, especially with things like The Confession in 616 or the stuff brought up in that strange conversation in the conference room in the MCU. There’s lines from Steve like “I’m home/you gave me a home” or even straight up “he loved you” and his tormented behaviour throughout infinity war and endgame that just really makes you wonder, not to mention lines from others like “you two still gazing into each other’s eyes/sounds like both of you got into bed with the wrong people” and they did have to share a bed at Clint’s farm after all lol. The tragedy of their story is heightened if you look at it through the context of them being absolutely in love with each other, just never having actually got around to telling it to each other’s faces. This tragedy is heavily implied in The Oath/The Confession in 616 when they confess their deepest darkest secrets to the other’s comatose/dead bodies, and apparently it’s always been that they love the other person. Actually you could easily introduce a romantic element by making relatively few changes to the MCU, but that’s a post for another time (I have a long and comprehensive list in my notes app on how little you actually need to change to make that happen, it’s literally the matter of a few lines of dialogue and one major story change at the end of IM3, an interesting thought exercise to say the least).
Finally, there’s a quote that came up on my dash the day I made that fateful venture into the ao3 stevetony tag, “your soulmate isn’t someone who comes peacefully into your life. It is someone who makes you question things, changed your reality, somebody that marks a before and after in your life. It is not the human being everyone idealized, but an ordinary person, who managed to revolutionize your world in a second” to this day, it resonates so strongly with me about stevetony. It’s everything I love about this ship just compressed into a quote.
So yeah it was basically a bunch of happy coincidences, but thank god it happened. As a writer, stevetony has taught me so much about character and dynamic, stuff that is honestly invaluable. When you have long fics that basically detail the day by day life of Steve and Tony post-civil war in rural Italy and consists of them sleeping, crying and working through their repressed feelings (looking at you @silkspectred ), it is the characters and their unique dynamic that drive the entirety of the story. Steve and Tony, in the hands of a compelling writer, can keep me hooked over a frankly embarrassing number of words. I still have a bit of a special place for Stucky in my heart really, it did start me out in marvel after all and it was one of my first ever ships, but your first love is only so good until you meet your true love, not to get all sappy but stevetony has completely destroyed my ability to ship anything else. I might get a bit flirtatious with some other ships, like sambucky (I still love Bucky, and I love Sam!), or the riverdale ships (beronica and jarchie or bust), or even the game of thrones crack ships (daensa til the day we die), but I’ll always come back to stevetony.
So yeah this escalated into a far longer post than I intended to make but I’ve never really spelled out on this blog how or why I ended up jumping Stucky to Stony when I know it’s usually the other way around. I guess it just comes down to stevetony catching me out when I least expected it, and never having let go of me since.
#this is amazing I had a similar journey#I saw CATWS and was absolutely amazed#loved Buckys character and Steves whole story arc#soon after I went looking for fic about them#I started reading a few fics but I could never finish them#nothing to do with the writing#the fics themselves were beautiful and well written#I just couldn't get invested for some reason#so within the week I stopped trying#at this point I wouldn't have called myself a Marvel fan tho#apart from IM 1 and CATFA I hadn't seen any other movies prior#I saw CATWS around the end of 2015#I got curious and watched all of the other ones that were out (okay most)#by the time I got to AOU I was riveted to Steves and Tonys dynamic#I didnt see it as a ship then#I didn't realize when both were on screen was when I was the most excited#I knew if both were talking to each other#in the others space#it would be good#SOMETHING would happen something between them would just spark#start something in motion#they moved the narrative for me#a few months later I went to see CACW in theaters and was just#so impacted#I never would have thought their relationship would be on display like that#be the center of a movie my god#before this I had loved Steve already and his whole story arc like I said#related to him on some things#Tony tho? Mal I can’t believe you like stony I trusted you sigh…
anon....why you not like stony? 🥺 ((are you a stucky shipper?)) jkjk...unless...?
If you actually wanna know tho...
...it's simply the most compelling, contrasting, fraught, potential-filled relationship ever written/depicted (i wish i was exaggerating).
I'm ngl, I typed this whole thing and then it got deleted. So I might not be able to fully do this a second time smh. But here we go.
Whenever i was bored/in the depths of my stony/marvel obsession, I would make a list in my head of all the reasons Steve and Tony were perfect for one another in case anyone disagreed with me. I don't think I can remember all the reasons, but I'm gonna do my best (this mostly addresses their MCU depictions, since that's what I know best):
Their personalities are so complementary- steve is the more heart-on-his-sleeve, honest, dependable, disciplined, noble, street-smart, but also a bit naive, idealist and tony is the cynical, issues-with-authority, arrogant, sarcastic, hard-outer-shell, booksmart, realist. They're sooo different from one another, but at their core, they both want to make the world a better place and they both place more importance on others' lives over their own, altho their motivations come from diff places. It's hard for them to see that at first though bc they're both so stubborn and judge one another on superficial things. But when they do recognize it, they have so much respect for one another.
The age difference.............is hot! And here's why: you can make a case that either of them is actually older than the other... (iykyk) Tony has been awake & aging longer, but Steve was born in the 40s so... who really knows!?
Height difference.
Sexual experience difference (tony -> playboy, steve -> virgin??)
The banter. The Banter!!!
They both have daddy issues. Shared trauma, but also separate traumas that they can help each other through
And along with the daddy thing is the fact that Steve knew Tony's father?? And that Howard helped create/provide Steve's iconic shield? It factors into the daddy issues and the assumptions they make about one another bc Steve expects Tony to be like Howard and Tony resents Steve for the way Howard idolized Steve/Cap.
Steve's shield is vibranium and Tony's arc reactor is powered by vibranium. Idk, that shit is just poetic.
"Big man in a suit of armor. Take that off, what are you?" "Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist." "I know guys with none of that worth ten of you... The only thing you really fight for is yourself. You're not the guy to make the sacrifice play - to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you." "I think I would just cut the wire." "Always a way out. You know you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero." "A hero? Like you? You're a laboratory experiment, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle."
(^NO ONE riles steve or tony up more, and what is that if not sexual tension, i mean...??)
Their nickname game is so strong - Tony is always nicknaming Cap, which is a sign of affection from him (Rhodey, Pep, Happy). Also in the 616 universe, I think they called each other Winghead and Shellhead which ?!?! so cute.
There's a literal universe of comics where steve and a female version of tony/iron man are in love and get married...
"Mr. Rogers, I almost forgot - that suit did nothing for your ass."
Stony has some of the best fan fiction i've EVER read. I want some of those fics inscribed on my tombstone actually (not sorry)
Aaaaand I'm losing steam (especially after typing this a second time lmao). But all of this to say, I used to be a stucky shipper (as evidenced by my ao3 works), but then The Avengers (2012) came out and changed everything for me. There's just something about stony - the equal potential for them to destroy one another/complete one another - that is just... 🤌🏻 There's passion there.
Superhusbands!!! 😍
#WELL!#this could possibly be considered a *rant* but all my stony feels flooded back in#i was seriously immersed in marvel before i got into hockey and then f1 lmao#honestly this has me questioning Your judgment anon...#jk but also not#anon#ask#not f1#stony

I had an idea for a possible young avengers’ storyline in the MCU. So I decided to post it here. I know nobody asked for it, and most likely nobody will read it. But I wanted to post it somewhere, so who cares?
This is an idea based on what we already know is gonna happen in the MCU as well as some speculations.
Now these are just a bunch of ideas that I think would be interesting to see happen in the MCU for the YA. I have no idea if anything like this is gonna happen. At all.
First, I would like to point out that I am a huge YA fan. They were my first superhero comic ever. So, I would love for the MCU to adapt them as close to the source as possible. But I know that is not happening. So, let´s move on to the “plot”.
So, for starters, let´s answer the biggest YA question right now. Iron Lad. I think we aren´t getting Nate Richards as Iron Lad. Rather, I believe we are getting Harley Keener as Iron Lad. Now I could be wrong, and all this would be useless, but I don´t think Marvel would do such a complicated time travel storyline like Nate´s. Add to that Harley´s appearance on Tony´s funeral, and I think he will most likely will become Iron Lad.
The other option would be for Ironheart to take his place. And nobody really wants that to happen. It would be dumb and insulting. So, between no Ironheart, and Harley as Iron Lad, (knowing he has no personality yet, and therefore can be given Nate´s personality), the only option to take is the second one.
With that in mind, here is how I would turn Herley into Iron lad:
1) Give him Nate´s personality, trading his obsession with time travel, for science.
2) Make him responsible for the first big YA villain. Which one? Ultron. More specifically, his return with a new body.
How Harley would make that? Well let´s return to infinity war for that. We know Shuri downloaded most of Vision during the movie. I think it would be interesting if Tony salvaged what she did download of him, and rebuild Vision, as an AI, without his emotions. At this point, I think it would be interesting if Harley was on an internship on Stark industries. Like the one Peter said he had, except a real internship. We know Tony pushed himself away from most of the world between IW and Endgame. But what if Harley was the exception? Tony set up his internship so that Harley could have a good future, and kept watch over him. That would explain his presence in the funeral. Even if he was far from Tony, they kept a connection through science.
Now, let´s move to Endgame. If Tony rebuild Vision, why was he using FRIDAY? Simple, he wasn´t done yet. Maybe he had just finished it and didn´t have time to start it. Or maybe he didn´t even finish rebuilding Vision, Harley did it.
Now, where is Vision then? I think it would be interesting to contrast Harley to Peter Parker here. While Peter is Tony´s legacy on superheroics, I think Marvel should make Harley Tony´s legacy in science. And that is why I think Tony could have given Vision to Harley. And contrasting Peter to Harley, gave the latter access to Stark Industries scientific/information resources, while Peter got more access to resources that could be used for superheroics. Now, I know MCU Peter is a scientist too, but differently from comic´s Peter, that is not his big thing. Harley, on the other hand, is much more of a scientist/builder.
If I could touch one both of their storylines, then I would move Harley´s into a hero´s jorney, while I would slowly make Peter more of a scientist/builder. But that is just me.
Anyway, like this, Harley would have both access to Vision, and access to Stark Industries resources, which he could use to build Ultron´s new body. How that happens? After Tony´s death Ultron pretended to be a human, and talking to Harley online, influenced him into helping Ultron create an even better body than Ultron ever could. Then influenced him into creating a prototype, just to prove they could do it. And that was enough for Ultron. He took over the prototype, and flew away from Harley´s lab, went into hiding, and slowly upgraded his prototype body, according to Harley´s project.
Harley, ashamed, hide this and decided to take care of Ultron himself. Now it´s important that I think both Harley and Tony didn´t want the boy to become a superhero. Which means maybe Harley promised Tony he wouldn´t do it. However, he has to break his promise, and for that, creates a new suit of armor, based on Tony´s own armor, and his new Ultron project.
With access to an Iron man type of armor, and an objective, Harley realizes that he can´t defeat Ultron alone. So he uses a hidden file on Vision (left behind with express orders to only be used in extreme emergencies), the avengers fail-safe program. A program made to find youngsters with ties to the avengers who could become new avengers in the future.
Harley finds 3 close candidates: Eli, Billy and Tommy.
Now, moving on to these 3, Tommy and Billy would appear in doctor strange 2, but still end up dying, and being resurrected. Billy is close and Harley recruits him. Tommy is in Juvie, and therefore Harley can´t reach him. How Vision found them? Once Hex!Vision connected to White!Vision, he also connected to AI!Vision. At that point AI!Vision was able to keep tabs on the boys. He learned they had superpowers, as well as the signature energy for those powers. So, once AI!Vision found said energy signatures, he put them on the program.
Eli shows up in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where I would use the Truth storyline. Now, I think Tony (or maybe only JARVIS) could end up finding out the truth about Isaiah, and decided to keep an eye on the Bradley family, even if just to protect them. I would end Eli´s storyline in TFATWS with him getting shot to save Bucky, and getting the blood transfusion from his grandparent. Which would put him in in the program again, since AI!Vision would predict him getting super soldier powers.
Iron Lad, Asgardian and Patriot form the first version of the young avengers. They start training, but not superheroing yet, while Harley looks for Ultron. The other boys don´t know he helped Ultron rebuild his body. Just that he found out Ultron was still alive somehow. Their first adventure happens in secret invasion.
Moving to Captain Marvel 2, we already know the enemy is gonna be the religious skrull. I would also use the movie to introduce Teddy. Basically the movie starts with us fiding out, in a flashback, that Mar-vell had a son, Genis-Vell. He fell in love and had a son with the princess of the skrull. Except he had to abandon them, in order to hide their existence from the kree. When her child was still a baby, the princess´s ship was attacked, and she was killed. She was able to give her son, Dorrek VIII, to her handmaiden, so he could be hidden. The handmaiden went to earth, and sought refuge with Talos´ people, not telling anyone the boy´s real identity. She raises him as a human boy.
At some point in Captain Marvel 2, we find out about a prophecy that tells Dorrek VIII will turn the Skrull into an Empire, and that said Empire will start on earth. Therefore, the new wants to capture earth to ensure that will happen. We are introduced to “alien” magic, which Monica confirms is like earth´s magic. The queen is defeated and then religious skrull decide to go after their prophecised emperor.
They find Teddy on earth, when he starts using his powers for Greg. He fights with Greg tho, and ends up in a bad place. The skrulls appear before him in the middle of a school day, and try to get him to join them, except he refuses. Billy is present for that, and calls for Harley and Eli, so they can help Teddy, thinking it´s a kidnapping. They “rescue” Teddy.
The religious skrulls end up revealing their presence on earth, alongside their violent intentions, and start a takeover of the planet. Secret Invasion starts. The boys help Teddy escape the skrulls, even releasing Tommy out of juvie, in order to have more firepower. Billy and Teddy start a romance. Teddy, at some point, takes the form of his favorite avenger, the Hulk, and discovers his super strength. Secret Invasion ends, and Fury helps hide the boys´ identity, including Teddy´s. He helps close the juvie that made experiments on Tommy. He also promises to keep watch over them.
They become the young avengers.
Hawkeye ends with Kate mentioning her sister´s wedding.
Ant-man 3 ends up with Cassie having a suit build for her, so she can travel through the quantum realm. She is forbidden from using the suit after it, and from becoming a superhero. She steals the suit anyway.
Young Avengers movie starts with Jessica Jones being hired to investigate the boys, who have started superheroing for real after the end of secret invasion.
The boy´s try to stop and attack on Kate´s sister wedding. The attackers have special weapons that incapacitate them. Kate saves the boys.
Close to the place where the wedding happened, Cassie, who was looking for the boys to join them, meets Kate, who also wants to join the team. They also find Jessica, who tries to convince them to give up being superheroes, given her experience. She realizes she can´t convince the girls, and decides to help them find the boys, thinking they will be safer in a bigger number. Jess, being Jess, finds them easily. The boys answer they are busy, since they realized the wedding was a trap. Harley says it was probably a trap from Ultron, who figured out what Harley was doing.
They decide to go after Ultron, since he is probably doing something big at that moment, hence, the trap.
Now, this is where things get fun, since I would mix up the children´s crusade storyline, with the “kang” storyline.
My idea would be for Ultron to have learned about magic, since he was connected to AI!Vision, who learned the truth behind Wanda. Ultron realized he couldn´t do shit alone, so he joins up with whoever is the villain from doctor strange 2. Now, for this, I would use Mephisto as the villain.
Now, I think Wanda won´t go bad, after the multiverse storyline. She will end up in a horrible place, but will remain a superhero. At the start of young avengers, she ends up in NYC.
Ultron and Mephisto set up a trap for her, and joining technology and magic, are able to take control of her. Or at least try to. The boys find them and start trying to free Wanda, who is passed out. The girls show up and join in saving Wanda. However, they still lose, since they had set up traps for the boys in case they appeared.
They disappear. Not before Harley is able to hack into Ultron and find out their plan. They wanted to use Wanda to cast a spell that would kill all humanity (for Ultron) and would give their souls to Mephisto. They came up with the spell together, and kept it inside Ultron´s memory. Harley stole the spell and erased it from Ultron’s memory.
The young avengers go to their hideout, where Harley explains what he found out. He decides to use the spell as bait, in order to save Wanda.
The villains, in control of Wanda, find the young avengers. They start losing, because of Tommy´s speed. Mephisto uses his power´s along with Wanda´s and they resurrect Pietro, another speedster, to fight against Tommy. The young avengers flee.
They decide to find out more about Wanda, and end up in westview, after Harley probs AI!Vision. They find out about what happened in there, at which point AI!Vision finishes explaining the truth about the twins. (This point could be used to have Ralph tell he is actually Simon Williams, and have him turn into Wonder Man in some way, I actually have a whole idea about how this could happen). Ultron and Mephisto find them. The YA runs away.
Cassie leads them to the pym laboratory. They explain what is happening, and Scott berates Cassie. They end up being found again.
At some point, Billy undoes Wanda´s magic control over Pietro, and he joins the kids.
Ultron and Mephisto realize they need to take the kids seriously, and get more violent.
The YA tele-transport again, but are intercepted by Doctor Strange, who noticed the insane amount of magic being used. They explain the situation to him.
Mephisto and Ultron remember they are heroes, and decide to attack New York to make them come out of hiding. Now, I hate the “save New York, save the world” trope. But seeing as most of the YA are from New York, this is one of the few situations where it would fit well. Mephisto releases a horde of demons on New York.
A final battle starts. Ultron steals the spell back from Harley. Wanda starts casting the spell. Agatha says she believes Tommy and Pietro´s powers have some sort of magical nature. They can bend time, and because of it, they can cancel out magic. Therefore, after the spell is activated, they circle Wanda and keep the effect of her spell inside.
The avengers from the D+ shows appear to help.
They divide into 3 teams. One to defeat Ultron. One to Defeat Mephisto. And one to stop Wanda.
They realize Wanda´s spell can´t be stopped, since only the caster can stop their spell. However, Billy can undo Wanda´s spell (when he released Pietro from her control), maybe because his powers come from hers.
He doesn´t know how to do it tho. Strange tells him to release his magic, and the other spellcasters will mold it to undo Wanda´s spell. Billy does so, but ends up losing control. We have the iconic YA vol. 2 scene, where Teddy helps Billy control his magic (in a perfect world, they would end up kissing in this scene).
The spellcasters use his power to undo Wanda´s magic. That also undoes the control over her. They all converse on Ultron and Mephisto.
Hawkeye realizes Mephisto has messenger demons. Teddy turns into one and takes him down by surprise.
Ultron builds a shield around himself, and tells the heroes he still has a second plan. He has control over the nuclear nukes on the world, and he will activate them. Eli tells him they have a Cassie. She appears inside the shield and stomps on Ultron, winning the day.
Of course, I also have many other ideas for specific character storylines. But I am tired of writing, and might add them on another day.
IDEK why I wrote this actually. I guess I just wanted to share it somewhere.

answering questions from this fic writing meme!
5: Share a snippet that you’re proud of from an upcoming fic/chapter.
here you go cass, lil bit of early days 616 avengers bodily intimacy
But he can’t help - still nearly every time, a quiet wonder burbling up inside his throat like a mountain stream, fresh and sunlit soothing. Superheroes don’t trust easy and stripping off your battle armor within reach of someone you know is not going to disarm, whom you know in great detail, has the ability to rend you in two given just one brainwashing and a misplaced morality.
Civilians wouldn’t understand, Tony thinks. They wouldn’t know what it’s like to give someone your gun, but not your name.
But his team does, that’s what matters. He’s with people who get that, who never begrudge that even to Tony, who can’t strip like they do, who can’t peel the heavy iron coffin from around his ribs and take a naked breath with them.
9: Are there any fics you’d love to see but don’t want to write yourself? What are they?
oooh this is a good question!! here are 4 off the top of my head i would love:
a very long 616 mostly canon compliant rewrite where steve and tony have been boinking...the whole time...aghjfhkf
young avengers with avengers ensemble fic where the young avengers make fun of all the older heroes through the sharp blade of memes and tiktok video (i am not witty enough in writing for this lol)
incursions rewrite where teams from a bunch of universes have to come together to fix the multiverse
science nerds fic! (i'm not well versed enough in maths or sciencies but) more about tony, riri, reed, etc talking about nerd stuff together would be so fun, specifically with tony coding things or being The Engineer. and in a similar vein, more about extremis or AI tony or just very integrated with tech tony hghhghh. maybe i will try my hand one day, but the research...
16: Do you stick to canon when you write characters and fics?
oh no, absolutely not. 🤣 i'm really terrible about cherry-picking what i like from canon and just meshing it all together in whatever way i think is saxxy and fun. one of my favorite things is to erase isms and write in fun inclusivity or happiness instead :)
but, i do like to be...Accurate about things, tho. so if i'm going to pull something from canon like 616 tony's lovely black-gold bumblebee suit, i want to know that it's model 42, i want to know that it premiered in iron man vol 5 #1, i'll maybe want to put in a throw away line about the hodge conjecture or about rapid field testing, etc.
i want to capture the tenor of a particular character from a universe and then play with the instrumentals surrounding their voice. :)))
-
thanks for asking cass!! <3

Some details about Favreau’s Iron Man(s) that I wish had been kept in the MCU:
• Tony’s hair not always being gelled up. Especially in IM 1, it was (almost?) always down. It gave him such a boyish look even tho he was an older guy from the get go.
• The way the armor would cover most of RDJ’s body. I ofc am glad RDJ didn’t have to work on a heavy suit all the time, but it gave it a sense of weight and realism that I appreciated
• The metallic sounds of the armor moving when he moved around!
• The realistic bits of it. From the shape of the helmet to especially the flaps, I really loved how it looked and moved like it could be real.
• Tony wearing his tank tops lmao, he didn’t in IM 3 except to sleep I believe
• The awesome shows-don’t-tells. First scene in Iron Man 2 where we really see Pepper and Tony interact? She’s telling him off and pissed at him, when in Iron Man 1 she was all demure and quiet and “will that be all, mr. Stark?” From the way Tony moves closer to her when she’s distracted by the champagne to the way they interact it’s so so obvious their dynamic has shifted to a much more casual one (also the fact that he’s fallen for her). It’s never outright stated. It’s just shown. I love it.
• The way the narrative would subtly subvert your expectations about The Hero Pose: - After he defeats Obadiah, Iron Man is standing proud in front of a beautiful moon backdrop… And then his suit stopped working - Saves the “damsel” in Iron Man 2? They actually land on that roof with Pepper leaning back and him over her a la romantic pose, but then the “damsel” pushes him away *and* his helmet breaks and he has to throw it away, looking as if it will explode or something - “I think I did okay!” *sh-t explodes in the background* - (Iron Man 3 had something like this in the beginning but it was very obviously done, not subtle at all, and it didnt happen in the climax of the movie)
• Pepper/Tony/Happy dynamics. Homecoming, you did good. Infinity War, you were so close.
• The focus on Tony’s arc reactor and how it was his greatest strength but also his greatest weakness. Avengers mentioned it in passing, and I feel like Iron Man 3 would make the decision to do the surgery at the end even more poignant if we had scenes of Tony and his reactor the way the other two did.
• Tony’s casual clothes at home and leather jackets when he’s out instead of always doing the Tom Ford with two buttons type of thing. Leather jacket, car racing, hair down Tony Stark was such a cool aesthetic in Iron Man 1. - Besides, he mostly wore suits just on official business, places where he had to put the billionaire mask on. It was a nice subtle way of showing when he was comfortable and when he wasn’t.
• the only reason I didn't mention Rhodey was cause that's the one thing later movies nailed 100%. Seriously though, I miss iron man 1&2 aesthetic a lot sometimes.
#I do love the later movies ofc!#but the realism and groundedness of Tony in the first two are just so good#also I LOVE IRON MAN 3 even if I seemed to complain a bit about it#it was a tonally very different movie from the first two tho#I suppose it reflects Tony not feeling very much like himself at the moment tho#iron man#tony stark#mcu#marvel mcu#mcu tony stark#mcu text post

anon 🔥 how about suits the fandom thinks are 'weird'.
honestly, depends on which side of the fandom you mean. comics-wise there’s not a whole lot i think that can shock us with tony’s suits at this point, he’s done literally everything. if you’re talking the mcu side with no comic contact then...well. boy that’s a different story, because i feel like personally the mcu nerfed the shit out of both tony, and his suits. i get it, it was marketing, so they could debut a suit or three every movie he was in for merchandising but tony actually 1. doesn’t burn through suits like that and 2. keeps them after the fact (boy i’m still riled about him blowing up his armory in im3 because of that).
for instance, take the bleeding edge. they’re both nanotech. they’re both sexy. but the mcu version is supremely watered down. in 616 it was the thing beyond extremis, it was the next big thing. tony literally kept the suit in his own body, he and iron man literally were one, he could call it in a second because he was never without it. it was completely connected to his biology in every way, and it was gorgeous. freaked everyone out, sure, but it was effective, and it worked, and it wasn’t extremis-based. it allowed him 360 degree views around himself, it could be used piecemeal. the wasteland special in my fo4 verse is based on it - but using extremis (i went and made it even weirder, y’all).
but comics-wise, there’s a couple of suits that are kinda out there. one is the model ce1, otherwise known as the prometheum armor from heroes reborn.
i think it’s universally agreed upon that heroes reborn was stupid. i know i sure try to pretend it doesn’t exist. but i did like the armor, which...means i’m probably the only one. it’s nothing special, beyond being self-repairing, and tony’s confined to it to keep himself alive (what’s that about being reborn when you back to the old origin of must wear chestplate at all times?), but it’s just weird looking. it almost has a nose. it’s eyes are creepy. i just think it’s neat.
another is probably the model 23, also known as the ablative armor from the vegas bleeds neon arc.
for a while there in the mid-90s through the early 00s, tony’s suits took a weird as hell design turn, all the flaceplates were just...weird-looking. the ablative armor is neat, tho, if ugly, because the surface is actually a honeycomb of high-impact polymer tiles. storywise, there’s some weird techno goo that took over his previous armor and with the tiles it meant he could eject the infected tiles and keep going, because there’s a kiln on the back that makes replacement ones.
it’s weird. it’s goofy-looking. i love it.
but overall, like i said, i think it just depends on which side you’re coming from. it’s hard for me to quantify “weird” in the sense that...well...in 616 tony’s suits have all been weird to a degree. the (and here’s the unpopular opinion again) mcu nerfed the shit out of him and what his suits can do. i mean i get it, ig, it makes him more human and less science fiction, but being science fiction has been tony’s trademark since his inception. he’s been doing weird shit to himself and his suits since...forever, but especially since the 80s. and i’m sorry about that, because the neat shit tony’s suits do is half the fun.
