Actually I was thinking they'd be in a whole variety of other superhero-related roles. Like I could totally imagine a Naegami situation where Byakuya is something akin to a composite of Bruce Wayne/Tony Stark/Lex Luthor in this verse, and holding Makoto tight as they rocket across the city.

So, less a Spiderverse (as I was imagining) than a normal comics universe. That's a cool idea!

I love the idea of Byakuya starting out in supervillain territory, or close to it, and then becoming a hero or anti-hero over the course of knowing Makoto. Makoto maybe isn't a superhero; he's just a normal guy who happened to be volunteering at an event where Byakuya was fake-volunteering for PR or to get access to something for villainous purposes.

Makoto kept getting in his way, refusing to be dismissed or ignored, and just generally standing up to him way more than one would expect a regular guy to stand up to a billionaire CEO. He doesn't let Byakuya's uncaring attitude towards the work they're doing sabotage the project, but then he's also there to help if Byakuya injures himself or overheats.

Maybe the trope of "evil CEO gets ousted from his company" happens, Byakuya is under attack by other supervillains and takes refuge at Makoto's house. Then once he gets his company back (bloodily, no doubt), he becomes the city's most powerful non-villain, non-hero type. (And also Makoto's boyfriend.) The guy who knows what all the criminals are up to, doesn't help them, but doesn't stop them unless he has a reason. Maybe he gets a genuine hero arc later, but I kind of want to play in the space of him being mostly neutral for a bit, lol.

It would be fun to give Byakuya and Kyoko a Batman and Catwoman relationship.

And Spider-Man Nagito is constantly sneaking into Byakuya's buildings and stuff, for hero reasons. It annoys Byakuya enough that he has specific staff in charge of keeping Spider-people out. So Nagito's civilian identity makes friends with Makoto to try and get access.

A lot of Makoto's friends are superheroes. And a lot of them mean to keep it secret, but he finds out anyway.

Aoi is a Quicksilver/The Flash type hero for sure.

Chihiro could maybe be a Hulk type?? I'm just picturing them curling in on themself, in an oversized sweater, saying "Please don't stress me out."

Mondo and Taka are in a relationship, Mondo's a villain (or anti-villain) and Taka's a hero and they don't know they've been fighting each other for months.

In other news, still a fan of writing Obake and Gogo's friendship in the Live and Learn series (AKA that time-travelling Obake AU):

"Also I need to know when your birthday is so I can get you Heelys.” “Those are still around?” he asked, baffled. “I saw some in the mall.  Well?” “Is this a ploy to get the information back to Tadashi?  He’s been nosing around trying to figure it out.” “It’s me wanting to buy something with my first paycheck besides lower debt.” “Careful, you have to account for Uncle Sam’s share,” he teased.  Debated.  “It’s in the ghost month—that’s all you or Tadashi get.” “Isn’t a guy named Obake being born in the ghost month kind of on the nose?” “I’m a fan of dramatic irony.”  She chuffed a laugh at that.  “Also I’m reasonably sure that man is Toni Taka.” “Really?” she asked, leaning forward to watch the man he was tracking.  “How do you know?” “I had a phase when I was younger.” “Get out.” “Please understand this is not the first time I tried to be edgy.  Also understand that after that I decided my emo phase was less hazardous to my health.” “Nerd.  Hey you!” she hollered, getting the skateboarder’s attention.  “Do a flip!” The guy did so, angled closer so they weren’t hollering. “My friend here says you’re Toni Taka,” Gogo told him. “Thanks,” the guy said. “Is he right?” “Honestly I’m surprised anyone recognized me.”

Considering Toni Taka = Tony Hawk, there's a reason he's surprised at being recognized. X'D
