Aiden doesn't have a whole lot to move in, just a few boxes really. The rest of his furniture won't be delivered until the next day. But he can at least show Tony his new place.

A: Thanks for helping me.

T: What're friends for? This place is pretty sweet. The light is amazing.

A: That's what sold me on it.

T: I hope you're happy here, despite.. everything.

A: I will be.

A: Besides, if it gets to be too much, I'll just crash with you for a few days.

T: Damn straight. I'll make sure to get a sofa with a bed, just in case.

A: Just make sure it's somewhat comfortable, huh?

T: Nah, I'm gonna make you sleep on a lumpy mattress.

T: Seriously, you good?

A: I'm going to be. It's the next chapter. I gotta see where it takes me.

T: Ok. I'm just a phone call away.

A: I know. Go on, get out of here, you'll miss your bus.

A: Call me when you get settled in San Myshuno.

T: I will. Alright, no chick flick moments. Good luck, Aiden.

A: Ok, ok. You too.

With that, Tony returns home for a few days before her own move and Aiden is left to unpack and hopefully meet the rest of his housemates.

It doesn't take long for Aiden to meet some of his new neighbors. The first he meets is Alfonso Wolff who is probably around his age.

"Hey man, I'm Alfonso. My boyfriend and I are at the end of the hall, furthest from you. And speaking of..."

Alfonso introduces him to his boyfriend, Skylar Kilgore. Clearly protective over his boyfriend, but polite.

"Nice to meet you, Aiden. Welcome to the house. Al and I have been here for a year. Jayce is a good landlord, don't worry."

The next one to introduce himself is Kory Saavedra.

"So you're Aiden."

He's a bit unfriendly and for a minute Aiden doesn't understand.

"I'm Kory. I'm on the football team with your ex. Shitty thing you did, man."

Ah. That explains it. Guess Jake needed someone to talk to.

A: I thought football players had to stay in the dorms?

K: That's just first years. Besides, me and my roommate's dorm got shut down. Asbestos or some shit. School put us up here.

A: ... Oh. Sorry.

Aiden clearly isn't going to get along with Kory.

Al: Ah-hah. Sorry, Kory's kinda intense. Think we're just missing Jarod.. in the middle room. Has some job with computers. We don't see much of them.

A: I'll keep that in mind, and I'll try not to annoy any of you.. I'm a pretty quiet person myself, and I'm kind of an artist.

S: Al, you forgot about Kory's roommate, Elias.

Elias? Surely that's a coincidence? Not the Elias that Aiden knows?

A: Elias? Not Elias Anderson?

S: Yeah, you know 'im?

A: Weirdly, yeah. I went to high school with him. He used to live in my apartment building. Small world.

And of course there's Jayce Lockett, their landlord and owner of the house. A firefighter, he keeps an odd schedule and is often gone for days at a time, but they all have his phone number to leave him a message if need be.

Aiden has difficulty in new places. The new sounds, sights. He wakes before dawn the first full night after his furniture is delivered, and stares at his old couch, wondering...

On June 28, 2024, in a 6-3 decision (Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo), the Supreme Court overturned Chevron deference (a 1984 Supreme Court ruling instructing the judiciary to defer to a federal agency’s interpretation of ambiguous language in statutes). This ruling sent shock waves across the country, but particularly in Washington, D.C. where the bulk of federal agencies are located. The Brookings Institution’s Katzmann Initiative examines interbranch relations and sought to analyze the decision’s impact on Congress and executive agencies. What might their future hold? In an effort to do so, the Katzmann Initiative co-sponsored a series of panels with the American Enterprise Institute on July 16, 2024.

“He graduated from Saints something like 15-20 years before me, but its a small Catholic all-boys school, and Victor was remembered very fondly. The one thing everyone said, teachers and priests that had been at the school for thirty years, was what a good-hearted, even wise person he was. Drama was a big deal at the school even when I was there even all those years after he’d graduated, so Victor fit in just fine. “ -David

Victor's family lived on the bay itself just north of the roller coaster. It was some time before we actually met but I do recall seeing him. He was just huge. I don't mean obese, he was just huge. And very mature. For one thing, he was always very well dressed. I never saw him in shorts or jeans. When you saw Victor he was wearing dress slacks, a white long-sleeved dress shirts and leather dress shoes - black or brown. Even at our first meetings I never thought of Victor as a kid, but as a mature adult.

The 1950's were trying times for Victor. His father, Victor F. Buono, a former San Diego police officer, and the owner of a prominent Bail Bond agency, was arrested in a flamboyant and highly-publicized prosecution for smuggling parrakeets and other exotic birds from Mexico into the United States. St. Augustine's was a small school then, around 350 students, the press coverage was lurid and sensational, and the students were unspeakably vicious and cruel. Poor Victor! Every time he walked into a classroom some student would chirp "Polly want a cracker?" and the room would explode with derisive laughter, Victor never responded . He simply sat in stony solemn silence, his ears reddening in rage and humiliation until the din diminished - then life resumed. Press coverage on his father was relentless. Victor commented with the black humor that so typified him: "Above the dates on my father's tombstone, it will read 'Victor F. Buono, 50, former San Diego policeman and bailbondsman.'" I think his dad was convicted and served time in jail in the smuggling case. In the late '50's Victor's father was arrested again and charged with the robbery and murder Tony Mirabile, the top Mafia Don for the City of San Diego. He was convicted and went to prison.

(...)You’re correct about Victor’s reluctance to let people come close uninvited. In that instance, or when someone attempted to bully him Victor would just freeze them out. Obviously, given Victor’s size, nobody tried to bully him physically, and Victor had a stare of icy contempt that triggered an instant desire to be someplace else — anyplace else.

He was a frequent guest at our home. I never saw Victor drive a car. Somebody would drop him off sometime after school, either by himself or with my brother and me. My mother was very fond of Victor and he would ply her with his considerable personal charm. My father usually arrived home about seven and we’d have dinner, followed by Scrabble. It would be my parents, Victor, David and me, and occasionally, our older sister, Carol. The smaller children, Eileen, Charles and Thomas did not play but hovered at the edges. They were enthralled by Victor’s bulk and by the friendly wit with which he engaged them. The games were always a delight. When one of us was slow to make a move the others would proffer stage-whispered comments such as “He doesn’t know any words,” or such suggestions as “CAT — ‘C - A - T.’” My mother had two round chairs (I think they were called “Captain’s chairs), and Victor usually used one of them. When the evening was over, Victor would be stuck in it. When he stood the chair came up with him, and the smaller children erupted with mirth. Victor laughed as hard as they did. It was a humorous event directly related to his size but there was nothing about it that was at his expense. Obviously, he could have precluded it by simply choosing a different chair, and it happened every time, so I was convinced that he was very much a part of the game. - John Farrell

1. Daddy Tony, always. He smells specifically like the Penhaligon's Roaring Radcliffe, which I believe has now been discontinued but it was so good bestie 😭

2. Ari Levinson, specifically the Country!Ari that lives solely in my chat with @howdoyousleep3 atm. 😅 He so yummy though with hints of coconut, winter green mints, and that Fiji Old Spice. This Ari lives for that beach life... Even though he absolutely works as a blue collar road crew manager.

3. Coach Fine Ass in my sports romance WIP 😂. He smells like coconut, a bit like musky earthy leather, and a faded cologne smell, in my head specifically it's the Noir scent from Bath and Body lol

I won't share his face claim because um... Well I refuse to show how much one man has ruined me. But iykyk

4. Drider!Wanda because she has just been on my mind lately. 🥺 She smells like ozone and musky cedar and smoked vanilla. Idc if those scents go together she just does. 😭

5. Augustine Ravenscroft*, or The Librarian as some may know him as 👀👀👀, has been at the forefront of my mind because I am almost done with his novel. He smells like spiced honey and smoked tea, but the specific cologne I've given them is Babylon by Penhaligon's. Babe is bougie, only smells like the best.
