Notes:
Fantastic capture of this incredibly immersive and beautiful production. there is a bar in the bottom right corner of the screen that doesn't take away except for one moment where Gandalf and Frodo are talking on the stairs in act one, but overall I worked around it and you can always see Frodo and sometimes Gandalf. At points people are in the audience and I wasn't able to capture them but you can always hear them and I do my best to always try to make sure to capture anything in the audience that I could. Some washout and shakiness throughout.

Beautiful Capture of Abe, Larkin and Haley's last performance with the company. Join us as we celebrate the films that we love starting with Movies That Make You Want to HUG the Weekend! The List, in no particular order:
Tenet In Her Shoes John Wick Chicago It's Complicated Train to Busan Honorable Mention: Call Me By Your Name, I Am Legend
Tenet, 2020 From the opening scene, Tenet is an electrifying blend of heart-pounding action and mind-bending science fiction. Director Christopher Nolan delivers a captivating and visually stunning film. The Protagonist, portrayed by John David Washington, is a complex figure who moves through the film asking the same questions we have as viewers. The cast is fantastic, and there's this one unforgettable scene towards the end where The Protagonist has a revelatory, emotionally charged moment with Neil, Robert Pattinson's character, that leaves you heartbroken. I love this movie and will watch it again and again! -Alana
In Her Shoes, 2005 Often overlooked in the flurry of rom-coms released in the early aughts, director Curtis Hanson’s In Her Shoes exists as one of the most endearing films of the genre. In this 2005 gem, the film’s leads, Toni Collette, Cameron Diaz, and Shirley MacLaine, each deliver performances that are beautifully nuanced in telling the story of two estranged sisters finding their way back to each other, and themselves, after reconnecting with their estranged grandmother. Yes, this is a story about love - the unexpected ways we might find it, learning to permit ourselves to experience it, how it profoundly changes us, and what we are willing to do to rebuild it after it’s been broken - but this film is about so much more than that. In Her Shoes pulls the curtain back on how grief and mental illness change our relationships in ways that can reverberate through generations and how we might be able to pick up the pieces and build something beautiful for ourselves. This movie fundamentally changed me when I first watched it. I love watching movies exploring the depths of sisterhood, both loving and complicated, and this one just means so much to me. -Victoria John Wick, 2014 Keanu Reeves, a fan favorite, is dynamite in the John Wick series. The movies are action-packed, well-acted, and feature a simple yet intriguing storyline. Whenever I'm in the mood for an exciting film with snappy dialogue and an interesting cast, I always turn to a John Wick film. Among the series, the original John Wick is my go-to because what's more exhilarating than a grieving hitman seeking vengeance for his puppy and his car? I mean, if "you've effed with the wrong one" was a person, it'd be John Wick. I'm here for it! -Alana Chicago, 2002 Based on the 1926 play and 1975 stage musical of the same name, 2002’s Chicago is a soaring accomplishment from director Rob Marshall. This musical crime dramedy tells the spellbinding tale of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, both inmates on Murderess’ Row at Cook County Jail, as they chase celebrity and notoriety while awaiting trial. What is at once a tour-de-force of its own merit is also an enchanting homage to its source material, this film is one I simply cannot get enough of. The performances from Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere, and Queen Latifah are electrifying and completely mesmerizing, each wholly embodying their lauded characters. Aside from the spectacular acting each delivers in this film, the musical performances are simply out of this world, with credit to the original music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb respectively, of course, but the production comes to life in a whole new way on the big screen. I watch this film a few times a year and highly recommend keeping the soundtrack in your rotation. -Victoria It’s Complicated, 2009 Oscar-nominated writer and director Nancy Meyers followed up a legendary four-film run (The Parent Trap, What Women Want, Something’s Gotta Give, and The Holiday) with 2009’s rom-com It’s Complicated. Starring Meryl Streep, with charming supporting performances from Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, this film follows a 10-years divorced baker as she navigates life as an empty-nester and discovers what might be next for her - which appears to include an affair with her now-married ex-husband (Baldwin) and a blossoming romance with the architect remodeling her home (Martin). This film explores the complications of divorce and moving on, while highlighting the joys and pits of rediscovering yourself, especially in your golden years. While this film was met with mixed reviews from critics, there is an undeniable sense of the Nancy Meyers charm that makes it the cozy and beloved film it is to me. Like any Meyers film, the set design is a character and story to discover in itself and perhaps one of my favorite elements of this movie - it’s an aesthetic feast! I have loved this movie for years and it’s one of those movies that pulls on your heartstrings, tickles your funny bone, and makes you feel hopeful for the future by the final scene. -Victoria
Train to Busan, 2016 Train to Busan is an electrifying and almost unmatched zombie film. Like any good movie, it has emotional depth. Your investment in the characters and their survival catapults you from scene to scene. Yeon Sang-ho’s directorial choices build the tension and suspense required for the film’s propulsion, but he also incorporates space for you to catch your breath. And with this plot, you'll need it. Gong Yoo and Ma Dong-seok are a great pair, using their ingenuity and sheer power to fight their way through zombie hoards. Whenever I'm looking for something exciting to watch, this film never fails to deliver. -Alana

Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken
We’re getting a trailer for the movie in about a week.
Who made the movie?
The film, which had been made under the working title of Meet the Gillmans, is directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Kirk DeMicco (Vivo, The Croods, Space Chimps) and produced by Kelly Cooney Cilella (Bilby, Trolls World Tour). Faryn Pearl (storyboard artist on The Croods: A New Age, Trolls World Tour) is co-directing.
Tumblr media
I know those movies aren't most populations favorites but I'll wait for the trailer. I expect it to be on a funny and silly side.
Voice cast:
Lana Condor (She was in those terrible To all the boys movies.), Toni Collette (I haven't seen anything she was in.), Annie Murphy (I haven't seen anything she was in.), Sam Richardson (A comedian actor who was in so unfunny productions like Velma and HouseBroken.), Liza Koshy ( I know nothing about her or her work.), Will Forte (Again, I know nothing about him or his work.), Colman Domingo (He's fine. I never watched anything he was in.), Jaboukie Young-White (He was in the Disney's Strange World as a token gay.), Blue Chapman (Blue is a trans boy who is best recognized for his role in the series Council of Dads where he plays a transgender character named JJ. By the way he's only 13 and was way younger when transitioning! I don't care if it's offensive to you. It is creepy and wrong!), Eduardo Franco (He's an actor known for his comedic roles and being in Stranger Things. I haven't seen anything he was in.), Ramona Young (I haven't seen anything she was in.), Echo Kellum (He's apparantly a comedian and was on Arrow. You know, that terrible CW show.), Nicole Byer (Unfunny comedian I've never heard before with a terrible book.), and Jane Fonda (The bitch who called for the murder of Pro-Lifers.).
Tumblr media
So what? The voice actors are their own individuals with their own opinions. Just because an actress is a piece of human garbage doesn't mean the whole company shares her views. And it's not like a movie will be talking about her political opinions.
It's a great opportunity to see if those people are any good. It's the script that matters! But the history of the cast isn't getting my hopes up or fill me with any excitement. As long as they'll say their lines and won't be too annoying it will be fine.
I want to say this. Even though I'm pro life and don't agree with transitioning kids who are way too young to know the consequences of their actions I would never call for murder or any harm for those people.
Tumblr media
What's the story?
The story follows a shy 16-year-old named Ruby Gillman (Condor) who learns that she is the next in a legendary line of royal sea krakens. Despite her lofty destiny, all Ruby wants to do is fit in. At school, she falls for a skater-boy that she’s tutoring who shows no indication of feeling the same way about her. Ruby struggles even more to fit in because her mother (Collette) forbids her from going to the beach with any would-be friends. But when Ruby decides to disobey her mom’s instructions, she learns that she’s descended from the warrior kraken queens and will one day ascend to her grandmother’s throne (Fonda) as the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas.
In the film, the krakens are a race sworn to protect the world’s oceans from the vain, power-hungry mermaids, and the two sides have been battling for eons. The generational confrontation comes to a head when a popular mermaid named Chelsea enrolls at Ruby’s school.
Tumblr media
I really hope this movie won't go the ''Pretty girls are mean and superficial. I'm shy and not like the other girls. That boy just has to learn to not judge by the appearances.'' I believe that Dreamworks is better than that and will make great deconstruction of that trope. In The Croods New Age they had the chance to make stupid love triangle drama but didn't.
I'm worried about the lack of male characters. The plot only talks about female mermaids and queen krakens. No mention of males even in art. I hope it won't be the case that males don't transform because that would be such a waste.
Here is the link

I hope it's reliable. But if it's just some fun made think and I got played well I guess only time will tell. And if that's the case I will just make another post.

I saw your recent post about Anna and I totally agree. Kinda different situation but I was watching the Grammys and I saw that Harry won which? ….. I just never got the hype.. like??? Anyways lol . This is messy But I was wondering if there are any other actors or any celeb that you feel is “over rated “and some stars that you feel are underrated?
Aha, I was actually a little surprised with how many people agreed with that post on Anya Taylor-Joy. She's so huge with critics and on film tumblr / twitter these days, and honestly, I've never gotten it – from The Witch to Split to The Miniaturist to New Mutants to Emma and now The Menu, I just think she's ?? Tall?? And has a unique look?? To be fair, I haven't seen The Queen's Gambit, which I think a lot of people think of as her best work so far, so maybe I'm missing out, but honestly I just don't get it. I find her passable at best, and actually pretty bad in certain roles (I think she is woefully miscast in The Menu in particular).
As for Harry - - yes. Agreed, haha. I actually talked a bit about him a while ago here, but to say that I was surprised by his Grammy win is an understatement. I'm so fascinated by his speech and the fallout of it though, particularly in the way it amplifies this degree of calculated ambiguity around his public persona. In a lot of ways, I think it's kind of genius, right? That by keeping it vague regarding his sexuality, his relationship status, his political views, and now his class status (the latter of which I'm particularly fascinated by and thinking about a lot), his team gets their pick right? He plays it coy, and they play the field - it's a win-win where no one's accountable because nobody actually says anything, and as a result, he sells a lot of albums and tour tickets, while having no actual impact culturally, because how can you when you have nothing to say?
But yes, that wasn't your question, mmm, overrated actors right now, can I give you a very controversial one? Because having watched Tar last week, I feel pretty comfortable right now saying Cate Blanchett.
Don't get me wrong, I do think she's talented, but especially as an Australian, I tend to think of her, Toni Collette and Nicole Kidman as the gold standard of internationally recognised Australian actresses right now, and I think Toni and Nicole leave her in the dust. In no small part, I think it because Toni and Nicole are really diverse actresses from a genre standpoint - they've both done horror, romantic comedies, chick flicks, prestige drama, action, sci-fi and fantasy - and yeah, okay, Cate's done some of that, but not all of it, and her characters are kinda always the same? I think she's a powerful actress, but I actually don't think she has range.
Favourite underrated? There's a lot, but I will say someone who immediately springs to mind is actually Kid Cudi. He was a real highlight in How to Make It in America, and I think he's insanely charismatic and elevated his roles in X and We Are Who We Are well beyond what was on the page. I really love his music too, and just think he's a really interesting artist overall. God, I think his music in particular has shaped trends in ways that rarely get acknowledged, and that he should be at a point in his career where he's much more of a household name than he is.

RUBY GILLMAN, TEENAGE KRAKEN | Trailer & Poster
This summer, DreamWorks Animation dives into the turbulent waters of high school with a hilarious, heartfelt action comedy about a shy teenager who discovers that she’s part of a legendary royal lineage of mythical sea krakens and that her destiny, in the depths of the oceans, is bigger than she ever dreamed.
Sweet, awkward 16-year-old Ruby Gillman (Lana Condor, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise) is desperate to fit in at Oceanside High, but she mostly just feels invisible.
She’s math-tutoring her skater-boy crush (Jaboukie Young-White, Ralph Breaks the Internet), who only seems to admire her for her fractals, and she’s prevented from hanging out with the cool kids at the beach because her over-protective supermom (Oscar® nominee Toni Collette, Knives Out), has forbade Ruby from ever getting in the water.
But when she breaks her mom’s #1 rule, Ruby will discover that she is a direct descendant of the warrior Kraken queens and is destined to inherit the throne from her commanding grandmother (Academy Award® winner Jane Fonda), the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas.
The Kraken are sworn to protect the oceans of the world against the vain, power-hungry mermaids who have been battling with the Kraken for eons. There’s one major, and immediate, problem with that: The school’s beautiful, popular new girl, Chelsea (Emmy winner Annie Murphy, Schitt’s Creek) just happens to be a mermaid. Ruby will ultimately need to embrace who she is and go big to protect those she loves most.
Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken stars an extraordinary cast that includes Emmy winner Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead) as Ruby’s supportive dad, Emmy nominee Sam Richardson (Veep) as Ruby’s enthusiastic uncle and Blue Chapman (Council of Dads) as Ruby’s cool little brother.
Directed by Academy Award® nominated filmmaker Kirk DeMicco (Vivo, The Croods) and produced by Kelly Cooney Cilella (Trolls World Tour, Trolls), with Faryn Pearl (The Croods: A New Age, Trolls World Tour) serving as co-director, the film features a comedic powerhouse supporting cast, including Emmy nominee Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth), Emmy nominee Nicole Byer (Nailed It!), YouTube Diamond creator Liza Koshy (Liza on Demand), Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever), Eduardo Franco (Stranger Things) and Echo Kellum (Arrow).

I haven't posted much about Hereditary (if I have at all), which may seem odd since I'm somewhat target-audienced for that film :-D And I guess this would be an occasion to write about films that are not currently on a cancelled press tour. Then again, the movie is from A24, which complied with union terms and thus was granted a waiver. Welp.
The performances, of course, are excellent. And the fact that Toni Collette was not even nominated for an Oscar is yet another reason I don't pay attention to award shows.
The rest of the movie is also very well-made. I am no professional critic, nor well-versed in technical things, but I do agree that the lighting, the sound design, the editing are all crafted to form remarkable images and atmospheres. And the themes of mental illness and other difficulties all make for a film that, as the cool kids say, is 'just for me.'
The movie is ... not the worst thing ever.
Now this movie was released in 2018, and I'm not too fussy about spoiler warnings. Still, for the record —
Spoiler Warning
And I will continue after the cut.
I've heard the 'there's actually two movies in this film' criticisms, and at first I thought I could apply that to Hereditary. But I think there are three movies that, for me, did not quite synthesize at the end.
While I did get the sense that something other was going on, for the most part there seemed to be an attempt to 'stay grounded'. And that's not necessarily a bad thing; again, the performances of all the actors were quite compelling. Even without any untoward powers, the main characters were already faced with severe difficulties with no easy solutions. And I appreciate that the film did not exaggerate the otherworldly aspects, which could have quickly made them cartoonish.
But not-ordinary forces are indeed at work, and from what I can tell, those forces have been busy for a long time before the film even began. I mean the gang's official logo was carved onto the street post. I'm not much good at reading foreshadowing, but surely that's whacking the audience over with a log, yes?
Anyway.
Why did the Joan character insist for Annie Graham to try out the summoning starter kit? The already vulnerable family was oblivious to the grandmother's hobby — which, of course, was actually Ellen Leigh's main focus; her normal life was her facade. After her death, what need was there for Joan (I don't think her family name was ever mentioned) to keep up the act? I doubt that the special niche group was worried about outside interruption. And Joan clearly had the power to just start yelling curses at Peter Graham from the sidewalk without anyone else noticing anything amiss. Anyway, with the way she went oH wHaT a coiNciDENcE!!!1!1!!!1!! about the doormat, she should have just stuck a You’re All Dead Now :-) sign on her forehead and be done with it.
I don't see the need for all the secrecy, and I think the film suffers for it because, as a consequence, the god becomes a bit like an afterthought. The subterfuge feels more like a barrier between the corrupt powers and the family's deterioration: an obstacle for the corporeal takeover, as well as a divider between plot threads that just happened to run parallel, and then sort of tangled together towards the end.
— And that end. I said I think there are three movies in this film. One is a contemporary drama, while the other is a supernatural horror story. By the time the boy was at the tree house, though, I could almost say I was watching an indie comedy. — Specifically, an indie comedy with a happy ending: after all the funny hijinx, the goal was attained; the prospective occupant was successfully installed in the new place, and everything seems to be as it should. Like, I know the evil forces have won and an even bigger fight is about to begin, but that's not what I get from the film. I'm feeling quirky comedy happy-ending feels. Not-Peter is the awkward but cool antihero, complete with paper crown and quirky credits music. Oh, what? That was a flesh crown? Well that makes him even more hipster, doesn't it?
I've mentioned before that comedy and horror tend to overlap. I also don't think the film was purposely negating the horror of the conclusion. And I could rewatch Hereditary for the performances alone. But I can't say that the comedy, the horror, and the drama all combined very well in this instance, so I probably won't be rewatching very often.
