Dazzler #7 (DeFalco & Fingeroth/Springer, Sept 1981). This book is a weird mix of superhero and romance. Alison’s quirky backup band and star-crossed lover feel like the latter genre. I’m not sure why the genre mashup feels so much more pointed to me here than in, say, Spider-Woman or She-Hulk. I think it’s ‘cause Alison is still playing small-stakes local gigs and the dialogue feels cheesier than its peers…? I dunno, it’s a fun niche where forgotten foes like the Enforcers can resurface.

Dazzler #5 (DeFalco/Springer, July 1981). The idea of this character is fun, but the drama isn’t there yet. I’d like to see a more consistent set of supporting characters in Alison’s life. Otherwise this is gonna be a pretty standard pattern of supervillains interrupting her performances.
