High Potential
This is not 100% confirmed but I'm pretty sure James just directed (or is still directing) the season 1 finale of ABC's new procedural drama High Potential. The show follows the tried and true formula of "person with extraordinary abilities helps the police solve crimes," and stars It's Always Sunny's Kaitlin Olson.
James' involvement should come as no surprise as his BFF Todd Harthan is running the show. In addition to guest starring Dom Lombardozzi, I assume this particular epsidode was (co?)written by Marc Halsey, rounding out the Rosewood reunion in front and behind the camera.
There doesn't seem to be an official release date yet for the episode but it should be in the next few months. More info to come when I have it. :)
domenicklombardozzi Many thanks to @kaitlinolson @toddharthan @marchalsey @jamesroday and @highpotentialabc crew for allowing me to play on campus . It was a joy! #highpotential

Ranking Hulu’s ‘Into the Dark’ Series
Hulu made every horror fans dream come true by making Into the Dark. Every month they gave us a Blumhouse produced episode that was based off a holiday from that month! To be honest I reallynenjoyed all of them cause I love seeing fresh original ideas! I have been watching and ranking these and here it finally is! This post will have ***SPOILERS!!!*** and if you loved this season don’t worry, Hulu just ordered a second one! Enjoy!
12. The Body (Halloween)
The Body is funny at points but honestly it’s not good. Seeing as the theme was Halloween I just expected a lot fucking more! The concept of someone with a literal dead body acting like its part of a costume is smart but it just wasn’t executed well.
Director: Paul Davis
Writer: Paul Fisher & Paul Davis
11. Treehouse (International Women’s Day)
Treehouse was interesting but I don’t know something about it just wasn’t good. I mean I’m all for women getting much needed revenge but at points the film lagged a bit but I really did enjoy the cast in this one!
Director: James Roday
Writers: James Roday & Todd Harthan
10. They Come Knocking (Father’s Day)
Okay this one genuinely kind of scared me cause I had no idea what the fuck was going on but the mom coming back was um, TERRIFYING. Also like I wish Claire (Josephine Langford) was nicer to her little sister like stop being a bitch she’s GRIEVING.
Director: Adam Mason
Writers: Shane Van Dyke & Carey Van Dyke
9. I’m Just F*cking With You (April Fools Day)
I liked this one because you never knew what the fuck was going on or what was gonna happen next but it’s also the reason I ranked it low. There was no rhyme or reason to it and I didn’t really like the ending I felt so bad! But, sometimes things don’t need to make sense to make it thrilling and that’s exactly what this episode’s about.
Director: Adam Mason
Writers: Gregg Zehentner & Scott Barkan
8. School Spirit (First Day of School)
I’m a sucker for a school themed horror film and this little horrific breakfast club was a pleasant entry into the series. It was pretty obvious who the killer was and the story was cliche but the end is what kinda shocked me. Even though she went through complete hell, a boy should know not to get in the way of a girl trying to go Ivy! Also a great performance by Girl Meets World alum Corey Fogelmanis!
Director: Mike Gan
Writers: Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Mike Gan
7. Pure (Daughter’s Day)
This episode was so fucked up but necessary! The fathers having that much control over their daughters is just so creepy and disgusting. I really wish this movie was more supernatural but I liked the message. Scott Porter was actually incredible as Pastor Seth and he made the episode. No one should be in charge of women’s bodies except women! Period!
Director: Hannah Macpherson
Story by: Paul Fischer and Paul Davis
Writer: Hanna Macpherson
6. Culture Shock (Independence Day)
Culture Shock is my middle point like I didn’t dislike it but there’s a lot I did like. I hate Trump more than anything so I fucking absolutely hate that there are innocent people just withering away at the border. This film was good cause it showed how hard it is to get here and to fully live the American Dream even if that dream ends up being a nightmare. Also the concept of this episode sounds exactly like something Trump would do. I don’t blame Marisol for going back to Mexico, yeesh.
Director: Gigi Saul Guerrero
Writers: Efren Herenandez, Gigi Saul Guerrero, and James Benson
5. Pooka (Christmas)
Ok now these nest episodes were my favorite of the bunch and I know people are gonna be mad that I put Pooka so low but this is MY list okurrr!? Pooka reminded me so much of a Black Mirror episode. I liked how it didn’t spell anything out and left you with your imagination to figure out what the fuck just happened. Also why were those people buying that stuffed animal for their kids like it LOOKS and sounds creepy as fuck!
Director: Nacho Vigalondo
Writers: Gerald Olson
4. All That We Destroy (Mother’s Day)
A mother would do anything for their child especially their son and that’s more than true in this episode. I really loved this one because I thought it was such an original concept. It also really brings up the whole nature verse nurture debate. The cloning the girl to see what would happen was just so cool to me. The end had me wondering though was he the one buried in the backyard and the mom used his DNA to clone him when he was younger? I thought the cast was great but I’m also bias because I love Israel Broussard who’s also in Blumhouse’s Happy Death Day franchise which is lowkey my favorite horror franchise.
Director: Chelsea Stardust
Writers: Sean Keller & Jim Agnew
3. Flesh & Blood (Thanksgiving)
Honestly in this episode I felt so bad for Kimberly (Diana Silvers) like imagine being terrified of going outside and then you realize your fucking dad is a psychopath!? This episode really could’ve been a full length movies and the acting was just absolutely phenomenal.
Director: Patrick Lussier
Writer: Louis Ackerman
2. New Year, New You (New Year)
New Year, New You was the episode that got me into the show in the first place. I love Suki Waterhouse so I was eager to watch this! I genuinely did not think they invited Danielle (Carly Chaikin) over to terrorize her but they really were tryna tell home girl how much she fucking sucked! I loved loved loved the end of this movie and how Alexis (Suki Waterhouse) turned it around and made a profit off of the tragedy. You go girl!
Director: Sophia Takal
Story by: Sophia Takal & Adam Gaines
Writer: Adam Gaines
1. Down (Valentine’s Day)
Down is the best episode because the entire time you’re just captivated. I liked this message cause women can do nothing and guys feel they have the right to be with them. The way he stalked her and then thought she owed him something boiled my blood! Thankfully Jennifer (Natalie Martinez) was smarter than John (Matt Lauria) and got amazing final girl revenge. My only thing is, did he have to kill his friend and his girlfriend?!
Director: Daniel Stamm
Writer: Kent Kubena

I wonder who...?
♦The Resident: Executive producer Todd Harthan coughed up a few more details about Devon’s forthcoming love interest, describing her as “glamorous” and “such a surprise” in the episode where she makes her debut. “I will tell you it’s not a physician of any kind, and it’s an out-of-left-field character. It’s shocking that she’s in the hospital,” Harthan teases. “Their bond is pretty great and interesting. It’s a very different flavor than what he had with [Julian], a very different flavor than what he had with Priya. [She’s in] a whole different area code that will be exciting to watch.”

Kidscreen is a magazine aimed at entertainment professionals in children's and teens' media. They hand out awards each year in various categories.
James directed episodes 2 and 3 of The Crossover (released in 2023). The show won two awards this year, for "Best Inclusivity" and "Best Directing". The award doesn't specify an episode, and there were five directors in total on the show, so I assume they were all honoured for their combined effort to bring the story to life.
You can watch The Crossover on Disney+.

Welcome, welcome!
Our first showing comes from the television show, Psych.
Psych is a comedy-action series that aired on USA Network from 2006-2014. It follows the zany adventures of the titular psychic detective agency as they assist the Santa Barbara Police Department with solving crimes...while the psychic detective Shawn Spencer tries to keep the fact he is not really a psychic a secret from the cops.
So, we start our month of viewings on Halloween-ish goodies with two episodes from this show. Partly because I was spending the evening with my mother, and this show is a family favorite, and because this show just makes me laugh. I picked two episodes, one of which is my favorite in the series, that dealt with Halloween-related topics, such as vampires and demonic possession. These two episodes are a ton of fun, and I figured to kick off this watch-a-thon with something fun and light.
1.) “This Episode Sucks”
Season/Episode: Season 6, Episode 3. Original Air Date: October 26, 2011. Directed: James Roday Rodriguez (credited as James Roday). Written: James Roday Rodriguez & Todd Harthan. Summary: After Lassiter meets up with a mysterious beautiful woman, a body drained of its blood is found in Santa Barbara--could Vampires be wandering the streets? And even Lassie is thinking the killer is a supernatural monster, what??
Available for Streaming: Yes.
YouTube. Apple TV. Google Play. Vudu. Peacock. Amazon Prime.
Review: This is absolutely my favorite episode in the entire series. In fact, when my family re-watches Psych, I am not allowed to suggest this very episode, because my family knows, if it is left up to me, even if I just watched it, I will start up this one. The writing, the humor, the uniqueness of the crime, the guest stars, the references... *chef’s kiss* It’s just a perfect mix. Plus, this episode starts Kristy Swanson’s reoccurring role as Marlowe and kicks off the Lassie/Marlowe ship, be still my heart!
I just love everything about this episode.
(Also, I just found out when I was checking how to spell Swanson’s last name, she was the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Even more awesome!)
This is probably also my favorite episode directed by Rodriguez. A lot of my favorite episodes tend to be ones directed by the leading actor. I don’t know if he has much interest in directing other shows in the future, but I think he does have an eye for it. Especially when it comes to stories like this, which has a wonderful balance between horror and mystery, comedy, and heartfelt moments.
Random tidbit- this episode also has some of my favorites lines from Shawn and Gus (such as “Take it, creature!” and ”I’m hungry like a mug”).
The references were plenty in this episode, the comedic timing was on point, and I still cannot get over the chemistry between Swanson and Omundson! Lassie/Marlowe is actually tied for my favorite ship in the series (I’m a diehard Shules fan, will not apologize). I still get chills during Hansis’ big scene as Adrian with Lassie, and it was nice to see a Lassie-centric episode to give him the start of his happy ending for the series. This just sums up everything I love around the holiday and was the perfect way to kick off this October!
Trick-or-Treat: TREAT! Yes, I might be biased because this is my favorite episode, but this episode is an utter treat for Halloween lovers. Even if you do not watch Psych regularly, I think the average person could enjoy it, provided they like Vampires and are fans of delicious comedy.
Rating: 10/10 🦇
2.) “The Devil is in the Details...and in the Upstairs Bedroom”
Season/Episode: Season 4, Episode 4. Original Air Date: August 28, 2009. Directed: John Bedham. Written: Steve Franks & Bill Callahan. Summary: Shawn and Gus investigate a suspicious death on the campus of a Catholic college. Was it suicide or perhaps something more...demonic?
Available for Streaming: Yes. YouTube. Apple TV. Google Play. Vudu. Peacock. Amazon Prime.
Review: This episode is a classic, full of all the reasons I love Psych--it blends humor with a heartbreaking crime, memorable characters, and amusing references to pop culture media. This also marks Ray Wise’s first appearance as the recurring character Father Peter Westley.
I will openly admit, I have never seen The Exocorist, but I do love the nods to the horror movie, especially with the silhouette of Father Westley standing before Lucy’s home in the fog, with a variation of the theme playing.
The crime is heartbreaking in the sense it was truly a tragic accident, and it is understandable why the killer Lucy panics and tries to pretend it was a case of demonic possession when the suggested cause of death was made by Father Westley. However, she crosses over into the vein of villain for me by being willing to let an innocent man be charged with murder over Agatha’s death so she could immediately romantically hit on her dead best friend’s boyfriend. It just has a level of ickyness to it.
Though hilarious, the show features some good character-building moments between Gus and Shawn, especially with Shawn learning to start looking into leads and theories proposed by Gus without immediately shutting it all down. And this episode has one of my favorite flashbacks in the entire series, with Father Westley suggesting Shawn and Henry attend a Methodist church when Shawn keeps asking so many logistical questions during a sermon about Noah’s Ark.
Trick-or-Treat: Hands down, this episode is a wonderful Treat! Definitely recommend for those whom are fans of Psych and for people who wants something that dips its toe into the realm of the supernatural and demonic possession while laughing till your sides get sore.
Rating: 9/10 👻

Quote
THE RESIDENT: If you’re worried that the new character played by Jenna Dewan will rock Conrad and Nic’s rekindled relationship, don’t be. According to exec producer Todd Harthan, Fox’s hospital drama is “actually going in a different direction” with Dewan’s medical device rep, who will recur throughout Season 2. “She does have a strong soap storyline, and she has a strong professional storyline,” Harthan shares. “But it is not going to be the wrench thrown into our Conrad and Nic relationship.”
TV LINE
I was worried because usually everyone acts like an idiot in those kind of situations. So thanks God.
