Vacuum Arc Welding (VAW) and Plasma Arc Welding (PAW) are welding techniques used to join titanium compacts, also referred to as briquettes. The VAW process utilizes a focused electron beam to melt the workpiece at a specific point and is performed under vacuum conditions, reducing the risk of oxidation. In contrast, PAW welding is performed under atmospheric pressure. The absence of electrode contact with the weld pool in VAW minimizes the possibility of tungsten pick-up and other forms of contamination, which can result in brittle tungsten inclusions and cracks in titanium, compromising the quality of the end products. For optimum results in the production process, it is recommended to use titanium round bars and sheets manufactured through the VAW process when welding titanium briquettes. This enhances the longevity and quality of the titanium materials in the finished products. At Horizon Titanium Inc., we take pride in supplying titanium produced through the best manufacturing processes utilizing top-notch equipment.
