(Timberlane Music) This is the 1st song I wrote in  2024, "Soar Like an Eagle," I sat by the wood-burning stove with my favorite guitar and rehearsed a few songs I will be using for shows in Mountain View in 2024. Some are 1930s Gospel Bluegrass and a few fun Hobo songs of the great depression. I took a break, got a coffee, and wrote this. Over the old homestead down below as an Eagle sours above, across green Ozark Mountains, the sun sets in brilliant orange, red, and yellow. I call it "Soar Like an Eagle.

Dwight Layton: Dwight is an aspiring musician and the unluckiest person in Timberlane. He is constantly facing abuse and getting beaten up by nearly everyone in Timberlane except his only friend. He dreams of one day leaving this town and hoping his music can carry him away. He tries to forget his tragic childhood/ past in Illinois and start over fresh. In his whole life, he managed to only get one friend, Hailey who he has a crush on, this is an issue since she is dating Kyle his former bully. Dwight knows there's something off about it with the bruises and cuts on her but has no way to prove it himself.

Producer Sandy Bravender brings “Calendar Girls” to Timberlane Country Club
Local actress Sandy Bravender is no stranger to the stage. She grew up here. She got her start as a child doing musical numbers and it was here that she realized that she loved performing and putting on shows. Sandy has been doing this professionally for over 40 years, forming her niche as one of the leading ladies of local community theater.
She first got her start as a member of Terrytown Country Club.  When her friend Mim Babin suggested that they put on a play called “The Women”, to raise money for the country club, Sandy jumped at the chance. It was after that that she got involved with Theater West where she was on the board and did community dinner theater. After these experiences, Sandy had officially been bitten by the acting bug and she discovered that this was something that she genuinely enjoyed doing. Sandy worked at the Terrytown Country Club doing musicals and comedies in their clubhouse until she decided to open her own dinner theater.  Although owning her own dinner theater was something she enjoyed, Ms. Bravender felt that her talents would be better highlighted if she were able to perform at different venues around town, such at La Petite Theater in New Orleans. She decided to start her own production company with her partner, Dane Rhodes, and thus Sandi Roads Productions was born. This afforded her the opportunity to travel all over town producing plays.
Of all of Sandy’s accomplishments, one of her biggest has been working with and mentoring actors who have gone on to star in stage productions in New York. People who have excelled in honing their craft and performing all over the country bring Sandy joy, because of the start that they got in actor’s workshops that she taught. Speaking with Sandy, I could hear the pride in her voice knowing that the skills that she shared with her fellow actors are being enjoyed by theater goers nationwide.  Some of Sandy’s favorite local actors to work with have been Becky Allen, Karen Hebert, who is a choreographer who has done a lot of work with the Atlanta theatre, Richard Hutton, who is a teacher at Tulane, as well as Ricky Graham.
Sandy also does fundraising through local theater. She has done many shows benefitting alums of the former Archbishop Blenk High School, as well as fundraisers for West Jefferson Hospital.  In the past, she put on a show called “Joe and Mary’s Wedding”, in an effort to raise money for Habitat for Humanity, an experience of which she is especially proud. She also put on a production for the 25th anniversary of the Jefferson Parish fire department, which those who experienced it are still talking about years later.
Sandy is proud to perform regularly at the only dinner theater in the New Orleans area. Located in Gretna at the Timberlane Country Club #1 Clubhouse Drive, Café Hope provides a fine dining experience with a nice mix of live local theater.  All stage productions are out of New York and performed brilliantly by local actors.  Sandy stresses that the plays that she produces are light hearted and fun musicals and comedies. “There is enough drama in life and we want everyone to come out and have a great experience.” Sandy says.
For those that want to be a part of the action and try out local theater themselves, Sandy suggests being proactive. There are always audition notices in the paper. A veteran to the stage and no stranger to the process herself, Sandy suggests taking acting classes in order to hone your craft at Tulane, Loyola or UNO. She is also quick to emphasize that local productions are always looking for backstage help and that could be a good way to get your foot in the door.
Sandy’s latest production “Calendar Girls” will take the stage at Timberlane Country Club March 9th through 25th. Directed by Dane Rhodes, the play is the true story of best friends Annie and Chris who want to raise money for Leukemia research after Annie’s husband dies of the disease. They manage to persuade fellow friends in their 50s to help by selling calendars and they themselves become Calendar Girls. The play is lighthearted and fun with a lot of heart and is sure to be a great evening of laughs. For the evening show, the doors open at 6:30 pm, the buffet is at 7:00 pm and the show starts at 8:15 pm. For the Sunday matinee, the doors open at 11:30 am, the buffet is at 12:00 pm and the show starts at 1:15 pm. The buffet and show is $52 and the show alone is $40. Group rates are available. Please call 362-4451 for more information and to purchase tickets.

Personally I did not know missy elliot was so big in Afro futurism, I know she is considered one of the Hip Hop queens and breaks boundaries through the form of bounce music, with Timberland. I remember growing up and always having the Supa Dupa album being played in my moms car. Missy Elliot is one of my older sister artists so learning about Missy Elliot is always fascinating to me. So learning about how missy elliot and the creation of syfy hip hop was extremely fascinating to me.
In My History Of Hip Hop class with Cheryl Keys, we learn that she pushed boundaries by her outfits in her music videos. We learned about the different categories of queens in Hop Hop and how she fits in multiple categories. We also discuss how she is unique, and is an innovator due to her outfits that she uses within her music video, and her involvement in the bounce music. despite surprising not going over syfy hip hop.  The Missy Elliot mini documentary  explains how that album was inspired by mae jamesons, the first african american astronaut in 1999. I didn't learn about Mae Jameson until my uncle bought me a stack of black history cards and Mae Jameson was on one of them so learning about that connection is actually really powerful. Therefore learning about how Missy elliot took what was happening in life and remimaged with future elements is unique, special, and breaks even more boundaries.
Nalo Hopkinson explains that it is radical for black people to think about their future like we learned about artists like Sun raw and John colrans, and george clinton have done. Missy elloit puts images of black people in the future through videos, making her music to bridge from older artists like Sun Raw to new artists like Janell monae. It's interesting however because  being able to use afro futurism in music by looking to the future. It's important to look past those men who focus on modern female artists like  Missy Elliot and Janell Monae to see how afrofuturism has evolved in music.  Missy Elliot deserves recognition for using music to immagine black people in science fiction and the future. Nalo Hopkinson. explains that it is radical for black people to think about their future, and that's what missy elliot did and  flying lotus do. Flying lotus is another example of Syfy Hip Hop with songs like the song can be found with never catch me by flying lotus. Flying Lotus and Timberlan both have surreal elements in their beats. Both push boundaries by incorporating corky sounds in the genre of Hip Hop syfy.

(The Al Timberlane Show) Christmas Card Trilogy. Three verses looking at Christmas and the Story of Jesus; traditional and fun. Billie's Christmas Card is my Favorite. This is not Billy Graham but I do sound a little like him and it is the gospel message. I know it a bit early for Christmas but the message is for everyone.
