So I did a brief review of when writers from the Warring States and earlier would place the legend of Yi.

Yellow Emperor's Reign: Spring and Autumn Annals of Lu Bu Wei (吕氏春秋) and Mozi's writings. Yi is listed as inventor of the bow and arrow, alongside other inventors from the Yellow Emperor's period. 吕氏 also mentions ten suns appearing before Yao's reign, but as a good omen. Also quoting from Zhuangzi, 吕氏 has Yao saying that “lighting fires while the ten suns are out" is a waste of effort, because their light cannot make the already bright environment brighter, just like Yao remaining on the throne cannot make the realm a better place when the sage Xu You is already going around helping people.

Xia Dynasty: Shang Shu (尚书), Guo Yu (国语), Zuo Zhuan (左传), Tale of King Mu (穆天子传), Qu Yuan's Tian Wen (天问), Confucius, Zhuangzi, students of Mozi. The three history books, Shang Shu, Guo Yu, and Zuo Zhuan all present Yi as an usurper of the Xia Dynasty who was then betrayed and murdered by his advisor Han Zhuo. Shang Shu also rationalizes Yi's shooting of the suns as a campaign against the Xi and He clans, two noble families charged with calculating the calendar, but who had neglected their duties. The Tale of King Mu also calls Yi the Xia Dynasty ruler of Yoqiong. Confucius and Zhuangzi both cite Yi as a powerful archer, but bad ruler. However, Zhuangzi portrays Yi as a man who understood his own faults and could not take pride in his ability to judge character. Mozi's students related a story about Yi receiving a jade pendant from heaven before his final failure and death, as an allegory of pride going before a fall. Qu Yuan has the most complete summary of Yi's myth, presenting him as a Heaven-sent hero who was meant to save the people of Xia, but usurped the king's throne, stole a river god's wife, abducted the woman Xuan Qi, lost Chang-E when she went to the moon, and finally was punished by Heaven and fell to the schemes of those around him. Other texts also mention Yi, but he's still implied to be a Xia Dynasty figure because there are pre-late Warring States texts setting him in any other time. Guizang, one of the earliest texts to contain Chinese myths, states that Yi shot down the suns and Chang-E stole the elixir of immortality and went to moon. Shan Hai JIng mentions Yi received a bow from the sky god Di Jun to slay monsters. Mencius mentioned Yi being murdered by his jealous student Feng Meng, but stated Yi bore some responsibility for the crime (neglecting mortal education). In contrast, Guan Zhong and Han Fei regarded Yi as a principled man dedicated to his craft, who understood the philosophy and not just the act of shooting an arrow, and who was the protective figure. Yi is often listed alongside his disciple Feng Meng as the example of a good archer.

Yao's Reign: Huainanzi (淮南子) and its oral sources. Yi shooting the suns is set during Yao's reign. Xunzi also mentions Yi as a title that can be given to any good archer. However, he also makes references to Yi and Feng Meng as specific individuals, in which case he's likely referring to Yi from the Xia Dynasty. ("Yi and Feng Meng cannot aim accurately with crooked bows"; "Yi's methods are not lost, but Yi is no longer in this world.") Meanwhile Han Fei makes vague comparisons between Yao and Yi as enforcers of the law, but never specifically calls them contemporary.

Later Han Dynasty commentaries would make the sun-shooting Yi from Yao's era a different individual than the Xia Dynasty Yi, but the myth of a single Yi who both shot the suns (or the individuals responsible for tracking the sun's movements through the year) and usurped the Xia throne came first and was the most popular before the Qin Dynasty.

I only have one small correction: Qu Yuan's Tianwen does not make any connection between Chang'e and Yi.

There are lines about the death and revival of the moon, and the animal in it (夜光何德,死则又育?厥利维何,而顾菟在腹?), as well as the lines asking about why a woman in fine white robes is decorating herself in jewelry, followed by a question about where she gets the "fine pills" and why she cannot hide/keep them. (白蜺婴茀,胡为此堂?安得夫良药,不能固臧?)

It is commonly interpreted as referring to the Chang'e legends, but at least in the poem, it's not connected to the Yi-related lines.

Also, though the version of Guizang quoted in the ask mentions both Yi and Chang'e next to each other, the Qin era bamboo slips excavated from Wangjia Tai only mentions Chang'e stealing the pill of immortality and flying to the moon.

From what I know, though both the Yi and Chang'e mythology were floating around in the late Warring States-Qin era, they weren't yet connected to each other.

The earliest passage that featured the "Yi gets immortality pills from QMoW, Chang'e steals it and fly to the moon" plot is from Huainan Zi , and in the eastern Han annotation of the passage, they became husband and wife.

Summary:

Li Jing, the commander-in-chief of Chentangguan, is responsible for guarding the treasures for Heaven. His son Nezha (played by Shi Xiaolong) is smart and has strong martial arts skills. One day, Zhu Bajie (played by Hao Shaowen), the godson of the landlord, broke into the house and caused a lot of trouble. Fortunately, Nezha helped Fang escape from danger, and the two became friends from then on. The two little guys suddenly became playful and made the study room a mess. At this time, the Dragon Palace of the West Sea and the East China Sea were getting married, but the Dragon Girl of the West Sea was unwilling to get married. Nezha was playing at the beach, causing turmoil in the Dragon Palace, and the Dragon Girl even took the opportunity to escape. Nezha came to help and started fighting with the Third Prince.

On the other hand, there is a Stone Monkey on the Flower and Fruit Mountain in Aolai Country in the East China Sea. After thousands of years of wind and rain, and absorbing the essence of the sun and the moon, the stone monkey (played by Lin Zhiying) finally transformed into shape. Under the instructions of the Monkey Ancestor, he learned the seventy-two. He changed like this and decided to go to the East China Sea Dragon Palace to retrieve the Ruyi Golden Cudgel. His arrival caused chaos in the Dragon Palace...

Wuxia round up, which let's be honest is just me ranking my favorite Louis Cha/Jin Yong works.

1. Demigods and semidevils (Tian Long Ba Bu/天龙八部)。The 2003 version is still my fave, I think, mostly because the dude who plays qiao/xiao Feng NAILED it. (Incidentally, the same actor also plays the major big bad in Ever Night 1, and he fucking nailed that one too). Although the bizarre harem (sub?)plot ruins it a little bit, but overall I loved the stories of brotherhood and found families and defining for yourself who you are while making best of circumstances. Im a huge fan of "freedom of choice" theme in wuxia. Plus, all 3 sworn brothers are very compelling as characters with interesting growth and development.

2. The Legend of the Condor Heroes (She Diao Ying Xiong Zhuan/射雕英雄传). Frankly, I debated between this one and The Smiling Proud Wanderer (XAJH), and this one only narrowly edged over XAJH because I love me a likely neuroatypical main character who is sympathetically portrayed (I will fight anyone who claims Guo Jin is not NA with all my cultivation and liu mai shen jian). The main villain is an incredibly well written tragic character who is both despicable and somehow also worth your sympathy because ultimately, he never stood chance if you really think about it. The foils between the hero and villain are masterful (and also further support my theory that GJ is a neuroatypical genius) The cameo by historical figures like Genghis Khan and his family is a plus. Also the Eastern Heretic is 1000% DILF. 2009 version is my personal favorite because I think they really captured the essence of guo jing.

3. The Smiling Proud Wanderer (Xiao Ao Jiang Hu/笑傲江湖). I'm 90% sure that MDZS is like... a queer xian xia au of XAJH, or like a fanfic where WWX and LWJ are the old men mentioned at the beginning of the story. Unfortunately, I'm gonna slap a HUGE "this work is majorly transphobic and questionably queerphobic" warning sign here. As a GNC queer, the only reason I dont hate it is because this is my parents' favorite work and I love the key themes raised in this piece, and Linghu Chun is a very very likeable character who is stupidly self sacrificing and an independent thinker with a drinking problem and strong moral boundaries (so...... like WWX but like less gay). lots of stuff thematically similar to MDZS, but story telling is in a very different style.

Honorable Mentions:

- romance of the condor heroes: main characters journey is interesting, but the whole marrying the girl who raised you and who you literally called auntie is little on the weird side.

- heavenly sword and dragon saber: again loving the whole "there is nuance and gray between black and white" theme here. Again loving the cameos by historical figures like zhu yuanzhang and yuan dynasty emperors. I wish that the focus was more on the ladies, rather than the main dude. He's, despite being my ultimate favorite trope of genius doctor fighter guy (zong yue, anyone?), is kind of boring. But Zhou Zhiruo's character development and her inner struggle is well done. The foil between her and Zhao Min is also really fascinating. Xiao Zhao and Yang Buhui and The Ugly Girl are also terrific characters. Zhiruos master is a fun villain.

Best Louis Cha work to start with: DEFINITELY legend of the condor heroes. All the cool wuxia stuff without the frankly weird and borderline squixky relationship shit in the other ones.

Raishi: Konpeki no Shou (Part 3)

The third part of the game, following Sun Wu’s time-traveling adventures, is completely batshit. And it’s my favorite, if I’m being honest. It’s so completely out there that I have to kind of respect it.

We’re back to Sun Wu’s storyline after he was thrown into a time rift along with the war orphan he adopted as a sort of little sister figure and the assassin Zhuan Zhu’s orphaned son who’s been kind of adopted by the Wu court. In the rift he gets separated from the kids and lands, alone, over 100 years later, in the Warring States period, on the border between Zhao and Wei.

His main priority is to find the kids, but he gets caught up in the ongoing war between Wei and Zhao when he kills a Zhao soldier in self-defense and needs to save the surrounding village from being blamed for it. He ends up fighting for Wei alongside Gongsun Yang (the future Lord Shang, currently still a relatively minor official in Wei) and Pang Juan, who in this game is a hot lady, a beast on the battlefield, and followed by dark rumors of cruelty.

Sun Wu gets along well enough with both of them, but his priorities lie elsewhere. Gongsun Yang leaves after his boss dies, and Sun Wu also tells Pang Juan that he’ll be leaving so he can keep looking for the kids. Pang Juan is shocked and tries to persuade him to stay, but when that fails, asks him to run one last mission for her.

So he agrees to go where she asks to take care of a bandit problem. Only, it’s not bandits he encounters there. It’s Wei soldiers, who accuse him of trespassing on royal burial grounds and plotting tomb robbery. Despite his protests that this is all a misunderstanding, they take him prisoner, tattoo his face, and cut off his feet.

Then Pang Juan swoops in, horrified at what’s happened. She sends the prison guards packing and saves Sun Wu and brings him to her own home to recover and gives him medicine...

...And reveals she’s the little sister he’s looking for. She and Zhuan Zhu’s son landed in this era over a decade before he did without anyone to protect them. And now he waltzes in more than a decade late, not even recognizing her, declaring that he’ll leave her to save the kids he abandoned. She calls him a liar but he doesn’t understand why.

But that’s okay! She set him up at the royal tombs to leave him a helpless immobile prisoner in her home! She made sure he can never leave her again!

Also, she’s harbored romantic feelings for him from the start. He’s going to be her plaything from now on. The medicine contained roofies and she rapes him.

After a lot of this, he manages to escape with the help of the Qi general Tian Ji (which in this game is another hot anime girl). People know Sun Wu as the name of a historical figure these days; he starts calling himself Sun Bin, for his mutilations, instead.

Yeah. We’re now at the start of the Sun Bin vs. Pang Juan historical story.

Sun Bin helps Qi fend off Pang Juan’s aggression as he works his way toward revenge. In Qi, he also finds Zhuan Zhu’s son, all grown up as Bai Gui (the name of a famous historical merchant of this era).  He and the sister were separated early on when she was taken by human traffickers, and he’s shocked at hearing what she’s become. He insists there can be reconciliation, but Sun Bin is adamant. The sister he knew is dead; Pang Juan must die. And he does kill her, as per history, at Maling, trapping her in an ambush of arrows while she screams that she was so close to succeeding at her mission and finding happiness, that she loves him, that he’d made her a promise.

It’s at the victory feast that Bai Gui meets Zou Ji, the prime minister of Qi, for the first time...and recognizes him as the dude behind her kidnapping...and that of many other young girls throughout China.

So they realize that he’s the reason she changed so drastically, and the reason she was so ruthlessly trying to invade Qi. Also, the Five Emperors squad and their pals show up and genderbent Guiguzi chews out Sun Bin for not even trying to understand Pang Juan because he was afraid to accept her love, and for failing her so utterly. That promise Pang Juan mentioned? He once told her that he’d never let go of her hand. He’d completely forgotten, but it had meant everything to her. And Sun Bin, who’s orchestrated countless battles in the name of a greater good, doesn’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to someone else’s readiness to do anything to accomplish their goals.

Which, kinda fair. Sun Wu did kill Helu’s palace women to make a point way back when, and now he has literally zero legs to stand on. Anyway he repents and resolves to finish what she started and take down Zou Ji. He and the rest of the gang attack Zou Ji’s secret lair, where they discover that he’s a sadistic immortal follower of Nuwa who’s been kidnapping thousands of girls throughout the years to raise as brainwashed cultists, including Pang Juan, who managed to escape his brutal abuse. A grueling boss battle ensues, which is basically only winnable because Sun Bin channels Pang Juan’s memory to lend him mad strength.

A defeated Zou Ji reveals his backstory before dying: he’s actually Ji Zha--Helu’s famously virtuous uncle, who declined the throne to avoid succession violence only to watch helplessly as Helu rose to power (with Sun Bin’s help) through assassinations and invasion anyway. In his despair, he’d made a devil’s bargain with Nuwa.

And that leaves Team Humanity headed to their ultimate destination: the juncture between the Zhou and Shang Dynasties, where they hope to stop Nuwa once and for all with the help of Jiang Ziya. If they can fix things at their source, all the history downstream will become unfucked too, which would save Pang Juan. With hope in their hearts and Gan Jiang and Mo Ye’s final sword in their possession, the game ends.

Apparently there’s supposed to be 4 games in this series (this is the second) and it really shows. Wu Zixu doesn’t appear again for the entire final third act. Plot threads are left dangling left and right. Some of the sideplots were pretty dumb and I didn’t go into those in this post because it’s already long enough...but you know what, I’m forced to respect the main storyline of this act, because it’s so out there and yet it...kinda works. The identities of the immortals/time travelers after the time skip. The batshit Pang Juan twist. And, fine, I grudgingly teared up a little at the Guiguzi/Shenyin Shu romance at the very end. I can respect unwashed 俺-using hermit lady/buff manry himbo even if some of the writing made me lose brain cells.

Anyway, if you really like these characters or this era, I guess I would recommend this game. All your faves are hot anime people and this game isn’t afraid to play with the source material in ways that are sometimes dubious but generally interesting. I’m gonna totally ignore the omakes, though, because there’s too many boobs in the CG gallery for them and they seem like they’d be 90% obnoxious pervy humor.

 You yu shan di jiao gao ,fen liu de min jiang bu neng man zu guan gai xu qiu

由于山地较高，分流的岷江不能满足灌溉需求

Due to the high mountain area, the Minjiang River can not meet the irrigation demand

  Li bing jue ding xiu jian di ba ti gao shui wei

李冰决定修建堤坝提高水位

Li Bing decided to build a dam to raise the water level

 Ke shi di ba hen rong yi bei tuan ji de Min jiang chong zou

可是堤坝很容易被湍急的岷江冲走

But the dam was easily washed away by the swift Minjiang River

 Li bing cong  he bian xi yi fu de fu nv shen shang shou dao qi fa

李冰从河边洗衣服的妇女身上受到启发

Li Bing was inspired by women washing clothes by the river

 Dang fang ru shi tou dao xi yi kuang shi

当放入石头到洗衣筐时

When put stones into the laundry basket

 He shui cong xi yi kuang de feng xi zhong liu guo

河水从洗衣筐的缝隙中流过

The river flowed through the crevices of the laundry basket

 Xi yi kuang que bu hui bei he shui chong zou

而洗衣筐却不会被河水冲走

And the laundry basket won't be washed away  

 Tong yang de ,ru guo yong zhu long zhuang shang e luan shi tou ru jiang zhong

同样的，如果用竹笼装上鹅卵石投入江中

Similarly, if put pebbles in bamboo cages and throw into river

 Jiang shui cong zhu long he e luan shi de feng xi zhong liu zou

江水从竹笼和鹅卵石的缝隙中流走

The river flows through the crevices of bamboo cages and pebbles

 Dang jiang shui de chong ji li bian xiao hen duo

当江水的冲击力变小很多

When the impact force of the river becomes much smaller

 Di ba jiu neng xiu zhu qi lai

堤坝就能修筑起来

The dam can be built

 Li Bing dai ling bai xing yong zhe ge fang fa xiu jian di ba

李冰带领百姓用这个方法修建堤坝

Li Bing led the people to build dams in this way

 Ti gao shui wei bing jiang Min jiang fen wei nei jiang he wai jiang

提高水位并将岷江分为内江和外江

Raised the water level and divided the Min jiang river into inside and outside rivers

 Ji jian shao le yu ji shi  jiang shui dui di an de chong ji

既减少了雨季时暴涨的江水对堤岸的冲击

It reduced the river’ impact force to the banks in wet-season

 You yin nei jiang shui guan gai le gan han de nong tian

又引内江水灌溉了干旱的农田

And pumped inside river water into dry fields

 Ke shi wen ti you lai le

可是问题又来了

But there was another problem

 Nei jiang he dao xia zhai ,hen rong yi bei yu ji de ni sha du se

内江河道狭窄,很容易被淤积的泥沙堵塞

The inside River is narrow and easily blocked by silt

 Li Bing you she ji le si xing de fei sha yan

李冰又设计了S型的飞沙堰

And Li Bing designed S-shaped desilting Weir

 Li yong shui liu de chong ji jiang ni sha pai ru wai jiang

利用水流的冲击将泥沙排入外江

Using the impact of water flow to drain silt into the outer river

 Shi gan jing de shui liu ru nei jiang

使干净的水流入内江

To lead the clean water to inside river

 Li Bing you rang ren zai jiang di fang ru you ke du de shi xiang

李冰又让人在江底放入标有刻度的石像

Li Bing asked to put graduated stone statues at the river bottom

 Dang he di ni sha da dao shi xiang jing jie xian shi

当河底泥沙达到石像警戒线时

When river silt reach the warning line of the status

 Bian dui ni sha jin xing qing li

便对泥沙进行清理

To clean up the silt

 Zhi ci ,Du jiang yan shui li gong cheng zhong yu wan gong

至此，都江堰水利工程终于完工

The Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Project was finally completed

 Du jiang yan xiao chu le shui huan

都江堰消除了水患

Dujiangyan eliminated the floods

 Guan gai le cheng du ping yuan , shi ta cheng wei le tian fu zhi guo

灌溉了成都平原，使它成为了天府之国

irrigated the Chengdu Plain and made it become the land of abundance

 Li jing liang qian san bai nian ，Dujiangyan zhi dao jin tian dou zai fa hui zuo yong.

历经2300年，都江堰直到今天都在发挥作用

Until now It has worked for 2300 years
