Writing a little thunderforge AU and realizing that in every universe...

But the restless itch remains, hollowing a pit of desire and arousal in Rolan’s belly. After a few seconds he shifts over and pulls open the drawer in the table at his bedside. He finds the bottle of brandy there, pours a careful tongue into the glass waiting on the table, and downs it in a swallow. He grits his teeth as he savors the burn down his throat and the pooling warmth in his stomach. The liquor does its work clearing his head. He felt drawn to the blacksmith because he’d been dreading the party and desperate to find any outlet or escape. Perhaps he’s even a little lonely. But that is no reason to entertain these absurd notions of attraction, and even less reason to indulge them.

… I can't help but write Rolan and Dammon's connection being founded on some kind of loneliness each of them feels, and maybe have felt for most of their lives 😭

The soft smile lingers on Dammon’s lips as he sits down on the bed to pull his boots off, and pauses with his fingers on the laces. He’s thought continually of that interaction with Rolan over the past couple of days. Something about it has remained with him. He’d been drawn to the man somehow, the manner in which the handsome lord had so willingly descended to his position to speak with him so earnestly. His time on the Erendale’s estate has been fulfilling, the people perfectly courteous—but he’s found himself lonely out here on his own, always feeling the stiff barriers of position between himself and the people he reports to. Something about Rolan had been . . . Different. Only just. But different.

it is kind of funny to me that this means I'm basically writing Infernal Arcana except in an AU, but I just can't see or write them with any other dynamic.

Rolan smiles again, warmer this time, and more genuine. After a second Dammon smiles back at him, charmed by this lord who is so willing to descend to his position to speak as friends. And as Rolan begins to speak, tentative at first but gaining momentum and enthusiasm as he relates the treatise he’s been reading on the natural laws dictating the universe, Dammon has the sense that Rolan needs someone to speak with like this. Perhaps that was behind whatever spark had struck between them that afternoon when Rolan’s horse had thrown his shoe and they’d shared that first most unexpected yet welcome encounter. Perhaps both of them need this—something where the rigorous boundaries and rules of social engagement do not inform their interactions, but instead something far more organic. A reaching out of two souls isolated in their respective stations.

(I do feel inclined based on past experiences to say this is all my hc, please if you disagree just make your own post with your own hcs)

I do hc Dammon (in bg3, not AU, but also in AU) as being someone whose nature is to keep to himself—he’s soft spoken and selective about who he spends time with, because at the end of the day he’s content with his own company. But I do also think that tendency has created this loneliness in him, maybe not something he even really thinks about until he meets someone and begins to Yearn

And same for Rolan, he has his siblings but also knows they will grow up and have their own lives. I think Rolan is someone who would feel lonely because it’s vulnerable and frightening for him to open up and let people in—being someone who likes to feel in control. It’s also difficult for him to find someone who feels worthy of his attention.

And it’s really sweet for me to think of these two people finding each other, and realizing they’re both lonely, and finding that connection or spark in each other they’ve never really felt before. That’s really what makes their relationship so compelling for me to write 🥰

His eyes don’t leave Rolan’s. Leaning in closer, Rolan pulls the tie from Dammon’s hair and slips it around his own wrist in the same motion. The blacksmith’s red-streaked silver hair falls loose, a little past his shoulders. Rolan tilts his head and admires him. Hair down, Dammon looks . . . “Pretty,” Rolan says.

Jason and Leo's birthdays are like, barely a week apart so...

Everytime Jason's birthday rolled around, he couldn't help but remember that it was the day Percabeth fell into tartarus. Whilst everytime Leo's birthday rolled around, he despised all the attention he suddenly got. Celebrating just cause you were born? Wasn't that kinda useless?
