Happy Friday everyone! ::: Thanks to all the Garmin users for all your responses yesterday. Turns out a big majority of you did not face any issues. Maybe I’m just unlucky that I’m surrounded with 4 faulty watches 😂 I’m giving it another go... waiting for @garmin to send me a new one. Cannot wait! It was great when it worked fine. My favourite option was the maps.... you can just about see it here as I hike in Snowdonia. You plot a trail as you want it, pop it on the watch and just follow it. It buzzes when you go off route... easy peasy... or is it? This is the exact spot we should be turning left, too much talking though and we missed it, we went straight. By the time I realised it was too late to go back. So don’t ignore the buzzing when you’re deep in conversation 😂🤭 ::: #snowdon #snowdonia #snowdonianationalpark #yourwales #yourhikes #visitwales #hiking #snowdoniapics #snowdoniagram #northwales #northwalesinstagram #mountsnowdon #mindovermatter #threepeakschallenge #healthiswealth #exploreuk #ukhikes #ukhikers #ukhiking #hikinguk #tolivetotravel #ukhikingofficial #exploremore #garmin #garminuk #threepeaks #adventure #ukbloggers #ukpics #hikingbangers (at Snowdon) https://www.instagram.com/p/CG9ovXcH0Vd/?igshid=v9wkopwwldwn

Fred.Olsen Renewables raise more than £16k with Three Peaks Challenge
Fred.Olsen Renewables, with the help of Natural Power, SeaRoc and ZX Lidars, has raised a total of £16,078 for the Marine Conservation Society, Scottish Mountain Rescue and Mountain Rescue England and Wales by completing the Three Peaks Challenge. A team made up of 27 employees from all four companies took park in the challenge scaling Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Snowdon in Wales.
Euan Fenelon and Finley Becks-Phelps Finley Becks-Phelps, development manager at Fred.Olsen Renewables, said: “Originally, it was just an idea for Fred.Olsen Renewables to do the challenge as a team building exercise, but then we opened it up to the other companies and got a really positive response. We picked three charities we felt really strongly about. He continued: “The Marine Conservation Society does fantastic work protecting our seas, and without the Scottish Mountain Rescue and Mountain Rescue England and Wales people like us couldn’t do challenges like this. “We set a target of £10,000, and we smashed it! We held cake sales in Stirling; at The Greenhouse, which is Natural Power’s head office in Dumfries and Galloway; and in Newcastle, to help raise money, and everyone paid their own way to make sure every penny raised went to the charities. “On the day, everyone braved the climb despite the weather conditions, and we all managed to complete the challenge. People came from London, Oslo, and other parts of the UK and Norway to take part. It was a real team effort.” Euan Fenelon, director of operations and asset management at Natural Power, said: “It was wonderful to see everyone from the different organisations come together to do the Three Peaks Challenge, especially those that travelled from overseas to take part! It was a fantastic opportunity for us to get involved in a wonderful team activity, support our clients and raise money for three fantastic charities.” Graham Howe, sales manager at SeaRoc, added: “SeaRoc was proud to join the Fred.Olsen Renewables team for a memorable lifetime experience that benefited three great charities.” After the event Kev Mitchell, vice-chair at Scottish Mountain Rescue commented: “We are hugely grateful to Fred.Olsen Renewables for completing their Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Scottish Mountain Rescue. We depend on donations to maintain our world class rescue service and support our 24 member-teams to locate, assist and save the lives of people who are lost, injured, missing or otherwise in need of help any hour, any day and any weather. Thank you to everyone at Fred.Olsen Renewables.” ENDS About Fred.Olsen Renewables Fred.Olsen Renewables (FOR) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bonheur ASA and is responsible for the group’s renewable energy activities. This is my favourite place to stop for lunch. It's the wall just before the Miner's and Pyg track meet the Llanberis path. From here you can see everyone panting and puffing as they climb the last few meters to the summit. You can even work out who's been here before, the people taking their jackets off are newbies and the ones buttoning up are the pros. In about 100 metres when the paths join the wind takes the temperature down quite a few degrees, funny to watch the newbies quickly put their jackets back on. #snowdon #snowdonia #pygtrack #minerstrack #mountainrange #mountain #wales #highest #threepeaks #threepeakschallenge #tourist (at Snowdon) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtxVgfrDFPJ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1uz6jmcy81nli

I am thrilled to show some of the feedback from Mountain Rescue volunteers through the advertisement of the #threepeakschallenge. These are real life heroes and deserve every donation that people can spare. #motivationmonday ‘’Ben, as a mountain rescue team member, I'd like to thank you for your support, any money raised will go directly to the assistance of visitors to the three peaks areas, it also means that the guys and girls in the three teams you are supporting can take a break from fund raising and spend some more time with their families. It's difficult enough juggling work and rescues as well as adding fund raising and tin rattling into the equation. It usually costs at least £30,000 per year to keep a team operational, all of which is raised either by the team themselves, or supportive lunatics doing extreme rope climbs like yourself - well done, good luck, and thank you’’. The History of Hiking and Rambling In England
North Yorkshire Three Peaks is dedicated to giving both novice and experienced hikers a challenge through the North Yorkshire 3 Peaks Route: Taking you over 3 of the highest peaks in Yorkshire – Pen-Y-Ghent, Ingleborough & Whernside – in the space of a single day. 24 miles in 12 hours.
Much of the UK’s countryside nowadays is well catered for: public footpaths, official hiking trails with pubs and villages located around them, and much of the UK’s publicly-owned land is easily accessible. However, the phenomenon of walking and hiking around the countryside has only been around for a couple hundred years, as Romantic poets of the 1700s and 1800s saw the natural beauty of areas such as the Lake District, Snowdonia and the Scottish Highlands as the perfect inspiration for their flowery poetry.
While the Romantic poets were derided in their day, the mass movement from rural areas into cities, and the poor quality of life in Victorian cities at the time (London lacked a proper sewage system until the late 1800s, and cholera outbreaks were common) gave their passionate exhortation of the country life appeal to many, particularly the city elite and growing middle class who resented the urban squalor that was developing in their cities.
However, much of the countryside in the UK was private property. While trespassing on the land was illegal, many rambling clubs emerged in the North of England, protesting for their ‘right to roam’ in the British countryside. While bills supporting these rights were continually presented to Parliament between 1884 to 1932, they were repeatedly shot down by MPs who themselves owned large sections of the UK’s land.
However, in 1932, the Rambler’s Rights Movement organised a mass trespass on Kinder Scout in Derbyshire. While the event was certainly a publicity boost for these rambling groups, and now commemorated with a plaque at the site, the legislation that followed (Mountain Access Bill) was seen as restrictive and an attempt to meet landowners and ramblers halfway, with neither liking the end result.
The Mountain Access bill was repealed not long after World War 2, and replaced with the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. With this legislation, undeveloped private land was converted into National Parks, with the first being the Lake District National Park in 1951. The establishment of the National Park system changed rambling from a potentially illegal and dangerous activity to a recreational one, much like what William Wordsworth, Thomas West, John Keats and Robert Louis Stevenson enjoyed over two centuries ago.
