Adolphe Menjou and Barbara Stanwyck in Forbidden (Frank Capra, 1932)

If you can bring yourself to believe that Barbara Stanwyck's character would spend her life devoted to Adolphe Menjou's, you might like Forbidden. Its writer and director, Frank Capra, didn't, almost apologizing for it in his memoirs. Menjou was a fine character actor with a film career that stretched from 1916 to 1960, but he was no leading man. He was the guy you called on for suave but starchy, not for a lifetime of illicit passion. In Forbidden he's a lawyer and aspiring politician who meets Stanwyck's Lulu on a cruise to Havana. She's a librarian longing for romance, so she spends all her savings on that fateful cruise. They meet cute, of course: He's a little drunk and somehow mistakes her room, No. 66, for his, No. 99. Unfortunately, he's married (she doesn't know this till later) and unwilling to divorce his wife because she was seriously injured in an automobile accident he caused. But they keep seeing each other after they return to the States, she gets pregnant, and through a preposterous series of events winds up letting him and his wife adopt the child she gives birth to. Meanwhile, his political career takes off, although he has made an enemy of a newspaper editor (Ralph Bellamy), who just happens to be Lulu's boss and who wants to marry her. This elaborate contraption of a plot creaks and groans its way to a denouement that's as improbable as the rest of it. If anything redeems the movie, it's Stanwyck's professionalism, her commitment to creating a character that's almost credible while you're watching her, but really doesn't when you think about it afterward. Capra also directs as if his story makes sense, which is no small feat.

Now, notable moments (in my opinion):

Tillman Henderson got out in the first round, proving there is a God and he is merciful. Tillman lost to Logan Horseman.

I think (I'm like 95% sure) that Oliver Notarobot beating Reese Clark was the biggest upset so far. On a scale of 1-90, with 1 being least likely to win and 90 being the opposite, Oliver was 42 and Reese was 87.

Kaz Fiasco beat Chorby Soul, which was probably the match with the most propaganda (including both actual posts and tags that say "VOTE X")

Juke Gnocchi, an incin replacement we got in Season 2, got farther than Parker MacMillan did. Considering that they're roommates/enemies, this is hilarious to me.

Brisket Friendo vs. Tot Fox was the closest match, with Brisket at 50.8% and Tot at 49.2%

Meanwhile, Monique Flowchart vs. Silvaire Roadhouse had the biggest difference between votes, with Monique at 11.1% and Silvaire at 88.9%

Sim ages at the start of my Uberhood

I'm using a 2 days = 1 year age mod to play this new Uberhood I'm panning (and actually already started to play when I need pause from the Somersets) and with a really difficult algorithm I have calculated each Sim's age with the default aging system and translated it into their age with the mod, all with the help of SimPE (I have quite a lot of free time currently xD). So to keep track of everyone's start age, here's my masterpost, it's simply for my own convenience. It’s Transgender Day of Remembrance - we know of 47 transgender people have been murdered due to anti-trans violence in the United States alone, making this the most deadly year for trans people yet.

The following below is a current list put together by the Human Rights Campaign to honor and remember those we have lost this last year due to violence alone. This list does not include the countless transgender people we have lost this year due to COVID-19, suicide, or those covered up.

Additionally, 375 transgender people have been murdered this past year across the world due to anti-trans violence. Rainbow Cafe will ALWAYS stand with trans people, and we continue to grieve as countless legislative attacks are still being made to both endanger and take away human dignity from our transgender siblings.

We stand alongside you, and we will ALWAYS fight for our human rights.

Rainbow Cafe will be hosting a community vigil today at 6 PM on November 20th at the Town Square Pavilion in Carbondale, IL to honor and observe TDOR. Candles will be provided to attendees, masking will be required.
