Christ, I don’t even like Mizael that much but taking a noble warrior who was willing to stand up for the oppressed (who was also his friend/confidant and later ace card) and turning him into some douchebag who just wants glory is FUCKED UP.

Also, in the dub, the old man/dragon was weirdly shocked/angry with Mizael to match this stupid as shit story change when in the sub, he’s just so stunned to see him and see him so ANGRY that he can barely speak. Mizael is still offended at the idea that he could’ve once been a “filthy human” but from the story in the sub, that’s probably just a subconscious lingering resentment towards the humans who killed him and his confidant, who in reality was protecting them. All of that character and thematic depth is gone in the dub.

TLDR: The Zexal dub took an actually interesting character (though not a particular favourite of mine) and reduced him to a one-note asshole.

i was in a poli sci lecture listening to some people in it give what were to me the most braindead takes i had ever heard all for the prof to be like "and none of u have to agree with each other, we're all allowed to disagree" and it made me realize i actually felt bad about the whole thing because how people were telling me to feel or react wasnt how i felt and not because of the situation itself .

I was rambling on the issue of museums and human remains and how certain populations are more likely to have their bodies put on display to be gawked at and then went "well I guess the Pompeii casts were of Europeans. there are bones in there right?" and Googled it to make sure, at which point I confirmed that yes there are bones in there, but more interestingly DNA testing revealed that a cast of an adult holding a child everyone assumed was a mother and child were, in fact, a man and a kid entirely unrelated to him. Honestly that's more moving to me. Maybe they were connected in a way other than blood, but maybe a stranger saw a child when the world was ending and thought the one thing he could do was hold them.
