What to Expect When Visiting Mont Saint Michel From Paris
What to Expect When Visiting Mont Saint Michel From Paris
Most visitors recommend taking an overnight trip to the famous tidal island of Mont Saint Michel, and rightfully so. Unwilling to leave our base in the city, however, we decided to take this day tour from Paris. Being on the far side of Normandy,…

"Home" is North o’clock
Through this entire first season on TWDDD we’ve seen Daryl on a mission to find a way to get back home. He’s been desperately searching for a functioning radio in every episode, and has managed to stay laser focused on traveling north, to find a way home. Despite constantly getting sidetracked along the way, he’s now nearing Le Havre, where the people of Union of Hope have promised to help him find a ship to America.
In TWDDD 1x5 Deux Amours we see Daryl, Laurent and Azlan make their way up the river, heading north, to The Nest. We get to know Azlan, whose story involves a tragic loss which took away his reason to live.
We also heard how a clock represented a turning point for him. It saved his life, he explains, and gave him a purpose to live. I took one look at that clock and realized it was the French equivalent to Beth’s DC spoon from 4x12 Still.
I’ve written a lot about the intersection between Sirius symbolism and North Star symbolism (here and here), and once again, in TWDDD Deux Amours, we see a representation of how “north” represents “home”.
In TWD season 5 we saw it explained by Carl to Judith; that if you’re lost at night, just find the North Star, it’s at the end of the Little Dipper:
Of course we all remember Beth picking up the DC spoon/Little Dipper in Still…
Daryls entire time in France has revolved around traveling north, to the place called The Nest, where he’ll deliver Laurent and get a ticket to a trans-Atlantic cruise in return.
When Azlan dies he gives the clock to Daryl, tells him to follow the river north, until they arrive at the place depicted on the clock, The Nest (which in reality is Mont Saint Michel). When Genet’s people catch up to Daryl and Laurent, Daryl gives the clock to Laurent and instructs him to follow the river until he sees The Nest.
So the navigational themes are strong around both the clock and Beth’s DC spoon. The DC spoon for obvious reasons; the North Star is at the end of the Little Dipper, as Carl explained. The North Star will help you find your way, it’s a compass in the sky.
Azlan’s clock on the other hand, is pretty much a regular compass, in that clocks can be used as compasses. I’m not making that up, a clock can be used as a compass. That is an actual thing that people do.
Basically, what we’re seeing here is that Azlan’s clock is synonymous with Beth’s DC spoon.
And remember how all of Daryl’s efforts of getting to the north involves constantly searching for functioning radios? He’s been talking about radios non stop since he washed ashore in Marseille.
Well, in 1x5 we finally saw him get a hold of a radio. It was in a flashback from right before he was taken aboard the French Research Vessel of Horror, where we also saw a character randomly named Grady!?!???
Totally side-eying that, particularly because we also met another dude named Juno, which @wdway brilliantly recognized as a reference to the Alaska state capital Juneau! Which, again, ties right into the north symbolism because of this license plate from 5x16 Conquer:
That’s the Big Dipper and Polaris (North Star) there on the Alaska state flag!
And remember how I in this post from last week talked about how tptb sometimes uses silly word plays as symbolism? Words and phrases that phonetically sound similar? Like serious/Sirius, beer/bear, Monet/money and the classic Del Arno Foods/"there are no foods"… (which was interestingly also taken from 5x16 Conquer, where we saw the Wolves luring walkers into trailer trucks, in a perfect parallel to what we saw in Daryl’s flashback from Maine,..)
Yeah, speaking of phonetical similarities...
In TWD 10x17 Home Sweet Home we heard Beth's name for the first time in a very long time...
Maggie has no reason to believe that Beth isn't dead so I wouldnt worry about that part. What's interesting is what she's calling her sister; Bethie!
If I was ever instructed to find a name that phonetically sounds like Bethie...
...Bessy sure as hell would be among my top contenders...
Bessy, as in the name the radio operator has assigned to his radio...
I have talked about how radios are Sirius symbolism, right? (that's a rhetorical question, I have talked about it ad nauseum)
And I think I have explained that Sirius means "return/resurrection/coming back" a couple of times as well...
Bessie the Radio sure seems to be well tuned into the symbolism around "returns" and people "coming back"...
You’re free to do with that as you please...👀

DD Season 2 Places and Things Known to be Filmed
I wanted to catalog the locations and objects filmed that have been spoiled for season 2. I must have had a premonition because the Twitter(X) account most of these originated from has been taken down. They all seem very legit, but I always take these with a grain of salt.
The Louvre: We know it will be used in a flashback to the beginning of the outbreak due to filming pictures with tons of extras in modern dress.
We also know that the “Walking Dead” Louvre will be blown up. Norman said in November 2022 on the Jimmy Fallon Show.
2. Fort De Cormeilles- They filmed here over the summer, and supposedly, they are filming here again later this month. Here is a little history of the fort from Wikipedia:
After 1940 the fort was used by the German occupiers as an ammunition depot for the German navy. Following World War II the fort was used to lodge members of the French Forces of the Interior (FFI), then as a prison until 1956. From 1956 the fort was used as lodging for prison workers at nearby facilities, such as the Prison de Fresnes. Housing was built on the surface of the fort, and the complex featured a nursery school. The last families, principally North Africans and the family of the fort's keeper, left the fort at the beginning of the 1970s. From 1965 to 1997 the fort was used as a commando training center.[1]
The Fort de Cormeilles is now the property of the Green Space Agency of the Île-de-France regional government. Preservation work is in the hands of the Association des Amis du Fort de Cormeilles, a volunteer group, which encourages the use of the facility by artists and by television and movie studios. Public visits are available every month and on special occasions.
So, it was used as a prison at one point. The picture of Norman was listed as a set picture from the summer filming in that area. Notice the black eye just as in Consumed.
3. Mont-Saint Michele: Zabel said that there are many other parts of the island which will be explored in Season 2.
4. The Alps: Crews were seen filming in the Alps in Southern France. No reports as to who, if anyone, from the cast was there. Mountains do show up in the Season 2 promo with the tag “Finding Home is to Find Each Other”
5. Ris Orangis- A set that looks like an abandoned horse track. They filmed for at least a week there.
6. Luzarches- a rural setting with horses seen on set. I notice there is a golf course just below the area which I found very interesting. According to what I can find, “Luzarches” is an area of only about eight miles. I almost wonder if it could, at least partially, be a cover for filming at the Golf Bluegreen Golf Course. located just below on the map.
So, we have the Louvre(Wolves), Fort De Cormeilles(a former prison), and Luzarches( a rural area right next to a golf course), and Mont-Saint Michele(the white church). Hmm….
Things:
Yellow Jeep- Seen on set multiple times
Red, Blue, White, and Yellow Plane- seen on set several times.
What I found out about this plane is:
It's called Beechcraft Bonanza V Tail. The plane was made from 1947-1982. It can carry four people. It will go 500-700 miles depending on passengers. It could fly further with fuel bladders on the inside, but fewer passengers could ride.
I saved the best for last. According to reports, crew members posted pictures and video of this cutie on set for multiple days.
So, we have a dog, horses, yellow jeep, yellow truck, and a plane with blue, yellow, red and white markings.
We know things are not filmed in order, but Zabel said in October that most of the first three episodes had been filmed. Again, according to spoiler, filming will continue until mid-December. Based on the locations, it almost seems as if they will be moving from north to south this time. This would make senses because season 3 is rumored to be set in Spain or Italy.
Thoughts?

Vision Board
Notes:
Find a best friend. This goal is probably the most important to me but also the most difficult. I have a hard time with people. Hugging – even family – is really hard for me. I am super shy and there is no one I am really close to. I do have people I consider friends, but even with them, I am not at ease. This has always been the case. I don't know why. Not sure how, but I will try to force myself to form relationships with people I admire and maybe i will find someone i can trust, talk freely with and take on any adventure without worry.
I really want a group of friends I can hang out with, have fun and just feel like i belong. Right now when i am invited to group events i have a hard time talking, i feel clumsy, boring and like an outsider.
I want to eat healthier. This is probably one of the standard goals everyone has on their lists. Right now, I have no discipline or rules. I want to learn more about what I am consuming and its effects on my body and the environment. One of the main goals is to gain control over my sugar addiction. Another goal is to eat and drink more things i really love (like fresh orange ) - even if they are more expensive and/or take more effort to prepare.
I definitely need to drink more. I've always had a hard time staying hydrated because I don't get thirsty often. I can go a day without drinking, only realizing I need to water when I have a headache the next day. I need to work on tracking my water intake and make it a habit to drink regularly, as it doesn't come naturally to me.
More city trips. I want to explore my country and Europe a bit more next year. I plan to do some short city trips, either alone or with a friend. On my list for this year are Paris, France, and Prague, Czech Republic. Additionally, I'd love to visit Mont Saint Michel, Barcelona, Chamonix, and many more. This category also includes attending events like concerts and festivals. Do you maybe have any beautiful city suggestions in Europe for me?
I want to go on a sailing adventure. My family already owns a very small boat, and I've been a few times with a university club, but I haven't learned much yet. My goal is to get the license and knowledge to steer a small dinghy and spend at least one summer traveling with it. While I might not be able to take lessons or sail this year, I can already work on the theoretical knowledge needed, mainly navigation and knots, to pass the exam.
Spend more time outside (in nature). Since I spend so much time on the computer and on my phone, I want to work on going outside more. I have a hammock I used to sleep in outside – maybe I can start doing that again. I also want to go camping more frequently, even just for a weekend to prepare for upcoming big hikes like e.g. E4.
Take more pictures. I used to take my camera everywhere and often visit locations because I heard they would be beautiful. At some point last year I stopped taking pictures. I think it was a good habit, since it also helped me remember all the cool stuff i did.
I will also go running again outside. Another activity i kinda stopped doing at some point but miss. Right now i am working on a training routine which will hopefully prepare me to run a half marathon again in a few months.
Adopt a dog. My dream is to one day adopt a dog. When I looked for puppies last year, I fell in love with a big white "ice bear". I wanted to call her Greta. Right now, a dog does not fit into my life, but maybe I can prepare. I will try to help out at the local animal shelter and work on passing the exam that will allow me to own a big dog.
Be more conscious about the environment. I see all the terrible things happening in the world and also how much trash I create. I know there is a lot more to do, but I will try to think about ways to make the world a better place starting with my own life.
Read more and stay up-to-date with what's going on in the world. I recently started reading books again and want to make it a habit. I will also try to stay informed by reading news articles now and then. If I can afford it, maybe I can subscribe to a daily news website.
Find a home. Right now i don't have a place i feel safe and at home at. My goal is to move into my own place with my boyfriend. I also need to organize and declutter my stuff which is all over the place and pure chaos atm. Let me know if you're interested in a post about this journey.
Get a job in the field I love and improve my skills. I finished my university degree this summer. I haven't found a job yet but hope I will soon.
Take notes and be more creative. I have a sketchbook and a list of creative things I want to learn/try out. Also, this blog is something I always wanted to start. I hope you like it, and I hope I will be able to keep posting! Feel free to dm me anything you think I could do better or let me know your thoughts in general ♡.
What are your goals this year and how does your vision board look? I am wayy too curious...

cut and * SIGHT*
so basically on twitter, someone whom I will not name said that and I quote : "There is a clear wealth disparity problem between the royals and their citizens that should be adressed; perhaps Celine shouldnt be praised for sending death squads after people who steal food when she lives in a giant more luxurious version of Mont Saint-Michel..." refering to Céline executing the highway men evocated in her supports with Alear so when I told them that no evidence from the game proved those thief were acting only out of necessity because of poverty and starving... guess who showed up ?
This guy is doing it on purpose I swear.
Yes Firene has a problem with bandits, but all those bandits live near the Brodian/Firenese border as shown by the fact that chapter 6 and paralogue 2 takes place around the same area. And the reason why is because it is the less protected place near Firene/Brodia so it's easier for them to target the people living near or rob off merchants traveling from Brodia. It is possible that some of those bandits are from Brodia since the game touches a lot on the damage caused by the war with Elusia, and that Yunaka was sold off because of this.
"Crime is cause by poverty" yeah, nope. In Fire emblem, when theif or bandits are acting out of necessity, it's usually established as the problemt to solve since this franchise is know for how it tackles that topic. There is many and countless examples of FE having thief or bandits acting because of poverty and in general this end up with the character having to show they will try to find a way to handle the economic problem or said bandits have a member of the group recruitable. However, FE also have examples of invidual that developped a real buissness of killing people and stealing from them. The highwaymen, the bandits in chapter 6 and paralogue 2 enters this category. Even if you wanna argue that it began by poverty, the bandits we are fighting are still people who made a real buisness of the suffering of others.
In her support with Alear, Céline mentions how those people kept on attacking merchants trading tea leaves so why would people who are hungry target those ? She also mentions that they causes countless victims, which goes against the original OP's affirmation that those bandits are nonlethaly stealing stuff. She also says that if she could just scare them away she would but she know she can't. Céline mentions how they supplied funds and added twice to the convoy security so she originally was planning to focus on defense. And because the theives all escaped and that she knew they would threaten her people again, she ended up giving the order to execute their base.
And she is not "praised" for it : Alear doesn't like this idea and made it clear in their B support, and in their A support, when Céline tells her she had no anguish, Alear told her to not let herself harden too much. And in both her solo and paired ending with Alear, it is said that her method to get rid of bandits is not liked too much by the Firenese because of how pacifist they are.
In chapter 6, the bandits are clearly portrayed as acting on greed rather then out of necessity : one of the bandits wanted to secretly sell the ring to have all the money for himself, so I don't think they are doing this because "they care about each other" or whatever they had going on. And the boss of this chapter straight up says they killed ALL the villagers.
Also Mitan, the one we fight in paralogue has nothing to do with the highwaymen Céline kills in her support with Alear. She is possibly not even from Firene seeing how her name isn't linked to Fashion brand and that she wears darker colors. But one thing for sure : she isn't a poor frail maiden. She might have her clothed tattern but I see no evidence that it is because she is poor when she wears a freaking armor, more like her clothes got tattern from fighting. And I find it weird that the OP said she wasn't trying to harm anna but just taking her hostage, as if it's not the same thing. But if the bandits find Anna before Alear does, the bandits will literaly kill her on the spot. So i don't think someone who is a kind hearted bandits just trying to help her men have a roof on the head when we literaly fight them in their LAIR (but for reason the OP was arguing the game was trying to imply that said lair was an ancient Firene millitary ) would try to sell of a little girl, keep her hostage or possibly kill her off since I repeat, in FE this kind of folks are usually tender with kids. Mitan isn't. And I find the OP justifying that her stealing people isn't empovering them (when she still stole their beloging) but saying they understoof where Mitan was coming from to try to sell of a little kid but not a Princess that have to deal with bandits who robb, kill and terrorize her people and has no other ressort to stop them then kill them, I have my reserves...
And for the claim they are poor let me say this. Those bandits still are fully clothed with proper material to rob off people, so how do they have that ? Even if you argue they gain it by stealing it, this means they didn't sold said material to gain what they wanted (food, clothes etc) but that they are using it to gain more money. And that's the word : money. They are only stealing valuable objects and/or robbing off people of their money. And they are doing this to severals village and to people that are merchants. They are having very, very big targets.
people who steals for food or because they are too poor are targeting smaller target and either steals food either some money, but they don't have the luxury to be this picky in their robbery : in shorts, I am talking about pick-pockets. And those people don't kill thousand of villagers.
This how Yunaka's past is handled : they tell the entire story of how she fall into crime and that's clearly not pleasing, but Yunaka is BRODIAN and Diamant as whole discourse about how he is gonna fix the problem that Brodia has.
Also, Firene is one of 1/the wealthiest country of all 2/the most philantropic so if those were created because of poverty and wealth problem knowing that the commoners in Firene can dress like that
you really think that the narrative would never try to tackle it ? TO have Céline or Alfred suggest they furnish help rather then having to kill those bandits ?
In chapter 6, Alfred suggested help for Yunaka when he saw her crying saying that as the Prince, he can't stay blind to the suffering of his people. Alfred literaly went digging himself a well to help his people. In chapter 17, he mentions how they gave as much money as necessary to help rebuil Florra port and taking care of the survivors.
The Royal family as the mean and the will to solve economics problem if there is, but those bandits that are targeting the Firenese people are clearly aren't doing it just because they are poor, but for profits sake. They clearly amassed quite the fortune to be able to have this material, but they are using it to buy means to threaten even more people to gain even more money.
And again, I am forced to reiterate it but at no point the game tries to say "yeah they are doing it because they are poor" no. It doesn't. If it did, the narrative would handle it differently because Fire Emblem already handled that kind of stuff countless time. And if the arguments is that in real life poverty leads to crime, might I remind you we are talking about fictional characters ? The only valid way to affirm this is if the game had given such motivation to those bandits character. It didn't. And again, irl, the people we fight are closer to irl life pirates or gang then people who do it to get out of misery, you know ? Those who oppress poorer then they are. They do worse then in FE ; they steal, the r*pe, they kill, children, women, old people etc. They harm travelers that have no means to defend themselves and takes pleasure in the suffering of others. They aren't doing this because they are poor, they are doing this because it's easier to make money exploting other then working earnestly to have it. And even if they started doing this for poverty and starvation reasons, the fact that they keep on doing this when they clearly gained money from their previous crimes and keep on killing people is invalidating any attempt at saying that they are the victim in all of this. That claim that people are never doing such awful stuff without the reason being poverty and starving needs to stop. Yes it can cause it, but you can perfectly have people who have the means to survive doing this simply because they can gain more and more easliy through this.
Because if they really were just trying to survive why not becoming a mercenary ? Why not ?
Céline's method may be harsh, but when your people who work hard and peacefully are endangered by the likes of them, what would you do ? And the OP insisted that their life are considered to be lower then humane : didn't the bandits considered the life of the villangers they robbed from to be lower then human ?
And Firene isn't the only place dealing with bandits since Solm has the exact same problem resulting in Timerra and Fogado having to patrol themselves to protect their people !! And in chapter 13, you canonically cannot save at least one of the villager house, so you really wanna make me believe they are doing this just because they are as poor as the random villagers ?
There are poor people in the kingdoms, but those aren't the bandits we fight : it's Marni's mother who left her at the church, it's Griss and Gregory's parent who sold their own son to an evil cult, because they had too much mouth to feed. Its Yunaka's parent who left her with a literal serial killer or Seadall who was taken over by a professional dancer.
I simply can't. I can't. And If you still don't think Firene would have helped them if they were poor and starving, I can only direct you to those posts :
Also
ladies and gentlemen it comes from the man who loves a game where all route ends up with a different form of monarchy and defend a 17 year old who hired literal bandits to kill her classmates. And in a game where he calls said bandit an imbecile but who knew, maybe poor Kostas was actually just doing it because he was starving ? As if the game didn't tried to make him playable at some point or had one of his man claim he was being deceived by Eddie who left him to die....
I know you can't read either of this Raxis, but I beg you. Stay away from me, my blog or Engage in general since you expressed very explicitely you didn't liked it. Go defend your Lady as you always do and stay in 3H circles, the game you like.

🏰Build Process & Guide💁♂️
I'm making this in-depth post about my process, @lordoftablecloths asked how i planned the build and ill make this a separate post for all interested, this might be pretty long so it'll be under the cut, i'll add pictures where i can to help explain :3 will contain mostly explanations why i did what i did with a few technical tips mixed in.
I • Introduction & Inspiration
I'm going to try and structure this like a guide from the bottom up on how i made my castle build. let it be known that the order I've presented here isn't the exact order i built it in, and you don't have to follow exactly either, I'm choosing an order that i hope makes the most sense. whether you're planning a castle in creative or survival i hope this is useful. as for what inspired the look of the castle, its hard to pin down anything exactly, i love the look of places like Neuschwanstein Castle and Mont-Saint-Michel to give some basic examples, i recommend looking around Wikipedia (and the rest of the internet) for examples of existing churches castles fortresses etc around the world to draw from, sometimes you can even find floor plans and architectural drawings etc on google images
I HIGHLY recommend you build with XYZ coordinates enabled! even in survival it can help with your builds, it can be enabled in the settings on world creation or by using the command:
/gamerule showcoordinates true
II • Picking a Build Location
I started a new world with normal settings creative mode and cheats (i also use world-edit but won't be going over that in this post as i barely understand it myself lol) basically just fly around your world until you see some interesting looking geography, a certain biome, anything that brings you some inspiration
this castle mount i found is isolated by itself in a small valley between two large ridges and a river, thus i thought a castle would be the perfect thing to build here, there's plenty of room for a town as well
III • Terraforming & Laying Foundations
when starting a foundation on a hill/slope i try and find a good flat area to start clearing, you can shave off a few layers to get a level starting area, what to then do to get a terraced look is simply stand on your top level, sneak to the edge, and while keeping your Y level look straight down and fill outwards as far as you can reach, this will make 4 block high walls; exact heights are always up to you, treat every number like a suggestion and build what YOU think looks good! the number of tiers is also your choice, multiple is nice if you want multilevel walkways implemented into any steep area you want to be more accessible.
and dont forget to extend your build material all the way into the ground!
IV • Central Core & Courtyard
I think the very first thing i put on the mountain was the circle which would eventually be the main tower, acting as a main core for the building containing the main starway and a throne room at the top. I'd suggest having multiple intersecting shapes for your base, as you can build each of those shapes up in and out in separate ways the higher you go, which is pretty much the philosophy i had for this build, just remember to account for multiple stairways if you separate those shapes higher up.
i figured there should be some sort of tiered system of courtyards and walls since the hill has a natural gentle(ish) slope on the west. if you have the space for it i recommend filling in some green spaces for your castle residents, don't be afraid to have a steep cutoff like in the above image, you can put a castle wall or structure there later. for me, i wanted it to feel like a hike up to the castle through a winding path of gates, stairs, courtyards, and green areas
The hall with the rainbow windows was the first enclosed room i built, essentially a chunk of the floorplan reserved for a kind of reception space/grand entrance, once you've got a basic foundation down a small building like this can help you get a grasp of what kind of style/materials the rest of the castle will have. this is where i decided the castle would consist of stone brick foundations, smooth stone walls, a band of bricks on each floor; this can be super helpful while building inside and outside, i also like how it looks.
V • Main Building Facade
since i didn't want this entire build to be a blob of stone bricks i decided to add a decorative facade on the outside of the main keep, the idea is to have more blackstone near the top, to emphasize that the upper parts contain more important... stuff :P
these are built more or less outside of the main stone walls (except for some window protrusions) this means the interior rooms won't have to have one weird wall of blackstone, as i wanted the inside of the castle to have relatively plain smooth stone rooms
VI • "Defensive" Walls & Extra Foundations
castles need some sort of protection against people wandering in, right? the placement of these outer walls was kinda random, i just tried to enclose some courtyard spaces without going out too far to keep the walls a reasonable height
the way most of the outer walls were built was i started with a one block wide guide, making sure i didnt cut off any diagonals so that when built up there would be a small but navigable corridor within them (see below) this way people/guards etc. can move about the lower areas of the castle complex without being seen. I tried to keep most of the walls like this 3 blocks wide with a step out to 5 blocks at the top to account for a 3x path with walls/battlements on both sides
i also added towers at junctions to sort of act like small hubs (useful for stairways, ladders, guard barracks, defensive supplies and buildings etc.
VII • Other Structures
a castle build can be more than just a keep and some walls, some supporting structures are:
the windmill(s), if the people here are growing grain they must have somewhere to mill it, right? of course all you need to actually do that is a crafting table, stuff like this also won't move (unless you use a mod like technic, but bedrock users are SOL for mods like that afaik) but i like to add elements of realism into my builds, suspend your disbelief!
the "library", originally this was going to be a sparring arena, then a temple, then a library, but as of now there's a much better stocked library in the central keep, i'm trying to think of what to turn this into,
the alchemist's tower, a detached tower containing a brewing lab along with a nether portal and some ingredient storage. only accessible via a small bridge, if i ever expand the dungeons or construct a sewer system i'll consider connecting it through a new stairway in here 🤫
VIII • Farms & Irrigation
this is the first field of crops i built for the castle (intended to be private and for the castle only), very simple with some covered water troughs for irrigation, i didn't plan the stepped farms until much later so this will probably get changed without completely redoing it, maybe turned into a greenhouse with farmed flowers
the newer farms cover much more area and have more variety, as well as a more organic looking irrigation system, these might be extended even further at some point to be a food source for the whole area.
there are small channels of waterlogged stair blocks i've kinda snaked through the farmland to make quarter block wide water channels, my idea is that this castle sits on a (possibly mystical) spring which feeds the fresh water needs of the castle complex and town (aqueducts may appear in the future)
IX • Outer Wall Details
since having nothing but flat walls isnt very interesting, i'll show some ways to give them more... visual texture? interest? either way.
you can really just stick a layer of arches or even simple columns over a flat wall and itll look 10x better
i recommend stair and wall blocks mainly for this, if you're building in wood you can use trap doors to add just a little more to an arch
X • Floor Appearance & Hierarchy
one of the most important things to decide when i start a build is what floor height i want to have, i try to keep each floor in the castle the same height for consistency. below i have an example of six floors with different block heights
I always try to have each floor made of distinct layers (the stone brick band helps me remember where the floor block is supposed to be) the way i like to do it is as follows (top to bottom):
[1 Block] floor, solid block, this is the floor of the next level
[1-3 Blocks] ceiling, i like to use stairs and slabs so you dont see the bottom of the next floor up, but you can decide if you want that to show or not, using single lines of slabs can look like wood beams
[2-5 Blocks] walls and windows, the main section of the wall, solid
[1 Block] guide layer made of a different material, or just use the same throughout, this should be where your legs are
[1 Block] floor, solid block, you'll walk upon this
about the hierarchy, thats just relating to the fact that i didnt want (too many) glass windows in the dungeon sections of the castle, i wanted it to feel cold, grimy, and drafty ya know? so the lowest levels have a few iron barred windows as well as a bunch of slit windows made using stair blocks, there are also more and more windows the higher up you go. There are some windows that extend out each floor as well
XI • Interior Details
The lowest parts of the castle consist of stonebrick halls, storage rooms, connections to the outer wall corridors, and possibly forgotten paths to the depths... as stated earlier i try to have a floor material, and a wall+ceiling material
above: undercroft level, steel bar windows, stone brick, dingy
below: mid-level central keep (facing south) the windows here are glass, but still small, wood floors throughout, upper floors get the benefit of more natural light
pictured above is the central spiral staircase, it does take up quite a bit of the floorspace, but the wide and easy slope makes it easier to navigate so i think its worth it
the most fantastical details are currently in the ballroom, library, and throne room but im running out of picture slots so onto the next category
XII • Spires & Roofing
all of the roofing (aside from some detailing on the entrance hall) is mangrove wood, and i recommend choosing one roofing material to have throughout, though you'll see here that i'm using red nether brick walls, why? Well fence blocks don't connect to wall blocks, and iron rods won't connect to fence blocks (if this is bedrock only or something let me know..) i find it really useful to add these alternating stacks of those blocks to make quite sharp looking points along the ridges of the roof. i recommend trying out whatever different color palettes you can with the blocks we have in-game
the heights of the stacks also go up the higher (and thus farther away) you go, meaning the highest ridges will have 3 of each block stacked, like 3,3,3 and 2,2,2 instead of the 1,1,1 seen in the foreground above
XIII • :3
thank u for coming to my ted talk! i might update this post to add some clarity if i need to, hope you enjoyed it if you made it this far. I had fun writing it up, might do more posts like this in the future.

hiii its an active content day for me 🐸 finally starting on writing kero into kkc scenes, this is pretty short but i wanted to establish why/how they end up going with the others to mont saint michel. i also included the relevant manga pages at the end so u can imagine them there 💕
The ringing in their ears--that was all there was at first. Harsh and shrill, so loud they could barely hear their heart pounding underneath it. Then it was was the ache, blooming all across their body and sharpened at the edges by a sting. They try to sit up, but their world having so recently been turned on its head makes their stomach lurch with the effort, and they have to stop before they tumble further down whatever grassy ditch they landed in.
Voices start to cut through the noise, and they reach for the closest as it turns familiar. Lise--right, Lise’s voice. They’d been sitting with her and the others in the back of the circus truck, when there was--something, an explosion maybe, and they’d all been sent flying. Kero had grabbed onto Lise, more out of instinct than anything. And then the pain, the ringing, the ache; at least they softened the blow for her, hopefully.
There’s another voice, too, unfamiliar, coasting over something they can’t place. Too quiet to be caught under the still pulsing ring, but the noise is sharp; a creaking, metal-on-metal tick that sets their nerves on edge--
A scream cuts through the haze, and the aches fall away as Kero’s focus comes to a narrow point. One hand closes around a clammy, trembling shoulder as the other plants in the dirt to force themselves upward. Their vision is still fuzzy, whether from smoke or concussion, and the shapes in front of them don’t make sense; massive, towering not-quite animals, twisted bodies staring through them as a predator watches prey. They shudder, nearly freezing then, but they can hear Ryouko crying again, and they force themselves forward.
“Fuck, what the fuck,” is all Kero manages as their arms wrap around the two girls in front of them. They try to pull them back, turn to shield the girls with their body, but they barely even have time to breathe before the animal-things are bounding towards them all teeth and claws, and the only thing they can do is squeeze their eyes shut and hope they aren’t screaming, too.
Something blows past them, so close they feel a sudden burn as the corner of a claw takes a chunk out of their earlobe--but it’s far less than the evisceration they’d been expecting. The realization goes through them like a shock, and just as quick, they’re pushing up onto shaky legs and pulling the girls up with them, instinct driving their body before their head can wrap around why they aren’t dead yet.
“Go, move, now!” The second all three are on their feet, Kero starts to push the girl out in front of them. They don’t know where to turn, which direction is safe, but they know they have to run and get as far away as they can. Even if part of them knows they won’t be able to outrun creatures like that--if they could even be called creatures.
“We have to stand our ground!” Lise protests, but Kero just keeps pushing, following along behind Ryouko as she sprints for a thatched house a few yards away.
“Standing our ground will get us killed, Lise!” They can feel that man--an automata, they’re sure now--glaring into their back, and it’s all they can do to keep their feet steady and not trip over their own fear.
It almost works, until they hear the pounding of claws against the dirt as the automata yells to take their heads.
That’s when the terror seizes them--and when Lise suddenly stops in her tracks.
“What are you doing?!” Kero nearly runs right into her, and has to skid to the side to avoid knocking her down, instead bumping into Ryouko as they turn on their heel. Lise doesn’t answer them; she just stands, shoulders squared, and all too calmly takes a carpetbeater hanging off the nearby clothesline.
“Kero, Ryouko. Please, just watch me.” She glances back at the two, seeming to pay no heed to the automata monsters running towards them, towards her. No trace of fear weighs her down or cracks the unshakable confidence that now radiates from her.
“I’m still a wild animal tamer.”

4 16 29 30 for the not from the US ask game 😁
“hi, I’m not from the US” ask set
given how Americanised this site is, it’s important to celebrate all our countries and nationalities - with all their quirks and vices and ridiculousness, and all that might seem strange to outsiders.
4. favourite dish specific for your country? That's an easy one, since I'm from Britanny my answer will be galettes (a savoury buckwheat crêpes filled with nice things such as ham, cheese and eggs).
16. which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with? There are two stereotypes on France that I truely despise: no, French people do not have a hygene problem. I'll have you know that we are up to date with modern commodities, namely bathrooms, and are very well acquainted with soap. And no, we do not hate Americans, however we do hate the entitled behaviour some Americans have when they travel abroad. Now, that being said, it is true that French people are obsessed with food and really love cheese.
29. does your region/city have a beef with another place in your country? Well, as I said I am from Britanny and I grew up in Normandy, so yeah. There is a long-living rivalry and dispute between Britanny and Normandy over the rightful ownership of the Mont-Saint-Michel. This can be a bit violent.
30. do you have people of different nationalities in your family? Yes, actually. My sister in law is from Latvia. She met my brother in Germany (thanks Erasmus) and now, that where they live with their two kids.

Cultural christianity, and what it can look like
I often-ish see people get all upset and angry when cultural christianity is brought up, taking it as an insult. Most likely, they feel insulted because of past trauma related to abusive behaviour in the sect of christianity they were raised in. That, or they have delusions of grandeur about how rational and special and immune to religion they are and how dare people assume their perfect rational minds are affected in any way? (Don't worry, it's OK, I went through that phase too when I was a teen).
First off, I live in France, a country that has historically been rather Christian, Catholic to be exact, and only fairly recently moved towards more secular structures. Yes, a century since the law on secularism is a short time for a nation. Debate is still raging on what form that secularism should take, and talking about that debate would be a whole other post.
I was raised in a rather atheist familly, due in part to religious trauma in both my parents (even if they wouldn't necessarily think of it that way). My interactions with Catholicism have been limited to visiting churches for the art and stained glasses, a baptism I do not remember (due to being a baby at the time) and a handful of funerals. And I am going to supply you with an exemple of cultural christianity : last Saturday, I had a Catholic moment.
This was fairly topical, one could say, as I was going to visit the Mont Saint-Michel (very pretty, breathtaking vistas, strong recommend). I stopped at a supermarket to buy food for the road, and for the visit, one does need energy to climb up and down repeatedly on that rock, and everything costs an arm, a leg and the soul of your firstborn over there (or lots of money, if you're boring). I see a homeless person sitting outside, quietly hoping people give him some money. I walk along, awkward because I don't have money and I'd rather not have to tell someone "sorry, I can't help you, I don't have cash". I think this is bad, and resolve to buy him a sandwich, which I do. I also give him the sandwich, because just buying it on its own really isn't enough, the man can't eat his sandwich if I drive off with it, really defeats the purpose of the act.
Anyway. I sit down in my car, and have idle thoughts about how maybe that'll help me get the job I recently applied to and ... the Catholic Moment begins. Why am I hoping that? What can that realistically do? Did I give that man a sadnwich for selfish, supersititious reasons? Why would I "taint" this act of kindness with that superstition I don't even believe in?
And then the Catholic Moment ends. And I reassert reality. The guy doesn't care what was going on in my head when I bought and gave him a sandwich, he cares that he has a sandwich. He was smiling, thanked me and said it was nice. Who cares what was going on upstairs, I still gave him the damn sandwich. It's still an improvement in his life, however small. And it's OK to have idle thoughts about that kind of small hope, who cares so long as I don't try to force that on other people. And if it motivates other people to help someone, all the better. That act isn't tainted just because I thought the "wrong thoughts". The dude has his sandwich.
And that is cultural Christianity. I am an atheist, mostly by lack of care about spirituality, but still. But I was raised in a society that is still largely Catholic shaped. My parents were raised as Catholics and broke away later. My grandparents were Catholics. Their own parents were too. And looking back, a lot of my ancestors were more on the poor side of things, which made them even more Catholic.
That doesn't make me evil or bad or wrong. That just means my social and cultural software is cross-shaped due to centuries of previous updates being cross-shaped. And removing bits and bobs from it, and adding a few more, isn't going to change that. I just need to keep that in mind, so I can use that software in a way that takes into account people with non-cross-shaped software, and make sure I don't react in ways that hurt them.
The societies and cultures we live in were built over centuries or millenia, and are marked by our ancestors and what they believe in. You can break some walls, put in bigger windows and change the drapes, it's still the same building, and the crosses scratched into the mortar haven't gone away. But those crosses aren't stopping you from being more open, more friendly to other people. They don't stop people with software that isn't cross-shaped to set up their room as they please.
Just because you live in a building with crosses scratched into the mortar and the bricks, just because those crosses have been scratched into your brain by familliarity and repeatedly being seen, it doesn't make you evil, it doesn't make you wrong. It just means you've grown in there, and you may need to keep that in mind, to make sure those crosses scratched into your brain don't end up hurting someone or blinding you to someone's hurt.
Where you come from, where you grew up, doesn't reduce your worth as a human, and it's OK to carry on stuff from there. We all do. It's not a moral failing. All we're saying, is to take a good look at what those bits do to you, how they motivate your actions, and most importantly, when they tell you not to listen to others.
One of these little brain crosses is telling you that you're right, and everyone that thinks otherwise is wrong, because there is only One Truth, but are you sure you want to listen to that little cross? Are you sure you want to listen to the same little cross that caused your friend, parent, trusted adult figure, to hurt you and refuse to listen to you? Isn't it worth a go to listen to people whose software isn't cross-shaped, and try to understand where they come from?
It's not easy, I'm not going to lie. @athingofvikings can tell you, I stumbled a fair few times, in parts because he is litterally the first Jewish person I actually talked to. But he is a friend, a dear one, and I feel blessed to have met him and become his friend. I stumbled, but I keep my mind open to see my mistakes and correct them, and I do what I can to make sure those brain crosses aren't hurting people, and I got several great friends out of the deal. Imagine the friends you can find, if you just accept them as they are and keep the crosses in check?

Astraea's Interlude aka Beating Forgiveness into Bedivere
Finally!! Astraea's Interlude is released in the NA version which means we get to help Bedi with his remaining hang-ups.
I suppose it's too much to ask for any more Bedivere appearances in the main story considering he already got a chapter all to his own, but I sure am going to jump at any chance to see him in other events, so I'm super glad I got Astraea during this year's Valentines. Now onto the Interlude!
Long post, so I'll put it all below under the cut, and this goes without saying, but spoilers for Astraea's Interlude and general Lostbelt and Camelot Chapter plot points!
Right from the start of the 2nd segment which features Bedivere, there is already one detail that tears at my heart - this background of open fields is the same one as Bedivere's own Interlude, because it's the view which reminds him of his failure to save Princess Helena from the Giant of Saint Mont Michel. I'm not sure how intentional it is, but I'm fairly sure this was a deliberate choice.
Before we get to resolving Bedi's issues though, Astraea comments on Ritsuka's first. Another similarity between Ritsuka and Bedivere, really, the fact that they feel guilt for something they've done/are doing and man Ritsuka needs a LOT of therapy when all of this is over.
He....;__;
Oh, btw...I never noticed it before, only when I read TV Tropes, but the nickname "Bedi" isn't actually used in game during Camelot. Merlin does use "Bedi" if you ask him about sending Bedivere in the Babylonia chapter, but not Ritsuka.
Ritsuka calls Bedivere that in the movie adaptations though, and it got backported into the game in this Interlude. (I do have a bit of a laugh at that, the fact that Ritsuka/Gudao nicknamed Bedivere in the movies and Bedivere just rolled with it, no questions asked).
What you do have the choice of calling Bedivere once in the Camelot chapter is "Beddy".
"Beddy" makes me think of "teddy" in teddy bear lol. Teddybear - Bedivere sound awfully similar now that I think about it...
Cue me jumping in the background saying, "How was he to know it was going to turn Artoria into a jerkass goddess??"
While it it true that the Lion King is a truly warped existence of Artoria...poor Bedivere never heard her last words, if he did maybe it could have relieved him of his guilt, but he already dissipated by the time the Lion King said this.
In a strange way...Bedivere actually did save something of himself in making that choice, because it led him to meeting Chaldea and in turn, being heroic enough to be recorded in the Throne of Heroes. But of course he wouldn't see it that way.
The fact that Ritsuka's dialogue choices are pretty much screaming "Don't beat yourself up for this!" tho - gahh, my heart!!!
I would have to be willfully blind to ignore the terrible things in Camelot, because so many people did die (Rushd's mother just being one of them) but I stand by the fact that Bedivere did nothing wrong, ever.
All half-jokes aside, I think it would be more painful to have caused so much damage when you did it with good intentions.
...I really don't like it, but I guess beating self-forgiveness into Bedivere is a good option at this point.
In this battle, Bedivere starts out with "Feeling Guilty" which lowers his ATK and DEF every turn. Also, I defeated him quickly with the Asvatthaman I borrowed, but I don't think he uses Calm and Collected, he only ever used Oath of Protection as a skill.
I'm so so sorry for beating you up with fiery hot wheels man my sweet Bedivere -
Even if it was for your own good -
Astraea says a lot of stuff here, but basically it goes, "Uh, no, man. We're here to help you. You're good."
I'm not quite sure I agree with everything Astraea said here, but in this case what Bedivere really was looking for was absolution. Taking into consideration his character as the knight of loyalty, I guess he couldn't get rid of the nagging feeling that a punishment had to be handed to him, it's the only way he could make up for his mistake. Though really, he's not alone in that regard, Lancelot and Tristan have the same mentality when it comes to their failures to their King.
I do wish all of the KotR will be allowed to move on from that hang-up, but time will tell if they'll get that character development. Mordred seems to have moved away from that fixation with Artoria in her writing out of all of the KotR I currently have.
And we finally get to this point - the matter really was Bedivere's remaining sense of regret.
I wonder if canonically, Astraea suplexed Bedivere before giving him this therapy talk. Must have been one heck of a therapy session.
Ha, but Bedivere poking fun at Astraea is great.
And seeing him smile at the end is so sweet!
Ahhh, and the fact that when Astraea compliments Bedivere's show of courage, Ritsuka sounds so proud, like, hell yeah, that's my boy!!!
We love and support our one armed silver knight in this household...even if the love and support comes in the form of justice suplexes at times. So glad to finally see this Interlude play out but uh, I actually have to finish it and see if there's any more Bedi appearances lol, I was way too excited to post my thoughts that I haven't even finished the whole thing lol. And even then I pretty much hit the limit for images in one post, whoops. This scene was just too good though, I feel bad for cutting out some of the screenshots because it's already so long as it is.

몽생미셸 해변의 남자 PART 3 | Man on the shores of Mont Saint Michel PART 3
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Of many days and seasons, of storm and sun, I have crept into the deity's arms.
I know nothing of what we are.
Are we lovers?
Are we to each's comfort of pain?
That blue, that feeling.
I grow buds of emotions I cannot make myself name.
I believe and the next day, I do not.
"Out of all the things to be, why mortal?" He sighs one day, his hand in my hair and my head on his chest. "You cannot be alike I." He mourns. "I cannot be human."
The god I've come to worship sobbed, pearls stringing out of his eyes. The eyes I love so; cries for my demise.
"I hate you so, I do." He wails, holding me tightly. "But in all that matters, you live, you die, and I will love you again."
"Oh, you love me, don't you? You love me." He hopes aloud, and I have come to silently agree with what I have felt for so long since.
"Till the day the depths rise, only you." I promised him.
He loved me, "To err is this love, but you are divine."
"And I find you divine," I love back, "The Abbey will not love and worship you, but I will."
And for what I could remember as I drowned in the ocean of bliss, we loved.

Nail in your coffin / Daybreak It was early morning. [1] A moment of rest before entering deep water. [2] The amygdala still recovering, while the world outside never rested to begin with. Kati wakes up. She notes the effect of early morning sunlight, which gave the impression that the light is generated by the building itself. How I accidentally camped in the ghetto of Creteil
So I ride back from Le Mont Saint Michel and arrive at midnight back in Paris. I get adopted and they lend me their detached spare room. I saw a bed bug, and knowing nothing about them, I laid a white sheet on the bed so I could see if there were any more, got in my mummy sack to shield myself and turned off the light. I dived into a bed bug rabbit hole on YouTube and realized bed bugs don’t roam alone. I turned on the light in paranoia and saw 3 more surrounding me on the white sheet. Not today, Satan!
I learned they die in seconds from exposure to extreme heat and good thing there was a heater in the room, so I spent the next 4 hours literally rotating and burning all my stuff. I was 100% I killed anything that might have hopped on my stuff because when I put my moto jacket on to leave, it was still so hot it burned my skin. If you do something, do it well 😺
It’s 4am and I wasn’t about to call my new friend. What do I do? Do I ride 4am all mentally cracked out 30 minutes to the countryside to camp or do I just set up my tent next to the sidewalk? Yes, sidewalk it is! The next morning as I’m packing up, a woman says something to me in French. I think she’s telling me to leave and that I’m trespassing, but she calls someone over who speaks English and has him translate. He tells me, “You are crazy for camping here. This is the ghetto and you are right in the center. There is trafficking here and when they wake up, they will bother you, your bike and your stuff.” I didn’t know it was the ghetto. The bed bugs kicked me out 🤷♀️
You would think I would be shocked, but after the long ride into the night, the bed bug adventure and then camping in a big city, I just laughed. I was thinking “Bring it on, how much more crazy can the last 24 hours get?” I thank them for telling me. The woman gives me a hug and tells me she loves me. So sweet. She saved me. I hurry up and pack and leave.
I don’t know how I get so lucky sometimes

Hi lys. 9, 10, 13, 14, 22, 23, 24.
Have a nice day/evening/night.
hey, thanks for sending! hope you have a wonderful day/night :)
9. What's your all time favourite movie/tv show? Honestly Idk... it's either I can't choose or I cannot remember titles now. A fav movie of mine anyway could probably be a Disney animation (very likely) like The Sword in the Stone or something like that. There are many movies I like but I cannot really choose not mention them atm sorry... oh wait Minamata. I mentioned it not long ago because I was thinking about photography so yeah. That one too was good.
10. What are you enjoying to do in your free time? These days I enjoy napping/sleeping, I'm really tired tbh. But in general I work out or draw/paint (even if lately I'm not doing the last 2 almost at all)
13. Your dream place to visit? I have a bunch of particular places I'd like to visit like Iceland (for the nature and hopefully the Northern Lights), Easter Island, Salar de Uyuni, that place in Denmark (Grenen/Skagen) where the Baltic meets the North Seas but not mix, Jindo Island, Mont Saint Michel... but ofc I'd be okay with just visiting other cities/countries.
14. Something you wish you were better at? Everything? I'm never satisfied about what I do but I'm working on that. I'm trying to be more accepting of what I do, because I always do my best even if the result is not exactly like I would want it to be (our minds just cannot consider our "humanity" at times, so we should start teaching them about it ig).
22. Best memory you could think of? I think I have already mentioned it but anyway, it's about my dog. We were in a park, he was playing with other dogs when I got thirsty so I went to a little fountain to drink. It was like a few meters away from my father (I was a kid). I didn't make 2 steps away from him that I found my dog right by my side looking up at me. So I looked back and then kept on moving towards the fountain. Once there, there were 2 cyclists that wanted to drink so I stopped moving to let them drink, but my dog (a german shepherd) started barking until they had to take their bikes and move away. At that point my dog looked at me like "didn't you want to drink?" and so I went to drink, he drank right after me, then walked me close enough to my dad and ran back to the other dogs. My dad was laughing so hard, so as the other dogs' owners. To me it was like nothing special? Idk. Oh the cyclists could go back to drink then. I want to add my dog wasn't trained, nobody could have ever succeeded in that lol (I could only teach him a few tricks but related to playing together, never orders like sit or lay... he did that only when he wanted to, otherwise he would have given you a face like "why?" and I mean he was right). He was just him, a stubborn free spirit. But he was a fast learner and a very good thinker/empath, so he just usually came up himself with such (often protective) behaviours.
23. Worst memory you can think of? I have a bunch, and they're all about (TW) losses. For example ofc my dog and grannies. Not gonna go in detail ofc, I also don't wanna trigger any of you. (/TW) A year and a half/2 years ago as well it was kinda a long bad period. But bad moments and losses are part of life, we take what's best and go on, right? :)
24. Do you have any fears? Sure, I'm plenty. As humans, we all have fears and there's nothing wrong in having them. It all depends on how we deal with them. If we let them win us over and control us, or if we try to at least have a talk with them and check if there's anything right or reasonable in what they're pointing out to us. If we're able to take ourselves by the hand and try to go on or do what we really want to despite the fear. And... especially when I'm stressed I don't like (TW)using knives or scissors or needles or anything that could potentially cut/harm me (it's ocd ig).(/TW) I also suffer a bit from vertigos but mostly there are things that make me pretty uncomfortable.
