I don't know if you've touched on this but do you have any analysis that might explain why so many people think Cass is the "favorite" child? I've been seeing so many tweets and tiktoks about it (along with people pointedly snubbing Tim and saying he's the least favorite for whatever reason) and I'm not sure if it s joke because aside from the whole 'she's the only girl' explanation I don't think Bruce has ever expressed any sort of personal interest in Cass. He respects her fighting abilities and staunch no-killing morals but when she was mind-controlled by Deathstroke he turned on her pretty quick (so did Dick I think?). Not even considering the possibility that she was acting out of character and I'm pretty sure Tim was the only one defending her and pointing out that something was off. It was just interesting to me to see so many people thinking they were significantly closer than I believe is supported by canon and I was just wondering if I have missed something or just completely misread their relationship because Bruce does not seem all that close to Cass for her to even be considered in the running for "favorite child".

Twitter was the Bad Place long before Muskrat bought it and the only TikTok opinions I've ever heard that had any basis in canon reality came from PandaRedd, and I don't even know if he's still posting, I haven't heard from him in a while. So I have no idea what they're saying over there and quite frankly I don't want to think about it.

That said, the idea that Cass is Bruce's "favorite" is fairly common around fandom. For the most part I do think her being the only girl and fandom's knee-jerk tendency to make women perfect angels with no flaws whom everyone loves and adores out of a misplaced belief that doing so is the height of feminism plays a big part in that, buuuut I am also very much of the opinion that even the most out-there fandom misinterpretations almost certainly have their seeds somewhere in canon.

So I'd say -- mostly just based on gut instinct -- that some of it probably also stems from the connection mentioned in my last reblog. The fact that Bruce and Cass are so in-sync when it comes to The Mission and that said Mission is so fundamentally important to both of them, means it's not unreasonable to see how and why he'd favor her. I've heard Cass's Batgirl described as "the embodiment of everything good Batman was supposed to be," and you can see how people would extrapolate out from that to her being especially important to Bruce as a result.

All that on the table though, I don't think it's true. I don't actually think Bruce has a "favorite," I think he genuine does value all of his proteges for their unique strengths, worries over their unique struggles and is proud of the unique people they've become without feeling the need to rank them against each other.

But if he did have one? There's no contest in my mind -- it has to be Dick. They have the longest and most complex relationship. They're partners, brothers, mentor and student, father and son, master and disciple, sage and scholar -- they're soulmates, in the truest sense of the word. Nightwing is better than Batman, better than anything Bruce ever dreamed Batman could be, capable of doing more good for more people. Dick is his pride and joy, the best thing Bruce has ever done, the solid, tangible proof that, if nothing else, he could make the world better for one scared little boy who'd lost his parents.

Cass would definitely be up there in the rankings (probably jostling for position alongside Duke and Tim) but there's really no contest for first place.

1. roger collins canon status: 6/10 they are the moment. collinsport's own jane eyre reenactment in a 1960's feudal sardine empire, complete with lovely arsonist wife. they're soulmates. he might be her uncle (?). it's true love. it's workplace harassment. they're fated to be together. they're doomed. they're entwined but never joined. they're marrying other people. they're mimicking each other's dialogue. they went on two dates and they both sucked. she's the adoptive mother to his (?) child. he tried to fire her 2 million times. they never even kissed once. they got stuck in a cabin together in the middle of a storm. he gives her away at her wedding. he can't stand to see her married. she is one of the few people in this world that he finds worth caring about.

2. burke devlin (mitch ryan) canon status: 10/10 he's dangerous he's mysterious he's tall dark and handsome and he did not hit that guy with his car. he's an oil baron. he's an ex convict. he's a millionaire. he's roger collins' ex-boyfriend. he's going to set out to destroy everything but oh god not her he would never let anyone touch her. one of the few people who actually takes her bodily safety seriously and moves heaven and earth to rescue her (repeatedly). two poor kids from the wrong side of the tracks arrive in the same train car from new york to collinsport. one of them already knows the underside of the collins' heel and the other one is about to and he can't convince her to get out. he wants to wreck the collins name she wants it as her own but they're both too-well wrapped up in the myth to leave it.

3. carolyn stoddard canon status: 2/10 girlfriends. that's all i can say. i just think they are very much adorable and they do score points on the canon scale, remotely, for such subtle lines from Carolyn as: "Just what the doctor ordered to keep the wind from ruffling your dark and gorgeous hair," and "Here, alone with you, I can't pretend." never mind their sleepovers in vic's bed hanging out in their nightdresses. carolyn would sooner own up to having a crush on her uncle than having a crush on a woman because this is upper crust maine in the 1960's but listen ... for a character who enjoys flirting for fun but gets extremely anxious about settling down and marrying a man, who prefers the most distant, unobtainable men that she has no reasonable chance of actually ending up with (roger case in point), who gets jealous every time vicki is with someone no matter who it is ... maybe she does like men too, but let's investigate mama let's research. with the governess, preferably. (who could maybe be her half sister? see no. 1)

4. maggie evans (blonde wig) canon status: 0/10 i'll be honest with you all this one is purely vibes but the other boyfriends suck so she still gets to place ahead of them. don't tell me maggie's not looking at her in exactly the same way she looks at joe when she's eyeing him up as her next man. she got straighter when we lost the blonde wig but this entire counter scene in e1 is one long flirtation session and for however many episodes she keeps the wig i believe very strongly there's a devastatingly homoerotic female friendship developing. i'm not immune to the short hair blonde long hair brunette wlw aesthetic i'll admit. as i said vibes only but just trust me. y'all fw cartinelli? ok. well.

5. frank garner canon status: 10/10 i'm glad you were very helpful during the laura arc frank but i'll be honest you bore me to tears why are you even here. he's got the personality of wonder bread and he's in the wrong genre he should be arguing cases on bachelor father or solving hardy boys mysteries or something i truly do not know. these two together just means bouncing all our lawful good off each other and it self perpetuates into nothing interesting at all. they're not even maybe related! maybe if we continued further with the betty hanscombe story and he found some damning revelation about vicki's parentage he'd have something fun to contribute to the plot but as things stand he's just a duller ivy league version of joe and if we're gonna have an all-american boyfriend i'd rather she just date mr haskell.

6. burke devlin (anthony george) canon status: 10/10 you may think that he cannot have possibly fallen from 2nd to 6th with a recast ... surely not ... but you would be wrong. i give vic props for domesticating him but he's lost all his panache in his full-time role as romantic interest, and now he doesn't even look like handsome squidward anymore :( like frank, this version of burke is much too obviously a safe choice, where the original allure of burke is the fact that she wants him despite the enmity between him and the collins family, his destructive tendencies, his jawline ... I do give him props for going to extreme lengths to make her happy, not only in their personal relationship, but her overall circumstances, and the other things that matter to her. you're not last but i wasn't sad when the plane crashed either :/

7. barnabas collins canon status: 8.5/10 is this a real relationship ... i don't really know. i'm not sure the participants know. barnabas thinks it is and i guess they were technically engaged to be married at some point but that's only towards the goal of using her to vividly hallucinate his dead girlfriend so does that count. I will say in their favor it was extremely funny that she had to drive the getaway car for her own kidnapping/elopement/vamp enthrallment because he can't drive. honestly that was the only part of this whole situation i enjoyed. also when she married jeff and he sighed and put his head in his hands he was real for that. they're actually pretty compatible and would be amazing friends ... or like, they could host a podcast together, or something. not this.

8. jeffpeter clarkbradford canon status: 10/10 such a shitty boyfriend that roger collins opened his third eye to warn her that marrying him is the greatest mistake of her life. his only job in the entire world is to make sure that vicki does not hang for witchcraft and he fails multiple times. possibly the most annoying man on the planet. what if we gave a ken doll the personality of a republican congressional aide and he's played by an actor that is reviled by his castmates. comes to the future on the power of wanting to fuck vicki i guess and to spite me, specifically, who's very tired of seeing him, and makes her have a car accident where she could have died. kisses reincarnated french serial killers in the yard days before their big wedding. leaves her at the altar to go play in the dirt in the graveyard. later marries her in a shotgun ceremony at 3 in the morning and then vanishes back into The Past. after literally driving her to suicide, takes her to be with him in The Past where she hangs, again, and then dies off the cliff. TOMATO TOMATO TOMATO TOMATO.

Dang, I’m not even sure if you’d get my full thoughts here because it’s not like I remember every reason why I love them every moment of the day! But, like, anywayyy…

I think these two are soulmates and meant to be. I think they look good together, both aesthetically and on paper because their personalities are complementary. I also think they have a lot more chemistry than people give them credit for. If you don’t like the pairing, then that’s fine, but to just brush their connection as fujoshi bait is…really narrow-minded.

Like, sdr2 kind of makes it a point that Komaeda and Hinata do have a lot in common and have a deep sense of understanding even if the actual execution can be hit or miss. For example the stage did a much better job of showing this understanding than the game did. And before you say the stage doesn’t count as canonical, it was written by Kodaka so it’s at least legitimate as a retelling. Moving on, you can see how similar these two are even in something as simple as official art and sprites showing these two as mirroring one another. So, at the very least, it’s obvious that Komaeda and Hinata are meant to be seen as foils and doppelgangers.

That’s already really appealing to me on it’s own. Hell, it’s why I love Komaegi so much, even if those two have different similarities than these two. So what makes KomaHina extra special?

Weeeeell, they actually interact on a significant level, for one thing, and they build one another’s personalities further. Hinata’s someone who is pushed to his potential by Komaeda, who challenges him and is not content to letting Hinata close his eyes and ears to the truth when things get too uncomfortable. And Hinata, to an extent, does the same for Komaeda even if it’s without meaning to, by challenging his worldview and showing him someone who does want and mean to understand him, is even willing to showcase the patience to do so, and become significant to him and to everyone else…even though he’s nothing more than a talentless nobody who should be barred from this kind of thing. No one else challenges these two in these ways, because no one else willingly shows Komaeda this level of patience and proactivity and for Hinata, everyone else is even more willing to be compliant with accepting what’s “easy” rather than what’s “true”. Nanami’s a bit better at this, but she also encourages Hinata to rely more on her when Komaeda absolutely refuses to be that kind of crutch when the situation is this serious and you have to rely on your own strengths if you want to get as far as you can.

Thing is, Komaeda very easily could be a crutch to an extent with his intelligence making him a valuable asset rivaling that of Kirigiri, who Naegi really had to rely on for a significant amount of dr1, not to mention prior to the Chapter 1 Trial, Komaeda was most certainly the one Hinata relied the most on to get his footing, taking him around the island and acting as a mediator of sorts between him and the other students. There was also his first FTE, which showed Komaeda as very encouraging and comforting, being able to calm Hinata despite the tense situation and able to help him loosen up quite a bit. So yeah, Komaeda could be as cozy and welcoming as Nanami…but that approach just doesn’t work for the long-term. And while short-term works for Nanami, it just doesn’t work for Komaeda. And, honestly, I think long-term’s pretty important for Hinata, too, especially since with how responsible Hinata is for a lot of things (like the other sdr2 kids), and how the tragedy began because Hinata couldn’t rely on himself…finding his own strength for the long-term is not only advisable, it’s essential. The kind of challenge Komaeda provides is just as necessary for Hinata’s well being as the challenge Hinata provides is for Komaeda’s. In my perspective, anyway.

Also their banter is adorable, like, holy shit, it’s so good?? The theater scenes are like, honestly among my favorite parts of the main game easily with how funny they are. And there’s so much else to go on about like… The underlying tragedy of how these two could have been such good friends, but then the trials ruined that, which was showcased so heartbreakingly in the stage in the clip I linked, and also, just like the absolute tragedy that was Chapters 4-5 in which Komaeda utterly breaks from realizing the horrible truth and yet still doesn’t completely push Hinata away even though he ends up sacrificing himself horrendously all the same is just… AAAAAHHHH. And you have zanka and poison which are both about Komaeda’s feelings towards Hinata and it’s just… AAAAAHHHH. Also Dangan Island is just…so cute. So good. So pure. The Dangan Island manga has a chapter focused on Komaeda, and it’s also so good so pure. That chapter of Beautiful Days that focused on them? So good. So pure. Such a good showcase of just how great these two are for each other!! Please look at them if you haven’t and love KomaHina!!

KomaHina is very, very good and seriously deserves the happy ending it got. Dr3 wasn’t so bad after all!! Amazing!

● Overall, demons are sort of weird in this AU, they're basically able to shift reality (their strength is based on their rank) and aren't really alive or dead, just there. No possession, either (unless it's a specific ability to said demon.) Soulmates are something most demons actively pursue but rarely find, so when you do find them, you instantly bond with them. Bonding is essentially the binding of soils together, and It's pretty painful for all parties involved.

○ Ingo and Emmet are high-ranking demons, and their powers are directly related to one another. You might be able to overpower one if you're smart and strong enough, but it's literally impossible if they're together. They have ice related abilities and make things unbearably cold.

● They are still workaholics, but don't tire really. Their bodies aren't actually their true forms, so they don't actually expend that much energy. They are also only in this dimension to find their soulmate(s).

○ It's funny when other demons go on the Battle Subway and feel the demonic energy. What kind of high-ranking demon runs a public transport system? Then they look at the twins like, “Oh, it's those guys.” They have a reputation back in their home dimension as being eccentric about trains.

● However he meets you, be it summoning or random chance, he realizes your soulmate with a single glance. Say it's chance on the subway, he's very polite and courteous toward you. Ingo will give you his number and invite you along for a tour of the station.

● Do not be fooled, he is trying to isolate you and bond you. The demon is insufferable and desperate. He's waited centuries to meet you. Now all he wants is his claim upon you, afraid to lose you. (He's heard one too many horror stories of other demons losing their human mates should they leave them unclaimed. )

● After the bond, however, he will respect all of your boundaries. Should you not wish to see him ever again (he believes you will eventually, as you're now immortal like him), he will simply go. There's now a desperate longing deeply ingrained onto your soul. No matter who you befriend, date or have a one-night stand with; it lingers and burns. You stood outside his apartment in a trance. As the door opens, you press your body against his frigid one and his hand moves to softly comb your hair. You finally feel whole again.

● After your relationship starts proper, Ingo will tell you about his dimension. He's trying to gage whether you would be interested in migrating there (after Emmet finds his soulmate, he would never leave his brother). If you're not interested, he understands. He's happy to stay in the human world if it's with you. He'll still want you to visit his dimension, however. If you are, have fun in a world where water feels soft and mushy. Their dimension follows wildly different rules.

● Ingo can and will purr if you get him comfortable and relaxed enough. It'll be a weird experience at first, but eventually, it becomes a cute occurrence. He can also growl and hiss properly.

○ Also realizes you are his soulmate instantly. It takes his entire willpower to not just squeeze you to him and claim you with a long, passionate kiss. Kissing is probably not a good idea if it's as painful as everyone says it is, anyway. He's enthusiastic as he approaches you.

○ Claims you as soon he has you alone. Emmet's patience for you died a long time ago. Your bond is something extremely precious to him, and he's not going to let humans take you from him. You are pressed into an embrace as the burning, freezing, and electric pain surges through your very being.

○ Your boundaries are slightly respected. He won't directly interact with you, but you'll know he's always there. A fierce, biting desire demands physical contact. You spend nights awake shivering, wanting someone to hold you close. You know the demon is behind it; he wants you to call for him. One night, you cried for him and the warmth emitted from his body made you temporarily forget the unwanted bond. Emmet kisses your ear and whispers sweet nothings.

○ When your relationship begins, Emmet becomes attached to your hip. There is barely a moment spent alone. You're told of his home dimension, and he informs you he doesn't really mind where you'd rather stay. He will be influenced by his brother wants, however. Maybe work with Ingo's mate to stop stay in your reality.

○ Also purrs, but it's a common occurrence. So is growling and hissing when someone gets a bit too friendly toward you. Honestly, he was probably purring while he bonded with you.

● It was most likely a horrifying moment when you realized the two Subway Bosses were staring you down from across the station. They knew you were their soulmate and were strategizing how to best get you alone with them.

○ Emmet approaches you first, knowing he looks more amiable than his twin. His words are a bit strange, but he comes off as a good person. Ingo followed up closely, and soon you were acquainted with the demons. A tour of the station was offered to you. Foolishly, you accepted believing their friendliness.

● The depot agents and office workers surely heard your screams from their bosses' office. Your mind felt like it was run across a cheese grater; your body ached, sizzled and popped. Throughout it all, you were sandwiched between the brothers. Soft, captivating reassurances echoed in your head, but were unspoken by lips.

○ Admittedly, they do not respect your boundaries. Ingo wants you somewhere safe, and Emmet wants you away from humans. Congratulations, you're going to their dimension. There's no escape, and eventually, you'll succumb to the bond and their wishes.

● One is always at your side. On the rare occasion you're left alone, the reality of their dimension begins to eat at your brain. You beg them to never leave you alone, and they'll happily oblige. That evening was spent within an amorous embrace, Ingo apologizing for all the pain they have caused you while Emmet peppers kisses all over your body.

○ Your time is spent doing whatever you please, and they'll obtain anything you want. It's an enchanting lifestyle; you only wished they offered you a choice. The desperation was understandable, but you wanted your personhood acknowledged. The twins do respect you, truthfully. Instincts just unfortunately run high for their species.

Well, first of all there is Sir.Lucifer Morningstar who is one of the emperor's of the Infernal realm, the realm of demons. He is the avatar of Pride, yet he cares of his family and friends deeply. Then there is his dear wife, Odelia Morningstar, she is a demon who was a human before she got married to Sir.Lucifer.

Then Sir.Belial, Sir.Lucifer 's exact opposite twin, he has white hair with gold eyes, unlike Sir.Lucifer who has black hair and red eyes. He is also the high emperor of the realm, the avatar of Obsession. He is known to be quiet, kind, patient and overall a type of angel. His wife is the second sister of Lady.Odelia, her name is Aurelesia Morningstar. She dies in the human world and was reincarnated in the Infernal realm as the fated one/soulmate of Sir.Belial.

Then there is the avatar of Greed, Sir.Mammon. The greedy, merciless, possesive and caring and couraging, the third eldest son of the Morningstar family and the third emperor of the Infernal realm. And the funniest royal award goes to his darling wife, Lady.Aurmelle. The younger sister of Lady.Odelia and Lady.Aurelesia. She was also a human like her sisters, (I mean they're sisters of course they will be human) But unlike her sisters she is the avatar of Gold. She is the funniest of the royals, I have ever met!!!!

Then comes the fourth eldest,the navy captain, the avatar of Envy, Sir.Leviathan!!!! He the absolute best, so cool and strong, but he is also scary!!!! His wife is the second strongest, natural demon, her name is Lady.Rosealine. She is known to be generous yet the most mysterious royal!! But I know her very well, Sir.Leviathan and Lady.Rosealine are both known to be otakus, but they are also very great artists after me!!!!

Then the royal whom used to have the most concubines but left them all after he fell for his wife and is the best simp, Sir.Asmodeus!!! Though Sir.Asmodues is the avatar of Lust, he's very respectful with his wife and he loves her to no end. He says that most beautiful creature in the universe even prettier than him is his wife, Lady.Isahine !!!! She's very soft-spoken, but her anger is scary even if it's not directed at me!!! She loves making flower crowns for the royals including me, even though I'm not a royal...

Then the embdiment of anger himself, the avatar of Wrath, Sir Satan and his most magical wife, Lady.Myhilara. Known for her strong magic abilities and patient demeanor, she is the third most kindest lady to be presented in the royal family. Sir.Satan and Lady.Myhilara both share a deep love of knowledge and animals, especially tiny dragons!!!!

The youngest two twins of the family!!!!, Sir.Beelzebub and Sir.Belphegor. Did you know the twins weren't always a part of the family? They both actually used to one person, the avatar of Melancholy, Maxmillion. He was engaged to his dear fiancee, Solielin Ambrosia. Upon a huge battle where he had to choose to either save his fiancee or one of his brother, his body split into two parts forming the twins!!!!! Though they are still engaged to the second sweetest lady present in the Infernal Realm, she's very soft-spoken, kind-of-funny and is a amazing friend!

Then the demon with the highest rank, Sir Diavolo. Sir.Diavolo is the elder emperor of the Infernal Realm, he took over the throne only at the age of 7000 (14 years old in demon years). He is known to be intimidating, scary and kind with a large amount of patience, unless you trouble his most sweetest and amazing wife, Lady.Herveria. Lady.Herveria is someone whom I meet very rarely, as she kept in Sir.Diavolo's wing, but she's very sweet and the kindest person in the world, though her anger scares everyone....She's rarely angry though!!!

Then the duke, Barbatos with his butler wife of Lady.Herveria, Anthony!!!! Sir.Barbatos is very responsible and sweet, just like his wife! If I ever get in a relationship, I want mine to be just like theirs!!!

Then Sir.Nightmare, with His lovely husband, Sir.Hyrin!!!! They both have a lovely daughter, Nirine!!! Nirine and I are great cousins!!!!, even though she doesn't visit me often...
