i compare animals to infants because at least an adult human could know not to bother someone or defend themselves in an attack. most animals we harm don't do either.

they're not like us. they're different, unfamiliar, disgusting, LESSER. if that sounds like the mindset behind racism, xenophobia, ableism, or queerphobia, it's because it is. it's just pushed to a point far enough away that it's socially acceptable. they come from the same thing.

animals can be a threat, there's no arguing that. i am not advocating for harm to stop befalling animals, i am advocating that people treat non-humans with the same levels of empathy that they would another human, IF NOT MORE. we are able to, we know better, and we they are just like us.

Shino went down to his knees. There was a flea dying in the grass, cast-off from Akamaru’s latest bath, and he gently gathered it onto his finger. “Chemicals in human skin are toxic to certain bugs,” he said, by rote. “They absorb everything without discrimination, to their detriment. Therefore, we Aburame are bred not to produce--"

“S-S-S-Shino-k-k-kun,” Hinata said. “S-St-t-top.”

The flea would die if he didn’t do something, but, then again, it would die even if he tried everything. It was all, in the end, quite useless.

Unfortunately, Aburame were physiologically incapable of tears. He leaked fruit flies, instead, their little proboscis seeking sugar to counteract the salt that Shino’s cell walls provided. To what end? Shino had asked his father, once, and his father had replied: To strike fear into the hearts of our opponents, even when we are at our most vulnerable.

“Hinata-chan, Shino-kun!”

It was Kurenai-sensei. She’d watched the tableaux of them unfold from afar, and had come to fix it up again.

“Did you make Hinata-chan cry, Shino?”

“N-N-N-o-”

“Yes,” Shino interrupted. “I believe I must have.”

“NO!” Hinata was crying again, but this time, Shino understood, it was from frustration. He believed he understood that chemical emotion, of being incapable of communication. The Aburame had different tells than normal humans, and human body language was Shino’s third or fourth language, if one did not count the flashing of fireflies or the tell-tale vibration of locusts. But how could he let her know?

“Hinata-chan,” Kurenai-sensei said. “Take a deep breath. In. Out. Good girl.”

Shino breathed in and out as well, diffusing oxygen into his blood and body cavity so that his hundred thousand selves could breathe, too. For a minute, everyone concentrated solely on gas exchange. Then, Kurenai-sensei nodded decisively.

“Do you feel better?” She said.

Hinata nodded, but chose not to speak. Her body language was small. All of her was small. Shino liked small things: he liked gently exploring the antennae of ants and the legs of crickets. They were both cute and functional, which made him happy. But Hinata was not feeling happy, he understood. Hinata was often sad, and angry, and frustrated, her body too small for the profundity of emotions that wrecked it from the inside, like Shino’s body had been too small for the hundred thousand insects that had colonized him as a boy, that he’d encouraged to grow, because he had felt so sad when they died, to the point where his father had had to come in and destroy half of them, destroy half of Shino’s happiness, to let him live.

“I apologize, Hinata-san,” Shino said, subdued. “For making you sad.”

“It wasn’t you,” Hinata said, very, very softly. “It was, um...something my father said.”

“Oh,” Shino said. “Then I am only sad that you are sad.”

Hinata huffed out an odd noise. He thought he was an expert in microexpressions, but this one was hard to parse, until he heard the melody of it, and he understood that Hinata was giggling. Shino leaked a couple of fruit flies before he got a hold of them again.

“Haha,” he said, instead.

Kurenai-sensei’s hand gently placed itself on his hair, unafraid of the myriad insects that immediately rushed to explore the foreign object that had invaded their nest. Shino was grateful she did not pat it, because it might harm his headlice, which he had very carefully cultivated off the skull of a dying shinobi, because they would have died without his interference, and death had always made him sad, to his detriment.

“Thank you, Shino-kun,” Hinata said, as quiet as two blades of grass. “I’m s-sorry I upset you.”

“I am not upset,” Shino said. “Why? Because it is not an emotion beneficial to shinobi.” Neither were cultivating harmless fruit flies, or secreting away useless headlice, but no one had to know.

Hinata bit her lip and looked away. Kurenai-sensei’s hand tensed in his hair.

“I lied,” Shino said abruptly. “I am upset.” He looked down into the grass, where Akamaru’s flea had died. “I am quite sad, I think.” Human words were difficult. He wished they could hear the shrill cries of the cicada, their lives as long as a day, living only to die. Maybe then they could understand each other.

“It’s okay to be sad,” Kurenai-sensei said. “It’s okay to be frustrated. Don’t deny your own feelings.” She sat down on the ground, and patted the grass, and they sat next to her, both he and Hinata, her toy soldiers with feelings too large for their bodies. “When I’m sad, I practice genjutsu. I can channel those emotions into something productive.”

Hinata wilted, and murmured something subvocally. 

“What if you are too sad to practice genjutsu?” Shino said, automatically giving her voice as he did for his insects.

“Well,” Kurenai-sensei said. “Then I talk to a, um--to someone.”

“Asuma-sensei?” Shino guessed. He had never spoken to the foul-smelling Sarutobi, all of him afraid of the man’s casual fire breathing, but if Kurenai-sensei meant him, then he would give it a try.

“No! I mean,” Kurenai-sensei hid her face in her hands. “Ach!” She composed herself and put her hands on her knees. “Right. I talk to someone like Asuma-san. A friend.”

Shino thought of talking to his cousin, Aburame Torune, but Torune-san had gone on a mission for Danzo-sama years ago and had never come back. He wondered if he could talk to the descendants of Torune-san’s nanoparticle-sized rinkaichu, the ones that he now housed near his eighth chakra gate, and the very last he’d ever use in a fight, if it came to it, because they were so precious to him. It was too risky to let them out, though, and not just because they devoured flesh nigh-indiscriminately. They simply had no ears to hear him.

“What if you have no friends?” Shino asked.

“Excuse me!” Kurenai-sensei said. “Am I not your friend, Shino-kun? Is Hinata-chan not your friend?”

“I believe you are my teammates,” Shino said.

“Y-you can t-talk to me, Shino-k-kun,” Hinata said. “U-um, if you d-d-don’t mind.”

Shino thought about it for a moment, and then nodded. “Then I extend the same courtesy to you, Hinata-san.” She was his friend, he thought, and the weevils that lived in his esophagus scurried up to his mouth, startled by the production of acid. He swallowed them reflexively.

“Wonderful!” Kurenai-sensei said. “Whenever you feel sad, I want you two to find each other, and talk about why you are sad.” She held Hinata’s hand in her right and Shino’s in her left. “Hinata, Shino. Listen to me very carefully. To be a shinobi is to endure, but endurance is not built through denial. Talking through your feelings is like flexing a muscle. Someday you’ll get strong enough that you won’t have to say anything, but, until then, I want you two to go through the motions, okay?”

“Understood,” Shino said.

“Okay,” Hinata said. “Um. W-why don’t you s-start? S-Shino-k-k-kun.”

Shino paused. Why was he sad? It was harder than he realized to pinpoint the origin. He was sad Akamaru’s bath had killed his fleas, the very same Shino had befriended only a day prior; that Kurenai-sensei had sat upon five ants that were still sending out pheromones of panic and pain; that his father and his father’s father and his father’s father’s father had chosen to sacrifice tear ducts for nesting grounds, because they were unnecessary to a shinobi; that all he had left of Torune was a square milimeter’s worth of inbred bugs that he could not communicate with, jailed away near his heart, that would only be released upon his death, to devour him, to devour everything, until they, too, died for lack of a heart to keep them.

“Use your words, Shino-kun,” Kurenai-sensei said gently, through the small mist of insects that flitted about in response to Shino’s upset.

“I am sad,” Shino said, “because everything is so large.”

“Very good, Shino-kun,” Kurenai-sensei said. “That’s a good start. I’m proud of you for admitting that.”

Hinata squeaked when Kurenai-sensei turned to her.

“U-uh-um,” Hinata said, bright red, already sweating. “I-I-I’m,” she bit her lip, and closed her eyes, and said, like it was being torn away from her, “I’m sad I am so small! And weak! And useless!” She gasped, and started crying.

“Shh, Hinata-chan, I’m proud of you for saying that, it’s okay...”

Shino stared at Hinata’s arched back, the way she was trying to disappear into her hands, as if by sheer will she could shove the tears back into her eyes.

“I can’t cry,” he said. “That makes me sad, too.”

Hinata wailed. Kurenai-sensei looked like she had bitten off more than she could chew.

“But,” Shino said louder. “I have fruit flies, instead.” They poured out from behind his sunglasses, buzzing insistently, drowning the cacophony of Hinata’s upset. “They’re small, and weak, and useless, and my father would tell me to get rid of them, if he knew, because they’re not functional. But! I find them really cute! I like them a lot!”

He plowed on like there was a gate open, and he couldn’t stop himself.

“They eat fruits by licking them with a really long tongue! It’s called a proboscis and I’ve bred mine to have really, really long ones, because it’s super cute! Everyone thinks they’re pests, even my own family, and that makes me really, really sad, because they’re not! They like bananas and beer and--and--” Shino hiccuped oddly and coughed out a whole rhino beetle, which fell flat on its back and started wiggling its little legs, incapable of turning upright on its own.

Shino stopped and stared at it, feeling abruptly quite tired.

To his surprise, Hinata reached out, and very gently, turned it around. It rushed back up his knees, up his shirt, and neck, meeting a dead end when Shino would not open his mouth, his lips a thin line of self-disappointment.

“U-Um,” Hinata said. “I-I think they’re cute, t-too.”

The beetle scurried into his open mouth and down his throat.

“You do?” He said, stunned.

“Yes,” Hinata said, and tried to wipe at the tears and snot that now made a mess of her face. “I-I used to w-watch them, in the garbage.”

“You two...” Kurenai-sensei placed her hand on both their heads, this time. “You two are the cutest students I’ve ever had, okay! I think you are both very adorable, and strong!”

Shino’s headlice ran to the base of his skull, afraid of the force of Kurenai-sensei’s hold. But Shino felt very happy. He had two new friends, now, and one of them even liked his fruit flies.

Part of the trouble with controlling carpet beetles is that they live in many areas of a home and eat more than carpet. They eat everything containing organic fibers and organic products. There are 3 types of carpet beetle that are the most common problem for property owners. These are the varied carpet beetle, the black carpet beetle and the furniture carpet beetle. If you are finding holes in fabrics around your home, and think the damage is due to carpet beetles, look for fecal pellets and skins shed by the larva. They most often feed in dark secluded places, so do a thorough inspection for them.

Hey @beerecordings​ @florenceisfalling​, you remember that silly conversation you guys had a few days ago? I did a thing! 

2017

“Do we plan to have a bonfire tomorrow?” Henrik asked, glancing up from his book.

“Huh?” Sean replied. “I mean, I guess we could. Any reason?” 

 Henrik looked confused. “Did I not get the date correct? It is the thirtieth tomorrow, isn’t it?”

“Yeah, and?”

Henrik sat up, closing his book. “Do you not do Walpurgisnacht in Ireland?”

“What, like the big baddy from Madoka Magica?” Jackie piped up from the couch. 

Henrik pinched the bridge of his nose in reply. “Gott gibt mir kraft.” he muttered. “No, Jackie, not like the anime. Saint Walburga’s feast. Hexennacht. Whatever you want to call it.”

Sean shook his head. “Never heard of it. But yeah, sure, I’m always down for a bonfire. What exactly are we celebrating?”

“Ah, I have not been to church in awhile, but I believe she battles against sickness and pests. I vaguely remember something about oil. Today it is mostly an excuse for hoodlums to make problems for everyone. Graffiti, vandalism, you know.”

“Oh, so like how Halloween is back in the States?” 

Sean glanced at Chase. “I thought you guys just did the candy thing?”

Chase scoffed. “Hell no, Halloween is all about eggs and toilet paper once you’re old enough.”

Henrik shook his head. “You Americans. But yes, I suppose it is similar. For a select few.”

Sean raised an eyebrow. “Careful, all that condescension will get to you one day. I still don’t see what any of this has to do with bonfires.” 

“Sean, I thought you were raised Catholic? How do you not know this?”

Sean threw his hands in the air. “There’s a bajillion saints, Hen. No one person can memorize all of them. Why the fire?”

Henrik frowned suddenly. “Ach, my brain is shorting out. Hexen. What is that in english?”

“Hexes? Spells?” Chase supplied.

“No, no, the people.”

“Witches?”

“Yes!” Henrik leaned back. “Witches. The bonfire is because in the old days, they would burn...ah…” he turned awkwardly to the corner of the room by the bookshelf.

Marvin had a shit eating grin spanning ear to ear. “No, Schneep, by all means, continue.” he said teasingly.

Jackie sat up with a gasp. “We should have a witch hunt tomorrow!”

“Uhh, it won’t be much of a ‘hunt’.” Marvin said. “You all know where my bedroom is.”

“And technically the actual feast isn’t until Sunday.” Henrik added.

“Okay then, so we make some rules. Like, not until after breakfast. And no hiding in your room all day.”

Marvin stood still for a few moments. Then he shrugged. “You know what? Fuck it, sure. First one to hug me on Sunday gets...I dunno, I’ll take you out for drinks or something.”

“Wait, first one?” Sean asked. “Are we all doing this? Why?”

“Family bonding!” Jackie yelled.

“Sure, ‘cause nothing says ‘family bonding’ like trying to tackle each other for an entire day.” snorted Chase. 

Jackie turned to Marvin, grinning even wider than the magician had been moments before. “I’m gonna hug the shit out of you on Sunday.”

“Try it, spandex.”

2018

When Jameson walked into the kitchen with the breakfast dishes, Jackie and Chase were using the breakfast bar to stretch. He shook his head, dropping the dishes in the sink. 

“Is there any reason for the calisthenics, gents?” he signed.

“It’s May first.” Chase replied, his voice muffled by his thigh.

“And?”

Jackie bent backwards to face him. “We do this thing for Wali- Walspi- fuck.”

“Walpurgisnacht.” Chase said.

“Right. That.”

“I’m sorry, I still don’t follow.” Jameson signed. “Isn’t that the German May Day? When they have campfires?”

“We do it different in this family. We’re having ourselves a good old fashioned witch hunt!”

Jameson blinked. “What?”

Chase stood up from his spot on the floor. “First one to hug Marv after breakfast wins. No serious damage or drawing blood. No weapons, super strength, or bribery. Other than that, all bets are off.”

“Jack won last year on a technicality, but this year, I’m ready!” Jackie declared.

Chase rolled his eyes. “It wasn’t a technicality, you’re just a sore loser.” He glanced back at Jameson. “Marvin shifted into a cat for most of the day. He was hanging around out back, and Sean went to cuddle the cat without knowing who it was.”

“...I see.” Jameson signed slowly. “Well, what about me? I can do magic as well.”

Chase and Jackie froze. Then their faces broke into matching smiles. “New rules,” Chase said. “First person to hug Marv and Jamie wins.” 

Jameson’s eyes widened, then in a blink, he vanished.

“Hey!” Chase yelled, running into the living room. “No time jumping! That’s cheating!”

Jackie’s laughter coming from behind him was borderline maniacal. 

2019

“Henrik!”

“Aah!” He lurched forward as the sudden noise woke him up. “Was?”

Chase and Jackie were standing in the doorway. Jackie winced as he saw that Henrik was still in bed. “Shit, sorry Schneep, I forgot you had a late shift last night.”

Henrik waved a hand. “It’s alright, I slept enough. Is everything okay? What do you two need?”

Jackie plopped onto the bed while Chase pulled over his desk chair. “We need a game plan.”

“....for what, exactly?”

“The thing! Waluigi night! Witch hunt!” 

“Neither of us managed to win last year,” Chase added. “We need to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

Henrik blinked a couple times. “You did that without me?” 

“Is that bad?” Jackie asked.

‘No, no, I’m just surprised. I didn’t think..” He shook his head. “Game plan. Right. Did you change any of the rules while I was gone?”

“Jamie counts now too, you need to get both of’em to win.”

Henrik sat up straighter. “Alright, so first things first…”

By the afternoon, all three of them had managed to hug Jameson, who was now reading in the living room. But no one had seen Marvin since breakfast. The others figured he’d just upped the ante this year, but personally, JJ was starting to worry a bit. Marvin had seemed impish when they talked yesterday, like he was planning to spend the day taunting them. Popping in and out, always vanishing at the last second. Not disappearing completely. Jameson finished his cup of tea and stood up. Marvin’s room wasn’t off limits to him, so what was the harm in checking on him? 

He passed Chase on the stairs. The American was whacking his cap, trying to brush cobwebs off it. He smiled at Jameson. “Nothing in the attic. You two really brought it this year.”

JJ smiled back. “I’m just going to see if Marvin’s in his room,” he signed.

“Gotcha. If you find him, could you give him one of these for me?” Chase asked, flipping the bird. Jameson laughed, and climbed the rest of the stairs. 

He passed Jackie’s room, which had loud music and thumping sounds coming from within. Sounded like he was working out to let off some steam. 

Jameson knocked thrice on Marvin’s door, the signal he used to identify himself when out of sight. There was no reply. He frowned, trying again. On the third knock, the door creaked open, with no one behind it. 

That was definitely worrying. Marvin never left his door unlocked. His room had too many unstable spells and in-progress potions, it was dangerous for any of them to randomly burst in. 

Jameson carefully stepped in. He continued knocking, to no avail. The only light source came from an open laptop. The light wavered as the screen glitched and shifted. Jameson’s eyes widened as he read the message.

He grabbed the computer and ran downstairs.

After that, the hours flew by in a flurry. Jackie managed to track the signal provided, but it took him until after supper to do so. Chase spent most of that time comforting an (understandably) distraught Henrik, who had numerous panic attacks and more than one shutdown. That left Jameson to do nothing but pace and fret, caught up in his thoughts. 

“How? How did he manage to subdue Marvin, of all people?!” Henrik yelled from the living room. 

“I don’t know,” said Chase.

Jameson didn’t know either. 

The next thing he knew, the four of them were standing in front of an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of town. Jackie checked his phone. “This should be it. Okay, we’ll pair off. JJ, you and Schneep try and find Marvin while Chase and I distract Anti. Got it?”

Jameson nodded, slightly perturbed. He hadn’t seen Jackie this serious in months. 

Jackie turned back to the building. “Alright, so first things first…” He paused, then his eyes widened. “Get down, now!”

It looked like a bomb had gone off. The windows were simultaneously blown out as fire poured out of them. Sparks filled the air. It might have just been shock, but Jameson though the embers floating around them looked like feathers. 

The entire building was ablaze in a matter of seconds. All of them just gaped, frozen on the spot. Eventually, Chase snapped out of it and ran toward the entrance. “Marvin!”

Out of the door stumbled a figure. He walked a few steps, then swayed forward into Chase’s open arms. Chase slowly walked him over to where the rest of them were standing.

Marvin was a mess. His hair was haphazardly chopped into different lengths. Most of it was singed, and there were still a few small flames that Jameson patted out for him. His clothes were torn, and bruises were visible through the holes. There were a few nasty looking gashes on his chest. His tattoos were still glowing from overuse. 

He smiled dazedly up at the group. “Sorry guys, I think I got the day wrong for the bonfire.”

Henrik made a noise that was halfway between a sob and a laugh. “You’re right, the bonfires were supposed to happen yesterday.”

“Ah well, never was very good with dates.” He leaned further into Chase’s shoulder. “Congrats, man. Where d’you wanna go for drinks.” 

Chase’s grip on Marvin’s arm tightened. “Let’s focus on getting you better first, okay?” He motioned with his head for Jackie to support Marvin’s other side. “Jameson, go bring my truck around.” he whispered.

JJ nodded as Henrik rushed forward with his bag. The doctor leaned in, feeling around for breaks and assessing the cuts. Marvin slowly nodded along to what he was saying, clearly out of it. 

The drive home was somber. Marvin started dozing as soon as the truck got moving, and the rest of them sat in silence.

Eventually, Chase spoke up. “Aw, don’t look so bummed Jackie. Maybe you’ll win next year.”

There was another stretch of silence, then all of them burst out laughing.

BIRDS + BUGS AU HISTORY OUTLINE THAT GOT TOO LONG, I GUESS

Why of COURSE I will tell you about nap times!

So, first of all, some background. The birds and bugs au, or the mutualism au, takes place in a time where humans have died out. They ended up killing off too much of the earth, not giving it enough time to grow back and ripping it of it's resources. The other sentient species of this planet were Tyto, a bird/human hybrid species with a Fun big dino form, and an incredibly small bug/human hybrid species that were simply knowns as bugs. The tyto and the bugs were starving, and as they struggled to deal with the complete tip in food supply, they knew something had to be done. Both birds and bugs banded together, fighting back the humans, destroying their resources and leaving only a few straggling remainders that died out on the island, protecting their land from anymore colonists from the outside world that were still left from the destruction they wrought.

So, the humans are gone, leaving an unbalanced ecosystem, the tyto, and the bugs. At first, they kept up their peace treaty, providing for one another as needed, stepping in to protect those who needed it...but food ran shorter and shorter. Bugs found a solution-- there were strange, floating islands, high above where most tyto could fly, which carried glowing rocks. When touched, the bugs were able to use powers to produce and guide plants, the earth, the water. It was a temporary solution for them, and they rejoiced at this find, distributing the rocks to bugs across the land and helping them learn the powers of deep, strange magic.

The tyto, however, did not have such a find. The tyto grew greedy, desperate, unable to grow food like the bugs had learned to do. Some prayed to gods, others tried to make up for it by learning, but it wasn't enough. They began to do the same thing that the humans had, and when that wasn't enough, they turned to taking from the bugs. The bugs had claimed they found a land where there was plentiful food, where they could produce their own resources-- where was this so called land? Why had only the bugs found it? Where was it for THEM? Some tytos began to take matters into their own claws, convincing the other tytos in the tribes that the bugs were stealing from THEIR land and THEIR food, and that they were nothing but pests that refused to stop mooching off of them! The bugs were no happier. They were convinced that the tyto were using them only for their gain, and prosperity would only come if they went out on their own where they could control the situation. Small bands of tyto broke off, and they would hunt down packs of bugs that were trying to migrate to the new lands. At first, it was only to steal supplies. But somehow, originally by accident, the tyto began to realize that the bugs satisfied a much, much deeper pleasure within them when they ate the bugs themselves instead of just the supplies they carried.

THAT could not happen! Nope! That was really really bad! So the bugs retreated, vowing that they would NEVER trust the tyto again until they learned the error of their ways. They took everyone possible to the islands, too high for the tyto to reach or find with the fog surrounding the land. There they built societies within the rocks, finding new ways to use magic and binding themselves together into groups. However, they had to return to the surface of the land so that they would be able to get the nutrients needed to grow their food in the skies, creating tension and fear as they tried to grapple with avoiding the "monsters" that were the tyto still roaming beneath.

The tyto, for a time, were still merciless. They grew so feral with hunger that, through generations, the ability to speak our form a coherent language was long forgotten. They consumed everything in their path, desperately hungry for something that only bugs could satisfy, and trying to quench the large metabolisms they needed to survive. Many tyto died of starvation, and the few that were left decided that things needed to change. They formed groups, separating to the far ends of the islands, and learned to have patience. Their deep feral desires for food had to be ignored, through meditation and through fasting, so that they would learn to be satisfied with the little that they had. These practices slowly allowed the land to recover, animals returning as their populations were replenished and left alone, giving the birds the chance to eat only what was necessary. For a time, they had now learned to quench the burning embers within them, to silence them and leave it to rest.

When bugs and tyto met, it rarely went well. Bugs were the one thing to reignite that fire, and so bugs had to quickly learn to avoid the tribes of tyto, or be eaten. For the tyto, the bugs were no more than pests, potential creatures without thought or feeling that wanted to take what little food they had. For the bugs, the tyto were fearsome, greedy monsters of the land and waters below without thought or feeling, who only wanted to quell their desires through consumption.

500 years passed of this. Birds and Bugs no longer knew one another for who they were, only as predator and as prey, and the dangers of the other group were easily made known. It was stagnant, afraid, even with the tyto population slowly making a comeback.

Tyto, over time, had lost their ability to properly communicate, through the long periods of silent meditation that had been taught to help them survive. It was thought that this ability must be long gone, never to be found again except through gestures and vague displays. Instead, they discovered a far more curious magic-- an ability to share thoughts, touching one another's souls. It was hidden deep within them, and through practice, each tyto learned that they could finally share their thoughts and ideas as their own, starting a Wave of new experimental lines of belief. Including ONE belief system that has slowly taken over, where Bugs could be considered the Ultimate Source of food and power, with the ability to grant some sort of hidden prosperity when consumed.

The bugs, on the other hand, were oblivious to this. they had seperated into groups. the beetles, dragonflies, and similar species formed a clan called Kehpers that specialized in healing magic and growing food sources. the bees, wasps, and ants became known as the hiveborn, working in groups to keep things organized and build the structures around to keep the islands intact. and then the Lepidopa, later on known as the Outsiders, were made up of the moths and caterpillars who made their way to the surface to gather much needed supplies and bring word of the lands below. the bugs were ruled by the stability of the hiveborn, who ruled with an iron fist in an attempt to control the problems that had once plagued them, keeping true to their promise to never trust those below at any means or cost necessary.

The bugs and the birds lived very different lives, separate but interconnected by dependencies that they didn’t even understand. one lived on the land of the great expanse, the colder regions of the islands above that were safe from harm but desperately needed the resources below, and the other lived in the land of Belous, the large island below that yearned for a new kind of energy it did not possess. Each thought that they had exactly what they needed in their world, that they had LEARNED the way of their lives and that they needed not to understand anything beyond that.

But they were wrong.

There were other ways to get the life energy, the magic, the wholeness that both craved so much. This is where our story begins, where the lines of one species meets another after generations of separation, and how understanding and trust begin to mend the bonds of both the land itself and the species that relied on it.

THAT is the background to naptimes. uhhh. this post is super long, so, I May type a different post about naptimes themselves and like the actual vore  part behind all of this, as well as the characters and story that begins to develop! but! this AU is actually built with two of my close friends, both of which have a huge part in the making and lore. we all BIG LOVE this stuff we’ve made through borrowed ideas and thoughts, but, I Do Not Know if we plan to actually make content content for this yet so I’m not sure what I Should be allowed to post and what I should not be allowed to post. just...know that it is a TRIP.
