I- I adore how you wrote aether! He’s so straight forward and to the point that I think even the most dense reader would be able to put it together. And the fact this man held a flame for reader for FIVE whole nations? Wild, look at the pining and adoration of this man. He was in Fontaine and came all the way to mondstat JUST to be taken care of by what was at the time his crush (since there was no accepting yet). The guts of this man.

But also like- the vulnerability of him asking reader to stay. He already lost his sister right in front of him. Of course he doesn’t want to lose someone else. And ‘I’m staying for you?’ Sushdyrheus- my heart. It gone.

The fact that reader’s reasoning as well to not accept due to the fact that the traveler is gonna just leave one day also makes so much sense. Maybe I’m just bad at finding them but I don’t see that touched often. Man travels to different worlds, the only reason he met reader was because he is stuck in Teyvat. I can absolutely see the logic.

Of course, that only makes the fact that aether would stay just for the reader all the sweeter. Man would give up his old way of life for love.

YES OH MY GOD i want to point out the "the only reason aether met reader was because he got stuck in teyvat" !!! that was what started that little fic. im not sure but i think this is the first time the twins got trapped in a world and to me that gave aether the perspective of exploring a world without the intention of leaving right away. and that kinda opened up his view on having feelings for someone in that world (ahem mc) with the intention of staying this time!!! im surprised u caught that one and pointed it out

and tysm <333 i love writing aether like this bc to me its so very much canon. we see glimpses of his personality through ingame dialogue and his voicelines w paimon -- and i take advantage of those all the time. to me he has such an AMAZING personality in a way that seems like he's so done all the time. and do u guys know the amount of flirting aether/lumine do to npcs?? ... bro. i cant find the one im thinking of atm but every time they do it i crack up so hard

Chapter 5: An Old Face Of A Little Girl

Prologue, Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5(HERE!), Chapter 6, Chapter 7

“Lady Eden…” The soft coo of her maid did nothing to move Marinette, who continued to lay in her bed. The smooth covers were soft against her skin, breathable even as she hid beneath them. Marinette did not react, her eyes clenched closed as she hid obviously from her maid. “Please, my lady. It has been days, at least allow me to bathe you and get you something to eat.”

“……” Marinette remained silent, still curled underneath the blanket. She wished heavily that this was all just a dream.

“…I shall return soon with food, my lady. Please eat it.” Marinette listened carefully to the retreating footsteps of her maid before sitting up. The blanket slid off her form and into her lap, crumpled. She stayed sitting there for a couple minutes, just staring at the mirror in front of her bed. She stared at the face that was now her’s.

“…why am I here?” Marinette croaked, voice shaky and rough from no usage. She bit the inside of her mouth, hoping to draw blood or wake up. Neither happened, so Marinette eventually just started crying. Streaks of tears stained her face, her eyes swelling red from abuse to her tear ducts. “Please, I know someone, one of you gods, hear me! I’m not supposed to be here! You made a mistake!”

Marinette felt out of character, being the one to call for help, but she was just so, so desperate for help. She knew someone had the answers and she needed them. She needed to know why she was here and how she could return home.

No one replied.

Not a speck of sound was returned to her desperate plea, the only sound that was left was her own cries.

“My lady!!!” She could hear light footsteps rush towards her, making Marinette only cry more. “Oh, nonononono! My lady, what’s wrong?”

The maid carefully stroked her face, wiping away her tears. Marinette threw herself at the maid, hugging her tightly.

“Please! I just want to go home!” Marinette cried, causing the maid to worry more. Marinette sobbed unintelligently, using words the older woman wouldn’t understand. “I just want to go home!”

“My lady…” The maid just hugged her back and rocked back and forth. She didn’t understand what her lady meant by ‘go home’ but she comforted the girl to the best of her abilities.

As Marinette’s crying started to calm down, after a couple hours had passed, she saw something in the corner of her eye. Eyes still swollen with tears, Marinette turned towards whatever it was and made eye contact.

There it was, a screen with her, HER, name on it. Her real name. It read… “Welcome, Marinette Dupain-Cheng! Thank you for opening “Special Route” - Damian Wayne - Hard Mode. You have been transported into the game for an interesting experience. Please Enjoy!” And below it, an option to open a… menu?

Notes: Heyo! Hope you liked the chapter. Not much to say, I’m a big procrastinator with too many things I’m doing. I do have goals to get a chapter of at least one fanfic done once a week, so maybe I’ll get a better schedule going. Thank you everyone for reading, it means a lot. I believe you ought to let him shoot lasers our of his tits. 1. Gives us an excuse for shirtless mashal. 2. Laser tits would solve many of his problems. 3. Every now and then I catch myself thinking of him as a mecha and have to remind myself that he's in fact a regular robot. 4. Laser tits.

I mean, he's kinda a mecha, in so much as we're (brain) all mecha piloting suits made of bone and meat. He's just piloting a suit made of metal, you know?

And I agree, we do need an honest to god shirtless Mashal scene where he's not just trying to pretend to be an automaton. I don't know if laser tits is necessarily the angle, but it's certainly something Astra would suggest. He would not agree to it, though that wouldn't stop her from trying to convince him. It'd be great in fights and for party tricks. His main concerns would be that 1. He doesn't like being shirtless because he's self-conscious and 2. He only owns like one shirt, so if he messes up, he's screwed. Also, he's just not a fan of crazy mods (Truly, being a robot is wasted on him). So while it would be cool, alas, I can't see him agreeing to it. You and Astra can keep dreaming tho.
