The thermae were constructed around 125 BC. Hundred years later, the baths were connected to Pompeii's aquaduct. They were damaged in the earthquake of 62 AD.

Zenos had kept this from him, and Archon fully intended to hold that as leverage for as long as possible.

He sank lower in the water with a contented sigh and slitted eyes. The training arena was connected to a place to wash after working up a sweat, as well as a few more Garlean amenities Archon hadn’t previously been introduced to. A tub, a bit larger than the marble bath in Zenos’ quarters, was sunk into the floor, filled with ceruleum-heated water and stirred by copious jets of bubbles. “For muscle therapy and to encourage blood flow,” Archon had been told by the attendant he’d pressured into giving him a tour.

Archon was sure it did all that, but more importantly, it was warm, it was steamy, and it was absolutely glorious. His scales felt hydrated in the dry wintry air for the first time in weeks. He could spend hours in the bubbles, their lift buoying him just enough to keep from sinking but not enough to break the surface into the cold air.

Steps on the stone floor made Archon turn his head, eyes sliding up to find his husband looking down at him, unimpressed. “Again? You take more time in recovery than you do in training.”

“Warm up your damn country and I might get out,” Archon replied lazily. “I’m making up for the lost time when I didn’t know this existed.”

“At least something in Garlemald agrees with you.”
