so landlord put a bunch of kill traps in the basement over christmas. after a few days they checked on them; no mice. another week goes by, i get home, i find 4 dead mice in the traps. they reset the traps and add even more traps (there are now nine traps).
we receive another email from landlord saying how “distressed” (a word they keep repeating) they are that the house has mice and how they’ve never had mice in all their years of owning the house (bullshit, it’s practically in the woods). and they say checked the basement for points of entry when they initially set traps and couldn’t find anything, and also went over it with some mammal-finding thermal device. And Yet Mice. so. logical conclusion is, mice can enter through insanely tiny holes, you are not a pest control professional, you must have missed a spot.
well no. they say there must have been a pre-existing nest of mice in someone’s mattress or air conditioner or whatever in the basement and are urging us to “declutter” the basement (which contains a modest amount of our storage as four adult humans living in a house that is not very big).
this is insane to me because if there was a nest of mice why did it take a week for them to show up in the traps. there’s no food down there; how are they surviving. they aren’t even house mice they are CLEARLY wild deer mice you can tell by the coloration.. they’re getting in from outside! the mice are not coming from inside the house

what’s the weirdest dream and nightmare you’ve ever had?
have a good day!
I don't often remember my dreams, and if I do, they tend to fade within minutes after waking up. However, one of the strangest dreams I still recall happened years ago. I was in a swimming lesson during PE class, but instead of a regular pool, it was a salt water thermal bath, and my PE teacher was Snape (yes, he wore his frock coat and cape instead of trunks – thank god). For some reason, the swimming hall was also a library and a clothing store. The clothing store could be accessed via bifurcated stairs, but one of the flights oddly led straight into the ceiling. The library shared the space with the pool, and the bookshelves were so tall that you had to fly to reach the upper shelves. Instead of librarians, there were dozens of E.T.s floating around, who stole books and also jewelry that was hidden among the books for some reason...? Also, pest control was trying to get rid of them since the establishment saw them as annoying thieves. When I woke up, I was just as confused as you probably are now because literally nothing made sense.

It began to make more sense when Ms Massis Class noticed bees swarming in clusters near the attic and chimney outside their 100-year-old house.
They thought Saylor might be hearing the buzzing near her bedroom ceiling.
Ms Massis Class called a pest control company that found the winged insects were honeybees, a protected species in the US.
She and her husband contacted a beekeeper who noticed the insects were travelling towards the floorboards of the attic - right above her daughter's bedroom.
The bees had spent eight months building the monster hive.
The beekeeper brought a thermal camera to scan the walls in the three-year-old's bedroom.
"It lit up like Christmas," Ms Massis Class said.

A Comprehensive Guide on Termite Infestation and Treatment in Singapore
Introduction
Did you know termites evolved from cockroaches? This fascinating discovery, shared by NUS professors, dates back 170 million years. These tiny insects are capable of digesting cellulose – the organic compound found in wood and plant cell walls – a characteristic that has contributed to their survival and spread. In Singapore, termite infestation has become a serious issue, with reports from the BCA indicating that termites can cause up to 15% structural damage to buildings!
Tumblr media
This guide will explore the early signs of termite infestation, preventive measures, and expert termite control solutions in Singapore.
Common Termite Species in Singapore and Their Impact
Termites, often referred to as ‘white ants,’ feed primarily on cellulose-based materials like wood. The warm and humid climate of Singapore provides an ideal environment for these pests to thrive. In Singapore, there are three main types of termites:
Drywood Termites: These termites live in dry wood and do not require contact with soil.
Subterranean Termites: These termites nest underground and travel to food sources using mud tubes.
Dampwood Termites: These termites thrive in damp, decaying wood, such as fallen trees and logs.
Recent studies show that 70% of termite infestations in Singapore are caused by subterranean termites.
Early Signs of Termite Infestation in Singapore
Mud Tubes: Subterranean termites build mud tubes for shelter as they travel between their nests and food sources. These tubes, typically the size of a pencil, can be found on wooden structures or concrete foundations.
Working Tubes: Connecting the nest in soil to wood.
Drop Tubes: Connecting wood back to the soil.
Exploratory Tubes: Extending from soil without connecting to wood.
Wood Tunnels: Also known as galleries, these tunnels are hidden within wood and can be detected when the infested wood is broken open. High-tech devices are used by pest experts to detect these tunnels, even without visible signs.
Discarded Wings: Swarmers or alates (flying termites) shed their wings after mating or establishing new colonies. Finding wings on windowsills or floors is a strong indicator of infestation.
Frass (Termite Droppings): Frass are tiny, six-sided pellets resembling sawdust. These droppings are commonly found around entry points to termite nests. Spotting frass should prompt immediate action.
Tight-Fitting Doors and Windows: Termite activity can cause timber to swell, making it difficult to open or close doors and windows.
Discolouration and Crumbling Wood: A change in color (black or brown) and the crumbling of wood are clear signs of termite damage.
Damaged Paint and Blisters: Termites produce moisture that can seep between paint and surfaces, causing blistering similar to water damage.
Hollow Wood and 'Head Banging' Sounds: Termites consume wood from the inside, resulting in a hollow sound when tapped. Additionally, the quiet clicking or chewing sounds are produced when termites are disturbed.
Preventive Termite Treatment Measures
Termite-Proof Your Foundation: Use concrete instead of wood in your home's foundation. If wood is unavoidable, apply a sealant to prevent termite infestation.
Seal Leaks: Termites are attracted to moisture, so fix any leaks and cracks that may invite these pests.
Pre-Treat Wood: Apply borate or eco-friendly termiticides to wooden structures before painting or priming.
Store Materials Properly: Keep cardboard boxes and woodpiles away from your home to reduce the risk of attracting termites.
Schedule Regular Inspections: Prevention is the best approach. Have your property inspected at least once a year by professional exterminators.
Expert Termite Treatment Techniques in Singapore
Thermal Imaging: This high-tech method helps detect temperature variations in infested areas, indicating termite presence. Thermal imaging is effective in areas like false ceilings, door frames, and wooden skirtings.
Termite Baiting: Bait stations containing cellulose attract termites. The bait contains insect growth regulators (IGRs) that disrupt the termite’s moulting process, ultimately eliminating the colony over 3-6 months.
Soil Drenching: This method targets subterranean termites by applying termicides into the soil around trees or plants, killing the colonies underground.
Foam Insecticide Treatment: For drywood termite infestations, foam insecticides are injected into infested areas such as wood cracks or wall openings. The foam penetrates deeply and eliminates termites on contact.
Dusting: A cost-effective, conventional method involves puffing insecticidal dust into mud tubes. Worker termites carry the dust back to their colony, gradually eliminating the entire nest.
Conclusion
Detecting termite infestation early can save your property from significant structural damage. By implementing preventive measures, you can reduce the likelihood of infestation. However, if you suspect an infestation, it is crucial to seek professional help. ORIGIN Exterminators specialize in comprehensive termite control and treatment services, providing effective solutions to protect your property.

The Benefits of Magnetic PVC Door Curtains for Easy Access and Insulation
Tumblr media
Magnetic PVC door curtains offer a unique combination of convenience, insulation, and durability, making them an excellent choice for both residential and commercial spaces. Whether you’re seeking to control indoor temperatures, reduce energy consumption, or simply need a functional door covering, magnetic PVC door curtains are the perfect solution. In this article, we’ll explore the key benefits of these innovative curtains and how they can transform your living space.
What Are Magnetic PVC Door Curtains?
Magnetic PVC door curtains are made from durable, weather-resistant PVC material, equipped with magnetic strips along the edges. These curtains are designed to offer an easy-to-install solution for insulating doors while providing a flexible entryway. The magnets allow the curtain to close automatically, sealing off gaps and preventing drafts, dust, or insects from entering.
Unlike traditional door curtains, magnetic PVC versions provide an enhanced level of insulation, while their ease of use makes them ideal for high-traffic areas. Whether used in homes, offices, or even warehouses, these curtains offer significant advantages over other door coverings.
Energy Efficiency and Insulation Benefits
One of the main reasons people turn to magnetic PVC door curtains is their ability to improve insulation. These curtains act as a barrier to temperature exchange, helping to keep the warmth inside during winter and blocking out excess heat during the summer months. As part of your energy-saving strategy, thermal door curtains like these can reduce your reliance on heating and cooling systems, leading to lower utility bills.
The thermal door curtains created with magnetic PVC are perfect for homes or businesses that need to regulate temperatures quickly and efficiently. By installing these curtains over entryways or windows, you can create a more stable and comfortable environment, regardless of the weather outside.
Easy Installation for Immediate Benefits
One of the standout features of magnetic PVC door curtains is their simplicity and ease of installation. Whether you’re upgrading existing doors or adding insulation to a new space, these curtains require minimal effort to set up. Unlike traditional curtains that require rods, hooks, or complex mounting systems, easy curtain installation is one of the primary selling points of magnetic PVC door curtains.
The curtains are typically designed to hang directly from the door frame, with magnets embedded in the fabric that effortlessly snap together to create a secure seal. This ensures that your insulated door curtains are not only functional but also easy to maintain.
Durability and Long-Term Use
Another major benefit of magnetic PVC door curtains is their durability. Made from tough, weather-resistant PVC, these curtains can withstand the elements much better than fabric-based alternatives. They are resistant to wear, tear, and fading, making them ideal for both indoor and outdoor use.
For homeowners or business owners looking for a long-lasting solution, magnetic PVC door curtains offer a cost-effective way to reduce wear and tear on doors while providing consistent insulation over time. The sturdiness of PVC ensures that your insulated door curtains maintain their functionality and appearance for years to come.
Insect Protection and Dust Control
In addition to insulation, magnetic PVC door curtains serve an important role in keeping your space free from insects and dust. The magnetic closure ensures that the curtain remains sealed, preventing unwanted pests such as flies, mosquitoes, and other insects from entering your home or business. This makes them an excellent choice for kitchens, patios, or areas with high insect activity.
By blocking out the elements and pests, these door curtains help to maintain a clean and comfortable environment indoors, especially in places that need to be kept free from contaminants like offices, kitchens, or healthcare facilities.
Where to Use Magnetic PVC Door Curtains
Magnetic PVC door curtains can be used in a wide variety of spaces, from residential to commercial applications. Here are a few areas where these curtains are especially beneficial:
Entryways and Doors: Magnetic PVC door curtains can be used as an energy-efficient barrier for your home’s entryways, helping to prevent drafts and control indoor temperatures.
Patios and Balconies: Whether you have a sliding door or a large opening leading to your patio, magnetic PVC curtains can seal the space while allowing for easy access.
Warehouses and Commercial Spaces: These curtains are a popular choice for industrial environments where temperature control and dust reduction are important.
Kitchens and Dining Areas: Keep insects out while maintaining comfort in food prep areas with these highly functional, easy-to-use curtains.
Customizable Solutions for Unique Spaces
For those with specific needs or non-standard door sizes, custom door curtains made from PVC material can provide a tailored solution that fits perfectly. Whether you have an oversized door, an irregular frame, or a specific style preference, custom door curtains can be made to suit your exact requirements, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Conclusion
Magnetic PVC door curtains offer a unique combination of convenience, insulation, and durability, making them a top choice for homeowners and businesses alike. Their ease of installation, energy efficiency, and ability to control temperature and dust make them a valuable addition to any space. Whether you’re looking to create a more comfortable home environment, reduce energy costs, or protect your space from pests, thermal door curtains made from magnetic PVC are a practical solution that offers both style and function.

Comprehensive Guide to Pest Control: Your Key to a Pest-Free Home
Comprehensive Guide to Pest Control: Your Key to a Pest-Free Home
Tumblr media
‍ Every homeowner knows that pests can be more than just a simple nuisance. They can cause significant damage to your property, pose health risks, and even affect your quality of life. That's why it's crucial to have a trusted partner like Control Pest Management Brisbane.
Understanding the Importance of Pest Control
Pest control is an essential aspect of maintaining a safe, healthy, and comfortable living environment. It involves the regulation or management of species defined as pests, which can harm your health, ecology, or economy.
The services offered by Control Pest Management Brisbane are designed to eliminate various pests, including rodents, insects, and birds, that might pose risks to your property and health. But with the myriad of pest control services available, how much can you expect to pay? Let's delve into the cost implications.
The Cost of Pest Control Services
When it comes to pest control services, costs can vary significantly depending on several factors. These can range from the size of your property, the type of pest, the extent of the infestation, and the type of treatment required.
Typical Pest Control Costs
On average, you can expect to pay between $200 and $700 for most basic pest control jobs. Here's a breakdown of what you might expect to pay for specific pest problems:
General Internal and External Treatment: This service usually costs between $180 and $220. It includes the treatment of common pests like cockroaches, ants, spiders, and silverfish. The treatment areas include internal and external pest control spray, wall cavities, roof voids, and sensitive areas like kitchen and bathroom cupboards.
Rodent and Mice Treatment: For rodent or mice treatments, you can expect to pay between $120 and $155 for internal treatments. This service will treat a common infestation. For more severe infestations, additional measures may be required, which could increase the cost.
Flea Treatment: For a flea control service, you can expect to pay between $135 and $150 for an internal treatment. If you require an external treatment, the cost will depend on the size of your yard.
Termite Inspections: Termite inspection services usually start at $220. If you require termite treatments or barriers, the cost can start at $660 and can go up to $4000 depending on the size of your home and the extent of the infestation.
Factors Influencing Pest Control Costs
Pest control costs can vary depending on a number of factors, including:
The area where you live: Different regions may have different common pests, which can affect the cost of pest control services.
The extent of the problem: More severe infestations might require more extensive treatments, thus resulting in higher costs.
The type of work that has to be carried out: Different pests require different treatment methods, which can influence the cost.
How easy access is to your property: If your property is difficult to reach or navigate, this might increase the cost of pest control services.
Commercial Pest Control Costs
For commercial properties, pre-purchase pest inspection can be as low as $250. However, a combined building and pest inspection typically costs between $300 and $700. In commercial areas, pre-slab termite protection is used, which usually costs between $10 and $20 per square meter. A termite barrier that's used underneath the concrete slab as a protective barrier against termite infestation can cost between $15 and $40 per linear meter.
Preparing Your Home for Pest Control Treatment
To ensure the effectiveness of the pest control treatment, certain preparations need to be made:
Inside the House
Lift loose items up off the floor, such as clothing and toys.
Keep children, toddlers, and pets away from treatment areas until dry.
Mop your floors the night before the treatment.
Clear kitchen benchtops to remove open food products from the area.
Cover birds and fish/reptile tanks during the treatment. If applicable, switch off fish tank pumps and filters.
Outside the House
Move loose items, toys, and hanging clothes away from exterior walls.
Shut windows and doors before the treatment begins.
How to Choose a Pest Control Service
When it comes to choosing a pest control service provider like Control Pest Management Brisbane, there are a few things to consider:
Experience: How long has the company been in business?
Licensing: Is the company licensed to offer pest control services?
References: Can the company provide references that you can follow up?

This guide explores the most popular siding materials used in the Greater Vancouver area, detailing their subcategories, benefits, and ideal applications.
Cedar Siding: Natural Beauty and Versatility
Cedar siding is celebrated for its timeless appeal, sustainability, and ability to complement Vancouver’s natural surroundings. Known for its resistance to rot and pests, cedar is an ideal choice for homes in the region’s damp climate.

Lap Siding: Overlapping horizontal boards give a classic, rustic look. This style suits everything from heritage homes to modern designs looking for warmth.
Tongue and Groove: Interlocking planks create a seamless, modern aesthetic. This style is ideal for sleek architectural designs or as interior accents.

Metal Siding: Sleek and Durable
Metal siding has grown in popularity for its clean lines, durability, and low maintenance. It’s especially valued in Vancouver’s urban settings and modern architectural designs.
Aluminum Panels: Lightweight, rust-resistant, and available in various finishes, aluminum panels are ideal for coastal properties where salt air can be a concern.
Prefabricated Insulated Metal Panels: Combining insulation and cladding into one sleek solution, these panels provide exceptional thermal performance, moisture control, and a modern aesthetic, making them a practical choice for energy-efficient homes and commercial projects.
Corrugated Metal: With its signature wavy pattern, corrugated metal adds a modern industrial look to homes or accent walls.
Standing Seam: Vertical panels with raised seams provide a sleek, architectural appearance while efficiently shedding water.
Benefits of Metal Siding:
Fire-resistant and virtually impervious to pests.
Recyclable and environmentally sustainable.
Low-maintenance, requiring only occasional cleaning.
Fiber Cement Siding: Durable and Versatile
Fiber cement siding combines the best of both worlds: the appearance of natural materials like wood or stone with the durability of cement. It’s a particularly practical choice in Vancouver due to its ability to withstand moisture and fluctuating temperatures.
Plank Siding: Resembles traditional wood lap siding but offers superior resistance to rot and pests. A popular choice for both modern and classic designs.
Shingles: Pre-cut shingles mimic cedar but require less maintenance. They’re often used on gables or decorative accents.
Vertical Panels: Perfect for minimalist designs, vertical fiber cement panels offer a sleek and uniform look.
Board-and-Batten: Fiber cement versions of this classic design offer durability with an updated aesthetic.
Benefits of Fiber Cement Siding:
Non-combustible, making it a safe choice for urban areas.
Resistant to cracking, warping, and pests.
Wide range of styles and finishes to suit any home design.
Stucco: Seamless Elegance
Stucco has a long history in architecture and is favored for its smooth, clean appearance. Its adaptability to various architectural styles makes it a versatile option in Vancouver.
Traditional Stucco: Made with a blend of cement, lime, and sand, this type offers breathability and flexibility to prevent cracking.
Synthetic Stucco (EIFS): This lightweight version includes insulation layers, making it an energy-efficient option.
Benefits of Stucco:
Seamless design prevents water infiltration.
Low-maintenance and long-lasting when properly sealed.
Works well on modern, Mediterranean, or traditional-style homes.
Stone Veneer: Timeless Luxury
Stone veneer adds a touch of elegance and natural beauty to exteriors. It’s often used as an accent material but can also be applied to entire facades.
Natural Stone Veneer: Thinly sliced real stone provides an authentic look and feel. It’s durable but more expensive and heavier than alternatives.
Manufactured Stone Veneer: Made from concrete, this option replicates natural stone at a lower cost and weight.
Ledgestone: Features small, stacked stones for a rugged, textured finish.
Ashlar: A more uniform stone pattern with square and rectangular shapes for a polished appearance.
Benefits of Stone Veneer:
Adds resale value and curb appeal.
Highly durable and weather-resistant.
Complements a variety of other siding materials.
Brick Veneer: Classic and Enduring
Brick veneer combines the timeless look of traditional brick with a more affordable and practical approach. Unlike structural brick, veneer serves as a cladding material.
Traditional Brick Veneer: Full-sized bricks bonded to a backing wall, offering a solid and enduring appearance.
Thin Brick Veneer: Lightweight and easier to install, thin bricks provide the same look without the added bulk.
Rustic Brick: Features an aged, weathered texture, perfect for vintage-inspired designs.
Smooth Brick: Uniform and polished, often used in contemporary or minimalist designs.
Benefits of Brick Veneer:
Excellent fire resistance and insulation properties.
Little to no maintenance required.
Versatile in blending with other materials like cedar or fiber cement.
Choosing the Best Siding for Your Vancouver Home
When deciding on the perfect siding, consider factors like your home’s architectural style, budget, and maintenance preferences. Vancouver’s climate demands materials that are resistant to moisture, mold, and temperature changes. Materials like cedar, fiber cement, and metal offer durability and performance, while stucco, stone, and brick veneer add unique aesthetic value.
Additionally, incorporating advanced building wraps and energy-efficient technologies like Passive House and NetZero principles can further optimize your siding’s performance. These elements enhance moisture resistance, improve insulation, and contribute to a sustainable, eco-friendly home.
