#There's more to characters then “being badass”

Okay, so I know there's a bigger branch of this post.

But I want to take this a different direction.

So, when Harrow and her team of spirits fight off Wake they win because Ortus believes so hard in Nonius that he brings a perfect fix-it fic version of Nonius into being that is just strong enough to fight Wake back. And for reference, Wake is quite possibly the strongest willed character in the entire series bar none (she orbital dropped onto Pluto with a broken space suit, crashes with next to no oxygen in her system and at lethal levels of hypoxia, and she's still trying to get to her feet still trying to get to the tomb, still cursing Gideon, the nuns have to put her down).

So imagine, narcissist Ianthe, tower prince, gets her brain shoved out of her puppet and there's Palamedes. She thought he was dead. But wait, what's this, it's his entire fanfiction cast that looks strangely like an erotic novel she read once out of boredom. But wait, again, something is wrong. Every character at his beck and call is imbued with the strength, skill, and determination of Camilla Hect the intergalactic badass that wiped the floor with Ianthe's swordmaster boy toy (let the record show that I tried to type "boytoy" and forgot the space but autocorrect changed it to "bottom" and I think that's very accurate, thank you auto-correct) that she stole her skills from. So Ianthe has to go all out against one of the most dangerous Necromancers she knows (possibly the most dangerous non-lyctor she is aware of) and a small army of regency smut clones of one of the most dangerous fighters she is aware of (and I'm not laundering Camilla's skill, she went toe to toe with an incredibly skilled lyctor while she had broken bones and blood loss and these clones are Camilla as Palamedes sees her, so even better). Also, maybe there's a Naberius specter in there and he's pissed too, but more of a third party to it all.

If this is an actual battle in a river bubble, it probably looks less like Ianthe struggling to hold her own and more Palamedes just relentlessly beating back an unstoppable force with countless immovable objects.

Though, let's be honest, it's a battle of wills. They're both incredibly stubborn. Palamedes just wants it more. For Ianthe this is a game for her pride and personal goals. For Palamedes, it's a battle of life or death.

Seriously tho Palamedes said his battle with Ianthe took "a great deal longer" than a few seconds. How long did it take?? What was it like?

It would have been in the River, like Wake and Nonius' duel. And it would have been between two master necromancers already proficient in navigating the River. It could be anything. All bets are off.

okay friends. it's been a while since i did an "anime recommendation" post but i'm gonna try do more of them! just remind me on anon or something, i love doing them & sharing my fave anime w/ y'all, duh.

let me yap to you about one of my favorite animes ever.

"samurai champloo" サムライチャンプルー (2004)

the series takes place during an "alternate" version of Edo Japan (anywhere from 1603 to 1867) and it's not historically accurate at all, it's basically just historical fanfiction. even though the anime takes place during the past, the characters are written veryyy contemporary (2000s lingo basically). expect to hear upbeat, hip-hop music with otherwordly yet immaculately produced instrumentals/samples while there's swords clashing.

speaking of music...

let me tell you. the soundtrack on this anime is fucking INSANE. if you enjoy hip hop music, fresh beats, instrumental music that will make you stay up at night and question your existence, this anime has it. mind you, this music was released in the year 2004, and kids on tiktok now are jamming to "aruarian dance" (one of my favorite instrumental songs from the OST) and putting it in the background of their influencer or goofy cat reels. the year i'm writing this post is 2025 and the kiddos fucking looove this anime's soundtrack. it's absolutely timeless. get. into. it. it's that fucking good. all of it is on spotify and other streaming platforms btw. support my king nujabes.

to summarize the plot, Samurai Champloo follows the adventures of three (3) characters. a young girl who's originally a tea waitress (Fuu) who brings two gifted swordsmen with her. their polarizing personalities make the series extremely entertaining, as they often clash and argue over anything. (just dudes being dudes, y'know?)

Mugen (in red) who's your typical jackass. he's rude and lewd. loves women. very unhinged. a lot of fans vibe w/ this guy, his personality is unlike anything i've ever seen in anime. absolute trailblazer. he's the type of kid in high school to pick a fight with you for absolutely no goddamn reason, like over your lunch or something petty.

Jin (in blue) is your typical good guy. quiet dude who is calm and collected. he rarely smiles, and is basically that one quiet kid who's a total badass. we all knew that kid growing up. that's jin. we love jin.

i guarantee you the first episode of this anime will have you HOOKED. this anime is the origin of this iconic misleading boob gif btw. weeb tumblr veterans know exactly what i'm talking about.

the first episode is such a rollercoaster, and a really good introduction to the series. oh and this is one of those rare anime series where the english dub is STELLAR. highly recommend the english dub if you don't like reading japanese subtitles. it fits perfectly with the hip hop music playing in the background. you've got amazing voices like Steve Blum (voices Mugen), Kirk Thornton (voices Jin), and the iconic Kari Wahlgren (voices Fuu).

let me know if you guys pick up this anime, it's a classic! you can get your daily dose of Japan, sword clashing, and hip hop beats. there's about 26 episodes total, nothing too crazy long.

SHARK 🦈 IS BACK BABY!!!!! Sorry for being gone! But uh there is so much that I have in headcanons I'm just going to name the character and a list of headcanons!

Sword:

He is part bird...but he had to grow his wings feathers and so much more. It was a very painful experience for him, and was shocked when his dad told him he has to go through this again in his teen years... but it will be less painful. [Like he was going through puberty and bird puberty at the same time heheh]

He is Autistic and was taught to ALLWAYS look someone in the eye when talking, because it is disrespectful...if you don't[His dad Taught him this.]

As a kid he would only eat like 4 foods because he didn't like how most of the food felt in his mouth. His dad didn't mind making the same 4 foods over and over again. He really didn't think much about it. It wa sa little annoying, when he didn't want to eat the food that wasn't the 4 foods he liked, but it's not much of a problem now.

Allways and I mean Allways looking out for his friends! To making sure they are getting enough sleep to making sure they are eating healthy, even drinking water... but Somtimes he really needs to take his own advice... on sleeping...

Sword is cubby, but very much strong. He doesn't mind the weight.

Gets up like at sunrise, and from there starts training. He will start his day getting something to eat [Most likely he will eat like a protein bar/ shake or a Smoothie/w some eggs] taking a shower and brushing his teeth. And then Getting dressed. And does some stretches then starts training.

Because his he part bird he Somtimes gets the urges to make like a nest or to pluck some of his feathers. To make sure he is in shape. He hummus alot... to himself finds it very claming.

He somtimes gets very embarrassed when he starts making any kind of bird noise. He thinks it's dumb that he can make it.

His Wings can give away some emotions. That he has. Like if he is embarrassed his wings near his face will try to cover his face. And his wings in the back will flap.

He has fourth wings two near his face [that doesn't really help him fly[ and two BIG ones on his back.

He doesn't have like a social media, and thinks if he did get one he would most likely get very addicted, and that would take time of his day and he could be using that time to train.

He was shocked that you can listen to music and train at the same time!? [Rocket was the one to show him this]

Rocket:

He is part Shark, and did NOT have to grow his fins.

He can't swim but if he could he would be so MUCH faster then anyone. [Because what ever Medkit put in those prostitutes it will like freeze up his body!?]

He grew up kind of poor, ans still is kind of poor. He is use to this, and makes do what he has with his dad.

Rocket will at times just cut out or not use any part of Moldy/Rotten food. Just to save money for him and his dad. Sword thinks it's CARZY he does this and feel like he will end up sick one day.

Rocket will train with Sword and at times put on music. He even gave Sword his first peace of technology. A Walkman that he used use.

Rocket likes biting people and did this alot as a kid. It helped him get out his anger. Only today he bites one person. That is Sword, because Sword doesn't mind that he needs to get his anger out of that way. He was given like a stress ball when he does get mad, but he been just biting it and not squeezing it.

Rocket likes his Shark teeth. He thinks he looks badass!

He can smell blood [because Most Sharks can] he doesn't mind the smell he just fi ds it odd that he smell it. But it has helped him in pass finding out his Sword or his dad got hurt.

Rocket knows how to cook, but that doesn't mean he has to like it. In fact he will just make himself like a cup of noodle, and call it day. Even if he just had one the day before.

He has more then one prosthetic, leg and arm. He made them and did not buy them. But the one he mostly uses was bought for him.

Rocket is very much a math gut and loves finding the solution to the problem. But the Subject he hated the most was ELA. Especially the essays....

When Rocket was out of playground he was afraid and scared. So he acted very mean to people, that tried coming close. But looking back he feels kinda bad for acting that way. He hasn't said anything about this, but he has a feeling. That he people that are now close with him, knows he meant no harm.

He likes the Stars and wants to see them all someday. He kinda has a better view of them now then in playgrounds, but there are some that can't be seen due to the light pollution.

Rocket at times sleeping over at Swords house will grab him just to keep warm. It happens every time he goes there. Sword doesn't mind, but he does have a tight grip.

Venomshank:

Venomshank didn't think Sword was Autistic he was just an odd kid. That wouldn't listen at times. But he also was very much happy to find out he wasn't a bad parent, and most of the things Sword did as a kid was because he had autism.

His and the other SFOTH make bets all the time. Venomshank though his kid aka Sword was gay. And most of them agreed only a few didn't see it. Sword has not idea they do this. But if he ever finds out... Let's just say his dad has lost before... exactly 20$...

Venomshank has gone ferrell before and it was with Sword. He felt so so bad after the fact this happened and was so proud of his son... he does have a scar from this. They both don't like talking about this... They will never be the same if they do talk about it.

Venomshank had to bring a list of things about Sword favorite food [the only food he will eat] and favorite toys. And was so scared to leave him with the other SFOTH. Because he felt like Sword would break down with out him.

Venomshank knew that Sword was part bird and tried to warn him about the painful process...Sword didn't understand at the time what he was talking about but now he does.

Venomshank taught Swodd how to fight and how to fly. At the time he was making him Practice everyday. But now he feels so bad because he felt if he went very hard on the kid...

Venomshank was very happy to hear that Sword has expanded the meals that he eats. But doesn't mind making him a good old PBJ at times.

Venomshank is still learning how to be the best dad for his son even though Sword is in his 20's [24 if you where Wondering]

Venomshank also likes the sunrise... and gets up at the same time as Sword.

Venomshank is very close to his bird, and loves hima dn his son to death. He at times will make his bird do puzzles. It's fun watching him.

As the self proclaimed #1 fan of the Warriors and a previous administrator on the wikia fan page (before I essentially stopped being active there), I love this post and thought it would be fun to go over @nexkoyotl points here by fact checking based on my own knowledge and experience as a fellow lover of all things Warriors...

• Somewhat correct. Sullys "girlfriend" is a questionable statement. The Warriors were looking for him to shut him up because he had been talking shit about the Warriors. Mercy told the Warriors where to find him (always working on his car) because she was bitter he never gave her attention

• Essentially Correct however I do not like the jailbreak comics and actually rewrote them myself because I think the comic was a poor representation of the characters and was unrealistic. The riffs suckered Swan into doing it himself so the riffs didn't really do much except distract some of the guards

• Correct. The Warriors doubted and clowned Cochise at first during his initiation because he lived with his mom. He ended up becoming one of the most valued, loyal, and badass Warriors

• Interesting take. Never thought about it but I don't hate it. It was never made obvious and does seem hard to rationalize due to the era and how normal it was to shame people back then for being quote "faggots." He was one of the younger, weaker Warriors who was protected by the other Warriors. He was loved for his artistic ability which allowed the Warriors to spread their name across the city and was the only one who wasn't a mischief. I'll roll with it

• They all have a few "girlfriends."

• Correct. Cleon was the Destroyers leaders right hand man before being betrayed and acused of being unloyal to the clique. Vermin followed Cleon and Cleon became the better gang leader

• Correct (kind of). The script was written so that Mercy and Fox would get together but in real life the two did not have chemistry. The actors who played Swan and Mercy had much better chemistry so Walter Hill rewrote the script

• Correct. Extortion. Except more than $25 although exact amount is not clear. If a business didn't pay on time, they would lose the Warriors' protection and often be shut down by the Warriors themselves

Warrior dump facts.

As a teenager, The Warriors was my special interests and I LOVE the movie and I used to play the Rockstar game when i was younger and now I LOVE the Lin & Eisa album so, here are some facts from the movie (+the comics) and game (Not canon to each other) to give you guys ideas for fanfics, fanarts, etc.

I'll refer to them as their masculine counterpart since I'm talking about the movie/comic/game, where all (except Mercy) are men.

Warrior facts.

The most known fact, 2 warriors weren't included in the album, Vermin and Snow

The Warriors get their money by mugging, and selling Stereos they steal from cars

Cleon has a Girlfriend named Lincoln, she was supposed to appear at the start of the movie but they deleted the scene

Mercy hated that his then boyfriend Sully (Yes, the guy from the Orphans) care more for his car

The warriors and the riffs brake Ajax out of prison

Cochise lived in Harlem until he and his mother moved to Brooklyn

Rembrandt is gay

Ajax has like a few girlfriends

The warriors started as part of another gang "The Destroyers" they had problems with the leader so Cleon and Vermin left and formed the Warriors

(Not sure if this is true) Fox was supposed to be Mercy's love interest at first

The warriors make some Coney businesses pay them for protection, 25$ weekly I think

Their hangout is an old abandoned building that, to me, looked like a storage for the amusement park

Cochise lived in Harlem, yes but didn't join the boppers 'cuse he thought they weren't tough and he didn't like their colors.

In a deleted scene, Cleon said there's like 120 warrior members

Mercy dated a rich guy. He gets her an apartment and other stuff. This, of course, causes trouble between her and Swan

Cowboy is really protective of his hat, and calls it buddy

Rembrandt also goes to an art class

Swan was a destroyer too, but him and Cowboy left the gang before Cleon created the warriors

Then Cleon ask Swan to join the warriors, and he accepts only under the condition of them accepting cowboy too

Only Cleon, Vermin, Swan, and Cowboy were Destroyers first. The rest arrived directly to the Warriors

Mercy dated the rich guy to get her apartment because she thought the Warriors life was no way to live

Technically, Mercy and Swan are not really together, tho Swan insist for her to go back to Coney with him

They (Mercy and Swan) end up reconciliating, and she goes back to living with him in Coney

Rembrandt sprays paint on his enemies faces as a fighting attack

Before Fox, they also lost a member named Ash, the leader of the Destroyers killed him

He (Ash) was also really close to Vermin, and his death affects him pretty deeply

Rembrandt's art teacher tries to convince him that the gang is only using him and to leave it so he drops his class

Mercy was not only Sully's girlfriend but also the Orphans' prostitute

Rembrandt gives Swan a drawing of Mercy that he made for him

After Cyrus' death, everything went back to the "normal". The truce was off, and the gangs went against each other again

This is not an IN movie/game fact, just a movie/game fact, but still interesting

You may know the movie symbol, a skull with feathers. Well, this symbol looked too similar to an actual gang that sued them, so it changed to a snake in flames

These are some of it, if I remember more, I'll do another list, but I think this are the most important. Do with this information as you guys pleased.

Elizabeth Midford is a character I have such complex feelings about lol. Like I honestly do not like her that much but I'm also super defensive of her? I just don't like her because as a person she seems very self absorbed and way too inconsistent/easy to mess with. I know some people flipped on her character after Book of Atlantic (Valid, character development always results in re-evaluation of characters, thats what it's for) but tbh I still don't like her all that much. But she has some admirable traits and can be very caring, and I can respect her and understand her motivations even if I personally disagree with almost all of it XD But so many people are like oh she's super annoying and stupid! No! Leave her alone! She doesn't deserve to be treated like that! Her motivations and circumstances serve to explain her character very well and at the very least she has my sympathy!

alright this one's a little different

its a thumbnail comic of a scene from a silly fic i have YET to write (but i have half of it plotted out/partially written). was a fun choreo exercise. additional context at bottom.

had to omit some plot details for simplicity's sake, but the basic premise is as follows:

"sort of crack taken seriously in that a freak weather event occurs in radiator springs. the green and white cars are just random tourists who lightning is helping evacuate. he's borrowed one of mater's towing cables… but alas he is not a tow truck. also i throw rocks at him! {he doesn't break his powertrain [axel] just a link arm + a few other suspension bits. it's to nerf him for later to let another character do a good deed in his place} {also he has the tow cable because he was closest to rescue the tourists but everyone got separated}"

the tourists also were NOT supposed to be out exploring carburetor country, there were weather warnings posted, but they lied and went anyways and lightning had to find and rescue them </3 (and then they get detoured and This happens</3)

okay, bc i have seen this argument alot now (and it also seems to be the view point of aonuma himself..) is that "zelda cant do everything link does bc whats the point then"

and i take personal offense on that bc its a stupid argument (in. my. very. personal. opinion.- not judging people for liking it. its a ME thing)

whats the point? its that its her. its still a different character, different in story, background, personality, but i WANT to play zelda and she can do everything link does, why does she have to be so restricted and be bend over backwards to find some new way to make her 'useful' when link gets to do basically everything no questions asked (the only thing thats hers is like .. sealing power and sacrificial maiden, which i find a little underwhelming to say the least), if theres no point to it why are there always modders that model swap link with someone else, and in that case it has even less impact bc its an artificial model swap with no changes to the story (which can and should still be different when its the vanilla game with a different protagonist... its still a different character), clearly theres joy in just the model being a different one- and that isnt even to mention the story possibilities, since, again, its stil a different character

if we ever (never ... i know who we are talking about here) get to play as ganondorf i want to him to be just as versatile and active as link is, if we got a point and click adventure game for him instead bc 'whats the point' id be disappointed too- you can find any sort of excuse/explanation for zelda to be singled out but the fact remains it tracks with how female characters are often treated, and that hits a very sore spot for me

i guess i am unfortunately one of those annoying people that want to see female characters be treated exactly the same as male characters, possibly bc i am myself afab but identify as agender and have a deeply personal dislike for anything 'traditional' feminine bc i cannot and never will be able to truly live as myself in real life, it influences all of my work, my work is as just as much as my opinion on this, very personal

and in line with my point about modding, i see theres joy in just beign able to play as her even if its like this, i get that, i also get it for the creative aspect (though that mechanic worries me even more for the future bc it really seems to be the path now that -freedom = good, linear anything = bad-) it is a different idea and its not like i cant see that value- im not trying be "right" either, just bc i have that opinion doesnt mean i need everyone to agree, its a very personal thing, if you like it good for you! not for me though, and i think both of that is equally valid

i just personally wish she was allowed to be just like link, fight just like him but be different bc its still her and not him in the end- to be physically/playstyle like jsut like him, but you know ... as her, i dont think shed stop being zelda if she could wield a sword just like him

i dont really know how to get my point/feelings across, i dont want to step too much into personal stuff nor spam people with something that ultimately doesnt interest me alot, im just saddened by it really

so, I've read quite a bit of bagginshield fanfiction, because of course I have, and I've noticed that Bilbo is not as sassy in fic??

Like, is it just me or was Bilbo like, sarcastic and had an attitude in the moveis?? The best example I can I remember off the top of my head of this is when Bilbo tells Gandalf he saw Thorin and co. On Ravenhill and said he had to get to them, and Gandalf said he couldn't make it, and he said "uh, yeah I can." I loved it, honestly, but in fic writers tend to make him softer and shyer? This isn't a problem but I would love to see more sassy Bilbo!

I don't know how many others are agree with me, but I feel like I have to say this:

Jean Grey is a much better character without the Phoenix.

I think Jean Grey's personality and powers are enough to not need that annoying fiery bird.

She's so much more than just being the host of the Phoenix and do cool cosmic stuff. And X-Men: Evolution and Krakoa era really showed us how cool and lovable Jean can be without it.

I'm totally okay with the Phoenix as a plot device, but not basing Jean's entire character on it.

I want to tell how much I love the way you fraw Tsunade. She is herself but she still looks somewhat of her age and is beautiful like that!
