Alexander!
This is probably the most effort I've put into designing a character and I'm not even done with his outfit :')
The scarf might change designs and colours depending on how his outfit goes, I might also add some extra stuff to it.
Alexander is going to be one of the few side characters that don't have a blessing! He might not have a blessing, but he can still defend himself :)
His specialty is swords and knives (Also throwing weapons).
Yes, he is aromantic, but not asexual!
I spent like an hour straight drawing this
Ok edit: His name is actually Alexis now, and he's Spanish
#I don't know if it's because I've been drawing him too long but he's not hot anymore :(#He is in my heart#He is perfect#Malewife energy#Also he's a huge nerd and can speak fluent Japanese#I'm gonna give him the most complicated outfit possible trust#No surname yet (A lot of them don't have one tbh)#I kinda wanted to make him Jewish but there's like. A lot to go through for that#For one I am no good with anatomy so racial features (Is that what you call them?) are a no go#Which leaves names and maybe a badge with the star of David#But more importantly#There's also the issue of religion#And culture#I don't think I want to make him explicitly believe in god because of the setting of the story and some character's relationship with it#Also before he's Jewish he's aro and before that he's just really cool#And not going into God and his relationship with queer people#I was going to give Alex maybe a tattoo but apparently that's not allowed?#So is dyeing his hair#And if I did decide to make him Jewish I'd probably make him fluent in Hebrew also#But that brings up the fact that he's a weeb and maybe just a little bit obsessed with Japanese culture (Just anime in general tbh)#So it feels a little bit weird to make someone who's supposed to represent one culture favour another#And yes Jewish weebs probably exist but in the scope of a story and what it means for representation....#So Alex is just whatever and you can decide where he's from#Wow I info dumped a lot on this thank you for reading this far lol#sweetmountainseeds#Plagues Blessings and Journeys#Alexander#my art#art

i'm feeling controversial today so here's another hot take. and before you type away at your keyboards, know that this is all coming from a south asian.
white leftists have got to stop acting like christianity is the only religion that deserves to be criticized and you cannot touch any other religion because that'd be racist and bigoted. because as an indian who's watching my country progress towards hindu nationalism, this attitude doesn't help at all.
white people see hinduism as this exotic brown religion that's so much more progressive but don't know the violence of the caste system, how it others a large portion of the population on the basis of caste, literally branding them as "untouchables". they teach us in school that this problem is a thing of the past but the caste system is still alive and shows itself in violent ways. and that's not even covering how non hindus are treated in the country. muslims especially are being killed, have their houses bulldozed, businesses destroyed, and are being denied housing, our fucking prime minister called them infiltrators and there's this fear among hindu extremists that they'll outnumber the hindus in the country. portraying hinduism as this exotic religion does a disservice to all those oppressed by the hindutva ideology
similarly, white people see buddhism as this hippie religion that's all about peace but have no idea how extremist buddhists in myanmar have been persecuting the rohingya muslims for years and drive them out of the country.
if anything portraying these religions as exotic hippie brown religions is a type of orientalism itself.
and also y'all have got to realize that just because christianity has institutional power in america doesn't mean there aren't parts of the world where they are persecuted on the basis of religion. yes karen from florida who cries christophobia because she sees rainbow sprinkles on a cake is stupid but christian oppression DOES exist in non western countries where they're a minority. pakistani christians get lynched almost on a daily basis over blasphemy accusations. just look up the case of asia bibi, a pakistani christian woman who was sentenced to death on blasphemy charges because of something she said when she was being denied water because it was "forbidden" for a christian and a muslim to drink from the same utensil and she'd made it unclean just by touching it (which is ALSO rooted in casteism and part of pakistani christians' oppression also comes from the fact that a lot of them are dalit but that's a whole other discussion). and that's just one christian group, this isn't even going into what copts, assyrians, armenians etc have faced and continue to face. saying that christians everywhere are privileged because of american christianity actually harms christian minorites in non western countries.
and one last thing because this post is getting too long: someone being anti america doesn't automatically mean they're the good guys. too many times i've been seeing westerners on twitter dot com praise the fucking taliban just because they hate america. yes, the same taliban who banned education for women, thinks women should be imprisomed at home, and consistently oppresses religious and ethnic minorities in afghanistan. yes, america's war on afghanistan was bad and they SHOULD be called out for their war crimes there. no, the taliban are still not the good guys. BOTH of them are bad. you cannot pretend to care about muslims and brown people if you praise the taliban. because guess what? most of their victims are BROWN MUSLIM WOMEN. but of course white libs who praise them don't rub their two braincells together to make that conclusion.
this post has gotten too long and i've just been rambling so the point of this post is: white "leftists" whose politics are primarily america centric should stop acting like criticism of ideologies like hindutva, buddhist extremism, and islamic extremism BY people affected by these ideologies is the same as racism or religious intolerance because that helps literally no one except the extremist bigots. also america is not the centre of the world, just because something isn't happening in america doesn't mean it isn't happening elsewhere
#islamophobes do not fucking touch this post i swear#also talked more about india - and south asia in general - because i'm indian so i can speak on south asian issues more#this post got longer than i intended it#also didn't want to use the term islamist because that term has been primarily used by zionists and islamophobes#tagging all the countries i mentioned here#religion#india#pakistan#myanmar#afghanistan#rebecca talks

have the biggest soft spot for when ppl depict bill cipher praying and/or pleading to the axolotl cus from what we know that is literally just god. and it's so humbling too since the image that we get from bill (and the one he paints himself as) is that he's all powerful, all seeing, all knowing and to see him cower under actual GOD is just unbelievably human and degrading. bcus even the most prideful will be stripped of their ego once faced with the utter truth
#I haven't watched season 2 of gf yet so I'm SURE I'm getting smtg wrong abt his character#also don't hit me with the “he made a deal with axolotl!! he probly sees them as a means to an end!!!” bcus he got TRICKED into therapy#also there's only two ppl so far to have successfully tricked him (stanley and the axolotl) so that's actually so. don't know the words#I would also like to mention that the way that bill talks abt the axolotl in such an insulting way is the same as using gods name in vain#projecting religion issues onto fictional characs core#bill gravity falls#gravity falls bill#gravity falls#gravity falls fandom#the book of bill#the axolotl#axolotl gravity falls#tbob#me trying to be deep

don't ask me why, but me and my friend were talking about how carlos is going to be free from fraudrrari in less than 20 days and we ended up comparing him to the virgin mary (i swear it will make sense and we both grew up in christian italian families as atheists) and... how her given festivities actually add up with some of his important dates ??? buckle up!
‧˚
⭒ "Festa dell'Assunzione di Maria" — august 15 she was raised to eternal life without bodily death, and very close to it carlos announced he signed with williams.
⭒ "La Natività della Beata Vergine Maria" — she was born on september 8th, he was born on september 1st (BOTH VIRGOS)!
⭒ "L'Immacolata Concezione" — december 8th, "from the first moment of her conception, the Blessed Virgin Mary was, by the singular grace and privilege of Almighty God, and in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of Mankind, kept free from all stain of original sin."... and what happens on december 8th? his last race in fraudrrari, exactly.
she was the lightly brushed by melancholy blue print after all!
#il vaticano hates to see us drop this hits ngl#i show my hatred for this religion by blasphemingly ruining their iconographies with these posts😋#you thought you saw everything with carlos being san sebastiano NOW GET READY FOR CARLOS BEING THE VIRGIN MARY!!!!#another hit post if i know my chickens well#no but fr#what were the fucking odds of the dates being actually so similiar???#carlos sainz jr and christian iconography? sign me tf up#virgin mary#frauddrari's worst nightmare bc they're always comparing the other one to the pope and carlos gets compare to LUCIFERO#SAN SEBASTIANO#LA VERGINE MARIA#c'è chi puo' e chi non puo' 😮💨#carlos is just so mystical and lovable you can't help but compare him and worship him like a god#(he's just a man and im a 23yr old teenager with mental issues and a lot of time to think)#this being said#he also gave birth a lot this year#and he's finally about to be free of sin🥴#is this considered web weaving?#leave it to him to be so poetic in just living that my brain automatically does this#lando being god's lamb and him the virgin mary GET A BETTER DUO#maybe its because maria was always a figure that stuck with me more than anyone in the bible and her sufferings and her not having really#much of a choice in her life and having to accept her faith... idk#but this makes sense in my head#carlos sainz jr web weaving#carlos sainz jr#carlitos#cs55#f1#formula 1#carlando

Alicent and Aegon are so Virgin Mary and Jesus coded, in a sick and twisted way that it barely makes sense, but at the same time just... does.
a mother and her child born damned from the start, yet she loved him to her core, accepting her fate, accepting she would lose him and then herself.
she carried him, birthed him, raised him, loved him, devoted her very being to him... she lost him, grieved him, lost her mind in his absence. the gods her only respite, yet, when she needed them most, when she needed them to protect her son, her baby, her reason for being, where were they?
#the catholic guilt and angst is getting to me#the mommy issues I used to project on The Mother Mary are now being projected onto Alicent#Aegon and Jesus are literally the same person but also not and they parallel one another perfectly but its also an insult to say they do#two side of the same coin???#two sons damned by their fathers two mothers damned by their sons both only having each other#maybe#I don't know anymore#it just feels right in my gut#and I'm so tired and just feeling... things... and this post was born#aegon ii targaryen#aegon targaryen#alicent hightower#pro alicent hightower#pro team green#hotd#house of the dragon#tw religion#tw religious themes#tw religious imagery

You know, for a show with so many female characters that so many of us love given how they all get time in the spotlight one way or another and they fill that time up rather wonderfully since they are deeper and more developed than what we're used to seeing in general media, it is peculiar (to say the least) to see so few "alternative" ships to the main one.
I'm not saying the canon ship doesn't deserve its attention -- I'm wondering instead why the canon ship and it alone seem to guide the WN fans who just so happen to enjoy writing/reading fic or fanart or whatever.
You'd think all these cool women would inspire more ships or combinations thereof, but those of us who aren't invested in avatrice just... Float along, around one another, ignored (and, yes, mostly undisturbed too; being unpopular does have its advantages and that includes a lot less weirdos leaving you strange or awkward messages -- it does not, however, shield us from people flooding our goddamn tags on AO3 with fic that has nothing to do with our little ships and I do wish such negligence of the pairing itself meant we didn't have to deal with this spam...)
I am also not saying that fandom activity should be based solely on shipping (and recently someone on Reddit was rather confused by the fact that a lot of it is, which is quite an interesting topic to discuss in itself -- after all, there is more to fan creativity than shippy fic... Or there used to be), merely that, here, it appears that a canon relationship can outshine interest in the other, non-canon ones. It's already there and it was doubtless well-done by the show, so it's natural that it should claim people's attention, sure. It's just that being canon was never the parameter for whether people were interested in these or those two (or more) characters maybe being involved and trying to explore what that could mean through fanwork.
There has always been a complaint haunting fandom spaces concerning the minuscule amounts of f/f fic, art, discussion, w/e based on how few (interesting or sympathetic or relatable) female characters there are in media at large. So what I'm curious about is why fan creations made around WN -- a show that finally gives us a whole cast of female characters that are what we have been craving for decades -- don't also reflect its diversity.
There are alternative ships (I'm here, all happy in my tiny Doctor Superion bubble, and I know there are Camila/Lilith, Ava/Lilith, Mary/Shannon, Mary/Lilith shippers out there, so a warm hello to you if you're reading this), but go on AO3 and compare the numbers of things tagged with these proper pairings to the grand total of WN stories. Better (or worse) still, do so with the "otp: true" trick or simply by excluding avatrice from the search to see how many are left.
It's... A considerable difference. And a mystery, at least to me.
#tagging this as#warrior nun#simply because i'd like to talk about this and maybe some of you have thoughts or theories about it#i just ask you engage in good faith if you do. i'm not pointing fingers at avatrice people i think they're fine and dandy#i'm just -- to reiterate -- surprised at how little interest there is in other ships when the potential is all there#(is it because they're nuns? that never stopped avatrice so why should it stop others...)#(besides lilith is hardly still a nun after s2. bea left. mary didn't really take vows did she? you really thought i was a nun she says...)#meta fandom talk i guess#then again about the nun thing... i have noticed a lot of people just go for aus. i can't recall ever being in a fandom with SO many aus#is the religious aspect an issue by any chance? i also recall someone commenting on how little a part religion played in these aus#curious. very curious.#i imagine some of you are wondering why i care when i don't even read fic but --#-- to quote jillian salvius herself i am a curious person and well you are a curiosity lol

They say there’s no scene that humanizes Jesus more than his prayer at Gethsemane. Matthew, Mark, and Luke all reiterate the same desperate plea: “Take this cup away from me.” Luke goes even further in describing Jesus’ agony, so tangible it manifested as sweat that fell to the ground like drops of blood. It’s almost theatrical, in a way— the composed Christ inconsolable, the faithful Martyr faltering.
But I know that anguish is not ephemeral. For it festers within you, bursts out from you when you can control it no more, and ends with you. They only see the eruption. We hear about Jesus as a precocious child, questioning his earthly parents, “Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?” Does knowing his Father mean knowing his demise? Did that comprehension come later? Was he as oblivious as Issac then, asking his father on their journey, “Where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” At what point did he realize that he was the lamb that God had provided? When he learned that fate meant him to die did he realize it entailed such cruelty?
It’s perfectly reasonable if he didn’t. The sacrificial lamb is always adored. Without blemish, without broken bones, without fault. They dote upon you like a prince until they pin you to the chopping block. Your father nurturing you with a knife in one hand, saying, I love you so much that I’ll let you bleed out for God.
And you’ve internalized it. You’ll cry when you see the altar, but you’ve long ago conceded that you can’t escape doom. So you bargain to make it a little more endurable, to meet the end with a bit more poise and dignity. It’s the final resolute “May your will be done.” It’s Issac struggling in his binds until his strength is spent, taking one last glance up at Abraham to whisper, Make it hurt less.

I get hating certain political systems and trying to abolish totalitarian regimes but at the same time many of them are so interwoven with our history and society they have become tropes and when I consume media with a setting where the monarchy is absolute and revered then I am playing my part and sucking that princeling off
#litchi.txt#there are games that address this kinda stuff! and thats good! its good that there are games talking about how this is bad!#but at the same time when I go into a game knowing I will be the prince's sword and shield I dont expect the game to be anti-monarchy#despite having pretty strong opinions on many a thing I tend to put most of them away the moment I engage with media#imperialism bad. monarchy bad. doesnt mean I cant enjoy roleplaying in a game where I help these systems#because guess what its fictional and not everything needs to be a strong statement about politics#sometimes we just... wanna vibe with a setting#I am so very thoroughly exhausted from the politics in this country and where things are going I just kinda need that no brainer gameplay#even if it means working as the secret police for an emperor#even if it means replacing one dictator with another#because its still a game#a lot of people talk about imperialism-monarchy-colonialism with these things because they are a big issue even today#and they are important to talk about!! in real world!!#but I rarely see people be this upset about like religion etc which like. thats also a massive problem.#idk Im just tired of trying to look at fanart of all my fantasy medieval games and people being upset that the games#are not super anti-monarchy despite the marketing being literally 'you are the emperor's bestie. you help him out and go on a quest.'#'your quest is to manipulate local government to support the emperor and do his bidding'#like idk how That is supposed to be a game that addresses it properly#and maybe it does but ig since the MC doesnt look at the player and go REMEMBER KIDS! THIS IS EVIL AND BAD AND WHY MONARCHY SUCKS#it doesnt count??? I guess???

If you actually believe suicide is punishable by eternal damnation and that applies to Javert as well, you must invariably also apply this logic to Valjean, who starved himself to death. A passive suicide is still suicide; it doesn’t stop being so just because you prefer one character to another. To pretend like Valjean didn’t commit suicide and goes to heaven but that Javert must go to hell is just outright incorrect and biased on every level. They either both went to heaven or both went to hell, but you can’t have it two different ways.
Hey thanks for the ask /gen!
I don't believe suicide sends you to hell. I've been pretty careful to specify that *Catholic doctrine in the past* (as I'm not aware of their current position) has taught that suicide is a mortal sin (you can even see this attitude in Hamlet, in which the characters are Catholic), but I am not Catholic, nor do I believe that doctrine was ever true.
Your salvation is not gained or lost by your virtue or sin. Salvation is given by God: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, so that no man can boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Narratively, how this applies to Valjean vs. Javert is that Valjean accepts his salvation and the mercy shown to him, while Javert, because of his pride and shame (among other reasons) rejects it and instead commits suicide. Neither of them "deserved" a second chance, but both of them were offered it; Valjean took it, and Javert did not.
God will not force you into heaven, but He does make the Way (through faith in Christ) available to everyone. The tragedy of Javert is that he is unwilling to accept that God's path is not the path he thought it was, and instead of living a new life in light of this truth, he ends his life in rejection of it. And in doing so, he condemns himself, when mercy was right in front of him--as so many choose to do.
#also genuinely not sure where the idea that i prefer jvj/am biased against javert is coming from? i really like both of their characters#i don't think hugo intended javert to be redeemed by the narrative and there are many reasons for that (especially given his symbolic role)#but that doesn't mean i hate him and think he 'deserved what he got' or anything lol. he's fascinating and flawed and i love him#les miserables#javert#les mis#inspector javert#meta#my meta posts#my christianity#also yes i am definitely a christian and that comes up a lot in my discussion of les mis as it is a very christian work!#if anyone is curious about more of my views on things like how the characters understand faith i would LOVE to infodump about that#bc jvj AND javert both have a messed up version of faith/religion in their minds but i think the story does critique this#anyways all that to say esp with an ask like this that directly touches on faith/doctrinal issues i'm gonna get pretty in the weeds with it#just wanted to give a heads-up#kay is a classical literature nerd#kay has a party in the tags#responses aka the ramblings of my brain#kay can i just catch my breath for a second#and ALSO also of course there's more than just religious symbolism in javert's suicide. i'm just focusing on that angle bc of the ask

How in the fuck are you going to be anti trans and a Good Omens fan as if both the book and the show don’t explicitly establish the existence of several nonbinary characters and both Aziraphale and Crowley themselves are genderless beings
Not to mention both David and Michael’s staunch support of the LGBT (really emphasizing the T here, since you love to drop it) community as a whole, and David literally has a trans child
Part of me is even asking this in good faith because how do you see a series that is so incredibly queer and like it considering how much you shit-talk trans people on your lackluster TERF blog
There’s many reasons, actually! I’ll explain them in good faith, because I think that people who ask questions like this don’t understand the perspective of so-called “terfs” and assume we think like you do.
Firstly, I’m a feminist, so I’m used to media not aligning with my politics. I expect it, actually. Down to very simple things, like knowing I’m never going to go into a show and see a woman just existing with body hair like men do in shows all the time. But I’m comfortable and confident enough in my beliefs that I can consume media that doesn’t align with them. This extends to my feelings regarding gender. A they/them character doesn’t make my head explode, it’s just the same for me as seeing a Christian character (like Ella from Netlix’s Lucifer) or a female character who’s pro-beauty culture (like Elinor from First Kill). It’s a representation of a belief I don’t agree with and personally don’t believe in, that’s all.
Secondly, Good Omens is set in a made up universe with fantasy themes. I can easily get behind the idea that the true forms of angels and demons are genderless, because that makes sense to me in the same way God being genderless makes sense to me. This doesn’t have to carry over to me believing that humans can be genderless (I don’t believe in the concept of internal gender identity, because I don’t believe in souls. So I guess the better way to put this is that I don’t believe humans can be sexless unless we’re using gender and sex as synonyms). In the same way that it makes sense to me that angels and demons have souls that are put into bodies issued to them…but I don’t have to believe that also applies to humans. Or how it makes sense to me that Aziraphale and Crowley could survive without food, water, and sleep…but I don’t have to believe that also applies to humans. Etc. etc.
Basically, just because something is in a fantasy show, doesn’t mean I have to believe it’s real.
Thirdly, what the actors do in their own lives is none of my business. I don’t agree with supporting the TQ+ especially in relation to LGB (considering they’ve made it a primary goal to harass lesbians into pretending we can like penis, and to take every chance they get to express their hatred for homosexuality. I love to drop the T because they dropped me and my fellow homosexuals years ago). If two straight male actors want to do that, whatever. I also don’t agree with Sheen having a baby with a woman his daughter’s age, but that hasn’t stopped me from watching the show or appreciating his talent.
This all takes me back to what I said about believing you don’t truly understand the perspective of those you call “terfs”. Just because you might not be able to comprehend watching and enjoying something that doesn’t perfectly align with your worldview, doesn’t mean others feel the same. For example, many radical and rad-leaning feminists enjoyed the Barbie movie, despite it not being radical feminist. We’re capable of watching and enjoying things we don’t agree with, and of having discussions about why we don’t agree with it.
A much simpler answer to your question would be: I’ve always loved angels and demons and all things supernatural. I’ve always loved old cars. I love Queen. Religious/moral commentary and critique interest me. I love lighthearted comedies. I’m gay and starved for representation of healthy gay relationships. I love gay star-crossed lovers stories (go watch First Kill). Naturally, I’m going to love Good Omens, even if it doesn’t perfectly align with my worldview.
#asks#anon#it’s not even just the stuff regarding gender I don’t agree with!#I have a HUGE issue with the existence of Ms Sandwich and her ‘stable’ of ‘girls’#brothels are insanely inhumane and a breeding ground for human trafficking. And women are human—not property to sell#tbh I take bigger issue with that aspect than any of the gender stuff#there’s also the whole thing with God being a woman/having the voice of a woman…#…despite there being no attempt at reimagining what the world would be like had it been made by a female god instead of a male one#(example: maybe Adam would’ve come from Eve’s rib. Maybe Adam would’ve been responsible for the Original Sin)#instead Neil keeps all the patriarchal religion stuff in and pats himself on the back for casting a woman as God#what I’m trying to say is that yeah. I have disagreements with the show. so what.#it’s still a good show even if it’s not a radical feminist/rad-leaning show

The type of Christian who asks atheists how they don't like, murder people on the reg are so funny to me because they seem to think their religion makes them the Peak of Morality when statements like "if you don't believe in God how comes you don't do X thing" all but outright state they have no idea why shit like murder and rape is bad except that God doesn't like it lmao. Like way to admit you have no intrinsic sense of morality and need to be afraid of a higher power to be a decent person, but I promise if you're not a piece of shit it's actually very natural not to want to do heinous evil shit all the time potential punishment from a higher power or not 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
#winters ramblings#seriously its SO funny when that happens because every time its like ??? the FUCK kind of thoughts do you have#to ask HOW i resist doing evil shit all the time because i dont fear god because i dont believe in God??#what kind of fucked up person do you haveto be to only resist killing people because of fear of a higher power??#these are people to avoid because typically they also come with the issue of using their religion to make any action they want#perfectly Good and Moral because GOD said it its in the BIBLE whether thats true or not and like bible or no#if you have no intrinsic sense of morality i dont want to hear about atheist morality from you lmao#not that athiests lack issues i swear to god white dudes who evangelize atheism like its their new religion#have WILDLY missed the point and often suffer the same problem as the aforementioned Christians#wherein the onky thing thats ever given them any kind of pushback is the church so they decide RELIGION is horrible and bad as a whole#which isnt true religion can be a perfectly lovely amazing thing for people but that brand of atheist#doesnt seem to understand that people turned away from the church because of wide spread abuse and discrimination not because#believing in god makes you literally mentally ill like some of these fuckos act like. abelist AND shite to religious folks in one fowl swoop#so you know atheists have problems too but like they arent making laws in their beliefs images across the world so you know#temper the criticism with how influential the group actually is although richard dawkins types DID get a lot of space to spew their idiocy#like dawkims if you think youre SOOOO much smarter than christians how come you have ALL the same misogyny problems??#youre not that smart and logical if youve decided a whole kind of person is inherently less than you buddy. in fact thats very Christian#of him actually. funny when that happens but again if you dont actually know WHY something is a problem#its very easy to say Thats Bad and then literally do the exact same thing you just condemned because when YOU do it its no longer bad#because its got YOUR flavor of fucked up morality on it now instead of being like hmm maybe Christianity isnt a problem#because it EXISTS but because a lot of people use their religion as a pointed barb to discriminate against huge swaths of people#and often the intolerance becomes a legal issue when Christians and other religious majorities shove through laws based on EXCLUSIVELY their#religions and opinions and that doesnt mean religion should be dismantled it means we ahould tell religious folk who would know what#morality was if it fucked them up the ass to shut up and figure out what morality is outside of rekigion before they start legislating about#it and whatnot. also i wish extreme opinions werent ALL the news focused on exclusively on the political right#can we platform some NORMAL well adjusted christians who are god loving AND not a bunch of wingnuts#who are two steps away from arguing thou shall not kill only applies to people they LIKE because they dont seem to understand#maybe murder is bad when EVERYONE does it not just The Bad People??!?!

helio thoughts//tw religion, christianity
i know this is likely an unpopular opinion since a lot of this fandom has religious trauma, but i would kill for some redemption for helio or some positive helioic representation. it'd be just good, complex worldbuilding if it were solely fiction, but since it's so referential to christianity that ally literally says jesus instead of helio on several occasions i think they either have to really differentiate it or maybe add some complexity to the current 'all 'helioics' are bigots, your faith is evil' angle. because in fiction you can do that, but real religions aren't that simple. im not religious myself, but there have been times where i've been in really bad situations and the most welcoming, caring people are pastors. there is a good side to christianity, and in freshman year kristen wasn't a bad person. she believed in all the good things those pastors did, she helped victims of human trafficking, she fought against her family's racism even before she met her friends. her family was horrible and she was indoctrinated into a cult with the harvestmen, but her faith wasn't bad. religious trauma is not inherent to religion, it's abuse that people use religion to justify.
since s1 i have desperately wanted a good character to be introduced who worships helio like kristen did in freshman year with love and acceptance because that's who they believe helio is, and i don't want them to be proven wrong. tracker didn't give up on galicaea after kristen told her what she was like in the astral plane and worked to change her worship, and i think it would be really interesting to see someone like buddy go tracker's direction with helio instead of just rehashing kristen's character arc.
#ik the applebees like buddy so he probably sucks#but it would be such a good parallel if he was an organised version of kristen who committed to fixing helioicism#kristen did what was right for her but wouldn't it be painful to watch someone else get the storybook version of her story#because he hasn't had the same horrible experience kristen did with the harvestmen#and maybe he doesn't have so much doubt. maybe he's committed to what he believes in and will put in the work to make a difference#kristen's religion is very personal to her#but that also means it's not helping anybody but her any more#it doesn't have to#but isn't it easier to fight for the greater good than to work at fixing your own issues#isn't it a bit more appealing of a story?#dimension 20#fantasy high#fantasy high junior year#fhjy#d20#fantasy high junior year spoilers#fhjy spoilers#kristen applebees#d20 buddy dawn

#I would just like to say that I KNOW that there are scenes where Sam slices his arm but for some reason I couldn't find any#and this gifset has been in the making for about a year so I really want to finish this#I remember I was watching Yellowjackets for the first time and I was discussing it with a mutual and I realized how much these two are alik#well there's the obvious: after traumatic experiences they endure mental health issues where they hallucinate and get electro-shock therapy#but there's also how Lottie finds comofrt in faith and religion just like Sam (at least in the beginning)#Sam has his powers that he gets from the demon blood in him and Lottie has her connection to the Wilderness so they're both kind of psychic#both of them feeling so lost and angry and being terrified of themselves#Lottie's dad wanting her to be 'fixed' and Sam's dad telling Dean that if he can't save Sam then he needs to kill Sam#and finally they just both feel very queer to me#Lottie losing Nat just like Sam losing literally every woman he's ever loved#tw electrocution#tw blood#tw self harm#hallucinations tw#lottie matthews#yellowjackets#sam winchester#supernatural#spn#gifs are mine#my post

was having a conversation last night at the egg party and i gotta say it was really interesting to hear similar opinions abt religion as the ones i had as a 13 year old annoying internet atheist coming from the mouth of a woman my moms age. but also she was raised catholic and i think being exposed to catholicism would do that to me too
#actually the discussion was interesting and i largely agreed with what she said bc faith is what she had an issue with. the problem is#she equated religion and faith. which isn't accurate... there are religions (like judaism) that don't even require it at all#tick biz#also it's really funny that the easter party we attend is primarily attended by atheists and jews. We all just like painting eggs
