So f2 drivers have to pay like $5 million out of their own pocket, don't get paid, aren't promised a seat in f1 even after winning f2 and can be fired mid season. Why does my career suddenly sound more stable than theirs?

Mclaren has always, and I mean always treated their drivers like they are the least important part of a race/team. They fired Kevin Magnussen on his birthday in an email. They brought Daniel Ricciardo in and broke him because they couldn't figure out how to have a driver like him on the team and balance him with Lando.
They fired David Malukas because he couldn't drive with an injury.
And now this:
Not only did they very clearly blindside Theo Pourchaire, they had him give up his super formula seat in order to be able to driver for them. So now not only is Theo out of an Indycar seat, he has no seat anywhere. The 2023 F2 champion has no seat in any sport at all. It's insane that this is becoming an acceptable behavior.
I hope Theo is able to drive somewhere next season. There are rumors that as soon as his release was announced three teams immediately wanted his info. I have faith he will be in the seat.
DO NOT HATE ON NOLAN SIEGEL. This is not an invitation to do so. He seems like a nice guy. The pay-driver thing is going to be a reality of it all about him, but my big concern is that he has not even tested the Mclaren yet. I hate when a team makes a move based on info from other teams, even when their owner/manager is shared.
I would also like to point out that this decision is in the hands of Zak Brown. He runs Mclaren, both in Indy and F1. If he can do it in Indy, like he already has to David Malukas and now Theo, he could do it to his academy drivers and F1 drivers, like he did to Daniel Ricciardo. I would like to point out, actually, that he's still doing it right now with Oscar. Oscar has had considerable pace these last few races, even better than Lando on occasion, but they have consistently sacrificed him anyway. Oscar has the benefit of being fantastic and also having Mark Webber as his manager. I wouldn't be surprised if Red Bull or Aston Martin offer him a contract in the future. But for drivers who aren't as lucky as Oscar Piastri? It's a problem. Zak Brown has spent countless interview hours ripping into Red Bull's toxic driver environment. Newsflash, at least Red Bull doesn't pretend. At least every driver coming in knows they have a benchmark that is Max. The benchmark for Mclaren is money.

Daniel Ricciardo on Ollie Bearman’s performance (Thursday Press Conference, Australian GP 2024)
I think there’s you know…probably the way I view it as well, When there’s only twenty of us on the grid, there is obviously a lot more talent than just those twenty. So that’s where you see, someone like Ollie who obviously has a lot of talent, and yeah he had that opportunity to show it and he did really well. I think it just speaks to how tight the sport is and why yes there is things and pressure to perform cause there is always going to be someone who is coming through the ranks. Ollie did great, everyone recognized that.
This is frustrating to me. These drivers KNOW there is talent waiting to replace them. They see them staring from the wings. Felipe Drugovich, Theo Pouruchaire, Jack Doohan and of course, Liam Lawson. These guys have all had the opportunity to “show it” off to the rest of the grid, both drivers and teams, Liam more so than any. But no one is watching! They’re caught up in their own drivers and shafting the talent that is coming down the line.
And i see a lot of people complaining that Ollie is overhyped…good! If we keep talking about him, if we keep talking about what he did, and what Liam did, and what Jack Theo and Felipe could do, then eventually, these guys are going to get it through their heads that this younger generation is STARVING no one is giving them the chance they are owed.
Daniel KNOWS that Liam is breathing down his neck, Esteban and Kevin are both well aware of Ollie and Jack’s ability kick them out of a job. But they’re not worried. They know the path they went down it themselves. and as long as they perform halfway decent, then they’re going to keep their seats cause they’d rather halfway decent car then risking it all on a rookie.
Hell Oscar had to wait two years to get a seat, and it wasn’t even for the team he was originally supposed to drive for! Alpine tried everything to not use him then fumbled the ball! And you see how well he’s doing!
It’s soo frustrating! This sport! it needs to adapt to allow this younger talent in and make it more accessible

it's so weird that we're in a situation where the past two F2 champions have gotten nowhere near a formula 1 seat and the current championship leader and most consistent driver is in talks with no one about a seat...yet the drivers in P9 and P14 in the championship are almost guaranteed on the grid at this point.
and yes, the standings don't reflect everything...but it's still wild.

if i had a nickel for every time that a driver in the 2024 season was controversially swapped out for another driver that people do not think are ready to race in the series, i’d have two nickels. which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it’s happened twice in two different racing series…..
