Cine: The Miseducation of Cameron Post (2018)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

“But I was hoping, just a little, for a single shared moment, maybe in the GOP vestibule, or maybe the coffee hall, a moment when we would be close to each other, just a few feet between us, a moment when we would be looking at each other, face-to-face. I wanted the moment, but if I got it, I hadn’t decided what to say. Something brief. Something memorable. It was hard to whittle away all the buildup between us to get to one solid something worth saying. But there was something to be said, I was sure, and I thought about what that something might be for most of the car ride.”
- Emily Danforth, “The Miseducation of Cameron Post”

The Miseducation of Cameron Post (2018)
Tumblr media
A nostalgic journey filled with emotion and sympathy, The Miseducation of Cameron Post shows a side of the LGBT coming out experience not nearly talked about enough. Gay conversion therapy was common in the history of homosexuality and the underepresentation of it in film doesn’t come near to showing it as much of a threat as it was. Seeing the dark side of being gay hit me hard. As a bisexual young woman, it got to me seeing how religion was once and still can be harming if not taken with a grain of salt.
The film follows the story of Cameron, played by Chlöe Grace Moretz, as she gets sent to a Christian gay conversion school after being caught having sex with her best friend Coley in a car at Homecoming. We see how the people around her treat this discovery from complete disassociation to disgust and exiling her to a place that she says is “emotional abuse”.
The acting in this film from Moretz, Sasha Lane as Jane Fonda (no really, thats the name of her character) and Forrest Goodluck as Adam are all extremely memorable, the trio find faith and safety in each other. After the intense narrative of the film, discussing mental health, the stigma surrounding sexuality in the 90s and religion, seeing the strength of the friendship between the friends give you a warm feeling inside, knowing that even in the darkest of times there can be a saving grace.

I read THE MISEDUCATION OF CAMERON POST a while back and didn’t like it (I’m from a small conservative town and was scandalized by the lesbians sjsjsjsjjaka) and I just watched the movie and reread the book and they are both terrific and a punch to the gut and yes excellent but.........Cameron Post is *very clearly* a LESBIAN she never identifies as “q*eer” and so I’d like to request y’all stop calling her “q*eer” and stop calling the source material “q*eer” it’s a LESBIAN film and a LESBIAN novel about a LESBIAN

Watched The Miseducation of Cameron Post a few days ago and was not disappointed. I'm happy with what they took from the book. Focusing on the last third or so of the book was a good idea in my opinion because they wouldn't have been able to fit everything into one movie without the pacing being off. Cameron's struggle was really well portrayed by Chloe Grace Moretz. If you don't know what this film is about: Taking place in 1993, Cameron lives in a highly religious town and her aunt finds out that she's having 'same sex attractions.' Cameron is sent to God's Promise, a conversation camp to help her on the right path and away from the temptations of evil. -That's not what I think, it's just the way other characters see homosexuality: a sin. It's a heavy movie, as well as the book is. And trigger warning for self-harm. I'm not sure if 'self-harm' is quite the correct way of labeling it, but I'm avoiding spoilers. OH, also super glad they left Cameron and Jane as friends instead of trying to make them a couple or one of them have a crush on the other. Another film this year, “The Miseducation of Cameron Post,” directed by Desiree Akhavan and based on a young-adult novel by Emily Danforth, starred Chloe Grace Moretz as the rebellious teen dispatched to “pray the gay away.” This movie also exposed the insidiousness of conversion programs but with more originality and humor, which gave the movie a contemporary, charged feel. Part of the reason was that it was told from the viewpoint of teenager Cameron, who bonds with other outcasts in the group and cleverly figures out ways to deal with their trapped-in-the-snake-pit situation.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post is a movie I’m very excited about. Set in the 90s, it’s about a girl who gets sent to a gay conversion therapy centre. It tackles very real and tough issues, and stars an incredibly talented and diverse cast. Did you know that 700,000 people have been through conversion therapy in the US? This horrible and harmful practice still happens today, and I’m grateful to this movie (and the book!) for shedding light on it. The world needs to know that it still happens and it needs to end. Follow @bornperfectcampaign to help. The Miseducation of Cameron Post is in select New York theatres now and releases in other cities over the US on Friday. Head to @campostfilm for release dates and screening times. GO SUPPORT THIS QUEER, INCLUSIVE, IMPORTANT MOVIE so we can get more just like it!! @chloegmoretz @sashablane @forrestgoodluck @emdanforth @glaad #CamPostFilm #themiseducationofcameronpost #miseducationofcameronpost #bornperfect #endconversiontherapy #instagay #chloegmoretz #chloegracemoretz #sashablane #forrestgoodluck #emilydanforth #conversiontherapy #LGBTpride #queer #LGBT #lesbian #gay #artofinstagram #instaart #instaartist #fanart #glaad
