Cal'Shandarr fact of the day: . To the southeast corner of the Mid-Lands is an island called Dargon. Hundreds of years ago, possibly thousands, the ecology of this island was somehow thrown off. The majority of the island is a barren wasteland of sand and rocks. It is home to hundreds of growth stunted dragons that get no bigger than a large dog or small horse. The larger variety of dragons are nothing but folklore to the people of Cal'Shandarr. Somewhere on Dargon is the fabled stronghold Rish Tell. Three massive joined towers that rise up the side of a sandstone canyon and a hundred feet into the sky. It is now overrun with a horde of growth stunted dragons. . . . . Cal’Shandarr fact of the day: . Azar is a moderately large island to the North-East edge of the Mid-Lands. The human population can be found mostly along the coast. The interior of the island is mostly dense jungle and is rumor to be inhabited by a primitive humanoid race called the Eeliphtee who are very territorial if not intelligent on the level of humans or Dwellvin. The island has several distinguishing features. There are the tremendous water falls that circled a huge bay to the south. The series of wide one hundred foot tall waterfalls encompassing the bay in a horseshoe shape. At the top and center of the falls was the legendary last hold of Azar perched on a massive rock outcropping in the middle of the raging falls overlooking the mist shrouded bay. If you were to travel to the North-West of Azar you could find a massive active volcano. A century ago it had risen quickly and unexpectantly from the earth and had buried the fabled city of Ismonla in molten stone. (19 Kunnells) Cal’Shandarr fact of the day: . Most cities in the Mid-Lands, and possibly beyond, use a type of sewer system called kunnells that serve several different purposes. The kunnells are the network of catacombs, burial chambers, trash heaps, and sewers that run all over under a city. Most empty into the ocean, or large rivers. It’s a good way for cities to bury their dead, get rid of refuse, and in some cases they are used as storage. Sweepers keep the streets clean by sweeping garbage into grated holes in the streets that drop into the kunnells. They do however create a couple different problems for most cities, an incessant rodent problem, and criminal activity. Thieves, vagabonds, and the like tend to hide out in the kunnells. . . . . (42b Arowana) Cal’Shandarr fact of the day: . Arowana are known to jump out of the water to snatch flying prey out of the air or prey on low hanging branches. River species often can jump up to six feet out of the water vs the much larger oceanic species ability to jump onto or over the deck of a ship. Oceanic Arowana love to hunt around newly formed freshwater reefs. They eat the giant insects that create them. The Arowana and the Namazu have an adverse relationship with one another. When the Arowana are young they tend to school together and the Namazu target these schools and can swallow thousands of Arowana fry in one pass. BUT the adult Arowana are solitary and hunt Namazu. Using their bony head to ram into the soft flesh of the Namazu until its dead and can be consumed piece by piece. Arowana come in brilliant metallic colors some of which being red, blue, and green. (37b Wet Season) Cal’Shandarr fact of the day: . Continued from part 1: https://www.facebook.com/thedayspringepic/posts/1764901200450721 . The dry season is slightly longer than the wet but truthfully isn’t really dry. There is usually several quick soaking downpours each day but they are not usually accompanied by the high winds, and occasional hail that are usual during the wet season. Also during the wet season it rains fairly frequently throughout the day and the ocean is a far more dangerous place with huge waves, and water spouts whereas the dry season leaves the ocean much more placid. The land is left greatly affected in the low lands around the rivers. Huge areas of jungle are left submerged for weeks, sometimes Moons during the wet seasons. People in those areas have adapted to life on the river by building their homes on stilts or simply making their homes in the tree tops. Life near the river during the wet season can be extremely dangerous, the rivers in the Mid-Lands are a powerful force of nature that can sweep away acres of jungle and move massive boulders. A Glance Back: May 22, 2016 . Just finished some interesting additions to a chapter in the book that showcases a major city in Cal'Shandarr. Dagrun.
