Sam Mewis has really shaken up WOSO journalism.

Typically a retirement announcement from a player like Alyssa Naeher would be done via a tweet and pay-walled interview with one of several "journalists" in soccer. But now, with Sam and The Women's Game, players can go right to the fans and avoid pretentious, self important writers.

Honestly, many writers are good writers who do their jobs with heart and expertise. But go listen to Emma Hayes's press conferences this week. She's talking with serious journalists with serious questions. Not a one of them would ask Emily Sonnett about her goal ironically coming in her 69th cap with the US [wink, wink]. Don't pretend to be serious and expect to be taken seriously when you don't approach your job with professionalism.
