I always did like the Amnesiac Villain trope. Where the Heroes find one of their villains after a battle, and see the villain is not only alive, but is actually being a really good person. They learn that the villain has no memories of their past and is just a genuinely nice and kind individual. Now the fun comes in when the heroes have to debate if this is real or a rouse.

I think the trope works best when it is genuine, but the villain slowly starts remembering, but instead of accepting it is HORRIFIED by it. They dont want to become the monster they once were.

I dont know if its been done, but I think the trope would be perfect if during an attack from a new villain, one where the heroes are struggling, the amnesiac villain must then remember everything and actually joins in to save the day. But instead of people accepting the villain, they all become scared. They want the villain to leave, they see the villain as a monster. And that tragedy, that anger, snaps them back into villainy.

I'll have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

The idea of Monokuma's entrance ceremony being the twisted version of Jin Kirigiri's entrance ceremony on the first day of lockdown is terrifying!

All this talk about the students being the 'hope of the world', protecting that 'splendid hope, living a 'communal life together solely within the confines of this school' until the day they die, assuring that they won't 'lack for all common conveniences', and finally, that they won't have to worry about the 'land beyond the walls' because they're 'completely cut off from the outside world'.

All these words coming out of Monokuma's vile mouth... could have also come from Jin, the original headmaster.

Much more terrifying is the massive difference between the students' reactions in both cases!

They became skeptical and very afraid, actively questioning Monokuma because, indeed, the very idea of living in this school forever is ridiculous (and they lost their memories of the reason why)! On the other hand, when Jin broke this news, as seen from the recordings, they had accepted it completely, without any questions.

They accepted cutting off completely from the outside world. They accepted cutting off their friends and family. They accepted the possible reality of living in this school until they die. They accepted it all. They accepted it enough to cover the metal plates and barricade the doors with their own hands.

Because there had no other choice! The Tragedy was ongoing.

Can you imagine how much of a dire straits it was all of them to accept their situation so submissively? For Mondo to leave behind the 'manly' promises he made in the outside world? For Sayaka to abandon her group mates? For Makoto to abandon his family? For Byakuya freaking Togami to abandon his family and legacy?

And I assume Jin must have taken extreme protective measures during the lockdown. Who knows, maybe he's the one behind the surveillance cameras (which Junko then hacked for broadcasting)? Maybe he disabled service so the students can't access the outside world and contact their relatives, so they won't feel the desire to go home?

'I'm sorry, I know this is very difficult. But on the slightest chance that the world goes back to normal, you must bear through all this. You're our last chance of hope, after all.'
