- would probably die the first time he smoked pot, no matter what he smoked it from he will most likely pass out and not wake up for a good few hours

- cannot figure out a pipe like at all he just can't seem to hold it the right way or how long he's supposed to hold his thumb and then inhale he just cannot do it

- his favorite method is probably a bong like power, the bigger the better for him, he probably threw up the first time though from accidentally hitting it too hard 💀

- denji is okay with joints or blunts, but if you ask him to light it he will say he's worried of burning his face off with a lighter that close (fair tbh) so you always have to do it unfortunately

- he is probably clingy when he's high like reze, except he just lays his whole body on top of you, mumbling out incoherent sentences you can't even understand which is mainly just him saying how he loves you

- denji also gets more jealous easily when he's high, if he sees anyone looking at you in the slightest way he will tell them to back off even if they aren't interested in you at all because he can't differentiate the two when he's high

- denji probably got SUPER paranoid the first time he smoked, thinking there was devils when it was just power or just overthinking everything possible

power -

- do not ask this woman to grind down the weed, the one and only time you asked she poured all the buds on the tray and just...smashed them with her hands instead of using the grinder, needless to say she wasn't allowed to smoke with you for two weeks

- power is already a menace, but when she's high it's even worse, she will try to fight everyone no matter the reason, and she yells a lot more, it's a surprise you don't have hearing loss yet with how she screams every word she speaks

- if you were to hand her a blunt with a flavored wrap she would probably hit it once and then just eat the whole thing and then throw up because she literally ate the entire blunt 😐

- power probably smokes a lot after she realizes the effects it has on people, though she's also a scavenger like denji she does nothing to help not even cleaning the bong water for you 😒

aki -

- aki already smokes cigarettes, so he's familiar with the concept of smoking, but smoking pot is a completely different way of smoking than cigarettes to him

- he most likely started out with a joint or blunt, seeing as it's the closest he can get to a cigarette without actual tobacco

- aki probably likes flavored wraps better then cones because he likes having a taste rather than straight weed flavor

- he hates bongs, hates them because he can never seem to take a small hit off one and his head always hurts super bad after taking one hit because he can't control it 😭

- aki is probably okay with pipes, probably the sherlock ones though and nothing with a design on it like a marvel logo or some shit, just a small one that has no design is good for him

- when aki is high he is way more chill and calm when it comes to denji and power and is definitely more comfortable with you, even going as far as leaving little marks on your neck to express he wants something but won't actually say it

- aki also does become more emotional when he's high, he doesn't know or understand why it just happens, he will tear up at certain affectionate actions or when watching a movie and he gets really embarrassed after

- he already smokes cigarettes a lot, so this would be no different pretty much, he probably has one of those cool cases that holds two joints in one that he carries around or mixes them with his cigarettes in the box

makima -

- a blunt girlie there is no doubt about it, she loves all the flavors you can get and actually has a few favorites she really enjoys

- will pay for all of the supplies whenever you need more or just want something new, don't bother trying to pay she will do it anyways

- makima knows how to do o's with the smoke even if it's harder she does it perfectly like 😵‍💫

- on occasion she will use a pipe, though, but she despises bongs and any other method, mainly because bong water gets nasty fast and she doesn't want to bother cleaning it all the time (same ngl)

- everything is super organized and looks like every little thing has it's own place on the tray, she doesn't like when the tray gets a bunch of useless shit on it like stems and roaches from joints she will literally clean the whole thing just to make it look pretty again

- makima does enjoy a edible every once in a while when she's traveling and can't smoke, she usually gets gummies because they hit her faster than normal edibles made by someone else

- she has a roach clip thats probably like iridescent or multicolored or some shit because she likes using that than possibly burning her fingers

- makima doesn't smoke a whole lot, mostly just on her days off and after work but never before work or a business event of some sort, even though she doesn't change much when she is high

reze -

- when i say reze is clingy as hell when she's high i mean literally so fucking clingy 😭 she will be attached to you the whole time, playing with your fingers completely zoning out of everything else

- she probably has a cute little jar she stores the weed in with hearts on it or some shit and her tray is probably some sort of purple galaxy with a lid to cover the contents

- she will smoke out of anything, she doesn't really have a preference she likes all methods of smoking really but she leans towards pipes

- reze is also 10x more emotional when she's high, she could see a puppy on a tv show and would start sobbing uncontrollably leaving you a confused mess trying to help her feel better

- like denji, when she is high enough she will just lay on top of you while hugging you tightly, playing with your hair while ranting about how much she loves you

- she most likely has a collection of custom lighters in a drawer in the bedroom, she specifically likes the old school zipper lighters, probably with cool designs on them like butterflies or something

- reze probably makes really good edibles idk she's the one most likely to know how to bake in my opinion so if you buy the supplies she will make some and it's usually cake so she can decorate it and make it look pretty

- she probably smokes the most out of everyone excluding aki like on a daily she would be high constantly if it weren't for her job, her off days are spent laying in bed smoking and sleeping the whole time which she gets far more cuddly than normal on those days

quick csm part 2 ramble ((i may have made this account just to post stuff like this));

i adore all the setup we've been getting in part 2 so far. it is a LOT and its great for weirdos like me to theorize (?) about what fjmt may do with all of this.

anyway. with all that we've seen so far (chapter 120) i believe i have some idea of what will happen in the future.

first of all. denji and asa are (i think) perfect parallels of each other that work flawlessly as a duo/pair. both of them being broken and traumatized teens that have been wronged by society in some way or another, and how differently they have approached their lives in response to that.

denji being a kid who's only really known love and care for a year or so, having lived ~16 years being abused by adults, and only truly experiencing what it is to love and be loved for a year. how his life became what he always wanted and so he became somewhat "selfish", getting to do everything he ever wanted (eat good food, sleep well, go out on dates) and all of it with a true family that loved and accepted him (power and aki), while his motivations were mostly to impress a woman who merely manipulated him and used him, as he felt the love one has for a mother for the first time with makima and she took advantage of that.

while being selfish, making friends and having the time of his life-- he ended up losing everything. his apartment, his family, reze, etc; all of it as makima's game. ultimately, his love for her was the answer to defeat her, and now he lives a life with nayuta; a kid who, if not for kishibe and denji himself, would spend her childhood just like denji did, being used by men with power and turning into another makima.

that's why he now cares so much about nayuta and what she wants. he wants to give his all so that she may be happy, he wants to stop being selfish and give to others what people like aki gave to him. he's learning how to be selfless, even if not in the best methods.

in the other hand, asa always had her parents with her until recently. she *was* loved by them, and even though she was awkward in school, she could manage! until they both died, her mom passing ""because"" of her own fault. since then, we can guess and see how asa's life went downhill, as she lost the people that most cared about her, and was left alone in the world. everything was shittier and shittier, until the moment she fucking died. she died without truly living life, and so, when she was "reborn", she decided she would live life more selfishly. take the chance to make her own life right and stop it from being the painful and guilty bore it always was, even with yoru in the way to fuck her up even more.

what im trying to get to is;

i believe csm part 2 is going to be about balance. both denji and asa have a goal, consciously or subconsciously, of living for themselves (asa) or for others (denji). i believe the path of only choosing to go for one of the two is ultimately harmful, leaving asa more and more alone and paranoid and denji turning into a bad guardian for nayuta, giving her everything she ever wants and worsening her perspective on denji and her own powers and how to use them, making her a potential threat for others as she won't hesitate to use her control for her own gain (wiping someone's mind or turning them into a damn dog is too much!!)

i believe that once they both realize the problems in their ways, theyll slowly learn from one another as they endure through shit together. asa will slowly pick up more selflessness and care for others, and denji will re-learn to be more selfish in a moderate way that isn't harmful, probably turning more and more like aki (😣). and so, they will achieve a balance where they can finally care about others AND themselves without harm coming to anyone in the process.

im REALLY excited to see how everything goes down in part 2, and how much they change as characters for the future of csm. fuji please dont kill them

okay nerd moment, i really love food being emphasized a lot in chainsaw man.

in the countryside and living in poverty, denji and pochita get by on plain bread. once denji moves to the city, he invents his lil supreme toast, which is a representation of him feeling like city life is a new luxury and it's fun. his excitement with food dies down a bit, but he still really likes it!

him getting food with the other devil hunters and makima, and then getting food with power and aki and himeno. aki cutting apple slices for denji, and denji leaving an apple for aki. the episode 12 ED ending with the trio having a nice big meal.

denji getting food at the place reze works, him cooking and eating makima out of love, him finding something for asa to eat while stuck in the aquarium.

food represents not only a luxury and a new life, but also sharing love. denji wasn't close with anyone other than pochita out in the countryside, and they didn't have much food but they got by. in the city, he meets people he grows to love and they share meals together and spend time together in the safety of restaurants and his new home with aki and power.

ueueueue its such a nice detail, im glad some of the endings keep a bit of an emphasis on food like ED 7 and 10 and 12 (although in very different contexts)

The Most Effective Weapon Hybrids in Chainsaw Man

Tbh I’ve been looking around different social medias and seen so many people lambast the later introduced Hybrid Weapons for ‘ all of them being weaker’ than the ones we do see in the series.

And like that’s nowhere true? Did anyone read the final fight properly? Especially taking into account the part where they were all brainwashed and by extension, used as living bludgeoning weapons rather than as actual combatants with sapitence??

This made a massive impact on their actual combative abilities as the biggest thing we’ve seen across the series before the final arc is not the strength but the cunning and skill behind using their abilities. 

And if we’re going off that Katana Man - as he should deservedly be ranked - is the most pathetic of them all. He has one strategym, one devastating attack - a type of Speed Blitz that can move quicker than Denji-Chainsaw can perceive, but in his rematch with Denji? He loses very convincingly and he loses twice against Pochita - one of said times he even used said Speed Blitz move and Pochita was just too fast and powerful for it to even work. 

And while he wields the powerful Katana Devil, he has nowhere near the intelligence or weapon skill necessary to be able to fight properly. It’s very telling since most of his attacks are strong area-sweeping strikes (essentially flailing but lazier) and his Speed Blitz, rather than precise powerful attacks and defensive blocking. 

Hell, even Denji starts off with super poor technique. His entire ‘strategy’ is just to slash, slash, slash, get back up, and keep slashing. The only reason he doesn’t die is because he got trained into the ground by Kishibe later on to make sure that this wouldn’t happen again. He lost to the Leech Devil, he was severed in half in his first fight with Katana Man of all people, he was repeatedly overpowered in his fight with the far more experienced Reze and only saved by outside intervention, he was cursed by Tolka and when he returned from Hell he was blindsided by Quanxi calling off their truce, and he ultimately didn’t fight Makima’s forces directly - Pochita did. Denji’s strength is his wit from living as a survivor up to the start of the series as well as gaining the strength of the arguably most combat effective Devil in existence. What really matters about ‘most powerful’ should be experience with their powers; both Denji and Katana have had theirs for only a very short amount of time - Denji got his before Katana, or at the very least, just before Samurai Sword swore revenge as we don’t get an exact date for when Sawatari fused him with Katana Devil (Samurai seems short-tempered enough to make a rash contract without any questions). Neither of these dudes are particularly as effective as their weapon devils themselves should be.

Reze and Quanxi are definitely more experienced; Reze was literally raised to be the Bomb Hybrid as part of a Russia ‘Backrooms’ operation with child soldiers and repeatedly demonstrated extremely quick transformations, devastating blast attacks, and was even the character to introduce the concept of a Hybrid auto piloting a second body or the concept of ‘splitting yourself’ (her headless body autonomously dodges an attack, hugs and detonates one of the Public Safety men (someone who could summon Kon’s Paw) after Beam drags himself and Denji to the HQ, meanwhile said original Reze body threw her decapitated head that transformed into Bomb and continued her assault without issue). Even though Denji later proves that this isn’t a wholly unique ability to Bomb specifically, this ability to separate yourself and launch surprise attacks with such devastating results is an extremely dangerous and effective part of the Bomb Devil’s arsenal. Quanxi’s experience is generally even greater; she has been known as the First Devil Hunter, meaning she’s likely the oldest Hybrid and Devil Hunter to ever exist (giving her at least a hundred years of experience battling all kinds of Devils), is fast enough to not just weave between a sea of Human-Dolls but caused a delayed slashing attack that bisects most of her victims and kills them before they even realize she’s there. And her weapon devil form’s introduction shows how deadly the Crossbow Devil should be - multi-firing targets with extreme precision and powerful arrows, almost destroying Santa Devil several times (only not succeeding due to Santa having an insane healing factor at the time). It’s harrowingly telling that the only reason she even fails at all is because Makima - one of the Horseman of the Apocalypse and the Control Devil at that - appears and Quanxi has to let her guard down in an attempt to reason with her.

Now the other Weapon Hybrids. 

Arguments I’ve seen is that they’re worse because they, in their fights with Chainsaw, don’t demonstrate a healing factor that Chainsaw and Bomb do. This is very likely incorrect as during both battles the only strategy Makima has their brainwashed selves use is essentially a zerg rush, but the actual refutal of them not having a good one shouldn’t come from their weapon devils, but rather their lack of mental autonomy and sapient thought. Brainwashed! Reze is the glaring example of this as her real self was capable of quickly destroying and regenerating her body with ease, being incredibly creative with her powers, and having human intelligence and planning, but her brainwashed self clearly doesn’t possess the mental autonomy to use self-revival in the first fight or second one, and she has to be revived by Makima (off-screen) after the first fight. The brainwashed weapons are not actual people; they’re Weapons in every sense of the word by the time Makima has her powers sunk into them, but we can glean how effective they’d likely be from other factors.

One of those factors would be their individual performances in battle despite having their reduced faculties. Let’s use the first battle as an example:

In the first battle (the one with Pochita in full-power) the order of which the Weapons die is the following: Quanxi, Longsword (absolutely brutalised in an instant through several buildings and simultaneously killed by Pochita), Katana (who fails his signature attack and is killed by Pochita) , Bomb (who attempts to make Pochita airborn before being diced to pieces), and then a restrained Spear, Flamethrower, and Whip (who all assisted in a combination attack with Makima that, oh I don’t know, launched Pochita into outter space) are killed simultaneously in a multiple person slash attack from Pochita (Flamethrower forces out Pochita from the building he killed Longsword/Quanxi in in a blazing eruption; Whip assaults and distracts him for Bomb to take Pochita into the sky, and Spear Man’s attack not only punctures the previously inpenetrable Pochita’s skin but also launches him further.

In the second battle pretty much all of the weapons perform poorly; Katana and Longsword don’t even get to harm Pochita as they’re killed immediately after destroying the rock Pochita threw, Whip and Bomb are simultaneously slashed with wound severe enough they couldn’t continue fighting, Spear Man dies at the same time as Whip and Bomb but only after ramming one of his spears through the depowered Pochita at the same time, Flamethrower unfortunately fails to burn Pochita. Crossbow actually does better this time as she manages to puncture several holes in Pochita as she's decapitated.

In short the other Hybrids have not been given the same exposure that Bomb, Quanxi and Katana were. Not only that but Whip, Longsword, Flamethrower, and Spear were introduced brainwashed like the others, though it may seem Flamethrower shows hints of greater autonomy as he's the only one to speak full sentences while in his transformed state as he observes that Pochita has weakened. Spear Man is seemingly dismissed as the less cool or powerful most of the time, yet he landed two arguably decisive blows that were infinitely more effective than anything the others did.

I'm thinking about discussing the relationship between Spear and Flamethrower as they were actually introduced as the background characters that helped Makima find Denji (Post Zombie Massacre) at the very beginning of the series; Spear is the glasses man, Flamethrower seems to be hunched over and wearing a hat but it would make sense for him to be there if Spear and Makima were. Especially if Makima needed definitive backup that would unquestionably follow her orders in battle.

While ultimately Denji is a strong fighter and greatly improved by Part 2, the most effective user of the power is Pochita and by extension 'Weapon Devil' - if he can even fit under that category due his abnormalities amongst demonkind. The most effective Hybrid however would absolutely be Bomb and Crossbow, but only lucidly and you cannot discount the effectiveness that Spear, Flamethrower, and to some extent Whip had even while brainwashed. On top of that we don't even know their fighting styles in their lucid states so an accurate judgement cannot be considered as of the appearances we've seen but I hope this post has at least made some sense.

I might do a follow up speculation about the circumstances behind their becoming hybrids, how they act, and where they originated.

I've never understood why people genuinely like Makima. Sure, you can like a character or whatever but she is so unlikable for me.

For 1, doesn't she like groom denji into becoming a devil hunter? It may not be obvious but in a way she does groom him into joining the agency. Not only has she groomed him but you gotta realize, she did it flawlessly she must have experience + the entire fact she's heavily respected by the young male members of the agency. I'm not sure what his name is but he is like the top person for division 4, yeah he is into quanxi not makima but not only is Denji openly into her but so is Aki. He just doesn't stand out that much in terms of liking her. Himeno also confirms he has a crush on Makima.

Continuing on with that, I find it kinda interesting how it's only the young males who are into Makima. None of the females seem to have a crush on her or heavily respect her the way Denji and Aki do. Power quite literally fears Makima. She also talks down on her. It took Denji about 4 deaths of his close friends to realize how Makima was using him just to get the chainsaw devils heart. Even then, 3 of those deaths were directly under her fault. Reze was struck last by angel devil yes but Makima initiated the fight. Makima is the control devil after all. Not only Reze but Aki. (I'm still not over his death man)

I feel like Aki is a whole another level of VICTIM and it just isn't talked about. He literally resigns I'm pretty sure it's the entire division 4 out of the gun devil hunt because he doesn't want to cause harm to power and Denji. Makima then ends up saying Power and Denji will fight the gun devil even if division 4 isn't apart of it and that if he still wants to stay out of it, he needs to leave. He ends up being manipulated back into the plan because he doesn't want the 2 of them to die. Then, Makima again ends up controlling him at the time of his death. Yes, I'm positive he dies by the gun devil but yet again, Makima was behind it.

She (makima) literally is the embodiment of evil and control which, yes that's her entire character and what she was created for but it just isn't appealing to me. It could be because she is a groomer or because she is behind not only Aki's death but Reze and powers. Also angel devils death. Her entire purpose (to me and in my eyes) was that she was on the search for the chainsaw man's heart, which she confirms how she feels jealous Denji made a contract but not her. She says something along the lines of, "Why was it you. Why did he chose you out of all people." which to me, is signaling how she is heavily jealous and just played the cute little innocent role. I'm not completely sure if she says it or if anyone else does but when she found out Denji made a contract with the chainsaw devil, she lifted his shitty life up to absolutely crush it so he would be more vulnerable. Purposely assigned Aki with Denji and Power just to be behind Aki's death and to kill power. All while she was manipulating Denji into believing she was trying to protect him. I believe the whole, assassains from all over the world are coming for denjis chainsaw man heart arc really sold it to Denji. Like, that entire arc probably was perfectly used to Makima's advantage. She 'protected' Denji from all evil. Creating literal protection teams for some dude she could've killed the first second she saw him. I still don't know why she didn't kill him off the bat but she probably explains that at the beginning.

At the end of the day, I will always hate Makima. I will also not listen to people who enjoyed her character. It may sound stupid and silly but like, her entire character is just shitty to me.

Hey there. I just read your fic of Denji and I totally love it! So I was thinking about a fluff with a little but of comfort of Denji x Reader. Reader really loves to play with Pochita but she asks Denji how did him and Pochita met each other and he feels bad about the things he's been through his life and she comforts him with a hug and kisses. One thing he has accomplished in a part of his dreams is her.

Warnings: this takes place after the events of the manga so beware because there are lots of spoilers!

It was a day like any other, the weather was pleasant, not too cold not too warm. Perfect for playing outside with Pochita, the chainsaw devil.

You two got along pretty well since you and Denji have become close. Pochita was happy that Denji had finally found someone that cares about him and, well…he does realize that Denji is falling in love, but is surprised he hasn’t just blurt it out yet like he would normally do.

The little devil loved your gentle pats on his head and the belly rubs, you really grew attached to him as if he was your childhood pet.

You also grew really fond on Denji, feelings that were more than just friendship starting to bloom inside of you.

Denji brought some drinks outside after bringing Nayuta to her room so she could sleep. He smiled to himself at the sight of you playing with his friend. A day like today felt so peaceful to him. All of the things he had gone through now seemed like just a bad dream.

You don’t know a lot about Denji, apart from the fact that he is the now famous chainsaw man and is also taking care of a little girl.

“I’ll tell you all about it someday” he said after you saw him on your way home from school, he was all covered in blood from dealing with a devil.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to tell you his story, it’s just that whenever you would come over to his house, you two got caught up in doing homework (you having to help him out a lot) and then playing games until night time.

But today was a day off, you thought. Maybe it was a good time to finally talk about it. How did he meet Pochita? How come he made a contract with a devil? Is that little girl the only family he has? These were some of the questions you decided to ask him.

Denji seemed hesitant for a moment. In a way he didn’t want to start talking about all those awful things that happened this past year. So much blood, so many deaths from loved ones…

He started to talk about his early years, the struggles he went through, scavenging for small pieces of food in the trash. All alone until he met the chainsaw devil that would later save his live.

He told you how he joined the devil hunter organisation, the crazy people he met there. He told you about Aki and Power, he told you about his first love Makima and Reze-

The way Denji was telling you this made your heart ache a bit. His voice didn’t sound sad, it sounded like he was telling someone else’s story. You two would occasionally share a laugh at some of the crazy things he experienced.

It was getting dark, the three of you went inside to continue the conversation. The tv was on at a low volume to create a bit of ambience.

You placed your head on his shoulder “So…all of them are..?” you tried to ask “Gone? Yeah, well, Nayuta is here, so at least I found part of what used to be Makima” he said.

You were still trying to wrap your head around the fact that he ate his first crush or that his best friends, no, his family, were all dead.

As Denji concluded his story, he put his head on top on yours. He wanted to take your hand but you beat him to it, lacing your fingers with his.

“We’ll look for them, We’ll look for Power she must be around somewhere, I’m not sure about Aki or anyone else, but we’ll find them. You are not alone Denji, you have me, I- I love you and so does Pochita and Nayuta. Everyone loves you”

He made a sound of affirmation trying to hold back tears, you brought him into a hug. He wrapped his arms around you, this time finally spilling the tears he hasn’t been able to release until now.

“I- love you too, I really do, please stay with me tonight” he tried to say in between tears.

You placed a soft kiss to his cheek and then to his lips. He brought a hand to your face to bring you into another kiss that would last for a few minutes.

And so the two of you stayed up for hours laying on the couch of his living room. Hands intertwined, not letting go, both in a warm embrace sharing the occasional kiss.

Denji finally found the comfort he never thought he could get. There were still lots of challenges ahead, devils to kill, people to find. But for now none of that mattered. All he cared about now was the gentle sound of your heart beat.

His dream came true, finally being in the soft arms of a woman that loves him.

“So this is what it feels like” he said to himself. It was better than he had ever imagined, it was addicting.

“Let’s stay like this forever” he said to you “Yes, let’s stay like this...” was your answer.

Hi! About that one post about objectification in csm, what WAS the purpose? I didn’t think there was any, I thought Denji was that kind of person. I don’t mean this in a mean and derogatory way btw, I’m still kind of confused on some parts and trying to understand better! I just read it recently 😅

hiii anonie the purpose behind the objectification (and yeah you’re right in the beginning denji is a perv it’s not derogatory at all it is true) is to build up the Freudian motif in denji’s arc. this Freudian motif involves stuff Freud said about sexual attachment, repression and the blurring of boundary lines b/w sexual and platonic attachment in the absence of repression. im putting the explanation of how the motif works from the beginning till the end below the cut bc it got a little long

now the first thing we have to keep in mind is that denji is not only a boy who grew up in the absence of his mother so he doesnt know what motherly love/platonic love is he is also a social outcast, uneducated and extremely impoverished which makes him apathetic to society and in a sense, a little wild. so given that he is in puberty his sexual urges are well kind of at their height and also a new thing to him and he is never like schooled and taught to not project those urges onto random women. so ofc whenever he meets a new woman his libido and along w it his head just goes bonkers. now for normal people there’s actually layers of repression going on when it comes to the oedipus complex i.e. feeling a sexual desire for your mother [this is all freudian shit and its not like i believe all this but a large no of authors talk abt this so yeah dont think this is my opinion at all its just a popular psychology theory and also boohoo to freud for forgetting gay ppl] adolescent boys according to freud apparently have an oedipus complex on a subconscious level but thanks to repression [how does repression happen? in society (norms + moral codes) and thru social structures (family, school) we’re taught to separate b/w mother figures, sister figures, friends and lovers] the complex stays on a subconscious level; they don’t consciously project their sexual urges onto a girl who’s family (mother/sister) now contrast this with denji’s situation. none of the layers of repression actually happen in his case bc he never knew a mother and was completely cut off from society. so whenever he meets a girl despite their age or despite what kind of a bond might be possible b/w him and the girl in question he.....feels the need to do sexy stuff. however, over the course of the series we see this changing. first of all let’s sort out the different figures— makima (the mother figure) then power (the sister figure), then himeno (friend/superior figure) and then reze (the lover figure). denji’s bond with all these figures, in the initial phase, involved sexual and pervy stuff so basically a blurring of boundaries when it comes to different kinds of attachment. this same thing happens with shinji in evangelion with misato, rei and asuka. both denji and shinji are boys who never actually knew motherly love which makes it difficult for them to separate platonic and sexual attachment. for normal boys, this happens way before they interact with girls in society because a family structure, where they have a mother and perhaps a sister, teaches them how to distinguish platonic from sexual. so that’s why denji wants sexual intimacy with anyone and everyone and ends up objectifying them. but then in the end, he learns the difference. like when he feels up power but it feels empty. then when makima teaches her that there’s stuff outside “naughty stuff” which would give him emotional fulfilment. and then when he doesnt have sex with himeno because well he says its bc he wants makima to be his first but what he really means is what makima said about getting to know a person for emotional fulfilment prior to this got to him. he doesnt want random sex with women anymore. now he wants physical intimacy as long as there is emotional intimacy too and this happens with reze who is the real lover figure. after this we have the episode with power where they bathe together and theres that weird sex position (when power asks him to drink her blood) but denji says this doesnt feel sexy altho he knows power really well and theres an emotional connection so he learns to separate erotic love from familial love or sisterly love bc with power there is familiarity and comfort but no sexual desire. and in the end we have denji saying he really does love makima even after all that she has done and this time there is no fantasy panel of makima in lingerie cropping up in his mind. he only says he loves her. now this is a pure, platonic love that he feels for makima. it is the love someone has for their parent. makima + power & aki constituted his family (the social structure that puts a repression on wild sexual urges) if aki is the older brother and power the younger sister like makima said then makima is the mother. and this part was confirmed by fujimoto himself he says he named makima “makima” bc if we remove the “ki” it becomes “mama” which is what she is to denji [this is mentioned in the csm wiki] so, the love that he comes to feel for these three is indeed deeper than a frivolous kind of love or a momentary feeling of sexual attachment. also, in the aftermath, once he has grown enough to separate sexual from platonic, once he matures into someone who knows what empathy, affection and familial love is we see him get a daughter figure, Nayuta who is ironically the reincarnation of Makima, the first female figure denji felt sexually attached too. this is the poetic justice of the ending! we have a protagonist who’s fully outgrown his freudian attachment with a mother figure who took care of him and is now responsible for taking care of her instead but in the form of an adopted daughter. so the development kind of comes full circle. denji doesn’t objectify or crave sex with random women anymore and in fact now he’s matured enough to take care of a daughter with whom he has the purest platonic relationship and there’s no sexual connotation at work here like not even on the subconscious level. so yeah that’s why the objectification in the beginning was kinda necessary taking in consideration his pitiable position and also the development that happens through out the course of the manga. it also makes the conclusion to his character arc more potent and satisfactory :)

I would like to request hcs for Reze and Himeno with a Male S/O who is the Hybrid of the Death Devil who through a Contract chose the reader to act as it’s adjudicator by guiding souls to the afterlife and gently ending the suffering of those who were in immense pain, or near death from an illness through a sort of touch of death. The Death Devil might also be a Primordial Devil since the fear of death is very widespread.

Reze:

If you are in the Public Safety Devil Hunters:

- tbh if you’re not on her side she’ll make you on her side somehow, she will find a way, most likely she will take you and convince you to join her

- if the first attempt didn’t work, reze would continue to try and get you to work with her especially after she found out what you were

- she might fight you once or twice just to show that she can kill you when she wants and vice versa, but she never actually tries to kill you

- reze loves to “find” you in random places that you thought she wouldn’t know about only because it means you’re away from everyone else and she can talk to you herself

- if you end up never joining her side she wouldn’t kill you since it’s not her job, but she would still tend to follow you around and lowkey stalk you, if you do then she’d be so happy and would immediately start calling you her boyfriend without even any words spoken between you two

- she would actually warn you about makima before anything happened as her last act of kindness

- reze would love to tease you whenever she gets to see you just so she can see you get irritated or flustered

- you would be the last thing she think’s about, and how she would hope that you made it out of makima’s deathly trap alive

If you are not in the Public Safety Devil Hunters:

- if she met you and found out that you were the death devil hybrid and weren’t part of the public safety devil hunters then she would immediately be all over your ass lol

- deadass she’ll just follow you around until you talk to her 😐 when you finally do she’ll have already known that you were the death devil hybrid and so she immediately tells you what she is which makes you actually talk to her

- she would keep asking you to show what you can do after she showed what she could do and when you did, she knew that she would make sure you stayed with her and would help her

- soon enough you two basically became Bonnie & Clyde, fighting other devils or the devil hunters and resulting in you two getting together

- reze loved to watch you kill people with just one touch, she thought it was super cool! so she made sure that she would have to get better so she wouldn’t be worse than you, but she still knew that you were stronger than her

- she would use you as her own knight in shining armor and it worked every time, if anyone went after reze you would immediately kill them and she would be so happy

- she would constantly ask about why you chose to make a contract with the death devil, but if you don’t answer then she wouldn’t push it anymore

- you knew about her investigating denji and eventually trying to kill him but it didn’t bother you since you knew she would end up killing him, but you would definitely help because couple goals 😍

Himeno:

If you are in the Public Safety Devil Hunters:

- she didn’t know you were a hybrid at first until aki told her and then she was like :0

- she’d probably end up bothering and pestering you like she did with aki in hopes that you’ll end up having a conversation, if you do then she’ll be super happy!

- will let you smoke with her and give you her cigarettes if you do, if not then she’ll talk with you while on her smoke break

- when she saw your powers for the first time she was both scared and excited because you were super cool but also terrifying

- himeno would be too scared to ask you to show your powers once more, but she would totally ask all about them and how it works

- she’d probably drink with you and end up trying to sleep with you but if that’s alright with you then she’ll do it, if you say something then she’ll stop once she realizes what’s going on

- himeno wouldn’t care if you were a hybrid, she would still have the same feelings for you either way, and she’d definitely show it

- extremely affectionate and touchy with you but once again if you say something then she’ll tone it down

If you are not part of the Public Safety Devil Hunters:

- if himeno saw you on the street killing people with your “death touch” she would be staring the whole time until someone shook her out of it or you turned your head and saw her

- if she saw you again she’d end up going up to you and asking if you were the same guy from last time she saw you and if you say yes then she’ll continue to ask questions, if you say no then she’ll still ask questions

- even if himeno was ordered to kill you, she wouldn’t because in her words “he’s cute! i can’t kill him! 🥲”

- she would try and talk to you whenever you two were in the same place and she wouldn’t care what you’d think, she’d just do it anyways

- if she had the day off then she would go out and try to find you and end up asking if you wanted to get drinks, but she won’t let you say no

- if you decide to tell her about yourself and that you’re the death devil hybrid then good luck because himeno will ask so many damn questions

- she’d totally give you her number after drinking with you and if you call her then she’d be ecstatic and try to get in touch with you more

- she would actually be really good at keeping what you are a secret, knowing what the others would do if they found out about you and she loves you so much that she can’t risk exposing you :(
