spoilers for the New Norm series finale //

Norm has been locked in his room for days. his family is starting to worry.

"family," he says from behind the door, his family gathered around with bated breath. "ever since Chaz came along, i've been doing some... self-reflection. i'm finally ready to be honest with you all... and with myself. i'm... not the "old Norm" anymore..."

the door opens. Norm steps out in a gorgeous dress, perfectly-applied makeup, and long, wavy hair.

"i'm... the New Norma!" she exclaims with a positively radiant smile.

her wife and daughter weep tears of joy and take Norma in a loving embrace. Billie jumps into Norma's arms and gives her a barrage of sloppy dog kisses.

even Norma's formerly transphobic best friend, his heart having been softened from raising a trans daughter himself, welcomes Norma into her new, true life. they both toast Norma's transition with a couple of woke rainbow beers.

Chaz watches on with pride, knowing they've finally succeeded in washing the hate out of Norma's heart, including her own internalized transphobia.

the family celebrates with one last trip to Disney World as the end credits roll.

the after credits scene shows Elon Musk on his death bed, dying from terminal ligma. with his last breaths, he announces that he's sorry for being a bigot, ruining twitter, and for his horrible workplace conduct, and that he fully accepts his trans daughter.

"the new norm" rips the living room from "all in the family" almost exactly and its deeply funny to me

like i know tnn is SUPPOSED to be hugely inspired by aitf but its driving me crazy how thats THE SAME ROOM. right down to the little wall-hanging between the closet and stairs.

for context: all in the family was a show from the 1970s about archie bunker (a conservative white man), his simple but kindhearted wife edith, his progressive daughter and her husband, and various neighbors including a black couple and a feminist couple

the WHOLE SHOW is lightly making fun of archie, how he's stuck in his ways and out of touch, and how despite genuinely caring about his family he alienates everyone with his bigoted beliefs. it's a really interesting character study honestly

apparently even (or especially) back when this was airing, there were people who thought archie was the hero and not the butt of the joke. the rick sanchez problem is nothing new. it's just astounding to me how many people refuse to engage even an ounce of critical thinking.

anyway AITF season 1 is free on youtube, watch that (or literally anything else) instead of elon musk's cringe ass garbage
