#The man has not met a single sci-fi property he wouldn't shamelessly steal from

Here's your daily reminder that calling large language models and generative algorithms "AI" is purely a marketing gimmick to trick people into thinking the technology is more advanced than it actually is. People don't think the predictive text on their phones is all that impressive, but call it AI? Now companies want to replace their entire customer service staff with it.
It's all just a trick. It's been nothing but a trick. Microsoft and Musk and OpenAI have burned through billions of dollars of cash to develop the most advanced predictive text chatbots ever, trained on an Internet's worth of stolen data, and now they want a return on their "investment" so they're making it all our problem.
Also, every time Musk brings up the "AI Apocalypse" or Sam Altman drops some "Skynet" comment, that's another tactic to trick people into taking their product seriously (i.e., invoking sci-fi Artificial Intelligence to associate with their dumb chatbots), and also invites the government to regulate their "dangerous" product. This both legitimizes their industry (built on stolen data) and allows them to write their own rules, because who else understands their "AI" more than they do?
It also perpetuates a new Cold War with China, who are also developing this kind of technology. Now this new "AI Industry" is getting hooked into the multi-trillion dollar military-industrial complex. Israel is already pioneering a new level of automation where computers select targets for the IDF to bomb in Gaza, with little human oversight.
It's all a fucking scam to make a handful of people who already have all the money even more money and to add another layer of tech alienation to insulate those in power from the responsibility of their bad actions.
'Cause y'know, if they automate all of the decision making, now nothing is anyone's fault ๐คทโโ๏ธ.
