I was just thinking yesterday that next time I have money to waste I wanna commission art of him and Mael when they'd sit together and Mael would try to teach him songs. :(

18. I LOVE SUFFERING but i do like the contrast of hurt/comfort. We need the comfort to make the hurt gooder. But like I think !! Sometimes in different fandoms, you'll see that the themes of the source material pop up over and over in fics and stuff, and I think with VC it's such a huge theme that people just want to be loved, and how monsters can still be loved, and how we are not our worst deeds, that we can fuck up and still have value.

And it's a theme that I think gets applied unevenly in the canon, especially in the later books as Anne was just like keyboard smashing the blorbos and having fun. So like, since the POVs are so Lestat-Heavy we get a lot of Lestat knowing he's a bastard and still desiring love and goodness, and then other characters are loved unconditionally and we never really acknowledge that they're bastards, or I think steps get skipped where Lestat essentially winds up being the flawless Mary Sue character who is never accountable for anything he does--we still make it from Point A (fuckup does something terrible) to Point B (he is still loved) but I think it becomes less nuanced in the later books and we don't really spend time with the redemption arc. (An example is like, TOBT is ALL about how he fucks up and we really look closely at it and work through it, vs in the PL trilogy when he like noncon bites David and it's all fine and we don't even talk about it.) And using Lestat as an example because he gets the most screentime, but Marius is exactly the same, and it's further complicated that we never get POV from characters who dislike him LOL.

So to answer your question like, I love seeing him suffer because I love angst LOL but I root for him, I want him to know peace, and I think the story has a lot more potential for nuance than what we got in the books, which is why fandom is here. THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF TRANSFORMATIVE FICTION LOL. (To me lol, that's my mission here.) But if he doesn't suffer first there's no real value in his being at peace, that's boring LMAO where's the FLAVOR where's the CONFLICT; let him fuck up and suffer and destroy his entire life first so that we have a puzzle to work out to make his way back.

At the beginning of acotar, the sisters’ relationship was well established. Feyre wasn’t coming home shocked to find Nesta a changed person, so it’s reasonable to assume that her behavior had been going on for long enough that Feyre knew exactly what to expect. It wasn’t a vendetta against feyre specifically, or anyone specifically. It’s how Nesta handled her feelings, which takes me back to my point that Nesta needed to look inward for healing, not point fingers at other people.

I addressed my comment about atoning in another ask but to clarify further - Nesta has done important, useful, helpful things when the shit hit the fan. There is no disputing that. Just to reiterate, in my opinion, the important thing moving forward is that she doesnt resort to pushing people away again (when we know she doesn’t actually want to do that!)

I don’t understand why people keep saying Nesta is 24. Or calling her a girl. That’s a whole ass adult where I come from. Nesta was around 22-23 when the series started. A lot of these issues began much earlier, when she was a teenager, but�� she’s still an adult. I don’t think it does her much credit to infantilize her character in order to excuse her behavior. She can vote, and drink, and rent a car in the US. She could be married for a few years, be a parent a couple times over. (You didn’t call her a girl anon, obviously, I’m just commenting on things I’ve seen in the fandom.)

Re: Elain, that’s the difference I was referring to before. Elain doesn’t look to intentionally hurt people with her words or actions, so I wouldn’t talk about her journey in the same way I would Nesta’s. Elain has some accounting to do, which imo she is. She apologized to Feyre already and acknowledged that they should have done more to help her. Your ask actually made me wonder if that’s why she’s doing what she currently does - cooking and serving food at her home, rather than relying on servants to do it. Helping other people rebuild their gardens after the war. Either way, Elain’s story is not going to be about reconciling with how she has behaved towards other people in the way that Nesta’s was. That’s not to say she’s been perfect, but she didn’t go about trying to hurt people. Her journey is different.

I brought up Nesta's age because the way you worded "lifetime of cruelty" made it appear that Nesta hopped out of the womb ready to make people's lives difficult. I just disagreed with the argument that Nesta has led this crusade of cruelty her entire life. And pointed out her age to signify just how short her life has been.

Also, I don't think it's fair to compare a 24-year old in ACOTAR with a 24-year old raised in 2023 USA. Besides not having voting systems, Nesta was raised very differently due to the time period ACOTAR is in. Though she is 100% an adult, she is also a product of her circumstances and environment. It isn't an excuse, but rather an understanding.

I place a lot of the blame on Nesta's mom for the distance between Feyre and Nesta. Since Nesta wasn't receiving any love from her father (who was even written to be afraid of her), it's natural that she gravitated towards her mom and wanted to please her. For reasons, SJM hasn't explained yet, Feyre's mom hated Feyre and Nesta probably distanced herself from her sister so she doesn't get lumped in. Elain was probably the only "safe" sister.

Such ingrained behaviour isn't something that goes away overnight, but I think Nesta had always loved Feyre, she just wasn't used to showing it both out of fear if her mom found out and because of the distance that had already grown so large between them.

Nesta 100% moves through her world with her guards up, and it's a safety mechanism borne from her traumas and environment. But I don't think she resorts to cruelty as a first measure. Like Azriel said, he never picks a fight with her because she treats him the same as others. In that she "unflinchingly assesses" everyone she meets. For threats, weaknesses, strengths, e.t.c.

But considering how easy she befriended Amren, Gwyn, and Emerie, I think her way of interacting is largely attributed to whatever she gleans from people in her assessments. And how she communicates is receptive to those that can handle it. I remember Gwyn being delighted at Nesta saying something along the lines of "oh, your good".

Overall, I'm glad she's healing and making new bonds with people.

As for Elain, I can't remember where in the books she apologizes to Feyre? Unless you mean that she does so by her actions? I'm interested at how SJM plans on writing the dynamic between Elain and Nesta. I liked what you said in your other post, about how Elain has always put Nesta in a position to fight while she retreats to the background. I wonder if that would get fleshed out more.

(To clarify for everyone else, the first part of this up to "her journey is different" is my words that anon is responding to.)

I think if we were to try to compare cultures and technologies and society and such between our world and Prythian, it wouldn't come out in favor of Nesta being young/not mature. The world building in acotar is meh at best, but given the fact that they have arranged marriages and lords and such, if we were to try to put a timeline on entering adulthood in that world, it would be earlier than our own. That's impossible to quantify imo, mainly because the worldbuilding isn't really clear, I just wanted to point that out. Nesta is absolutely an adult, and she has been an adult since acotar began. She was engaged to be married in acotar, when she was 22(ish). But either way, saying she's young doesn't matter to me because age has no bearing on extending people basic respect and courtesy.

I think you have a point about Nesta and her mom! In acosf Nesta thinks every now and then about the things that her mom said to her, and things she said about Feyre and Elain. It seems like she wanted to shape them all into certain types of people who would further their ambitions as a family, and never took into account who any of the sisters are. They were all treated with the same sort of pragmatic eye, considering how they were useful, rather than what would make them happy. And by all accounts, their father was too busy making (and losing) fortunes to do anything about it, if he noticed. I assume we will hear more about her when it comes time for Elain's story, and I think that will be included in Nesta and Elain's reconciliation.

And how she communicates is receptive to those that can handle it.

I get what you're saying here because Gwyn, Emerie, and Amren definitely approach Nesta differently than some other characters. I don't think there is anything wrong with people saying "no thanks" when encountering her behavior, though. Perhaps that's not something we need to disagree about! Because perhaps Nesta is just not meant for everyone. She notes that she doesn't have the easy way of socializing with and smiling at people as Mor (I can't remember the exact quote) and I think there's nothing wrong with that. I just don't think it makes a lot of sense to say that one way of being is more or less right (when comparing the way that Nesta and Mor interact with other characters) when it's just part of who they are.

Re: Elain, I can't remember if she said the word sorry, but I know that she says that she and Nesta should have done more when they were at the cabin. I do think that her actions are a reflection of that as well. She's a high lady's sister, she could sit on her ass all day the way she used to, but she's not. She's out helping people and doing housework that she never would have done in acotar.

My hot take about Elain is that while she is genuinely kind, sometimes that kindness is a shield to keep people from looking too close or asking too much of her, and now it's biting her in the ass because no one is looking or allowing her to do much of anything.

I am known pretty unanimously around here for being measured and kind and sympathetic. I have many people who have not agreed with me and who I have patiently worked with to help find common ground. What I am about to say is not indicative of my online presence typically. It is a unique reaction to you and your absolute and total audacity.

First off, if I didn’t have more to get to in this post and if you deserved better (which you do not) I would say the following more tactfully. But I can tell already that you are incapable of looking inward and choosing to better yourself or mend your relationship with Jewish people or unpack your own biases. So, sorry not sorry, you get the most blunt statements I have ever spoken to anyone. Again, I cannot be clear enough that this is about you specifically and a reaction to your specific, gaslighting, audacious sense of entitlement.

What were you expecting from me after leaving your comment. I replied asking you to explain further, because it seemed from your comment like you were saying that you cannot be antisemitic because in the past people you know stood up to Nazis—you know, the literal bare minimum for any activist. I must have misunderstood. That’s like saying you can’t be racist because you have black friends.

I was also confused because…how was there a Nazi at your encampment stabbing the poor wee baby protestors if you don’t allow Nazis at your encampments? And what are you doing in your encampments that supports the Jewish right to exist anywhere as per your comment? I genuinely found this quite confusing.

I wanna be very clear. There are a lot of good people who think they are well informed on this topic and that they are helping Palestinians and being measured in their critiques of Israel. A lot of these people routinely miss the mark and make life harder for Jews inside and outside of Israel with their rhetoric. But these people are ok with me. These are people with empathetic hearts who are honestly trying to help and are open to growing when they realize they are causing harm instead.

I remain eternally grateful for @stephobrien and @jellymarbles and @noneedforbloodpressure and others for remaining extremely committed to Palestinian safety and justice while also learning how to identify when their activism tends toward antisemitism and curtailing it.

You are not like them. You are just an antisemite who cares much, much more about your own personal image as A Good Person™️ than you ever did about Jews or Palestinians.

You do have the same garden variety antisemitism that is prevalent on most pro-Palestine blogs, that is true.

For example, you post things reducing the war to a fandom-like discourse.

As if Taylor Swift is a pawn you can “win” for your side or as if a single musical artist could change the future of a region entrenched in literally thousands of years of conflict.

Not to mention the fact that Taylor HAS gone to an event supporting Anera, an organization that provides aid to Gaza that I wholeheartedly support and have even promoted on my own blog several times.

What Taylor has NOT done is speak out on behalf of Jews, 10/7, or against Hamas in any way. And guess what? SHE DOESNT HAVE TO. Would I like it if she did anything to show she gives a shit about Jews? Sure! But it’s not her job.

And I appreciate her staying in her lane and, when she did publicly support aid for Palestine, it was for a well-vetted charity. It’s kind of alarming that you not only haven’t bothered to educate yourself about the long history of conflict in the region outside of your own narrow viewpoint. (That’s par for the course in terms of public engagement with this cause right now and is annoying but ultimately correctable and forgivable) But you haven’t even bothered to educate yourself about the specific people you are talking about and how they’ve behaved over the past seven months.

How on earth am I supposed to trust you to be a reliable source of information on people you oppose in a centuries-long struggle when you can’t even be reliable about high-profile figures who are acting for the cause you supposedly support??? It is the lowest hanging fruit there is.

But ok. Maybe that was a one off. Maybe that was one misjudged post. It happens. I’ve certainly not been perfect in judging every single post, although I do make a point to at least try to always use basic media literacy and vet my sources and information appropriately. A good way to see how someone actually thinks and speaks about Jews is to just…search for it. Hmmmmm… let’s see how you feel about Jews.

Well, you certainly love to tokenize us—elevating only the voices of Jews who support your cause, especially when they criticize other Jews. Because that way you get to make blanket statements about Jews by proxy without actually saying the thing yourself.

OK, a striking visual lionizing your cause. Fine. I have my issues with how this is couched,especially how it seems to celebrate western college students wearing Palestinian ethnicity, personal loss, and culture as a costume.

You do understand that the tragedy facing Palestinian civilians is unconscionable and a humanitarian outrage. But you also must understand that The Holocaust was about more than just shoving starving people into overcrowded bunks, right? You understand that the Holocaust is a source of permanent and ongoing generational trauma that impacts every single Jew in the world, right? You understand that what made the Holocaust horrible was the slow descent of the society around us into a horde of hateful enemies who used our literal bodies as livestock and forced us to work building and seeing weapons and clothes for our abusers who worked us until our bodies gave out. And then they used the silver and gold fillings from our teeth, and the metal from our glasses, and the skin and fat from our bodies to make soap and weapons and leather and jewelry, right? You get how that’s something that is dangerous to misuse and reference as an outsider who lacks any sense of the weight of that trauma.

Because I’m not getting the sense you do actually understand this.

But you want to talk about decontextualizing history? How about the Jewish exodus from the Muslim world that occurred at the exact same time as the Nakba, only three years after the Holocaust? Seems like some textbook propaganda and misinformation and one-sided sourcing and narratives to me.

Do you think that might have anything to do with why Jews at the time were so desperate to hold on to Israel? Do you think being murdered out of Europe and expelled/cleansed from the rest of SWANA/MENA might have a little something to do with the choice of fight in the ongoing Jewish calculus of fight or flight.

2 am rant cuz I can’t sleep:

I’ve stated repeatedly that I’m pro-Palestine and pro-peace, so I obviously want a two sided, negotiated ceasefire and permanent peace for all. I’ve repeatedly stated that I do not condone the degree of heavy bombing taking place in Gaza.

But it’s currently 2:15 in the morning and I am haunted. I’m haunted by the fact that the world saw the brutal attack on Jews and celebrated. I’m haunted by the number of high l-profile celebrities who felt moved to speak out for Palestine — wearing flags and pins and signing demands for Israel to stop bombing, but who said nothing about the dead and tortured and kidnapped Jews.

Yes, what is happening in Palestine is and continues to be a tragedy.

But apparently what happened and is happening to Jews worldwide and Israelis of all religions simply isn’t. At least not enough of one. Not enough of one to move these high-profile folks to speak out for us. Not enough of a tragedy to say the names of the hostages, including one forced to give birth while kidnapped by terrorists. Not enough of a tragedy to condemn the violence happening against Jews. Not enough to speak out on behalf of a 20-year-old singer made to fear for her life because she dared to be from Israel and sing about her own trauma instead of, idk, bursting into flame or shutting up or whatever the mob wanted her to do.

No. What happens to us isn’t a tragedy. It’s a nuisance. It’s a nuisance to have to care about Jews. It gets in the way of everyone else feeling good about their “radical activism” and self-aggrandizing bravery. People of all levels and types of fame. All of whom say they only want peace and an end to pain. Yet when they mention pain, it’s always and only the Palestinian flag. When they want a ceasefire, it’s always an only in reference to Palestine. But they wouldn’t be caught dead asking for an end to Hamas or Hezbollah bombs or even acknowledging that they exist. All calls for peace involve asking Israel to lay down arms but no call for anyone attack Israel, Israelis, or Jews worldwide to do the same.

From large creators to small creators to people in day to day life, non-Jews around the world have made clear that it would be more convenient for them if we Jews just died. If we stopped ever defending ourselves or speaking up or being sad in public.

The vast majority of people speaking out would or will view this post as a justification of violence. But it’s not. It’s a condemnation of complicity from people who claim to care about peace. It is a condemnation of those who claim to be against antisemitism yet refuse to listen when Jews point out how they are contributing to and spreading more antisemitism. People and institutions worldwide have failed Jews everywhere.

Friends I’ve had for 8 years who don’t even respond to messages that I have moved out of state or even spoken to me in at least five months

So many people who are so eager to read every bit of pro-Palestine news that exists and condemn every action from Israel.

And yet…

Before the bombings. Before the reprisals. Before all the violence from Israel: where were they? All these people who so desperately beg for peace (as defined by the end of Israeli aggression only): where were they when it was just dead Jews? Where were the Instagram posts and educational content and in depth analyses of Israeli trauma and history? Where were the condemnations of Hamas? Where were those who are moved to speak for anyone and everyone but Jews?

Are we really supposed to believe any of you actually want peace? When you chant for the globalization of terror tactics that traumatized a generation of Israeli Jews? When you fail to acknowledge Jewish history in any way except to minimize it?

Before the bombing campaign, where were the red carpet statement pins and gowns featuring Jewish stars?

How are we Jews anywhere in the world literally ever supposed to believe that you’re not actively cheering for our deaths? Maybe not in front of our faces, but certainly behind our backs. We know. We know you’re afraid to be less than tactful in front of us, but that you describe our rapes and murders and social exclusion and kidnappings as “unfortunate but necessary.”

I’m reminded of when Israel was first created. At a time where every Jew on earth was traumatized directly because the Holocaust firsthand, Britain left the territory of mandatory Palestine and the UN allowed for the creation of a Jewish state. And then proceeded to heckle the traumatized survivors for handling its creation poorly. The Nakba is a tragedy and an outrage and I’ll never deny that.

But…y’all are no different from the people who stood on the sidelines as Israel was first created. Why was it up to an actively traumatized people who had very recently (and after a continuous 2,000 year period of expulsions and pogroms and murders) been slaughtered on an industrial scale to somehow create a perfect and stable government in a land where people despised them?

The world needs to own up to the fact that everything that ever went wrong in Israel’s creation is a direct result of the continuous and still ongoing contempt for Jews by all the other countries that could have stepped in to help and provide Jews with a guarantee of safety at any time in the last 2,000 years in general but also since 1934 specifically. And you didn’t. Your great grandparents and grandparents and parents all didn’t do jack shit. And you are following in their footsteps. You are all doing just as they did: standing on the sidelines and heckling the Jews you don’t like for fighting back too aggressively.

But what exactly have you or anyone else done to help Jews in your communities or in Israel to not feel like caged animals forced to fight for survival? Like wild beasts you let loose for slaughter in a coliseum for your own enjoyment? At what point have you worked to provide Jews with other options? How have you made the Jews in your life feel safe or seen during this time? How have you started to deconstruct the harmful anti-Jewish bias you inherited from the people you love?

Is it ok that Netanyahu and the Likud government is bombing Palestine to the extent it is currently doing? Of course not. And I’ll never say otherwise.

But aside from yelling “hey stop it!” at Israel or “you’re complicit!” at Jews who fail to join your chanting, what exactly have you done at any point since this started to make the world safer for any of us?

Because from what I can see, the vast majority of you have done nothing. And every Jew I’ve spoken to in the last half a year has seen the exact same nothing.

Too many of you are too concerned with being on the right side of history. Most of you aren’t famous actors or musicians or whatever. Most of you are just people. History won’t remember you individually. Who knows what history will say about the movements of which you were a part? My guess is that you’ll be called passionate and outraged and sympathetic, but ultimately disorganized and misguided.

But you know who will remember you? Every Jew you’ve encountered since 10/7. We will remember each individual we saw who celebrated our death or ghosted us or made us feel unwelcome in our own lives.

We will remember you forever. And not fondly.

toko fukawa comphet no i don’t take criticism

nobody will even see this because my account just. doesnt get traction but here have a ramble abt toko’s backstory and how much i firmly believe her attraction was comphet.

spoilers for thh, sdr2 and udg

toko was severely neglected and unwanted when she was a child. she grew up with two mothers and one father due to both sleeping with the same man and neither wanting their child which caused her to be mistreated. once she was locked in a closet and forced to stay there for three days without food. clearly, she grew up in a household completely devoid of healthy love. genocide jack’s development was likely a response to cope with the traumatic experiences.

her time in elementary was no different. in third grade, she was used as a scapegoat for stolen money and her classmates tied her to the jungle gym with a garden hose as punishment.

her first real “love” was with a boy who she had been friends with since elementary but when she finally confessed through a letter, she found it pinned to the bulletin board to mock her. this was genocide jack’s first kill, leading me to believe that her murders were actually a form of protection.

on one occasion (and most likely more considering her difficult relationship with understanding rejection) she was ghosted halfway through on a date after spending three days and nights planning it so that she would not mess it up. she later found out that the boy only asked her out because he lost a bet.

the most likely only healthy representation of love she ever has was through media, which is arguably extremely heteronormativity and the actual healthiness of how relationships are presented in media is debatable.

she internalised all of these things happening to her and believed she deserved them somehow, building her inferiority complex. she began to assume that people only expected bad of her and self victimises herself almost on instinct despite her nature to express opinions without care for others most of the time. her self esteem is extremely low and she often worries about being considered an “old hag” in ultra despair girls.

toko fell in love with the idea of love, not an actual person. at some point she turned to novels and writing as a way to express her emotions and she used that passion to create works of art through her novels and created a toxic idolisation of the perfect relationship with nothing but media, her family’s relationships and her past experiences to go off.

she began to let herself get hurt and internalise it which ended up building her inferiority complex even further to the point of becoming unhealthily infatuated with anyone she saw fit as a stand in for the dreamy perfect people that made her books succeed.

time and time again genocide jack and toko were mistreated in their relationships, causing their system to suffer greatly. jack began to kill anyone toko saw fit as a perfect romantic interest to protect them both, but this most likely caused her own mental health to decline as well, leading to the aggressive, startling and manic personality we saw in the games.

toko began to both idolise and fear falling in love. while she knew they would most likely be killed and she would have to cope with knowing that the police could come knocking any day if they put the pieces together, she also still purposed her life around being in a perfect relationship because it was now causing her to gain traction through her novels.

this only furthered her unhealthy infatuation with relationships. she became determined to find a man who fit her description of the perfect man and would not mislead, use, mock or hurt toko in hopes that he would not be killed and she would finally achieve her dream.

enter byakuya togami. blonde, blue eyed, rich, cold and most importantly, entirely unattainable. he was an ideal stand in, especially considering the circumstances of the killing game (jack’s unique killing style would immediately be found out). she was able to fantasise from afar without ever really getting as severely hurt as she had in the past because he simply did not care to provide her his attention.

jack had two options. kill byakuya and get executed, or suck it up. clearly you can tell which option she chose. in addition, she had all of her memories from prior to the game which most likely slightly numbed her thirst for blood. by the end of ultra despair girls, she has grown a respect for toko, a softness for komaru and even calmed jack down to the point where it’s suggested that she no longer uses her skills to murder but instead fight despair.

in fact, near the end, toko is acutely aware of what is happening despite the fact jack was fronting (they don’t usually share memories, only emotions), suggesting they may have slightly integrated but i don’t really want to make assumptions considering i do not have did and am not educated enough to speak confidently about did.

ironically, the killing game was actually good for both of their mental health’s. i’ll only be talking about toko but in ultra despair girls she was emotionally stronger and more mature. she believed she finally had a purpose other than romance and that she could fight against all odds. she even credits makoto for her newfound courage. she criticises cowards and those that remind her of her past self. she is willing to challenge her fears.

komaru had an amazingly powerful and positive effect on them both. her softness, optimism and empathy help toko’s character develop even further. when komaru tries to give in to despair, toko encourages her to face her fears. toko, who was before extremely afraid and uncomfortable with being touched, is now willing to comfort and even hug komaru. she claims she’s finally found a true friend (that’s actually human, can’t forget kameko the stinkbug) and that she found hope in her.

komaru admires toko and doesnt really mind her split personality, instead just considering it “a bit strange”, which is a noticeable difference from how she was treated by everyone else for it. toko is protective of komaru during chapter two due to her suspicion of shirokuma. later, they even sleep in the same bed.

however, when toko risks komaru’s life for byakuya, they get into an argument in which toko accuses komaru of manipulating her with terms such as “friends”, which leads to komaru showing that she really does trust her.

later, this arguably resolved after servant forces jack and toko to fight against komaru for byakuya. they fight back against servant and komaru forgives her because they are friends, which makes toko extremely happy, so much that she blushed and admits she has never had a real friend before. she thanks komaru genuinely for the first time and they try to become real friends.

toko swears she will help komaru with anything she can’t do by herself, just like komaru would do for her.

toko even stays by her side to the point of rejecting the opportunity of going to future foundation to stay with komaru :)

in the end of danganronpa goodbye despair, which is set after ultra despair girls, kyoko reminds byakuya that someone is waiting for him and he jokes that she shouldn’t remind him of “something so horrifying”. and honestly i think the fact he was able to joke about it shows that perhaps toko and byakuya found a somewhat healthy relationship as friends, acquaintances, or even just bearing eachother’s presence.

a notable addition that didn’t really fit anywhere else is toko’s scrapped execution. “first kiss prank” is the title and it consists of byakuya running towards her before toko gets hit by a roller. that says enough about her biggest fears and how badly her past memories affected her.

in conclusion, toko fukawa’s obsession with byakuya was comphet due to pressure from the media and her toxic ideals. the fact she was able to form a healthy relationship with komaru is hhh and i could talk about them for hours. tokomaru is the second closest thing we have to inmedia stated canon (fuck kodaka’s statement me and the homies hate kodaka’s statement about naegiri /j)

The Old Guard ficlet?

Love that the fandom has decided that both nicolo and yusuf stay true to their own religion, and not try to convert each other. But this gave me an idea. Keep in mind that i havent read nor wrote a fic ever since the old days of 2013. So i have no idea what this is, wether its a ficlet or a prompt or whatever.

Anyway imagine this:

During mission, or long period of back to back mission, it's difficult for Joe to keep up with his five times a day-prayers. During mission there's often just no time nor opportunity to do so. Nicky and Nile often manage to sneak in some prayers during their travels from A to B. Sometimes alone or together, since they're both Christian/Catholic. Neither of them are really churchgoers anyway. For Joe its just difficult.

So whenever they're back at Safehouse HQ aka home Joe tries to make up for all his lost prayers. Him being absolutely not a morning person doesnt stop him from getting up early. Softly kissing Nicky's hair, who's pretending to still be asleep, silently leaving their bedroom to go pray in a different room. Nicky is awake the moment Joe lifts his head up from the pillow, but understands his husband's need for this moment alone with God. So he, and the others of the team, avoid the room Joe is praying in. Even Andy, who lost faith many millenia ago, respects this ofcourse. So none of them react to it whenever Joe disappears to pray throughout the day. Nicky keeps a close eye on Joe, knowing it can weigh heavy on him that he often misses out on prayer during missions.

So imagine, after they start working with Copley. A couple years into the new set-up with Copley they end up having pretty much back to back missions due to shit happening in the world. These back to back missions go on for years. Sometimes with barely even a day in between them. Like i said, Nile and Nicky pray on the road, if they feel the need to. During a couple of missions in Italy Nicky and Joe manage to find the time to go to a cathedral somewhere for Nicky to go to confession, Joe waits outside for him.

During these years Joe keeps telling himself that he’ll catch up and make amends once they have some time in between missions. Obviously not expecting this back to back to last for years. Somewhere during these years Nicky notices a shift in Joe. It’s barely visible, the rest of the team doesnt pick up on it. But Nicky does, Nicky always does. He keeps an even closer eye on Joe and notices one day, while they’re in a safehouse packing and re-stocking for the next mission that Joe doesn’t pack his prayer mat. He’s deeply attatched to it and always brings it. So he can pray in whatever safehouse they are. After years of not having be able to, Joe figured it’s just extra and unnessacary weight to lift and leaves it behind. Being a religious man himself, and knowing Joe better than anyone, he has picked up on small signs before that Joe is straying from his faith. He’s less cheery, and awfully quiet for his doing. He stopped looking up to the sky when he’s thinking deeply or in stressful situations. It’s the small things like that.

The red flags really start waving when they, weirdly enough, have two whole free days between missions. Nicky, like all the others, expects Joe to wake up early and go pray in a different room. But instead he stays in bed. When Nicky is sure the timewindow of him usually rising has passed he turns around in the bed and looks at Joe, who’s staring up at the ceiling, wide awake. That’s not good, Nicky acts immediately.

He scoots closer to Joe in the bed and rests his chin on Joe’s chest, looking up at him. He starts talking softly, in his rough morning voice, to Joe. ‘‘Habibi, shouldn’t you be praying? What time is it?’‘, he asks softly. He’s speaking Arabic. Despite being Joe’s mothertongue, not a language often spoken between them. When they still were getting to know each other at the beginning of their immortal lives, Nicky had trouble with the Arabic tongue. Joe, who’s amazing with languages, quickly picked up on Nicolo’s Italian and soon they spoke Italian with each other. Ever since it’s kinda been their default language, despite Nicky being fluent in Arabic aswell. But this, Nicky figured, needs to be spoken in Arabic.

Joe doesn’t really reply to the question. He just kinda shrugs and wraps his arms around Nicky’s waist, holding him tightly. ‘‘It doesn’t really matter’‘, he replies after a little while, in Nicky’s Italian. Joe’s religion is very important to him, so this worries Nicky.

He goes to talk to the team about it. And they all agree, they have to talk to Copley. Not only Joe needs a break from the back to back missions, they could all use it. And so it is decided that after three more time sensitive missions they get to have a couple of months to a year off.

Their last mission ends up being in Istanbul. Nicky couldn’t be happier. He packs Joe’s prayer mat with his gear and they head off. The mission goes smoothly and they’re back in the Istanbul safehouse in a couple of days. The next day, Nicky doesn’t press on it when Joe doesnt get up to pray in the morning. In fact, he’s still asleep. So Nicky just gently cuddles him.

But that evening he drags Joe to the Hagia Sophia, for evening prayer. Prayer mat under his arm. Joe, knowing what his husband is trying to do for him, only insists once that they don’t have to. They can just go out for dinner, it’ll be more fun. Besides, they’re early for prayer anyway. In the courtyard of the Hagia they meet up with an Imam, who pulls Joe aside and takes a walk with him through the gardens. Afterwards Joe joins the evening-prayer.

When Joe comes back late in the evening, he stayed talking to the Imam some more. Nicky has made friends with some people in the courtyard. It was there that he made the concious decision to converse with Joe more in Arabic, knowing how important the language is to the religion. And just overall wanting to be there for his hubby.

After that the usual rituals find their way back. But Joe stays in contact with the Imam

hi anon !! as usual this is probably gonna get pretty long so i apologise in advance hhdgdhd

so this is the part where i get cancelled because i have to admit that i don’t really care about hananene all that much- i don’t dislike it or have anything against it!! it just doesn’t interest me that much personally, and i kind of prefer the idea of a platonic relationship between them (give me chaotic bi best friends rn). one thing i will say about them is that they need to have a serious talk at some point about this thing hanako does where he assumes what nene wants instead of actually just asking her- bc he’s made some pretty terrible decisions because of it and still doesn’t really seem to acknowledge that it’s maybe a bad thing to do. im very much rooting for nene to yell at him once the current arc has been resolved bc he kind of deserves it. anyway, i can definitely see the appeal, its the Main Ship for a reason, but it just doesn’t particularly get me, you know??

i dont think its any secret that aoinene is one of my favourite tbhk ships- one of my favourite ships full stop, even. you look inside my brain and it’s just full of aoinene thoughts 24/7. nothing else in there. i think my favourite thing about them is the fact that they can be cute friends-to-lovers who garden together and probably wrote letters to each other when they were kids, but they can also be super complex and painful (while still having the potential to work things out eventually.) aoi and nene are both characters who have been lying to each other since the beginning of the series- nene has been keeping the supernatural stuff from aoi to the point that aoi was convinced nene hated her and was avoiding her, and aoi has been putting on a fake personality in order to fit in, and never mentioned it until she felt lost enough to want to disappear into the far shore. again theyre another two that have a LOT to talk about after this arc, and i very much hope that aidairo don’t skip over the the struggles they’re probably going to have to go through to repair their relationship. i guess the thing that really gets me about aoinene is the fact that neither of them are in the right, but nothing they’ve done is irreparable either- it might take a bit of work to fix things, but that sort of,, potential for growth is something that i really enjoy. i definitely prefer ships like that where both characters are a bit flawed bc it just makes it feel way more human despite this, aoi + nene do still clearly care about each other though!! (i will gladly fight anyone who thinks aoi doesnt care about nene.) some of the times nene has looked most distressed have been when aoi is in danger, and aoi openly worries about nene doing strange stuff by herself- and she looks up rumours and scary stories to tell her bc she knows nene enjoys them !! (also you cant tell me that aoi’s ‘i missed my chance to tell her’ didn’t seem at least a little bit romantic) i should probably stop here but aoinene has pretty much every single one of my favourite tropes, they can be super sweet while also having the potential for a lot of depth, and man i just want them to talk things out and start being more honest with each other,,

Not the same anon but I would love to hear about the beauty and the beast version. I feel this fandom has greatly failed in not doing a beauty and the beast au for zimbits and you know what's up!

*cracks knuckles* im not sure if i’ve posted this before but i’d been talking about it with @fabbittle a while back:

OKAY SO the premise is the same as the amnesia one and it’s bitty living in a cottage in the woods and so one day he comes across this really injured beast/monster. the beast is jack under curse. when he turned, he was chased and hunted by his own royal guards and friends who didn’t recognize him, and chased out of his kingdom. he’s cursed to be a monster until someone falls in love with him, but alas, who can love a beast?

someone with a weird fetish like bitty, obviously. he takes one look and he’s thirsty. like jack’s still humanoid, he’s still muscular, and he’s got a lot of fur. and bitty can tell that he’s probably some poor guy who got cursed into a what to him seemed like a magnificent sexy beefcake. so while bitty’s nursing jack back to health there were two trains of thoughts in the cottage. the one that belongs to jack is “i’m a monster and he is so kind, i cant believe i love him so much, but there is no way he will ever love me.” while bitty’s thoughts are kind of just “fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck meeeeee.”

bitty tries everything to seduce jack. but jack’s not picking up the hints, just lamenting about his ugliness and how he’s unloveable. but eventually bitty does say the words “i love you, you big handsome goofball!!” and then jack glows and poof. he’s human again!!!

and bitty’s a bit sad, because if jack was human again it meant that he’d have to go back home, just when the two of them got together. but jack actually said that he wanted to stay here with bitty, that he didn’t much like his old life anyway, and he loves bitty and he loves the town samwell and everyone who lived there. but one day, a while later, an old man rides into town. he’s tired, and hungry, and he says that he’s looking for his son.

jack was honest with bitty. he told him about his old life, as crown prince of the kingdom, about a fiance he didn’t care for, about the anxiety that he had about living up to his father, about his fear of failure. it all came to ahead when he was cursed and no one had recognized him, and he’d truly became something unworthy and disgusting in their eyes.

“do you miss your parents?” bitty had asked.

“yes,” jack replied honestly. “but i think it’s better that they don’t have me as a son.”

but here robert zimmermann was, cold and tired from his journey, asking for magical favors everywhere, trying to find his greatest pride. bitty knew that if he knew jack was here, robert would take him away and break the small comfortable life that they built up together.

“my saddle broke,” bob said at the inn. “do you know where i can fix it?”

“Tailor John knows how to do leatherwork for saddles and does most of the work in the town for it, but he just left yesterday to go to his daughter’s wedding and won’t be back for two weeks,” the innkeeper replied, “but bitty’s husband also knows how to do a quick repair, should last you until you reach another town. hey, bitty!”

“hey there Jim,” bitty says as he brings in the day’s bread into the inn. “did i hear anything about a broken saddle?”

“yeah, guy needs a fix, you think your jack can do it?”

“well he can certainly try, he’s busy fixing our chicken coop right now, a fox got in last night, but if you come over tomorrow at noon i’m sure he’ll take a look at it,” bitty replied, looking warily at the man who looks almost exactly like jack and who said he was looking for his son.

jack and bob see each other the next day, and bob bursts into tears and hugs his son as he finally got him back.

“why haven’t you come back? is there anything wrong? what’s this i hear about you being married?” he looked cautiously through the window at bitty, who was shooing away a deer that came near their garden trying to nibble at their cabbage.

“i was cursed, he helped me lift it, and i decided to stay. i’m sorry for not contacting you or maman sooner, but i don’t want to go back.”

bob became stern, “jack, this is your responsibility. you can’t leave your kingdom helmless in the future when it needs you. a ship without a captain steers itself into the waves and drowns. i don’t know what kind of dreamland you’ve been imagining yourself to be in but you need to snap out of it.”

“i can’t leave bitty.”

“then bring him with you, set him up in the capital with the finest things as repayment for taking care of you. he’ll have a great life as your lover.”

“he’s not just my lover, he’s my husband.”

“….is he a knight?”

“no.”

“has he ever went on a quest to save a kingdom, or defeated a dragon? do you think he can even hold a sword? will he be able to intermingle with the court life? how will he have any kind of dignity in the eyes of anyone in our circle as a prince consort now and a king consort in the future? what, are you going to give him a fake title and a dukedom to force him to integrate into our lives?”

seeing that jack can’t argue back but wasnt changing his mind, bob tried for a softer approach. “jack, you can bring him back with us. let him get used to how things are, and then we’ll talk about it, okay?”

so the three of them go to the capital and bitty is enraptured by all the beautiful things there, but there’s a slight hiccup. he’s ignored by every single person. the court, being very sensitive to the king and queen’s wishes, snubbed him on basically all occasions. he was given quarters in a small room far away from jack, and even though jack told him to just stay in jack’s room he wasn’t able to see jack often because jack comes back later and tired. when they first arrived bob and alicia didn’t even bother introducing him to anyone as jack’s husband.

jack introduces bitty to people, and in jack’s presence there would be stilted conversation that stops as soon as jack wasn’t there. he tries his best to get bitty situated, but he’s being inundated as it were by tasks and jobs and responsibilities that he has to pick up again.

and bitty realizes what’s happening, that no one wanted them to be together so they’re forcing this war of attrition. it comes to a head after a month, when bitty just couldn’t take it anymore and breaks down.

jack: let’s just elope.

bitty: what? we can’t do that.

jack: …go back home and i’ll come get you when i convince my parents to stop playing this stupid game. i’ll much rather you be happy away from me than suffer by my side.

bitty reluctantly agrees, and goes back. he waits and waits for a message from jack or jack himself, but doesnt get anything until there’s news that the prince of the neighboring kingdom, jack zimmermann, is getting ready to be married. but he still waited, because maybe that’s just a rumor and jack would tell him if anything happened, and that’s when a knight walked up the path to his cottage. and asked him to approve of a divorce from jack so that his next marriage can be legal.

enclosed was a letter in jack’s handwriting that basically said that he realized that it was impossible for him to change his parents mind and impossible to leave. and that he could be stubborn and bring bitty back no matter what but he knows that it would just make bitty miserable. he’s sorry that he couldn’t say this in person, but he knew that if he saw bitty he’ll never want to leave.

bitty signs, and then shuts the door in the face of the knight without even offering him refreshments for his long journey.

bitty: i know its selfish but i wish the curse on jack had never broke. he’d have never been found, he’ll still be mine.

and then, miles and miles away, a roar erupted in a panicking room as prince jack zimmermann transformed painfully into a giant beast in front of everyone. his parents grow frantic trying to break the curse, but no one could do it.

note: this is from a long time ago that i never finished so here’s the rough rough rough ending

basically more panicking from the royals and jack ups and leaves again and finds his way somewhere where he sees bitty again. they don’t get together quite yet but eventually they start talking more and jack apologizes.

bitty: “i made a dumb stupid wish and i wish i can turn you back but i can’t i’m sorry”

jack: “that’s okay. i think if i wasn’t still in love with you i wouldn’t have turned anyway. my parents love me, i know, but i could never live up to them. i would’ve never been good enough, might as well stay here and eat berries.”

they still don’t get together, until one day jack’s on a hunting trip and get’s lost in the winter and meets up with a bunch of kids who also got lost, and he saves them and eventually leads them home. they thank him a lot and and jack’s pretty content with himself, before going back to his hut. and bam human again -insert disney music-

jack knocks on bitty’s door with some flowers in hand, all “i know you’ve always wanted to see the world, and now i can take you places. we don’t have to be together, but do you want to come with me?”

and so they set off together and one day bitty looks at jack weaving a scarf for the winter and kisses him.

Ok so I know some people in the fandom don't like talking about Magnus' past lovers because anyone that isn't Alec everyone just turns their heads but ok listen. Your last response about Magnus and queer history my head immediately went to Freddie Mercury and oh please I would like a little more insight on how they met and their relationship. The only thing we knew was that Magnus would go to his concerts and even drag his friends along. What I would give to learn more about them.

okay so first im gonna talk a little bit about how i view their relationship. now, they probably weren't in a very serious relationship, since theres this whole Magnus Locked His Heart Ever Since Camille thing, but Magnus and Freddie have SO much in common i cant really think this was just a fling, either. so here's what i think: magnus and freddie were good friends who sometimes hooked up and that definitely had chemistry to have something special, but it never happened because Magnus never fully allowed himself to give in to it and neither did Freddie - im assuming their relationship was in the 70s, since in the 80s Freddie met his husband, Jim Hutton, and at that time Freddie also had a hard time trusting and loving. also, Magnus was already in New York, so it couldn't have been too serious. but Magnus would go around to watch their concerts and every time he would find Freddie somehow (it wasnt that hard, really, you just had to go to the local queer scene) and they would sometimes hook up, sometimes just talk and enjoy each other's company, sometimes both. that's what i think it's most likely.

but the absolutely OFF THE CHARTS amount of vibing they must have done. i dont think you fully understand - unless you're a queenie trash bitch such as me - just how similar magnus and freddie are. here's a short, comprehensive list of Freddie Mercury Traits:

Freddie was seen and stereotyped as an overly sexual, lothario, diva and inconsequential kind of guy, and to some extent he put on this facade, but in reality he was extremely closed off and insecure and loving, and this was mostly a persona he put on to protect himself

Despite that whole persona, Freddie was an extremely compassionate guy who did everything he could to help others, particularly other queer people. His personal assistant, his chef, his chaffeur, all were other queer guys (sometimes his exes even) that had nowhere else to go and were in need of a job, and Freddie was just like "oh, would you look at that, you're hired now. I'm gonna pay you, hm, 3 million" it was so. When Jim lost his job Freddie hired him as a gardener. They literally met because they were talking in a club and Freddie was all like "lets all go to my house" and brought in a bunch of strangers to his home. That's the kind of guy he was. His house was always open as well

Freddie was loyal to a fault and a little bit too trusting, and was stabbed in the back a few times. The most well-known one is P*ul, who outed him against his will despite them having years of friendship, a blow that Freddie never fully recovered from, but there were others. Despite being a shy guy and reluctant to open up, he actually wore his heart on his sleeve and this sometimes ended up hurting him, a lot

Freddie felt absolutely lonely and like he was unworthy of being loved. This is not a secret, its a common theme in a lot of his songs, the most prominent of them being somebody to love. He wanted to be loved and taken care of but at the same time wouldnt allow himself

He was also very insecure. Jim says in his book that Freddie would frequently ask him, out of the blue, if he loved him, despite the fact that they were, you know, married (not in the paper, of course, but Jim bought him wedding rings and Freddie called him his husband, so i consider them married)

He was constantly scared of being an inconvenience. When he found out he had AIDS, his first instinct was to tell Jim that if jim wanted to leave him he would understand. Jim, of course, said that was bullshit and he wouldnt leave Freddie because of that

He was a perfectionist and always wanted to do his absolute best, nothing less. He was also a creative genius as we all know

He loved cats and would bring random cats into his home constantly

He loved fashion and pretty things

He was a queer, gnc man of color

He had a pretty protective side to him; queen's bassist, John Deacon, was extremely shy and said that Freddie pretty much shielded him from the press attention, and also helped him polish his song writing skills and always wanted him to do his best. After Freddie died, John quit the showbusiness.

I mean, remind you of someone? Holy fucking shit, i nearly lost my goddamn mind when they mentioned that he hooked up with Freddie, because they're so similar in their issues and insecurities and interests it's almost meta. I don't know if that was on purpose or not, but i thank the sh writers every day for that line tbh honestly i am so blessed

Unfortunately i think they might kind of be too similar - you get two very insecure, afraid to be hurt people who kind of have a persona together and it's kind of hard to have them have a meaningful relationship. But where Freddie was shy, Magnus was extroverted and easygoing, and there were always parties (something the both of them loved) and they had enough common interests to bond over. Also, they both couldnt help but wear their heart on their sleeves, even when they tried not to. And i mean, i am 100% sure that Magnus absolutely loved Queen, because 1- who doesnt? 2- the songs are so intense and heartfelt and beautiful and theatrical and that's right on magnus' alley; 3- the lyrics just speak to him, because there Freddie was, writing about wanting to be loved and fearing to open himself up, and there was also Brian writing all these songs about seeing your loved ones die, and Roger was a domestic abuse victim - there was just so much for him to relate too. So i can definitely see Freddie and Magnus staying up awake late at night, looking at the window and talking about themselves, their fears, the personas they have created and how hard it is to break out of them, when they were alone in a hotel room and everyone else who was at the party was gone. Just the two of them, having heart-to-hearts, then sleeping, but the next day the magic was gone and they were both back to guarding themselves - also, Magnus was avoiding getting involved with mundane men, if you go by my headcanon. so there was just too much holding them back

but it was still an important relationship that helped the both of them learn more about themselves and get a little more used to opening up and allowing themselves to talk about themselves. they didnt really break up as much as drift apart - Freddie had the band and Magnus was high warlock of Brooklyn and the political tensions in the downworlder community were high. But they both got their happy endings after all - Freddie met Jim and they were together until the end of his life, and Magnus met Alec, who will be with him for the rest of eternity too because i said so :) so its all good, in the end, and Freddie will always have a special place in magnus' heart, as both an amazing human being that he was honoured to meet and someone who was really, really important to magnus and that helped him become who he is today and be a little happier and more comfortable with himself

he still loves queen and listens to them constantly. sometimes its bittersweet to think about him, but most times its just good to hear these songs that mean so much to him and think of how far theyve both gone

I can get angry about a lot of things but most of the time idon’t express. I can’t stand injustice. If i witness that, i can’t stop myself.I usually try to talk to people about why it made me angry and why what theydid was bad. If they continue doing what they did, sometimes i yell at theirfaces and feel bad for the rest of my life. I also get mad at people that doesnteven know me that well for telling me what to do. I feel so happy about advicesbut not about people that saying they know everything.

I do overthink and overanalyze, i hate that about myself. Im notgood at coping with things but i try to distract myself with music, youtube and movies. Writing also helps a lot. I don’t see problems everywhere. I do worry about a lot of things but im not trying to find a thing to be upset. But if something happens and makes me sad i go crazy and become a drama queen for a week about it. This is what overthinking makes me do.

Rose - Name your favorite animals and plants. Do you have anypets or plants?

I love doggos. Every kind of dogs. Big dogs, small dogs, smiley dogs, sad dogs, black dogs brown dogs white dogs light brown dogs... I also love cats!!!! and monkeys. I know trees are not like a plant but adsfjfn i like trees. Oh I like cherry trees!!!! Sadly i dont have any pets or plants but we have a garden so there are a lot of flowers and fruit trees there !!

Greg - What music do you like? Any favorite genre, bands orsingers? Name your current favorite song

I love rock, pop-rock, classic rock, alternative rock, pop, some indie, some metal and some k-pop. I also have a thing for jazz but i listen to it randomly. I can’t choose a fav band but Queen and Panic!at the disco have my heart forever. I like a lot of singers but i don’t have a spesific fav one.Maybe melanie martinez and lady gaga. My current favorite song is “look what you made me do” by taylor swift bc i can’t stop listening to it and also memes for that song are great.

Sorry, but I don’t agree with “TBH I think that Nesta still has work to do because a few actions don't make up for a lifetime of cruelty.”

Mostly on the basis that we don’t know what their history is. We can’t judge her “lifetime” based on 4 chapters of the book. Especially when SJM is so inconsistent about her storylines (like the whole Feyre can’t read thing).

I think your referring mostly to the fact that Nesta needs to atone for what she has said to Feyre, but their relationship is conflicting and far from being abusive.

And I don’t think what Nesta has done up until this point has been “a few actions” she has repeatedly risked her life for her family, and saved Feyre and her unborn child. She went to a high lords meeting and told them that it was because of Feyre that she even lives. She was ready to sacrifice herself in war. And that scene at Feyre’s (almost) deathbed too. I mean, what more actions is needed to “atone”.

And she’s only 24/25 so what lifetime of cruelty does she have under her belt. What can we glean from the few chapters we have been given that Nesta had always been set in this cruelty campaign against Feyre? Certainly not against Elain.

SJM has said that Feyre isn’t perfect and has made mistakes (mistakes that we haven’t seen but exist in their shared past) I don’t see it as fair to suggest that Nesta needs to do more than she already has for Feyre. Short of risking her life and defending her family, what else is there?

Above all, Feyre has said in ACOFAS, Nesta has more than made up for everything and that she’s already forgiven her. So really, it’s certain half of the fandom (and Rhysand) that hasn’t.

I’m genuinely curious, do you think Elain has anything to atone for? Or are her actions enough that she she has balanced the scale?

I don’t understand why people keep saying Nesta is 24. Or calling her a girl. That’s a whole ass adult where I come from. Nesta was around 22-23 when the series started. A lot of these issues began much earlier, when she was a teenager, but… she’s still an adult. I don’t think it does her much credit to infantilize her character in order to excuse her behavior. She can vote, and drink, and rent a car in the US. She could be married for a few years, be a parent a couple times over. (You didn’t call her a girl anon, obviously, I’m just commenting on things I’ve seen in the fandom.)
