This might just be a *me* thing, but I do find it kind of fascinating that almost every Feminist Greek Myth Retelling seems compelled to flatten Helen into a two-dimensional basic-bitch with no guilt or remorse for her actions despite the fact that self-loathing for her own beauty, a feeling of a lack of agency in the face of Aphrodite's whims and a complicated affection for and loyalty to both the Greeks and the Trojans are all major characteristics of hers in both The Odyssey and The Iliad. I'm sure this has nothing to do with the dynamics of modern feminism and patriarchy whatsoever.

The Women of Troy - Romania
Tumblr media
A daring and timely feminist retelling of The Iliad from the perspective of the women of Troy who endured it—an extraordinary follow up to The Silence of the Girls from the Booker Prize-winning author of The Regeneration Trilogy.

I felt as I used to do, as a very young girl, that the wind was the breadth of a god filling me with life.

Book review: The Women of Troy & The Silence of Girls by Pat Barker
Tumblr media
Rating:
The Women of Troy: 3⭐️
The Silence of Girls: 3⭐️
These retellings won't please everybody. Everyone has their own opinion/version and, after all, the Iliad is also one side of the story. And lately we've had many different versions from the female point of view.
In this case, both books tell us the story of Briseis. In the first book she tells the story from before, and right up untill the end of, the war of Troy; in the second one we have the aftermath of the war, and how everyone is handling it, or being handled with.
Briseis is our narrator, but sometimes we have the male point of view, although she tells every female story. And as such, through their silence she releases their pains.

Andromache :(
So this qoute is from a book about the french revolution by Chevalier Nicolas de Maistre, and the full thing is ;
" I was a queen, and you dethroned me. I was a wife, and you killed my husband. I was a mother, and you tore me from my children. Only my blood remains: you are thirsty. Drink it. Hasten to meet it that you may drink it."
