I’ve been thinking about the unsatisfying ending of The Wizards of Once, but I still think it’s very interesting from a narrative perspective.

For one, the death of Caliburn instead of Wish is treated almost as a deal with fate rather than a cheap subversion. It promised a death, and Caliburn must die to save Wish.

Again, the tragedy being handed off to another mythos, while feeling unsatisfying, almost leaves the series with a somber tone. In the same vein as its predecessor series, it ends before the conclusion where the heroes have failed. While they have won for now, the children celebrating together today will be at eachother’s throats tommorow. Their kingdom, while great, will not last forever, torn apart by their actions, as they are fated to do for all of time. Their story does not have a happy ending. Even if they were to prevail, the dragons are in hiding, and magic will have to leave through the Which Ways. Even if they could solve their problems on Earth, even the highest powers in the universe are seeded with corruption and lies.

But for now, all is well. And if it doesn’t end well, then it isn’t the end.

So we must leave them there, sleeping under the stars.

That moment when they bodyswap and Bodkin has the sudden realisation that Xar is in crippling pain all the time because of his hand but still tries to joke around and make people laugh and he literally never mentions that the whole time he's in agony.

Sychorax Ferrouhg’s office was not what Hamish had expected it to be. From his overall impression of her, he figured she would be the type to keep her space barren and cold, like those showrooms at furniture stores that had about the same amount of personality as a dentist’s office; so when she opened the door and gestured for him to step inside, he was surprised to find the space to be rather whimsical. The walls were plain white, but they were peppered by shelves of potted plants, books and trinkets of all shapes and sizes littered about the place. Rows and rows of jars encasing bones and feathers were stacked at against the wall, and Hamish spotted more jars tucked into the corners of bookcases all over the room, ones that looked like they contained dead animals suspended in clear liquid. “Please, sit,” Sychorax gestured to a seat in front of the desk. Hamish sat. “Wait here, I will be back in just a moment, she said. And with that she left the room. You’re just going to leave me here unsupervised? Hamish had no intention of doing anything that might get him into even more trouble than he was already, but he felt like on principle, leaving a teenage student alone in a private office was generally not recommended.  A flutter of movement from the corner of his eye.  Hamish looked up. In the back corner of the room there stood a wide cage. In it, a large white parrot perched. It cocked its head to the side and raised its feathered crest. Hamish looked away instantly. Those eyes glittered with an unsettling kind of intelligence. Okay, maybe I’m not entirely unsupervised, he thought. He sat up straight in his chair and whistled a tune in a way that he hoped seemed absentminded. It probably didn’t...

Wizards of Once

Another fandom I wanted to make art of, so might as well share it here.

The wizards of Once by Cressida Cowell, I felt like a kid again reading these books, truly recomend it if you like fantasy books.

Also, I can't believe that my little joke of comparing The Wizards Of Once to Murder Drones would be so accurate, at least to the sheer amount of main characters just dying and then getting up as if they only got hit with a softball and not a nuke

Again, I'd love to see a Wizards of Once movie. I'd love to see an opening narration that introduces the Darkwood and how wild and dangerous it is ("more dangerous than the Warriors?" "Oh, please, this place eats warriors for breakfast.") and how even the prettiest looking flower could be hiding a nasty secret. As the narrator says that last remark, the screen focuses on a very pretty but suspiciously jaw-shaped flower (with an X the color of witchblood displayed prominently on the petals because I like my foreshadowing to be extremely on the nose), and a bumbling, fuzzy little... flying creature buzzing on top of it to admire it. Xar swings in from offscreen and catches the baby sprite just as the petal-jaws start closing around it. Xar is revealed to be the narrator when he says "...But you don't have to be afraid of any of that! Because I'm the leader, and I, Xar son of Encanzo, can protect you from anything!"

i once had a dream where i was with xar and camicazi and it was the most epic and scary dream ever. choas everywhere i loved it.

Hi everyone! Just figured I'd come on and say I have to unfortunately stop using this account. I've gotten a new phone and I don't remember the password to this account so I won't be able to log in on my new phone. I've tried changing my password and the email attached to this account but you need your password to change those which I do not have. I'm sure there's a solution to this but I honestly just figure making a new account will be easier.
