My personal theory is that it was originally a Dutch vessel.

They were one of the four major powers in the colonies (with England, Spain and France), and of the drawing I find of 18th century ships, the Dutch ones are the most similar, especially when looking at the quarterdeck design.

as an intermittent Adventures in Wonderland blog it saddens me deeply to have learned that Ken Page has died. 2024 really isn't pulling any punches right now.

I loved him as Oogie Boogie, but I loved him more as the Walrus. Walrus, with his invisible friend Pinniped and his jovial voice, completely stole my heart from his first appearance on the show, and I wished there were more Walrus episodes because I found him a totally lovable and entirely comforting character, and I will always be grateful to Ken Page for bringing such life to the role.

I made this oil painting to accompany a story by Annie Hylton about Canada's shameful actions in the genocide of Indigenous people and a community's search for their missing graves. It's not my story to tell but I'm honoured to help tell it anyways in a small way.
