We had the 7th winter in the middle of Spring just recently and what's better way to embrace the weather than helping out the folks at the studio I work at by cosplaying as Osmo from their show 'The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti' to promote their new released book! It was painfully cold without wearing any winter gears, but it was still fun to do this and worth the experience! It was sweet to see some folks on the street recognized the characters and asked for photos too. More photos and videos here!

Today, we dedicate the memory of writer Reid Williams Harrison, who died on January 15, 2024.

I know him for his collaborations on The Simpsons and The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti. He was also a supervising producer for Disenchantment, and also wrote scripts for episodes of shows like Pinky and the Brain and Duckman.

A compilation of the newest animated series targeted at junior audiences.

-  The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti, by Zodiak Kids Studio France, is a comedy series set in a quirky little town above the Arctic Circle, where it is winter all-year-round, and monsters are strictly forbidden. 

-  Santiago of the Seas, from Nickelodeon, follows the adventures of eight-year-old Santiago Montes, a kind and brave junior pirate who searches for treasures along with his friends. 

- Big Blue, by Guru, follows sibling underwater adventurers Lettie and Lemo who lead a quirky submarine crew with a magical ocean fairy stow away named Bacon Berry, while they explore and protect the denizens of a vast ocean-covered planet. 

- Dorg Van Dango, by Cartoon Saloon, about a normal kid named Dorg who finds his life turned upside down when he befriends several paranormal characters (a cool unicorn, an ancient witch and an eerie ghost) and tries to disguise them as regular teenagers. 

-  Ada Twist, Scientist, from Netflix, about a young Black scientist who will explore helping people through scientific discovery, collaboration and friendship.

Obscure Animation Subject #1: The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti

A series created by Anttu Harlin and Joonas Utti that was written by Simpsons writer Reid Harrison for the first half of season 1 and Spidey and His Amazing Friends writer Baljeet Rai for the second half.

I have talked about this before but it really needs more intention as it was the first Finnish show for Disney. It was also directed by co-creator Joonas Utti and premiered on May 14, 2022 on Disney Channel France, July 1, 2022 on Yle Areena Finland and Q4 2022 on Disney+ UK.

In the series, 12-year-old surfer boy Osmo is forced to leave his old life behind when he moves with his father to Winterton, a fictional village north of the Arctic Circle, where it snows all year round. Osmo and his cousin Rita meet a yellow yeti, named Gustav.

The village has plenty of strict rules, including a ban on monsters. Rita's father, Roman Chrome, the village mayor, hates monsters. In order to hide from him, Gustav dresses up in different disguises. The series features a lot of Finnish culture and references.

The main themes of the series are friendship and rebelling against the rules. The first season finale aired in France on December 18, 2022, and the show hasn’t been renewed yet, but if you want it to last longer, I recommend checking out as the show is calming and has heart.

It’s the first day of winter! I think drawing the main characters from The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti and its wintery setting is perfect for the occasion ! Hopefully I’ll see the series in the U.S. soon!
