I have been a fan of The Lemonheads ever since I saw them on The Word playing a cover of Simon and Garfunkels Mrs Robinson. Since then I have seen them twice. This is the second time I have seen Evan Dando solo (the last time being when he played 2003 Leeds Festival in support of Baby I'm Bored.)

My initial plan was to go to Leeds and combine the gig with a city break. However the tickets sold out and I decided to have go to Stoke. When i got the the venue Mr Dando himself was outside on a skateboard! He obliged me with a selfie.

The gig itself was shambolic and chaotic but entertaining. It is obvious that his voice is not what it was and whilst he does claim to be "clean" his behaviour was at time erratic. However he was in a room of die hard fans who lapped it up. He even finished in the middle of the crowd singing Frank Mills acapella.

I feel I must say a few words about the venue. The sound was excellent, the beer reasonably priced (£5.50 for a pint of Beavertown Neck Oil) and the staff friendly. I would go to see a band at The Sugarmill again.

Massacre Evidence Discovered at Former Governor's Sugar Mill

  Government operatives have seized personal items belonging to suspects in the March 4 murder of Governor Roel Degamo and eight others at a sugar mill compound in Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental, Thursday evening, the Joint Task Force Negros (JTFN) said. The items were found with the use of a backhoe on the premises of the HDJ-Bayawan Agri-Venture Corp. Tolong in Barangay Caranoche, Sta. Catalina, reportedly owned by former Negros Oriental governor Pryde Henry Teves. The recovered items included burned clothes, identification cards, automated teller machine cards, and assorted documents that reportedly belonged to some identified suspects. Also found were one silencer, one soldering iron, rifle cleaning paraphernalia, empty slugs of .45 caliber, a Swiss knife, and a tacker used for target papers. The latest discovery was part of the continuous operations led by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) with the help of the JTFN composed of soldiers and the police. The series of raids started on March 24, after a Mandaue court judge issued a search warrant. During the raids, operatives seized several high-powered firearms, explosives, and thousands of rounds of ammunition within the premises of the sugar mill. The former governor said while he is the president of the company, he only owns 10 percent of it and it has five other incorporators. Meanwhile, Teves voluntarily surrendered some firearms and ammunition to the police on Thursday, a day after he filed a waiver at the Hall of Justice here, allowing authorities to search his phone and bank accounts. The former governor is the younger brother of suspended Third District Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr., who has been tagged by the Department of Justice as one of the masterminds in the killing of Degamo and eight others.   Sources: THX News & Philippine News Agency. Simon Cowell in on the hunt for the next One Direction – but STONE frontman Fin Power has very much rejected his invite to audition (never mind the fact he’s already in a killer band).

STONE’s Fin Power has shared his emphatic response to an apparent invite to audition for Simon Cowell’s new boyband talent show.

Of course, Fin is already the vocalist/guitarist in a brilliant group as it is – who are in fact releasing their debut album Fear Life For A Lifetime on July 12.

And he’s taken to TikTok to very publicly reply to the representatives for the London mogul and TV personality, rejecting their invite for a new The X Factor / Britain’s Got Talent-type hunt for the next One Direction.

“I got this message from someone on behalf of Simon Cowell,” Fin explains in a TikTok video, sharing that it says that “singers around the age of 16-18 years old” are being scouted “for a new boyband, which is being filmed as part of a potential televised documentary following him on his search”.

In response, Fin has just this to say: “’Tell Simon Cowell to go fuck himself. Team 1D.’”

Walking away after hitting send on his phone, he adds: “No other reply my friend, no other reply.”

The caption to the video also reads: “I want nothing to do with [Simon] Cowell’s scheme Team 1D. Thanks for thinking I look 6 years younger tho.”

It was worth getting down to The Sugarmill early as the support acts where supurb. Ella Raphael initially played an Autoharp before inviting her guitarist to accompany her for the remainder of the set. Juanita Stein later delighted those waiting for the headline act with her country tinged indie folk. Both where a little put out by the amount of dry ice being emitted. I do regret not buying merch.

Sugarmill Woods Expo March 21 Citrus County Promotes EPA's "Fix a Leak Week" March 18-24 As part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ongoing We’re for Water campaign,this year’s Fix a Leak Week continues to encourage Americans to help put a stop to the nearly 1 trilliongallons of water wasted from household leaks each year. Sponsored by EPA’s WaterSense ® program, Fix a Leak Week is March 18 through 24, 2024. In supportof We’re for Water, Citrus County is promoting finding and fixing residential leaks. “Most homes lose nearly 10,000 gallons of water to leaks every year. That is enough water to serve theaverage home for an entire month,” said Debra Burden, Citrus County Department of Water Resources,water conservation manager. “Fix a Leak Week is an annual reminder for citizens to be responsiblewater stewards by finding and repairing leaks.” For residents that purchase water from a utility, an easy first step is to use the meter to check for leaks.Begin by turning off all water using fixtures inside and outside the home. Then, locate the water metertypically found near the road and write down the water use numbers. Finally, wait 15 minutes withoutusing any water and write down the numbers again. If the numbers change, a leak is likely present andfurther investigation is needed. To find leaks, citizens should check, twist, and replace: - Check for leaks. Look for dripping faucets, showerheads, sprinklers, and other fixtures. Also check toilets for silent leaks by putting a few drops of food coloring into the tank, waiting 10 minutes, and seeing if color appears in the bowl before you flush. Don’t forget to check irrigation systems and spigots too. Toilet leak detection tablets available at the Lecanto Government building. - Twist and tighten faucet, hose and pipe connections. To save water without a noticeable difference in flow in your bathroom, twist on a WaterSense labeled faucet aerator. - Free showerheads and aerators available to county citizens at the Lecanto Government building. - Replace the fixture if necessary. Look for WaterSense labeled models, which are independently certified to use 20 percent less water and perform as well as or better than standard models. - In many cases, fixture replacement parts pay for themselves quickly and can be installed by handy do-it-yourselfers or local plumbing professionals. The Citrus County Utilities also offers a free one-time irrigation system checkup and training to its account holders. Call 352-527-7669 to schedule an appointment.
