August 4: The Pope's Exorcist (2023)
Vanquishing demons with the Power of Friendship!
I was so sure that the cute little priest was done for, but that's because I forgot that Russell Crowe's characters all have friends and are good friends. Okay, that is probably too sweeping a generalization given the numerous characters he's played throughout his career, but it does happen a lot!
I like exorcism movies generally, and I liked this one more than most, largely because of the lovability Crowe brings to so many of his characters. This is a buddy comedy with priests instead of cops (a vast improvement in my opinion.) Ya'll just need to be prepared for how cliche and obnoxious the demon is, though. I really cannot stress this enough.

So Yeah we went to see the new Russell Crowe horror movie The Pope's Exorcist We seen the trailers for this and thought it might be good and I would have to say I personally like Russell Crowe. So We went to see it and I would have to say as far as exorcism movies go this was pretty good we did enjoy it.
Now apparently this is Inspired by the true story of Father Gabriele Amorth who was the Chief Exorcist of the Vatican and we went around doing apparently Thousands of exorcisms and wrote a bunch of books about his experiences (which I'm told are very good) and this movie is loosely based off one of this stories.
Its not overly scary at least I didn't think it was there was some nice kinda creepy moments and this movie does have a really nice atmospheric horror feel to it. It was I think really suspenseful it kept you interested I don't think I would want to live in that church/castle were the movie takes place you'll be constantly jumping at shadows for sure! but it does have some really nice camera work and cinematography that was all really good.
I felt like it had great acting especially from Russell Crowe he was an absolute joy to watch in this I love him on screen he take this character very serious and yet has alot of fun with him and even alot of the funny moments in this movie come from Russell Crowe also Peter DeSouza-Feighoney who plays Henry the boy who get possessed in the movie did excellent and apparently this is his first Hollywood movie and he was great in it. Also everyone else was amazing too. The make-up and visuals were great in this too and so were the stunts and the music and score fit it as well now were I thought this movie was very good and in the way that it ended it almost sets it up as a series and I could see that happening were it becomes something similar to The Conjuring which wouldn't be a bad thing being I do enjoy the The Conjuring Movies/Universe I could see this one getting a second and maybe a third if everything goes well with it. So yeah I would recommend giving this a watch if you want a lil bit of fun spookiness before the summer.

One day Father Candido was expelling a demon. Toward the end of the exorcism, he turned to the evil spirit and sarcastically told him, “Get out of here. The Lord has already prepared a nice, well-heated house for you!” At this, the demon answered, “You do not know anything! It wasn’t he [God] who made hell. It was us. He had not even thought about it.” Similarly, on another occasion, while I was questioning a demon to know whether he had contributed to the creation of hell, I received this answer: “All of us cooperated.”

Pope's Exorcist (2023)
Just released from theatres to stream today!
⭐️⭐️⭐️.85/5
😱😱😱.5/5
The Vasquez family moved into the diocese that was inherited by their family through the father, who had recently passed away about a year ago. The mother Julia fixes up old homes for a living and so seems to be relishing in these tasks , but not so much her kids. It is an older building that you can tell has been in the family for many generations, and probably has many stories inside its walls. However, as the film goes on you soon find out that that’s not the only thing that is inside these walls.
Russell Crowe’s take on the chief exorcist of the Vatican, Father Amorth is honestly so riveting throughout this picture. You can tell he really gets into the character and loses himself in the process. Which really shows how great of an actor he is. This is the first time I’ve seen him play such a powerful character and to see his range of emotions is definitely something that no one should miss.
I would also like to commend Zoë Gibney and the entire makeup team under her which I do not do often. The make up work in this film is honestly one of the best I’ve seen of 2023, a close second to Evil Dead Rise. (Look for this review soon) you can tell they really took their time with the cosmetics to make it as realistic as possible to what they were trying to portray.
The history of the Catholic Church, and how they deal with exorcisms in this feature to my knowledge, was done very well. The only criticism I would give this film would be the ending, which I will not give away. Thus this was the only thing that stopped it from being a four out of five stars. Nonetheless, this film was a nonstop great watch that really kept you on the edge of your seat.

Based on a real priest. Other than Crowe, there are no big names involved with this picture. No previous credits to suggest this is going to be good, but I still am hoping.

The Pope’s Exorcist (2023)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
The Pope’s Exorcist has multiple scenes with lightning at night, all of which use extreme strobes, with each scene starting without warning. Flickering lights are used in multiple supernatural scenes, including one that already has lightning strobes. The strobe lights on an emergency vehicle are shown immediately after an explosion.
All of the camera work in this film is either stationary or very smooth, but there are some brief, creative camera angles that may be mildly disorienting.
Flashing Lights: 10/10. Motion Sickness: 2/10.
TRIGGER WARNING: Demonic possession occurs through most of this film, and is depicted with convulsions and unnatural contortions. One character starts gagging and regurgitates a disturbing object, and an old man in a hospital suddenly vomits blood moments after having an oxygen mask removed from his face. Two animals are killed on-screen. Religious characters praise each other for holding on to guilt.

I love an exorcist/exorcism movie. A little bit of reality mixed with theatrics and demonology.
They're like always Solomonic magic with a Catholic bent. Esoteric and spooky with a lot of creative swearing. My kind of entertainment.
Should note: one of the producers is a Jesuit priest and film producer Fr. EDDIE SIEBERT.
So there's a subplot that says the devil was to blame for the Spanish Inquisition.
I may elaborate in detail later.
