So, after the apple fell on Newton's head, and he was then interrupted by Tenthree and Donna who told him the stupid gravity pun and then fucked off, Newton returned to his tree and found Four in it. He then told Four to get out of his tree and went to dinner with him, whereupon Four explained gravity to him. Which should have counteracted the "mavity" thing, unless Four just heard it and decided to go along with it.
#doctor who#fourth doctor#donna noble#tenthree#the pirate planet#wild blue yonder#and all that's ignoring the fact that 'gravity' existed as a word before newton described physical gravity#so the whole mishearing thing is batshit ridiculous in the first place#but it's doctor who so...

Doctor who hot take incoming. A lot of people are like, “Doctor who has always been left where the heck did all these conservative complainers come from? I bet they’re fake fans,” and while I do understand this sentiment, I also think new who does have a more conservative bent in some areas than classic. This is an American perspective so take it with a grain of salt.
In s2’s tooth and claw, the Doctor and Rose, with help from Queen Victoria herself, fight a werewolf in one of the queen’s castles in Scotland and the Koh-i-Noor diamond saves the day.
Meanwhile in classic who s16’s the Pirate Planet, the Doctor, Romana, and K9 find a planet that travels across the universe pillaging and capturing other worlds all to prop up/extend a nearly dead queen’s life and increase her power. They save the day by destroying the bridge, as in what is controlling and allowing the planet to move like this, and the queen herself.
In new who, the spoils of colonialism and imperialism save the day.
In classic who, destroying the mechanisms of colonialism and imperialism saves the day.
I’m not saying this was an intentional shift. But it is noticeable and why I think some conservatives have gravitated towards New Who specifically.
And I realize the counter argument is that this is s2, there are 11 other seasons you can look at where they grew past this. But based on what I’ve seen so far I’m honestly not sure about that. (I just finished Hellbent) But that’s a whole other argument that can be saved for another time. My point is that in new who’s most popular era, the 10th Doctor, this is the subtext, intentional or not. And I am not trying to say classic who is some bastion of leftism. My point is more there is a nationalist bent in new who. So it’s not a stretch to see why it’s got conservative fans.

The original US DVD covers for S16 stories are so bad they’re hilarious, they really committed to the Key to Time fragment graphics and left the rest to a compositional formula that never looks good once

The Pirate Planet The Doctor and Romana learn the second segment of the Key to Time is on the planet Calufrax. Yet they arrive on a planet called Zanak, which has been hollowed out and fitted with hyperspace engines, allowing its insane, half-robot Captain to materialise it around smaller planets and plunder their resources.
Under the Lake/Before the Flood Arriving on an underwater base under attack, it's up to the Twelfth Doctor and Clara to save the frightened crew. But also onboard is an alien spaceship, and the base is being haunted by the most impossible of things.
The Doctor's deepest beliefs are challenged when he encounters something he cannot explain. Can it really be possible? Can ghosts be real?
A twisted and vile survival plan is pieced together by an alien warlord called the Fisher King. The universe will feel the consequence. Can these events be stopped? Can the Doctor ensure the future's coming and do the impossible?

Greetings once again!
I have made an edit to one of my favorite songs concerning a specific intended lore drop made by the man himself, Douglas Adams. Writing the classic Who episode, The Pirate Planet, the original intention was to make the villainess of said story, Queen Xanxia (pronounced Zanzia), be revealed as The Masters' daughter later on. Now, with Missy having mentioned her, with a dark star alloy broach, I easily saw the connection as to his intent for making not just The Doctor suffer. Also displays quite a bit of how The Doctor can, even if accidental, be a MASSIVE hypocrite.
Honestly, the first song edit I've done, and I'm super proud of it.
Song: Children Go Bang by Nekromantiks
Album: The Gothic Sounds of Nightbreed Vol. 1 (I actually recommend the entire album. It's even on YouTube)

I don't know if it's that he hadn't decided on the character but I like the idea that she doesn't know whether she's doing it because she loves him or hates him. I don't think the master ever knows why he does anything either.
the final story feels so much like a direct sequel to the deadly assassin, with the queen building herself a new body and the doctor comparing it to regeneration.

Galactic Gazetteer: Qualactin
Location: Qualactin Zones, Mutter's Spiral
Mentioned in: The Pirate Planet; The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy (both 1978)
Fun fact: one of only two sources of the mineral oolian, along with Bandraginus V.
Another fun fact: source of Qualactin Hypermint, the extract of which is an essential ingredient of the legendary cocktail the Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster.
