[FogFest 2023] A Terrifying & Tasty Evening with The Phlegm Fatales
Just like last year, The Phlegm Fatales—in all their strange, sultry, and wonderfully weird glory—graced FogFest 2023 with their presence. This time it wasn’t so much a scripted show as it was a lip-sync extravaganza (work, bitch!) with songs and performances inspired by the creepy, the crazy, and the horrific. Each member of The Phlegms took to the stage for a few numbers, apart from

I absolutely love your writing, I am obsessedd! Could you do a story where yn is in a car crash (or something along those lines), and then a scared Lando? And I would love you even more if yn doesn't immediately wake up or immediately is ok
Kissess
Is it mentally ill for me to love this trope?
What Died Didn’t Stay Dead (LN4)
Summary: Y/n’s close to fatal car crash and the epiphanies that followed.
Warnings: detailed depictions of a car crash, mentions of death, lots of angst, happy ending
Note: GUESS WHO’S BACK AND READY TO WRITE OVER THE SUMMER
There was a distant memory of Lando going ninety in a forty-five as Y/n drove his McLaren to work. Her hands on the wheel and mind elsewhere, she giggled to herself when the image of him pouting at a ticket and its astronomical price sat in the forefront of her mind.
“Could you, for one second, respond to what I’m saying?” The voice of her boss rang through the car’s speakers.
Y/n rolled her eyes. She hated this woman. “I am responding to you. I just have nothing more to say.”
The woman coughed on the other side of the phone, phlegm prominent in the sound, “What you need to generally understand here is that we, as a company and a branch, cannot have you dating someone with such a high profile. Especially when he continually goes against vehicle regulations and laws. We are a law firm, Y/n. One that helps clients who have been involved in car accidents. Lando Norris, Formula One Driver and known speeder, dating someone who handles cases such as ours.”
Y/n nodded to herself, “I get that, Ann. But, I don’t know what you want me to do? You can’t fire me due to my personal relationships and you can’t demand me to separate from him. This is an empty issue, which you have brought to my attention without a concise and cohesive solution. When you can figure out a way for me to continue to date my partner and keep my job as it is without this supposed issue, come to me. But, for right now, it sounds as though this is empty complaining.”
Ann scoffed, “Between me and you, Y/n, it would be in your best interest to part ways with Lando Norris.”
Speechless and shocked, Y/n’s eyes averted to the screen with Ann’s name and number presented. She couldn’t believe the suggestion, much less the blatant disregard for professionalism. With the massive distraction, she failed to see the aggressive driver approaching her right in the rear view mirror.
A sentence she began to speak fell short when the car attempted to move into her lane, one that had no more space to accommodate his large truck. He hit her front bumper with such force she spun out into oncoming traffic. With the rush hour and the lack of free area to miss an out of control car, the McLaren was smashed to pieces after being hit at every angle and every speed.
The shredded mound of parts smacked the shoulder of the road, ending its violent rampage. Ann stayed quiet on the other side of the call, having heard Y/n’s screams and the dwindling of them as crunching metal continued on.
“Y/n?” She whispered into the speaker, but there was no answer.
—
“Oscar! That’s not the way you do it!” Lando screeched, looking at the phone screen and the comments popping up in outrage over the way Oscar was trying to mold his car.
The Australian just scrunched his nose at Lando, “I do things the way I want to!”
Raging laughter from Lando met the ears of everyone watching the stream just as Oscar’s clay car fell apart moments after he uttered his rebuttal.
His pale hands came up in defense, “How was I supposed to know?!”
Lando just continued laughing, “‘I do things the way I want to!’ Dumbass.”
Oscar scoffed and the words formed on his lips just as the door burst open. Adam stood at the threshold, eyes red and phone clutched to his ear as he stared at his son.
“Lando.” He said, his voice breaking.
Maybe it was the tone or the fact the syllables couldn’t quite leave his mouth because of the sobs emitting from him. Lando thought it had to have been the look on his father’s face, the pain etched into his eyes and his soul, that told me what he needed to know.
HIs face dropped, remnants of laughter completely destroyed by the suggestion of Adam’s sorrow. Lando grabbed the jacket off the back of his chair and in a haze, he muttered, “Is she dead?”
Part of him wished Adam would’ve given him a definite answer. Part of him thought the answer yes would’ve been better than the I don’t know he was given.
I don’t know meant Y/n was almost there. I don’t know meant Y/n was fighting for her life and what everyone knew her to be. He hated the idea she was fighting for the existence of her memory and the achievements he knew she was bound to make in the future.
When they left the room, running to the car outside and waiting for them, Lando hated the idea that Y/n was fighting for the future they had always wished to share together. Marriage, kids, settling down, and going gray with her was almost completely out of his reach and that dread prompted the vomit that spewed from his mouth into his backpack as they rode to the hospital.
—
Lando’s phone blew up so much, he had to shut it off, so the silence he was forced to endure in the chair of the hospital’s waiting room was brought about unwillingly.
At that point, his nails had been bitten so far down, he was bleeding. Blood only spurred the picture of Y/n dosed in it as she was lifted from his wrecked car.
The insurance company and McLaren had both agreed it was very clearly not Y/n’s fault and they would cover the cost of his beloved, customized McLaren.
Beloved.
He thought it had been funny when one of the McLaren engineers had said that to him, promising his “beloved” car back to its original state. Funny because “beloved” didn’t describe how he felt about that car. He loved that car. It was everything to him. He remembered getting the car, feeling as though his life had changed completely for the better with the presence of this beauty in his life. He cherished it, he took care of it, that car would always hold a piece of his heart.
Then he realized that the sentimental thoughts he was having surrounding the car was just an allegory for Y/n.
He loved Y/n. She was everything to him. He remembered meeting her, feeling as though his life had changed completely for the better with the presence of her beauty in his life. He cherished her, he took care of her, she would always hold a piece of his heart.
Losing her was not an option. It never would be.
Please, to anyone out there, do not take her from me, he pleaded out to the emptiness of the universe. An empty universe that was trying to take his happiness from him. A cruel universe that was trying to strip the world of her impact.
Please was the only word on his mind when the doctor appeared from behind the swinging doors that led to the operation rooms. A tired look on his face was warranted for the hours of work he had just put into trying to save Y/n’s life.
He stopped in front of Adam and Lando, his tall frame making them stand up. On wobbling legs, Lando began to cry.
”Please tell me she’s going to be okay. You have no idea who she is, what she has done. Please, Y/n has gone and could continue to go so far. This cannot be it for her. She has so much left to do. Please, tell me-”
“Lando,” The doctor interrupted, his hand on his shoulder as a comfort, “Her injuries were extensive, but she pulled through. The recovery will be long and painful, but there’s no permanent damage. She’s incredibly lucky and one of the strongest people I have ever helped.”
A loud sigh of relief left Lando’s mouth, his body slinking down into the chair behind him. He held his head in his hands, his fingers clasped together as he said a silent prayer to a God he thought he didn’t believe in.
Thank you, he gave over and over in his mind.
—
“Do you think I could see her now?” Lando caught up with the doctor’s steps as he seemed to be rushing to another room.
The man stopped, turned to Lando, and then cocked his head. He stared at him for a moment with the wheels turning in his head.
A curt nod and smile had Lando rushing off to the room number he had made the nurse repeat back to him so many times just so he could memorize it for when the time was right.
Now was his time.
Pulling open the door, he stopped himself. He prepared himself for the battered and bruised Y/n he was bound to see. Lando’s mind flooded with vivid videos of her laughing, sleeping on his chest, looking at him like he had single-handedly given her the world and more. He wanted to remind himself of that Y/n, not the one he was about to see. She would always be the same to him and he knew she would come back to him, but, for the time being, he knew he would have to rely on the memories of her where she was truly electrictrified with life.
He finally stepped through and the sight of her in whatever comatose state they had put her in made his teary eyes leak.
His body fell into the chair by her bed, his hand coming to clutch hers. Her skin was cold when he brought it to his cheek, but the red tint to her cheeks was still there.
Her lungs falling up and down grabbed his attention, “Baby,” He breathed, “I love you.”
Silence responded and he continued, “When you wake up, I promise you I will not continue to make the cowardly decision of chickening out of asking you to marry me. I know you know I have the ring. That night when I came home to you elbow deep in my sock drawer was a dead giveaway. I know you know it’s taking me so long to gain the courage and I thank you for being patient, but I cannot go another waking moment with the idea floating around in my head that there is a possibility you will never share my last name. I need you to be a Norris if it is the last thing I do.”
Her body stayed in its place and her hand stayed still in his clutch, but he knew she was in there. She needed her rest, just as the nurses had explained to him and he agreed. The bruises on her face, the casts surrounding her body, he didn’t want her to wake up to this.
—
And she wouldn’t have to. When she woke up weeks later, the bruises had healed, the cuts had become skin once more, and the casts had dwindled down to one. Lando was there too when her eyes squinted open and she groaned out. Groggy and confused, Y/n’s face turned to Lando’s. The two met each other’s eyes and the rest was expected. The rushed words of gratitude, love, and adoration accompanied by Lando’s repeated statements for her to marry her were all seemingly written in the stars. Cliche, maybe, but the way they held each other in the soft sunlight of her hospital room, the now fiancĂ©es happened upon the thought that whatever was meant to happen was going to happen.
And they were meant to happen.

Magical & Non-Magical Healing in Thedas
Magical Healing
Most healing magic falls under the School of Creation, which is about manipulating natural forces of life. It is a school rarely studied by mages, as it requires more finesse than any other school.
While any mage can study the school of creation and learn to heal, it is Spirit Healers who have the strongest healing magic. Spirit Healers can call in spirits to rapidly heal someone’s body, be it from physical damage or through disease. It requires a special gift of working with spirits in this way, which is rare among mages.
Finally, blood magic is also capable of healing. Solas says, “I once saw a blood mage healer who would shed her own blood to close a patient's wounds,” in defence of blood magic. But the details of this form of healing is unknown.
The extent of what healing magic is capable of varies by the skill of the mage practitioner. In the Tevinter Nights story Three Trees to Midnight, Myrion says that while he only knows a little bit of healing magic and can just close Strife’s wounds, his friend Jasecca was a Spirit Healer who “once reattached a man’s hand after it had been chopped off.”
It’s possible that the average mage in Tevinter is taught at least a little bit of healing magic, as in Tevinter Nights’s The Streets of Minrathous, Neve Gallus is also able to use her magic to slow the flow of blood out her wound, despite claiming to not be a proper healer. This is just like Myrion’s limited abilities.
There are also objects imbued with magical properties capable of healing people. For example, in Herold Had the Plan from Tevinter Nights, Bharv’s amulet completely heals the scratches on his hand without so much as a scar, closes up the wound on his stomach, and even keeps him from dying over a fatal blow.
While magical healing is very useful, because of Chantry-propaganda against magic, there are some in Thedas who would rather suffer than accept magical healing. For example, when the Inquisitor arrives at The Crossroads in the Hinterlands, a soldier tells Mother Giselle not to let any mage touch him when she offers to fetch a healer. But this is not the universal opinion. In Kirkwall, the people of Lowtown and Darktown were willing to shelter and protect Anders as thanks for his healing them.
Non-Magical Healing
There are books found in game that have anatomical diagrams, meaning there is some form of studying the body:
Tumblr media
The most extensive evidence of what non-magical healing is like is from the Surgeon character found in Skyhold. The surgeon knows how to set broken bones, and also mentions doing amputations as a last resort. When asked how non-magical healing works, she replies, “good health isn't magic. It's diet, exercise and a balance of the humors.” She has many comments about bloodletting in particular:
“Hmm, somewhat off-colour today, Inquisitor? An excess of bile, perhaps. Might I bleed you?”
“Try not to touch the leeches. They are quite delicate.”
“Come for a bloodletting?”
Humorism was the real life historic belief that the body was made of four fluids: blood, black bile, yellow bile, and phlegm. Disease was believed to be caused by an imbalance of the humors, and so treatment was to “balance” the humors, often by bleeding the patient. This goes against the basics of germ theory also evidently believed in Thedas, so perhaps this surgeon is in fact out of date?
A note found in The Fallow Mire says, “The Gardners are too sick to save, everyone says. Grandfather and my brothers barricaded them in their own house so they wouldn't make anyone else sick.” This would suggest that the average person knows the basics of germ theory, at least to a degree that they know how diseases spread and how to prevent them through quarantine.
If you take Dorian to the Fallow Mire, he will comment, “At least in the city, you can find a decent healer. Out here you have, what? Roots and berries?” So, healers are not always available. In lieu of practicing healers, common folk turn to those who know about herbalism.
[RELATED POST: Canonical Herbalism in Thedas]
Additionally, there are a variety of folk remedies found across Thedas. For example, to cure a cold: “Bring a cup of whiskey to nearly a boil in a kettle, until its vapors permeate your surroundings. Add the juice of half a lemon and two peeled and crushed cloves of raw garlic. Consume before the whiskey cools.”

Hot Dog! (with everything)
I'm in the coughing and phlegm phase of this cold right now... so my brain is admittedly a bit fuzzy. Still, I'm trying my best to sort out my Chicago trip timeline of memories... bear with me.
In the morning we ventured out of the hotel to scare up some coffee, the Funny Bunny took me to the fanciest Starbucks that exists I think. It was like two or three stories and my latte was $10! Hahaha.
After hotel check out we walked a while down to Portillos where I had my first Chicago style hat dag! It was really good, we had 'em with fries. Check in at the AirBNB wasn't until 4:30 so we ended up going to the Funny Bunny's apartment to take this certified Good Baby out for a walk.
Tumblr media
I'd only previously ever seen her in pictures so it was great to meet this pupper in person finally. She is so cute. T^T
After getting settled at the AirBNB I think this was the night we went out to the new VeganX Market. I finally got to meet the Funny Bunny's partner (who I'll just refer to as "Bluey" for privacy purposes) who was kind enough to come pick us up. We checked out the little grocery store and picked up some vegan Kit-Kats which I was surprised to see since they're currently only sold in the UK... we didn't realize until after we bought them that they were crazy expensive, haha. Everything at VeganX was, I really hope they're able to lower their prices at some point otherwise it may be unsustainable!
They had a little food court where I got an Italian Beef and mozzarella sticks, everything was good! Vegan mozzarella sticks are always a rarity, haha. I really enjoyed getting to hang out with Bluey too, I really wish I'd had more time in Chicago to get to know them but fortunately we did get to hang out a few more times before I left. They might come out to Portland sometime too so that'll be fun. I'm extra appreciative that they were willing to drive us around so much.
The following day we went to the Field Museum and looked at lots of birds, rocks & gems and dinosaur bones. Being that I'm a bird nerd seeing all those specimens was my favorite part. I also got my first pic of the Adventures in Babysitting building!
Tumblr media
Childhood memories achieved! It was mad overcast that morning too, some of the skyscrapers disappeared into the fog...
Tumblr media
I think I brought the Portland weather with me, haha (and yes, we got hot dogs from that vendor).
After this we had a nice time in Chinatown and dinner at Veggie House. We met up with Bluey later for some awesome vegan soft serve at Vaca's. They had these bomb looking ice cream pies I really wanted to try but alas we didn't make it back there again before the end of my trip.
I can't recall if it was this night or the night before but we saw a motorcycle accident on the way back to the AirBNB... we discussed back and forth whether or not it was a fatality as the cycler was lying in the street. I think not because I swear I saw his hand moving but we couldn't find any news about it. We witnessed several (unrelated) car crashes and fender benders while walking around Chicago. Anything goes, I guess!
My city observations: How does Chicago compare to NYC (which I've spent a fair amount of time in) and downtown Portland? Chicago is a much cleaner city than either. While NYC as a whole smells like piss and hot garbage Chicago didn't have much of a smell other than city garbage every once in a great while. I was also thankful that there were many public restrooms and bonus they were fairly clean! Chicago definitely gets Jaymz's "Best City" award. *thumbs up*
Also, they have Ricochet Rabbit.

I have an ask I'm genuinely curious about and that you might also be able to speak to, given your other recent asks! I noticed in FE3H, in one of her support conversations, Hilda mentions metal allergies in the context of making jewelries. But.... I don't think allergies were known about at that time period? I'm curious how much this is an anachronism, if at all. Also can you even tell (as a person with a medieval history background) from context if there's a certain time or period that FE3H is trying to base itself in?
A lot of medical history is characterized by "well, they knew... but also they didn't." Basically: cause and effect, yes. Why something was cause, or something produced an effect, often not so much. Modern understanding of "allergies" only dates back to the mid-19th century, when it became more possible to use scientific advances to get a much more detailed idea of what and why. As far back as Ancient Egypt, and certainly documented extensively in Greek and Roman treatises, people knew that someone might have a negative reaction to something (whether it be a certain weather, foods, etc.), but not precisely why. Asthma and what we now call "hay fever," in particular, were well known (likely because they produced a clear pattern both of symptoms and causes, and didn't as often outright kill someone, like, say, am extreme allergy to foods or insect stings might). These things got worse in spring, plants are blooming in spring, there's something about plants causing this. But it wasn't until the 1800s that "pollen" could be truly tested as (one of) the culprit. You see the same in other areas of pre-modern medicine - things like "eating more red meat when showing weakness and easy bruising, because these are signs that your sanguine humor is out of balance." And it worked, because if those things were actually a sign of iron deficiency, and red meats are rich in iron, the effect was the same whether credit was given to vitamins or humors in balance: the symptoms got better.
Sooooo... I would assume an allergy to metal would certainly be recognized, because it would not have been fatal. I have a latex allergy - even if I didn't know that was what was causing it, I'd be able to see that if I slap a Bandaid on my arm and leave it too long, there are unfortunate results. đŸ€Ł So if someone had an allergy to, say, copper or iron, they might not refer to it as an allergy, but they would be able to recognize "wearing jewelry of this make = a bad time," and avoid it. So: knowing you have to be careful with jewelry? Oh, yeah! Calling it an allergy? Less likely, but I also understand not throwing at a casual audience "ah, yes, copper is clearly causing the phlegm to collect in your wrists, and you can only rebalance it with liberal application of aloe leaves boiled in mare's urine under the new moon in April" (where the actual effect was entirely down to the aloe, and, uh... horse pee should be optional). It's anachronistic to be certain of why it was happening, but not to know such things happened to some people and how to avoid them (plus the horse pee). I'll let them have that one, especially since it means there isn't a monastery activity of "collect pegasus urine and boil it with blood collected from Sylvain's skull after Ingrid finally bashes it in." 😅
As for the time period - it says it right in the game! I'm almost certain the 1100s was quite deliberately chosen for a number of reasons.
1. It was the High Middle Ages - when you ask someone about "Middle Ages," and what they think happened then, all the common answers (kings and knights, ecclesiastical law, Crusades, heresy, wars on massive scale both time-wise and place-wise, even stuff like Ivanhoe and Robin Hood and Joan of Arc and all that fun stuff) are in the High Middle Ages (roughly 1000-1300 AD). (Well, okay, Joan was a bit later, but not much. Also, it's worth remembering that "Middle Ages" did not mean uniform developments even within Western Europe - Italy was already running like hell towards the Renaissance while some extremes of the North were still crossing their arms and closing their eyes and refusing to leave their pagan religions behind until people convinced them that they could still have trees and eggs and shit, just now for Jesus!) So - "medieval," someone says? They probably mean 1100-ish, whether they know it or not.
2. That period also matches pretty neatly with the major powers that existed in Europe (and a bit beyond) at that time. Without going into detail of every mentioned land in 3H, if we just consider Adrestia, Faerghus, Leicester, and Garreg Mach, we can still find parallels. (Not always geographically, but definitely culturally.)
(And I'll say here that this is my interpretation only. I've seen others mention differences here, and I respect that too! Unless we're told, any speculation has validity. I'm also basing this on the period I studied in the most depth, including for my dissertation: the twelfth century. 1100s for me and for Three Houses!)
(I studied Peter Abelard. He and Edelgard would either get along beautifully, or she'd bash his head in before the day was out. But he definitely knew a thing or two about being declared a heretic and excommunicated. And teachers sleeping with students. Er... anyway...)
Garreg Mach is clearly the Papal States, what remained of the Western Roman Empire. I don't think anyone would argue with that.
Adrestia is almost certainly the Holy Roman Empire, and particularly the Empire under Henry IV and Henry V. The twelfth century was all about conflict over ecclesiastical versus royal law, and what was called the investiture controversy: does the church allow kings, or do the kings allow the church? What happens when an emperor and the papacy are in conflict? This pops up again and again during this time, but the particular parallels between the HRE and Adrestia become very clear when considering the reign of Henry V, who, from 1098 until his father's death, co-ruled the Holy Roman Empire. Sound familiar, if on a truncated scale? (Also, without going into great detail, there was already conflict between the papacy and the empire over which was truly "the Inheritance of Rome.") Henry V ultimately sided against his father and forced him off the throne (again, sound familiar to the way Adrestia is presented in any route except Crimson Flower?)... and then took the pope hostage (I assume I don't even need to say it again đŸ€Ł).
Without going into aaaaaaall the complicated shit that went down during the cage match between Henry and the popes, let's consider another fly in the ointment of FĂłdlan, and of Europe: Matilda.
And this, as you'll see, is why I think Faerghus is based on France and Norman England. Matilda was actually married to Henry V, not Henry IV, but her life has several very interesting parallels to a certain Anselma. (Even the name issue - she was either Maud or Matilda, depending on where and when she was!) Her father was Henry I of England (whose own claim to the throne was a little iffy - he probably had his brother, William Rufus, shot so he could claim both Norman France and England). Again without going into great detail, Henry managed to, amongst his MANY, MANY CHILDREN, only have two who were legitimate. One was William, who was heir presumptive. The other was Matilda, who was shipped off to marry Henry in the HRE.
Then - oops - a ship went down in the English Channel. The White Ship. It had William on it.
Oops again.
Well - now Henry had a problem. But he decided to make it a problem for after he died: he got Matilda back to England and made everyone swear they'd recognize her as the heir. Then he died. Then shit really went down.
Over in France, there was a guy named Stephen, whose mother was Adela, daughter of William the Conqueror. And he had a penis, and therefore would be a better ruler than Matilda, who was also a grandchild of William the Conqueror, but a stinky female one. So Stephen trotted off to England, called himself king, and he and Matilda spent several years having a slap fight, before they agreed that Stephen's heir would be Matilda's son, who became Henry II, and everyone else rolled their eyes and were thankful they could mostly ignore the idiots in charge, as they had already been doing through Celtic, Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Danish, and Norman rule, and essentially as most Brits still do to this day.
...And it's almost 9pm and I just realized I should probably have dinner. I'll get into Leicester tomorrow, but I think it's the Byzantine Empire, with Almyra being the near East/nascent Ottoman Empire. Watch this space! I can go into more detail on the others, too, if anyone is interested. Medieval shit is complicated. 😆

2035
It started with you coughing up some blood now and then. Not even a lot, just some bloody phlegm on occasion, then more and more as time went on. You’d made the mistake of mentioning it on WhatsApp to a friend. You didn’t know at the time but you’d triggered keywords in an AI algorithm which had been given access to your WhatsApp chats via a quiz you’d taken on Facebook 5 years ago. The AI determined you had a high likelihood of cancer and, knowing your income and general wealth of your family and social circles, had determined that it would be fatal.
The data was added to your online marketing profile and within days your insurance company was aware of your situation. Before you’d even had a formal diagnosis your insurance premium was completely unaffordable and you’d had to drop out of your coverage plan.
Months passed without a proper diagnosis. You could just about afford one with the money you’d saved by selling your car and walking to work but couldn’t afford the day off it would take to get to the hospital, so had to keep showing up to work. Eventually you collapse on the job and are taken to hospital unconscious and against your will. With no coverage you wake up in a hospital bed with a huge debt for the ambulance ride and preliminary treatment. The staff discharge you but recommended you see a physician immediately.
You receive a text from work, you’ve been fired for gross misconduct: leaving the premises without permission. You owe them 4 weeks wages back as compensation. You can’t afford to challenge the decision. With your debt now mounting seemingly by the minute you consider heading back inside and taking advantage of the hospital’s ‘End of Life Special’; offering your organs up to pay for their euthanasia service. As you download the MyPassing app you receive an email from a reality TV company.
-Congratulations! You’ve been selected to apply for Fox’s new series, ‘Chemo Island’ where you’ll be pitted against 99 other contestants to claim the grand prize, FULL cancer treatment and a clearing of ALL medical debts. In the application stage you’ll receive a free diagnosis and (if selected) during filming you’ll receive life extending drugs. The filming is expected to last 4-6 weeks (depending on your prognosis). Contestants must be physically fit enough to complete athletic and dexterity challenges. Click here for more information.-
You ponder it for a moment, standing in the cold outside the hospital, the plastic gown they charged you an extortionate amount for billowing in the wind, exposing your genitals to a passing police drone, which immediately issues you a charge for public indecency and a fine you can’t afford. Could you do it? Every contestant you‘d be pitted against would be fighting for their life, same as you. Winning would mean consigning 99 other people to their fate, losing would inevitably mean death. But, free diagnosis...
You click on the email and visit the site. They’re no longer accepting applications for Chemo Island, the website having been overrun within the first few hours. But there is another one, specifically for contestants with a criminal record, something you achieved only moments ago. A new game show where over the course of a night you’ll be forced to fight against a series of increasingly violent former wrestlers, sports stars and b-list Hollywood actors for a cash prize that would not only clear your debts, but maybe even have enough left over to pay for treatment.
You click to fill out the form and feel a little bit of hope. How bad could a game show called The Running Man even be?

Anxiety is terrible. Everyone is different but for me it’s increased heart rate, nausea, inability to sit still.
Today has been a really bad day, mostly bc I’m worried my dog is sick and when I called the emergency vet I was told “we have one doctor and they’re in surgery so if your dog doesn’t need to be seen within 30 minutes or it’s fatal, you’ll be waiting a long time”.
My dog goes off food every once in a while. Yesterday, he hurt his foot so he’s been limping; today he started licking and biting at it, then brought up some brown phlegm. And wouldn’t eat. All day.
He started eating and I’ve been sobbing for 20 minutes because I’m so fucking relieved.
Anxiety sucks.

Father Son Holy Gore Does FogFest 2022
As a film lover, a screenwriter, and a new filmmaker, I actually don’t love the everyday theatre experience; blasphemy, I know! The festival theatre experience is something far different—something much more beautiful and filled with community than paying for overpriced snacks just to listen to someone’s dad talk through half of a film on a Friday night. Grind Mind’s FogFest, now in its sophomore

FDA Approves Amgen’s Imdelltra for Deadly Lung Cancer
Source – fierce Pharma
Breakthrough Therapy Offers Hope for Small-cell Lung Cancer Patients
In a significant development for cancer treatment, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted approval to Amgen’s Imdelltra therapy, for patients battling the most fatal form of lung cancer. This approval marks a pivotal moment in the fight against advanced small-cell lung cancer, offering a glimmer of hope for those facing this devastating diagnosis.
Imdelltra: A New Ray of Hope
Amgen’s Imdelltra, formerly known as tarlatan, has been cleared by the FDA as a second or later line of treatment for patients with advanced small-cell lung cancer. This milestone allows patients to access the therapy when their cancer progresses despite undergoing other forms of treatment, typically chemotherapy. Clinical trials have shown promising results, indicating a reduction in tumor growth and a significant extension in patients’ survival rates.
Addressing a Lethal Disease
Small-cell lung cancer, accounting for approximately 15% of lung cancer cases worldwide, poses a formidable challenge due to its aggressive nature and rapid spread throughout the body. With symptoms including bloody phlegm, coughing, chest pain, and shortness of breath, the disease presents a dire prognosis, with only 3% of patients surviving beyond five years. Against this backdrop, Amgen’s Imdelltra offers a ray of hope, demonstrating tangible benefits for patients like Lynne Bell.
Personal Testimonies: Stories of Resilience
Lynne Bell, a small-cell lung cancer patient, shares her journey of hope and resilience after undergoing treatment with Imdelltra. Despite initial despair upon diagnosis, Lynne’s participation in a clinical trial involving Imdelltra has yielded remarkable results, with significant tumor reduction and an improvement in her overall condition. Similarly, Maida Mangiameli, a cancer advocate and survivor, underscores the importance of innovative therapies like Imdelltra in providing renewed hope for patients grappling with the disease.
Future Directions: Promising Prospects and Ongoing Research
As Amgen’s Imdelltra marks a significant breakthrough in small-cell lung cancer treatment, ongoing research endeavors aim to further expand its therapeutic potential. Clinical trials exploring Imdelltra’s efficacy as an earlier line of treatment and its comparison with chemotherapy are underway, offering prospects for enhanced treatment outcomes. With each step forward, Amgen and the medical community remain committed to advancing the fight against small-cell lung cancer, providing patients with renewed hope and improved survival rates.

Lung Cancer: 4 Early Warning Signs to Look Out For
Tumblr media
Lung cancer stands as the foremost cause of cancer-related fatalities globally, yet it remains one of the most treatable forms of cancer when identified at an early stage. Being one of the best cancer hospitals in Surat, we at BCI- Blood and Cancer Institute underscore the critical importance of recognizing the initial indicators of lung cancer and promptly seeking medical attention if you experience any of them.
The following are the four most prevalent early warning signs of lung cancer:
1) A new cough or alterations in an existing one: A persistent cough lasting beyond two weeks or any modification in an existing cough, including increased frequency, severity, or heightened phlegm production, may signal the presence of lung cancer.
2)Chest discomfort: Newly arising or changing chest pain, particularly when exacerbated by deep breathing, coughing, or laughter, should not be overlooked and may necessitate further investigation for lung cancer.
3)Breathlessness: Unexplained breathlessness, either new or deteriorating in nature, should be regarded as a potential indicator of lung cancer.
4)Wheezing: Wheezing, characterised by a high-pitched whistling sound during breathing, can be associated with various conditions, including asthma and allergies, but should also be evaluated as a possible sign of lung cancer.
Other warning signs of lung cancer include:
● Unexplained weight loss
● Fatigue
● Hoarseness
● Difficulty swallowing
● Blood in the sputum
● Clubbing of the fingers and toes
If you experience any of these early warning signs, it is imperative to consult a medical professional promptly. Timely medical evaluation is essential not only to rule out lung cancer but also to explore other significant underlying causes of these symptoms.
BCI — Blood and Cancer Institute, renowned as the premier cancer hospital in Surat, houses a team of accomplished cancer specialists who provide comprehensive cancer care services. Our offerings encompass a wide array of cancer screenings, including those for lung cancer, along with a range of treatment options, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
The Importance of Lung Cancer Screening
Early detection is the key to successful lung cancer treatment. Regular screenings are particularly important for individuals at higher risk, such as long-term smokers, former smokers, and those with a family history of lung cancer. Lung cancer often develops silently, and symptoms may not become apparent until the disease has advanced to a later stage. By the time symptoms manifest, the disease may be less responsive to treatment. Regular screenings can catch lung cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages.
If you are at high risk for lung cancer, your doctor may recommend that you get screened regularly with an LDCT scan.
You are at high risk for lung cancer if you:
● Smoke or have quit smoking in the past 15 years
● Are over the age of 55
● Have a history of lung disease, such as COPD or asthma
● Have a family history of lung cancer
If you are concerned about your risk of lung cancer, talk to our lung cancer specialist in Surat at BCI about lung cancer screenings and early detection. Lung cancer is a serious disease, but it is also one of the most treatable cancers if detected early.
We strongly encourage you to engage in discussions with your healthcare provider about lung cancer screenings and early detection. While lung cancer is indeed a formidable disease, its manageability substantially improves with early identification.
Here are some recommendations from our cancer specialist in Surat, for reducing your susceptibility to lung cancer:
Smoking Cessation: Smoking is the predominant contributor to lung cancer. If you are a smoker, quitting is the most significant step you can take for your well-being.
Avoid Secondhand Smoke: Exposure to secondhand smoke is another risk factor for lung cancer. Steer clear of environments where people are smoking.
Regular Checkups and Screenings: Consult your healthcare provider to determine the appropriate cancer screenings for your individual circumstances and the recommended frequency for these screenings.
By adhering to these guidelines, you can actively mitigate your risk of lung cancer and enhance your prospects of successful treatment and recovery.
Lung cancer is formidable, but with early detection, it becomes more manageable . At BCI — Blood and Cancer Institute, we are committed to providing comprehensive care and raising awareness about the significance of early screening. Our dedicated cancer specialist in Surat, stands ready to guide you through your lung cancer journey. Early detection saves lives, and with our state-of-the-art screening methods and the expertise of our medical team, we are here to support you every step of the way.
