#The Outcasted Mage - Fate AU

It was supposed to be a simple delivery. Daniel had been sent by his family to receive a bag from one of the Miller family contacts. However, as he travelled though the night, the young mage would feel himself getting stalked. This was a rather large city, so there was far more then a single mage family here. The fact that he was stalked was not surprising to Daniel…but what would be surprising was what happened next.

As he ducked into an alleyway to avoid the stalkers, he would run headfirst into a tall man! He stumbled back and fell on his ass! The impact of the fall had knocked the bag out of his hand. The contents inside spilled out onto the dirty ground, it was a cyan robe of Japanese design. The perfect catalyst. He was supposed to get it home for his sister, Iris, so that she might join the Holy Grail War, but that might not happen now.

As Daniel looked up at the man, he would scramble back, his heart began to thump harder, there was a dagger in the man’s hand...Daniel was not a strong mage, there was no way he would be able to win in a fight! As the young man turned his head, he would notice the two figures stalking him had caught up and were blocking the alleyway, a pair of young women in robes. They were also armed but with shortswords. “Well, this was too easy.” The man, clearly the leader, grinned as he took a step closer. Daniel took the Catalyst and pulled back, he glanced at it and then back at the man whom was raising the blade. “Time to kill the messenger.” He smirked and brought the weapon down as Daniel’s eyes slammed shut and he finished his incantation, the robes began to glow as he drew a crude summoning circle in the dirt, not expecting it to work.

“P-Please, help me!” Daniel begged quietly.

"Well I mean...hmmm...I suppose that is correct-." This was hard for him because he can't say Okita is wrong to be loyal but at the same time some of her tendancies concerned him greatly.

"Just...just gotta hope the master doesn't give that command and you're all good."

“It would be pretty counter-productive, wouldn’t it?” she agrees. Hence why she didn’t see it happening.

6. Bookshop AU. 72. Stranded due inclement weather. UKUS

Er….. I got carried away XD Thank you, anon! This one was the hardest to come up with but I really like it! >.> I don’t usually set things in Colorado, but it made sense for me this time. Inclement weather, after all!

Twenty-four year old Arthur Kirkland had had a devil of a time trying to find a place to buy the things he needs for his spells and potions and the like when he’d moved to Colorado four years ago, until he’d met the Joneses.

Scarlet and Vanessa Jones own a “metaphysical bookshop” tucked in between a crossfit gym and a thrift store on a busy street where no one pays much mind to them. To anyone who happens to walk in, it’s a niche local bookstore with a neo-pagan bent, carrying a wide array of crystals and tarot decks, wands and mass produced spellbooks. Ask the right questions, however, and the Jones witches will reveal their true nature. If they like you and you prove that you have no ill-intentions toward your fellow humans (magical or otherwise), then you are permitted to see items for sale which are somewhat less… mass-produced, to put it mildly.

The Rocky Mountain region had been picked for Arthur by Fate or the fates or the fae, he’s not entirely certain. The lack of oxygen is good for his potions and bad for his head and no matter how much water he drinks at the insistence of locals, it’s never enough. He lives in a small cottage up in the mountains in a suitably liminal location where he is far more likely to run into ancient mountain spirits or aspen tree dryads than bears or mountain lions, let alone humans.

He had earned the Jones witches’ eternal gratitude shortly after arriving in the US when he’d (almost inadvertently) saved their son, Alfred, from a group of ignorant bullies who knew just enough about magic to know they didn’t like it. Alfred was sixteen at the time. 

Since finding the place in the mountains where he lives, Arthur makes regular trips to the bookshop, where is well-known and welcomed by all three of the Joneses.

Of course, Alfred is twenty years old now and an incredibly talented tech wizard (in the literal sense) with a long, long line of powerful magic in his veins, almost to rival Arthur’s, but with a chip on his shoulder the size of the girl his extended family wishes he’d been born as. The bookshop has been passed down in some form or another through the Jones family for a few hundred years, but always to the eldest daughter. The current youngest generation consists of only two boys–the first ever born to any Jones witches: Alfred and his cousin, Matthew, whose mother is Scarlet’s younger sister. Scarlet and Vanessa love their son, but his grandmother and great aunts have always been disappointed in him.

Alfred and Arthur have become very close over the past four years, given that both understand what it’s like to be the outcast of the family: Alfred for not being a girl and Arthur for not being interested in girls. Arthur sorely wishes that Alfred’s family would see how strong and capable he is, if only so that someone will help him learn to control his influence over storms. Alfred wishes that Arthur would see how much he’s always been in love with the misplaced British mage and how much he wants Arthur to take him away from a boring life in a bookshop no one wants him to have.

The weather in Colorado is unpredictable, sure, but lately it seems that each time Arthur comes down from the mountains to restock, the city is struck with a bout of strange weather which always prevents him from returning immediately. Unexpected blizzards, thunderstorms, and even a tornado have all kept Arthur in the city over night for at least one night for the past several months. He’s a familiar guest of the pull-out couch in Scarlet and Vanessa’s living room in the apartment above the shop, but he really never sleeps there.

Instead, he and Alfred usually stay up almost all night, with Alfred coaxing Arthur into telling story after story from his family’s history or others that he knows of. Arthur is happy to oblige because it’s so wonderful to see Alfred’s smile reach his striking blue eyes for once and to see glimpses of the vibrant, gregarious person Alfred really is peeking out from behind loneliness and perpetual familial rejection.

By the time Arthur finally puts the pieces together and figures out what Alfred has been doing and that he’s in love with Arthur, it might be too late because Arthur is in love with him as well.

so i know i got that one info post with basic descriptions, but i figured that here, i’d go a bit more into detail about the various groups and what they’re doing in the fantasy au

Sakako + Dorothea + Kokichi & D.I.C.E. (+ Verny also technically)

Sakako’s been a member of D.I.C.E. (or “The Trickster’s Outcasts”, as they’re known to the general public) ever since it was formed, and as in the normal verse, is Kokichi’s second in command.

During one raid, where they were to steal a dangerous magical item from the royal family of Elizaveta (they had no idea the item was dangerous, but the group had gotten word of someone in the castle who DID know, and who intended to use it for malicious purposes), Sakako had disguised herself and gone in to keep an eye on stuff. This was how she met Dorothea, the third child of the royal family, and though she quickly found out Sakako’s true intentions, after hearing her explanation, she agreed to stay quiet.

The two bonded for a while, and eventually, Dorothea opened up about her desire to leave. She’d been in the castle all her life, basically, and even when she went to other kingdoms, she barely got any time to explore and observe them. But her parents, and even her own retainer, were adamant about her staying safely in the castle.

On the day that the group acted out their theft, Sakako made one last stop in Dorothea’s room...to offer up a spot on the team, willing to take her wherever she wished to go. The princess took up this offer immediately, and left with Sakako and the rest of D.I.C.E..

Of course, this didn’t go without notice. The whole family was distraught, as was Verny, Dorothea’s retainer and childhood friend. Convinced that the thieves had kidnapped her and planned to do horrible things to her, he too left the castle, to search out Dorothea and return her home.

Saiba + Yurasu + Sonisoru

The southern kingdom of Inraidou is fairly small, but still well known. They have high-quality fruit crops, and a strong military force, led by High Marshal Sonisoru Aritayaki.

Of course, that isn’t his true last name. Not anymore, anyway. Sonisoru is, in truth, the first born son of Grand Duchess Nori Inritsu, and her ex-husband, Majuro Aritayaki, who abandoned the kingdom for unknown reasons. Soon after, Nori remarried to a young noble man named Shigure Inritsu, and with him gave birth to her second son, Saiba, who is set to inherit the throne after Sonisoru denied the position, both due to his duty in the military, and his growing relationship with a young dancer woman named Yurasu, who was a popular performer at the capital’s theatre. He kept his old last name, too, as a reminder to never be like the other one who held it...and for something else...

Eventually, though, it was discovered that Majuro has been plotting against the royal family, and left in order to continue work on his plans in secret. With hesitance but understanding, Nori brought together her beloved sons and the one she considered a daughter. Under her command, they left Inraidou, and began traveling under the guise of being a traveling performance and mercenary troupe, in order to find Majuro and stop whatever his plans may be. Due to the secretiveness of their mission, the three almost never give out their surnames, just to be safe.

Hari + Kegawa + Hasu

Hari was born in a town of style and bright colors. She was lucky enough to be chosen at a young age to be the apprentice to a cloth mage, who taught her how to weave spells into cloth, and eventually, into outfits. After years of perfecting her craft, Hari left her town in order to bring her items to people all over the world.

Kegawa, a young natural-born werewolf who used a special artifact to control his transformations, lived with his pack in a cave in a dark forest...one that Hari happened to pass through on her way to a certain city. The night they met was cold and stormy, and in exchange for staying the night in their cave, she made special cloaks for them. See, this pack deeply sought to observe the outside world, but were ostracized for their inhuman features. These cloaks, however, had spells that allowed them to hide those features for as long as they wore them. Beginning to bond with this kind woman, Kegawa chose to accompany her, rather than go with his pack on their journey.

In another forest, one that was much brighter and sat next to a certain sea village, lived Hasu, a young elf who spent her days studying nature magic. When her home was threatened by a wild creature whose rampage caused a fire, Hari and Kegawa stepped in to aid in saving it. Hasu began traveling with them afterwards, wishing to repay them, to also see plants and flowers from all over the world...and to seek out and reunite with a certain friend.

Kurin VS Kadora

Kurin is the Knight Commander of the northern kingdom of Blomenberg, which sits right next to Elizaveta. While her stoic and stern nature may make her seem a bit scary, her loyalty to her country shines brighter than anyone else. She’s considered to be one of the strongest commanders in the country’s history, in fact.

Which is good, seeing as they’re dealing with a little problem right now regarding a certain thief. Kadora is known as the Rabbit-Eared Phantom (though she prefers being called a bunny), and steals valuables from all over the place, using her own skills and the many stuffed bunnies she’s used magic to animate and control.

This manmade group of thieves and the army of Blomenberg have been at odds for a while now, and the animosity between Kadora and Kurin in particular is at an all-time high. When one spots the two somewhere in the same place, a fight is certain to follow.

Ureshi + Kobashi

These two grew up together in a small town, Ureshi’s family running a bakery and Kobashi’s running a dual sweets-and-potions shop. The boys have been close friends since childhood, so it wasn’t much of a surprise when they eventually told their families that they were in a relationship.

What did surprise them was the two asking permission to go on a journey together. Ureshi wanted to help those around the world who had no food readily available, and Kobashi wanted to both aid him and also perfect his chocolate and potion making skills. With their families’ blessings, the two packed their bags, then set forth out into the world.

They go anywhere and everywhere they can, aiding people in need along the way. Ureshi sells his baking to help get them funds, but is also willing to give free food to people who truly need it. Kobashi practices his own skills as much as possible, and both sells his wares, and keeps some around for other uses.

Seiun + Nijiko + Dekai

Seiun was born in a very unique town. The people who lived there worship the sun, moon, and stars as deities, and it was said that those born with golden eyes or white hair were said to be able to speak with the sun and moon respectively, and receive prophecies of the future. So, imagine a certain couple’s surprise when their own child ends up with both, able to speak with both celestial bodies, as well as the stars. Seiun’s fate was set the moment he came into the world: he would become a Great Celestial Seer, a person meant to communicate with the celestial bodies, and deliver their prophecies unto the world.

Dekai was born in a village by the sea, of a tribe that has close bonds with sea spirits, and practically all the beings within the vast ocean. He trained to be an Ocean Guardian his whole life, and just days after he officially received his title, he was called upon by the town that worshiped the stars. Their Great Celestial Seer was to travel the world soon, and needed a guard. Nobody in that town was both versed in combat and readily available to leave the place for long periods of time, so they asked the village for one of their guardians, and Dekai was the one chosen. He agreed to this task, wanting to perfect his skills.

Nijiko, meanwhile, was once a simple artist in a city of creators. Well, not ‘simple’, truly. She was of a family with the unique power to bring their creations to life, as long as they willed them to do so, and could complete said creation fully. When Seiun and Dekai passed through this city, a sudden proclamation from the stars helped prevent a travesty that could have resulted in her family losing that special power. Wanting to repay them for this, she chose to become a second guardian to Seiun...not really giving him a chance to decline (though he didn’t mind, really).

Daniel had hid behind a nearby desk. Once the woman called out to him, he would come out into the open and stare at the body of the villians.

"W-Who are you...what's going on?!"

He would begin to realize that these people might have been assassins sent to kill them. So the young man was nervous, taking a step back from her.

The poor Magus was confused as enemies had suddenly attacked them! Good thing there was someone here who actually knew how to fight.

Thankfully he turned away before that suitcase opened so he could not see the carnage, but he could hear it. So the young man did the only thing he could, he ran for his life!

The sound of a snarling creature rips through the air along with the wet sound of flesh being torn from bone then dead silence.  The woman remained in the area with a puddle of blood at her feet and a pile of viscera  at her left.

“It’s safe to come out.” she calls out her teeth bared in a grimace still.  The thing in the suitcase seemed a better fate than whatever was in her body being unleashed upon them

Recent anon's Rankstuck world-building headcanon shenanigans

Title of this is pretty self explanatory; I’m the anon who started to adore this AU more than I probably should and just came up with a bunch of headcanons for it because I love worldbuilding…… and saw the panels from the Rankstuck origin with the random troll and human designs and figured to drag my fankid and fantroll trash into the mix.  This large headcanon of mine is of an entire separate society and culture that resides within the Infinite Forest of the Horrorterrors.  But why would anyone want to live their considering how never-ending and dangerous they are to all who enter?  Because a powerful Aspecter took what the Condesce's “You are welcome to live in the Horrorterror forest if you disagree,"  seriously.  The person who is to be accredited with these people was a man by the name of Liam Haze. A Mage of Void who was one of the Aspecters discovered by the Handmaid, Condesce, and Hass Harley; and newfound abilities allowed him to detect the hidden powers of wayward Aspecters, and guide the original trio to them prior to the creation of the Rankstuck world. Upon arriving with the rest of the Rankstuck world "colonists”, he felt betrayed by his former teachers and decided to take his newfound friends’ fate into his own hands and free them of a life of just being “breeding fodder” and have truly meaningful lives. And many years later more found their way to him by running into the forest to avoid punishment for telling the banned stories of their old universe homes. As the years went on these new nomads of both Aspecters and aspectless people began to form their own traveling society within the vast expanses of the forest. The first many years were INCREDIBLY hazardous and trying to Liam and his followers; but he used his powers of learning, the unknown, and mystery to grasp what the founding three and the other loyal citizens of the kingdoms would find impossible to comprehend.  They created gates; pathways only identifiable by Liam and those he taught could navigate and detect. The Aspecters who were skilled in Heart, Hope, Life, Light, and Mind worked tirelessly with classes known for creation to create ghostly guides called sprites that could assist when one was separated from their migrant bands or advice from a third party. To tap into the potential of the dream bubbles that the horrorterrors would glub into shelters or communicate with others over a long distance.  Liam and his followers had become what would be known to this world as the Skaia people.  Despite Liam Haze's long Aspecter lifespan though; after many, many generations he eventually died. On his deathbed though, he was happy it turned out this way. As it ensured that the people he taught to survive in this harsh forest would not only stay out of the clutches of who he deemed to be ‘traitors’… but also pass down their knowledge and wisdom to the future generations of Skaians, and allow the new generations to explore their powers without preconceptions and bias as to how strong/weak they are. Since their numbers grew quite large for many a generation; they were no longer able to travel as one incredibly large band and sustain and share all the resources they had at the same time. This contributed to the creation of Sessions. Much smaller groups that could range from 2 to 48 people that were all trolls or humans; so they could share their findings with each other and not have most of the group go hungry; as well as to continue to reproduce humanity and troll lineages. However all still to this day will travel to the final resting place of Liam known to all Skians as the Medium to celebrate the Ultimate Reward Festival. A big event that’s kind of like the Fourth of July, a county fair, and religious holiday all rolled into one that celebrates what they deem to be their ultimate reward: Freedom from the Handmaid, Condesce, and Hass Harley. Other parts of the Skaian culture developed without Liam as well. When young Skaians reach the age of 13 years or 6 sweeps of age; they go on Quests.Travels that are mandatory for young Aspecters to reach the full potential of their powers and for those who are aspectless to prove they can help their Sessions and survive on their own. During this time the Aspecters become Servers; protecting and directing the powerless on their Quest that could mortally harm them. While the aspectless become Clients, who must be like the aspectless tools against the aspect-immune Horrorterrors and gather important resources for their Sessions.  Neither Aspector or aspectless can be considered adults and official members of their Session until they complete their respective group’s Quest. These tests are also very important for those who have already past though; as it allows them to map out more of their incomprehensibly infinite world; find the locations and nests of Underlings or Horrorterrors or even Dream Bubbles, and create new paths for Sessions to stick to on their never-ending journeys.  But for the many generations before the Kingdom rebellions began, Hass Harley and the Condesce had no idea the Skaia people even existed. As they lived incredibly deep into the Horrorterror Forest and rarely went to the edge of it by choice. However they would sometimes mock their old student and friend, by claiming Liam’s abandonment of them to be outright disrespectful and that he was like an oil slick that caused many people to slip into death prematurely. They even coined their old friend’s modern day nickname: Bilious Slick: “The Speaker of the Vast Croak.” But during the revolution; they noticed that some of the rebels were getting supplies from unknown sources. After many, MANY generations had gone by the Empire and Dominion discovered their existence.  The Skaians originally had only slight contempt for those who lived in the two kingdoms. They were scared of the new world as much as they were, and felt they needed good leaders. They were lead astray from actual freedom and were what they would deem to be very confused. But when a Session discovered wounded rebels that ran deep into the woods to hide from those who wished to stop them; they decided to come to their aid, in hopes that those in the Kingdoms could attain the freedom they now achieved.  But after the rebellion died down due to Redglare’s “influence”, the two immortal rulers thought that these newly discovered “uncivilized people” needed to be dealt with. One of the many things that weakened Redglare was her control of Aspecters to “slay” the horrorterrors that could harm their lands. But seeing as they were being control and had no say in their actions, these people failed to realize that they were killing Skaians as well. This became known as to the Skaians as The Reckoning and since then it has caused more contempt and hatred to the “insiders” of the two kingdoms than Liam ever had. To this day this part of the deep forest is a sacred memorial burial ground for Skaians known as the Battlefield. And it is not uncommon to see a Session traveling through this area to pay respects to those who lost their lives on that day. With the ranking system now in play during the current time of this AU; Skaians are now regarded as dangerous illusions conjured by the Horrorterrors and their Underlings. Rare, powerful, and realistic Human and Troll like mirages conjured by the beats to let fighters guards down. Bilious Slickis finally known to the citizens of both Human and Troll kingdoms in their taught history; but his actual origin of being a human Void Aspecter had been revised. Both Hass and the Condesce made Liam out to be the first traitorous and insidious outcast. Who lured hundreds of innocent weak doom, heart, void Aspecters and lower ranked classes to their deaths; by promising their already “weak” abilities could reach the level of power that Life or Hope Aspecters had. This propaganda about Bilious being an outright villain has made the word “slick” the worst insult one could call another Aspecter. And sometimes the more foul-mouthed citizens of the Empire and Domain use this as a swear word to insult and demean banished outcasts.  On the topic of who the Skians would be in this AU; I think that troll and human version of the Carapaces would be appropriate aspectless Skians. But I also personally imagine some of my aforementioned fankids and trolls would be as well. But for another quick note on Skian Aspecter culture: Skians ideas on how aspects and classes work is highly reminiscent of what we are familiar with in Homestuck canon. All aspects and classes are equally powerful, but how they manifest themselves powerwise is up to the development, training and ingenuity of the Aspecter wielding them. Skians also have the belief that aspects have inversions and what not, like how with Light and Void are opposites, etc. They don’t have bias caused by the ranking system as they were never exposed to it. In regards to the potential plot of the Rankstuck AU, I really like the idea that one day Dirk or Roxy wander off during their first month of being in the Magenta Shadows team and encounter a Session of Skians for the first time; with the Session containing human or troll versions of the Aimless Renegade, The Mayor, PM, and maaaybe the White Queen?? I have no idea what their human or troll names would be though; as well if they themselves would all be Aspecters or aspectless. Or maybe they’d be a mix of both??  Also imagine the Midnight Crew as a Skian Session that are known criminals. And they hate the Kingdoms so much that they plan heists against them and give the supplies to other Sessions like Ronin Hood and his Merry Men. Only they’re more stabby and violent. Also if you’re curious as to why I chose Bilious Slick, the name of the genesis frog to be a human Aspecter who started all the shenanigans; it’s because I wanted to make a reference to Homestuck canon and how the “evil royalty” hates the Genesis Frog. I also chose him as to create some transformation symbolism; the Aspecters figuratively changed from tadpoles in schools following the Handmaid and pals only to become frogs that were free from the constraints of the pond. There’s also some frog cannibalism symbolism in there if you squint hard enough too. Frogs in nature will kill their own; which is shown here by the Humane Domain and the Alternian Empire killing off Aspecters from a different society. As for the reason for making Slick’s original name to be Liam Haze though. Liam is a diminutive of William. Bill is a nickname for William; and you can hear “Bill” as the first syllable in “Bilious”. Bilious can also mean irritable or distasteful. Which ties back to his disgust and anger in regards to his fellow Aspecters being brought to the Rankstuck world as breeding fodder. But also reflects the modern day Rankstuck kingdom’s hatred of him, too. The Vast Croak is also a pun. Because croak can also be slang for being dead or dying?? Get it?? Ha ha?? my puns are hilarious what are you talking about Haze can refer to an actual haze or fog, which obscures things like his Void aspect. But it can also be a nickname for Hazel. Hazel refers to the hazel tree; and Liam lead his people into a forest. But in Celtic mythology; hazel trees are known to have very magical properties. And hazel tree wood was often made to make helpful magical objects like walking sticks or staffs to help others.  This post is a very and incredibly long infodump for just one little headcanon; but I hope you like what I came up with and read everything I thank you from the bottom of my nerdy Homestuck-loving trash heart. I really enjoyed messing around and building upon your AU’s fantastic history and lore!! I hope that you can do more things with it soon!!   : D And who knows maybe I’ll pop in again with more ideas or exposition on my HS fanchars in this AU, ha ha.

Seraph, otherwise known as Hadrian, is accepted into Tsukiyomi University in his thirteenth year, having finished his primary education as a Sorcerer. Hadrian, although a genius is something of an outcast because of his unknown heritage and lack of fortune, but Hadrian isn’t about to let others bully him. Magical talent can’t be bought or sold, and Hadrian has this talent in spades. Steam Punk.

I have been thinking about Daniel's FGO verse, and I'm thinking that his role is basically like the Master of Chaldea's secretary/aid and accompanies them on some adventures too.
